One of the first steakhouses I tried in Omaha. I am not a big steak fan but ended up going here with my colleagues who are steak enthusiasts and loved the place. They have an amazing wine list and they have some good selections. We got a bottle of Chateau Montelena Cabernet and then by the time our entree arrived, we went for a bottle of Girard Cabernet. For appetizers, we got crab cakes and fried calamari. The steak I ordered was perfect, I can't eat super huge portions and I loved my 8 ounce fillet that I could enjoy and finish. There were five of us and all of them loved their steak. I had a creme Brûlée for dessert and it was super rich in flavor but huge in portion which I could not finish. Our server was nice, patient and prompt, he did give good suggestions without influencing one's mind. What are they good for - They have some nice private table arrangements ( small space with curtains that makes it more private) for big groups, Good steak and wine collection What you should expect - Like any other steak house, this place is expensive( I would say $$$$) With drinks, appetizers, entree and dessert, per person you will spend between $100 to $150. I think this restaurant typifies what millennials versus gen Xers expect in a restaurant. If you want a 'classic' non-offensive big steak house, great service, and a menu that reads like it's 2001, this is your spot! Okay, before I get too annoying I'll start with the good. Service is excellent. Very professional and knowledgeable staff. Our server could answer any question, make recommendations, was personable, and was around just enough to make sure we were attended to. The ambience was definitely pleasant and feels upscale, perfect amount of lighting. The food was nothing to write home about. First the steak...was fine. They were proud to announce that all their steak is prime. Could've fooled me. Tasted and felt pretty choice to me. The best thing I ate was the shrimp cocktail. Giant, perfectly snappy shrimp. Everything else had flaws/was uninspired. Crab cake: too bready, creamed spinach: too sweet, potatoes au gratin: too gluey, risotto: too dry. I could go on. So now I'll be that annoying millennial (eye roll). Color me crazy but I'd rather pay less for an edited menu (less options) that featured local beef, grass-fed, preferably (another eye roll) with seasonally appropriate sides (haven't we moved past asparagus always being on the menu?). If I'm paying this much money, I want the food to be interesting, the menu concise, and the chef to use some acid! We visited 801 chophouse for fathers day , they were amazing and accommodated us in their private dinning room. The venues is fantastic, service is great and the food simply the best. The steaks are to die for, we tried the filet mignon and porterhouse, both were delicious. I've been here about 6 times and never leave disappointed. You get what you pay for and although this is a pricey diner out, the service and quality of food is too notch. This is our go-to in Omaha for special occasions. Anniversary or birthday? They'll print you your own custom menu with your occasion on it and wrap it in ribbon for you to take home as a keepsake. So the menu pricing had us believe we were in for a special evening, however that was not the case!! we order a $25 shrimp appetizer - received 4 shrimp. we ordered 12 oz Ribeye ($65) and 8 oz Filet ($60) then the $6 house recommendEd butter topping - steaks were cooked well (it's Nebraska, you better do that right) but they weren't anything special and butter sauce overpowered the meat. we were very disappointed! The sides are served house style (a little less painful). We didnt order anything special for two people and our bill was $235. Our meal and services was not worth that! We had an excellent meal here. The oysters Rockefeller was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had prime rib with fresh horseradish. I had a strip steak. The meats are prime and they were cooked to perfection. We shared a side of hash browns. They were terrific, crunchy on the outside and soft and moist inside. When I knew I was coming to Omaha, I began looking for a steakhouse. Because, if you come to Omaha, you have to have a steak, I'm pretty sure it's a Nebraska statute. Anyway, I came across a few that I bookmarked in my pre-trip Yelp research. When I arrived in Omaha, every local I came in contact with at the hotel said 801 Chophouse. So, I decided to take their advice and hit up 801. I walked in without a reservation around 7:00 on a Wednesday. The place was fairly empty, maybe 5-8 tables seated plus a few people at the bar. It's a large dining room with a few private rooms around the perimeter of the room. It's a classic steakhouse vibe, but