Recently went there with a party of 17 and had exceptional service and food in one of the private rooms. They continue to wow us no matter how many times we come here. If you're mindful of money, then try them on sunday night for their $33 prefix menu that features a salad, small entrée (ex. 8oz fillet) and a desert. It's a ridiculous value to say the least. I chose 801 for my recent birthday dinner and I must say it was a great treat. The dining area has a classic steakhouse appearance that I love in older establishments. It's nice when things don't always change with time, and not all restaurants need to modernize to stay classy and popular. Although yelp boasts a $$$$ for 801, feel free to wear a t-shirt or a hoodie here. While food is expensive here, I did not fetch a snooty vibe in the least. Count on Omaha NE to have a steakhouse that has you pay $100 a person but you can wear a t-shirt. For our visit, my dear friend Matt M. called in ahead of time and told them it was my birthday, so upon arrival I was surprised with a personalized menu and birthday card. Wow, we decided to come here for steak. One of the best decisions. I got the Prime Rib, medium well, and it was soft and tender. Hardly any chewing needed. Lol. Just melts in the mouth. In a city packed with steakhouses, 801 shines very bright owing to its mouthwatering entries and superb service - which equates to a memorable fine dining experience! We have been here so many times and have never been disappointed in anything we have consumed! Some highlights of our meal include the crispy Caesar salad, topped with anchovies, the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, the perfectly grilled New York Strip, and the super moist Chocolate Cake! FYI, they have the nicest & cleanest restrooms - it's the Michael Jordan (GOAT) of bathrooms! I had the lobster and shrimp pasta. It was very good. I loved the home made noodles and white wine and butter sauce. The lobster was cooked well and just enough. Three huge shrimp really fill you up The service was slow. It took us 15 minutes for them to take our order but it was a Friday night. We asked the waiter to split the bill right away with the other couple but when the bill came, it was combined into one. I'm not one to generally get too excited about steakhouses in general... Which is why in the past when out-of-town visitors ask me the inevitable "where do I get a steak in Omaha?" I used to respond with ambiguity. Not any more. After an evening at 801 that included a sampling of many menu items - and a couple drinks - I started drafting this review as I simultaneously tried to motivate myself to get up and moving on a Tuesday morning. No joke, I couldn't even remember what day it was for sure. Talk about food drunk. So let's just say I wish instead that meal would've been on a Saturday so I could lay in bed and digest for a few more hours in relaxation while I reflect back on one of the best steaks ever. Would I list 801 among my favorite restaurants in Omaha though? Probably not... While the food is high calibre steakhouse dining, it's simply not my favorite fare. It's an amazing steakhouse, though, and so far the best I've found in town. There was that bit of nagging in the back of my mind though about the prices - yeah I guess I have to go there - because at some point being charged $7.25 for a local tap beer, $10 for a pad of foie gras, and $12 for a bowl of soup is akin to being charged $20/day for wifi when you stay at a nice hotel... That "just because we can" vibe of pricing exclusivity. But since all of their menu prices are available for review online - you should know what you're getting into. And if you're ordering drinks, dessert, meals, soup and sides (the menu is a la carte) be prepared for what you'll see on the check afterwards. Just take a deep breath and pay because I'd say it was worth it. All that messy business aside, the only bit of slight disappointment I had when it came to the food was the lobster corn chowder, in which I got a surprise bite of flour that apparently couldn't be coaxed into joining the party. Reminiscent of a dumpling, I just ate it anyway before sopping the bowl with bread. Sides were better, with the obvious table favorites being the various potatoes, hashed, mashed, scalloped and gnocchi-ed, which mostly featured cheese. Veggies were also worth talking about, with some if the largest asparagus spears ever, cooked to perfection and charred on the outside for a great savory vegetable that stands out well enough of its own and doesn't need to be slathered in butter - though that option was available as well. Dessert and bread were also good. Apparently they fly in their sourdough from the coast, which I originally laughed at... Until I tried it. Creme brûlée was tasty but not magical enough to hoard all to myself. And there was another thing... A 5lb lobster shared at the table that looked like something out of greek mythology... With the body of the shell stuffed with crab cake mixture and the whole thing broiled to perfection it was a once in a lifetime experience. The obvious star of the meal for me was the 8oz fillet (save the best for last). While I appreciated the raw meat presentation before dinner I thankfully realized I shouldn't go too crazy and that this portion would be just right. I ordered it up with maytag blue cheese fromage and prepared to part with almost $50 in glee. Steak! (that's the meat equivalent of "Cheers!" that I just made up). Next time I visit the chophouse it won't be in an ambitious endeavor to eat my way through the whole menu (it all likelihood it will be for their Sunday prix fixe), but return we shall because the answer to "where should I go to get a steak in Omaha" is the 801. read more

I went to 801 Chophouse a couple times in the past couple years and I have different opinions on each visit. The first time I went to 801, I sat at the bar and had one of the best burgers that I've ever had. It was a hamburger with fried pork belly in the middle, it was amazing; even though it was $20 and the drinks weren't cheap at all either. The second time I went, I had a pork chop in the restaurant. The chop was just okay. It suffered from a lack of seasoning and it was just bland. The sides are meant to be shared with some one else and they were pretty pricey for what you get. The meat prices were also outrageous IMO. My pork chop was just a shade under $50, and it definitely wasn't worth it. The service was as good as you would expect from fine dining. They do have a good scotch selection though. But all in all, I believe 801 is way over priced for the quantity and the quality of food you get and I doubt that I'll be going back ever again. read more