they've added a bunch of paintings of bulls on the wall, plus the famous golden bull in the middle of the dining room. I was approached immediately by a server with a wine list. 801 has a nice list, with several options available by the glass, as well as a good representation of wines by the bottle. It's a list you would typically find at a higher end steakhouse. I selected a glass then moved onto the menu. They've got this presentation when they bring out the cuts and discuss the steaks with you. I saw the table next to me getting it, so I didn't need a repeat. I was disappointed to find out that 801 wet ages their steaks rather than dry aging. I have found dry aging to be far superior, but that doesn't mean you can't get a good wet aged steak. The server informed me that 801 can make all of their appetizers, salads, and side dishes in smaller portions for single people. This was great for me, as I was dining alone. I started with crabcakes, which were 2 small cakes with a corn salsa and caper tater sauce. They had a nice crunch to them, but they could have been left in the pan a little longer for my preference. Great crab to cake ratio, it's almost entirely good quality crab meat. The tartar sauce was good, but nothing special. I'd get these again, but they're not among the best crabcakes I've ever had. To eat, I went with the delmonico ribeye plus a side of lobster mac n cheese and brussels sprouts. I asked the server if he recommended the steak simply seasoned or cajun style, and he recommended it simply seasoned, which includes salt and pepper. I added bone marrow butter on the side, because it's bone marrow butter. The food took about 15 or so minutes, and when it arrived it was hot and fresh. The steak had an excellent crust to it. And, the server was right, simple was better. The bone marrow butter was good, rich and flavorful. However, the steak doesn't need it. It's a nice cut with plenty of marbling that melts into flavor as the steak cooks. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, it was a strong steak. I really enjoyed both of the sides, but the lobster mac n cheese was phenomenal. Probably the best and most memorable bites of my meal, including the ribeye. The lobster is distributed well throughout the dish, and it's not dry. Sometimes when it's added to a dish, the lobster can be overcooked. Not at 801. Also, the sauce was creamy, cheesy, and had a depth that you don't typically get. The server told me they add beef stock to the roux. That was probably the reason for the depth. Just a well constructed dish that stood out among a very good meal. And, in this day and age, when most steakhouses have lobster mac n cheese, this one was one of the better offerings I've had. The brussels sprouts are served with a red onion marmalade that could have been a side on its own. The sprouts were cooked well, tender but still had some bite. The marmalade was rich and added a ton of flavor. Another great execution. Were I to return to Omaha, I would definitely hit up the 801 again. I was not really impressed with this place. The food was just ok. For $20 we ordered the sea scallops, we got 3 scallops that were under seasoned and burnt. Somehow they weren't over cooked which was odd considering how burnt the outside was. Next I had the lobster chowder, this was absolutely amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys that kind of soup. For my meal I ordered the Sea Bass. It was well cooked but also under seasoned. The sides we had were the asparagus, Blue cheese potatoes and the creamed spinach. These were all done well. My dinner companions had New York strips. They said it was excellent which is really all that mattered (this was a business dinner). Our waiter was decent but also not impressive, just satisfactory for they level of restaurant this is. I will say that the bartender was great. There is a mixed drink on the menu with some sort of banana liquor that was excellent and I guess is his creation. Very cool that they allow that type of creativity on the menu. If the meal was 1/2 the cost I would probably give them 5 stars but for a bill totaling over $500 for 3 people after drinks I really do not plan on returning. Holy cow. I had bought a Groupon for 801 a while back cause I've been meaning to try this place for ages. It lives up to the hype. Even though I was excited to finally eat here, me being me, I ended up snacking shortly before our reservation and went there with an already completely content stomach. So I convinced my friend to split everything and it actually worked out really well with no left overs. We started off with pancetta - wrapped scallops. The scallops were huge and sooooo tender. Best scallops I've ever had, although I didn't really care for the pancetta and I could taste the grill marks on the scallops a little too much. The roasted red pepper glaze was to die for. My friend decided on the 801 cut bone-in prime rib cooked MR and on our server's recommendation we got it prepared with the 801 house spice rub. They were kind enough to slice it up for us since we told them we were sharing. Super juicy and melt in your mouth buttery. Texture was spot on, but I was expecting more flavor from the rub to come through. Slathering on horseradish definitely helped with that. We also got a regular sized side of lobster macaroni and cheese - server said that it would be perfect for sharing, otherwise we could get a half order. This was the flavor bomb I was looking for. Crazy rich, but oh so delicious.. Big pieces of perfectly cooked lobster (Mr. Krabs! Is that your claw in here?). I think I liked this better than the prime rib (always been more of a seafood person than steak - embarrassingly enough, when I crave steak, it's the $10 plate lunch style). After all that, we turned down the dessert menu even though I had really wanted to try to souffle. Surprise!, we didn't reach the $100 value of my Groupon, so our server threw in a chocolate cake to go that tipped us $1 over before tax. (It's like he read my mind, my mind was saying "NO MORE" but my tummy was screaming "CHOCOLATE"). And of course I ended up having a bite of that cake when I got home..or several. Thoughts of the soufflé flew out of my mind. When I took it out of the bag, I was shocked by how heavy it was. Opened it to see a HUGE slab. Would satisfy the most intense chocolate craving..so decadent even without the chocolate sauce and whipped cream that came with it. Service was perfect. I never knew cow could taste like that...or cost that much @.@ (everything on the menu is a la carte so it adds up) However, I'd say that this meal made me feel as good as a week's worth of tuition would so it all balances out?? We had the delmonico, filet medallions, mussels (appetizer), scalloped potatoes, and asparagus. We also tried one of the desserts; I forgot which one it was but it had ice cream and pecan pie maybe? Being a classy place, we also saw Drake eating there!!! He told us that 801's steak was the "best he ever had"!! Just kidding...but there was someone there who really looked like him though hehe. Since I was only going to be in the mid west for a few days, I had a duty to find me a good steak place. And since Omaha a had a fair share of steak houses, I just chose this one basically for convenience. This place was nice and intimate, but semi casual at the same time. They had tv's too so you can watch some games. It wasn't a busy night, and so I walked in without a reservation. Staff was pretty nice. I had a decent evening with my NY strip steak and asparagus. And I thoroughly enjoyed my Grand Marnier souffle too. The extra 15 minutes wait was worth this decadent delight. I would probably come back just for the souffle. read more

We've been here a couple of times now and overall we've enjoyed our dining experiences. Firstly the atmosphere is like whoa, am I dressed up enough for this place? Low lighting with intimate booths on the sides of the restaurant and some tables sprinkled in the middle. A very impressive golden moo statue in the middle of the room is always a show stealer. Other than that, the rich dark wood and elegant and tasteful decorations let you know you're in for a treat. The service, to echo other fellow yelpers, is truly impeccable. Our water glasses forever floweth over, our table cloths are kept sparkling, and they are more than happy to assist me in my quest to find delicious noms without the gluten. The caesar salads we've had were both fresh and properly dressed. Both times we visited our steaks were prepared to the perfect temperature and were quite delicious. I got the lobster mash as as side and enjoyed its rich flavor. We had their creme brulee on one of the occasions and it too was delightful. Service is excellent, your meal will undoubtedly be prepared perfectly and have great flavor. Overall its a very solid steakhouse, just be prepared for a pricey meal. read more