We came here for happy hour on a Monday, ordered several items off the happy hour menu: Crab cake - very nice flavour and texture but price is per crab cake Mac & Cheese - hot, gooey and really good! I'd get this again Wagyu Beef Sliders - disappointing - too much bread and the flavour of the patty was alright Shrimp cocktail - was just okay - came with two large shrimp Steak bites - tender and super flavourful - would get these again Mussels - were underwhelming and did not enjoy the matchstick fries overtop as they just got in the way and didn't add anything to the dish other than being annoying. For drinks, I ordered the cucumber & coconut cocktail - it was refreshing and definitely order this again. So we didn't get to try any of their noteworthy steaks but if I'm ever in town again I'd go back to try an entree. read more

Nice sit down steak place that has a somewhat more fancy vibe inside than some other steak places I've been to. You get the feeling you're stepping into a place that's been around for awhile. Started with 2 sides of mushrooms and their duck fat potatoes, both amazing choices can't go wrong! Dinner we had their lamb chop and one of their many steaks. The steak was superb, excellent job with the medium cook, super flavorful and tender. The lamb chop was also quite nice although a little too sweet for my liking.. they serve it sitting in this sweet sauce which is nice for a few bites but leaves one feeling a little too thirsty or wanting something more savory. We heard their flan was pretty fancy guess it takes like 45 mins to prepare, excited to check this out sometime and see what all the hype is about! read more

This is pretty much one of the best steakhouses I've been to. The servers are extremely attentive and knowledgeable, the selection of wines and drinks is extensive, the food is just perfect. Like others are saying, if I had the time and money, I'd consider flying out here just to go to this restaurant. Had the Colorado lamb chops which were almost perfect. My only issue was that they were medium rare rather than the medium I'd requested. Aside from that it was perfect. Definitely order it with the pistachio crust! I only had two (you can also get 3) but the chops are very large. Everyone at the table absolutely loved the entrees they got. Our table had the broccolini, mashed potatoes, and Brussel sprouts sides all of which were very tasty. We also had the chocolate souffle at the end, which wasn't the best one I've ever had but it was quite good! In short would definitely recommend this place and would highly recommend the lamb chops, though they're better known for their steaks so you may want to give those a try (or try a bite from someone else's plate at your table!) read more

I was excited to go to a steakhouse in Omaha but was disappointed that we selected this one because it is a regional chain that felt unremarkable except the astronomical prices. The best item I had was my cocktail which was whiskey with a honey cinnamon syrup. We had the Delmonico Oscar style and the glazed carrots. The steak was certainly delicious but with the lacking ambiance and general lack of excitement in any of the accompanying dishes it was unmemorable. The food here is five stars, the service..... not so much. The wait staff is very attentive but there are zero bus personnel. Most higher end steak houses have a bus staff that keeps water filled and plates cleared. It took 30 minutes to get a water refill and our plates from dinner sat for a long time. We visited 801 Chophouse for the first time tonight. My wife made us reservations a month ago and was so excited to take me for my birthday based off of all the good reviews. The ambiance and service were great, but the food was just terrible. We started in the bar area for happy hour based off of reviews and a menu we saw online, but when we got there, their happy hour menu was completely different and they said they had just changed it last week. Their previous happy hour had a lot of good items and small bites ranging between $2.50-$5 per plate, but the new menu had items averaging between $8-$10 per plate and the options were not good. Their filet mignon slider was just ok and a bit pricey for what you get. Their lemonade was excellent. Their wedge salad was the only other thing that was good. Their Caesar salad was way too overpowering and I do not recommend it. Our main course, ribeye steak, was burnt on the outside, and it tasted like when you forget to clean your grill, and all the burnt pieces get stuck to your steak. It tasted like we were just eating charcoal. The inside was also so dry, that not even a side of au jus could fix it. It had no other flavor whatsoever and was extremely bland. Any other place would have offered to take it off of our check, especially when they noticed that we barely ate any of it, but they didn't bother to do anything to make it right which was disappointing. They were generous to bring out a dessert for my birthday, which I appreciated. Overall, I wouldn't come back to this restaurant or recommend it because no matter how good the staff is, when the food is this expensive, I would expect better quality. The lighting was dim, it was quiet, romantic, the waiters are polite... I'm pretty sure it was seasonal, but the pumpkin crème brûlée was fantastic! There was toasted marshmallow on the board, a cookie topped with a marshmallow & chocolate, and the brûlée was inside a small pumpkin and the pumpkin was edible! Pure amazement! We went for the first time and overall it's a great experience. The food is good. I think the seafood is better than the steak when it come to pricing and quality but just my opinion. We ordered crab legs that had the most meat my husband has ever seen. The bone in rib-eye was good with truffle butter, very good, but $83 just for the steak may be a little overpriced. Hash-browns, green beans, all great. All my drinks were delicious except the Matilda one that tasted like watered down southern comfort. Without asking the waitress took it off the bill. I visited Omaha from the DC metropolitan area for the first time two weeks ago. I was visiting family who recommended 801 Chophouse for dinner so we dined there on Monday 9/18 before the Dave Chapelle show nearby. My first steakhouse dining experience in the Midwest was 5+ star! I can't rave enough about the quality of food, service, and amenities offered to their guests. I ordered the Oysters Rockefeller & Lamb Lollipops as my entree meal and shared the Sautéed Spinach, Mac & Cheese, and Baked Creamed Spinach as sides. I even sampled the Lobster Pasta dish. Everything was utterly delicious. Now to top off my dining experience, I headed to the Ladies Room afterwards and was surprised to see this small, yet practical amenity that all upscale restaurants should incorporate to their business model. My first ever experience of a restaurant promoting good hygiene after a meal with floss, mouthwash, and cups in their bathrooms. I was highly impressed with everything from the food/menu, ambience, down to this minimalist bathroom luxury!