"Down Home" Sautéed Jumbo Shrimp ($17): the sauce itself was a tad salty, but with the shrimp, mashed potatoes or bread, it was delicious. The shrimp was tender and juicy and semi-melted in my mouth. You definitely can tell there was tons of butter and heavy cream, but man... So good! We ordered the Sunday 3-course prix fixe dinner $33 per person. Caesar Salad: too much dressing and the bread with the cheese wasn't really appetizing. Nothing that made this dish stand out for me to mention in this review. Chilled Iceberg Wedge: like the title of the dish, it was just an iceberg wedge. Nothing special or worth noting. Filet Mignon DeBurgo topped with Foie Gras with mashed potatoes and asparagus: mmMmmMmmmmm foie gras! I am so glad I made sure to top my friend's Filet Mignon with foie gras. This melted in my mouth and added awesome texture and flavor. The filet itself was extremely tender. Prime Rib Au Jus: my goodness! I did not expect a big slice of prime rib! So worth the $33 deal! The downside, the outskirts of the prime rib was extremely salty. I only focused on eating the center of the slice of meat. The meat wasn't as tender as I expected, but still overall a good slice of meat. Fresh Fruit Sorbet: very refreshing after eating so much food. It was sweet, but not too sweet. Creme Brûlée: very rich. My friend knew I loved to crack the layer of sugar and let me do the honors. The creme brûlée was creamy and sweet (but not too sweet). It was a good dish to end my night. Service was phenomenal! Our server Eric was great! New silverware with every dish. Picking up crumbs every time they took our plates away and checked-in to make sure we didn't need anything. I had dinner here last Saturday with a large group or 7, and we had a great experience! 801 Chophouse has amazing hospitality, good food, and excellent atmosphere. My only issue with the Chophouse is the value...I'm not sure if what we got was worth what we paid for it (spoiler alert...it was $$$$). This is a Chophouse in Omaha, so of course we had to get steaks...We had never been here before, so our waiter walked us through the entire menu. He even brought out the raw cuts of meat (sealed in saran wrap, so it was all very sanitary, no worries) so that he can educate us on what the difference is between a filet, NY strip, Ribeye, etc. I'm a foodie from Texas, so I'm well-versed in different cuts of steak, but this was very helpful for my friends and family that were there. He also walked us through the different toppings we can get on our steak, and then through the appetizers and sides. I ended up splitting the 12 oz. filet mignon prepared Oscar style (with crab and bearnaise sauce and asparagus on the side) with my cousin. It was EXTREMELY tender, and very well-prepared. The sauce was good, but it tasted a little too buttery for me. We couldn't even finish it because it was so rich (don't worry, we didn't let steak go to waste...my brother finished it for us!). My aunt, bless her, ordered the filet mignon well done, which is a no-no in a steakhouse like this one. I was a little embarrassed, and the waiter tried to talk her out of it, but that's what she wanted, so oh well. Anyway, she ended up really liking her steak, so I'm glad she liked it and the waiter didn't shame her too much for ordering it well done. haha All of the sides are served family style. I thought the sides were good, not great. I really enjoyed the mac and cheese, it was SUPER cheesy and delicious and creamy, but you couldn't eat too much of it because it was very rich. I though the lobster mashed potatoes didn't taste like lobster (which sucks cause we paid extra for the lobster). The brussel sprouts were ok, but they were not crispy enough for me...I like mine roasted until they're nice and crispy and delicious. The baked potato was bland...would not recommend. Located inside the Paxton, you could easily misconstrue 801 Chophouse for yet another hotel restaurant. But that would be a grave mistake on your part. This place is serious about their steaks, I've had some of the best cuts of meat I've ever tasted at this restaurant. Similar to what they do at Morton's, the server begins with a table side presentation of the available cuts for the evening. But the comparison stop there, every piece of beef I tasted there was superb. From the tender and juicy prime rib, to the perfectly seared and grilled rib eye and filet Mignon. Our appetizer of bone marrow was a more than generous portion and the sides were all great. I'll definitely be back for dinner the next time I'm in town. read more

I have literally agonized over this review. So many people had peppered me with 'oh man! You gotta go eat here! It's better than Smith and Wolenskies, regardless there location. We grabbed a big suite at the Red Lion and caught a ride down just to experience this much ballyhooed holy church of steak. Short story. Caesar Salad was warm and soft. The fish had taken it over and destroyed it Next Beef Bone Marrow. Hot, but full of bone chips, poor seasoning. Then the big bone in Ribeye Was it big? Yes. Was it hot? Yes! Was it the toughest, gristle ridden, bloody and unchewable!!!!! I usually complain, but wasn't in the mood for this kick in balls let down. I simply paid in cash, left my 20% tip and left to NEVER EVER EVER RETURN. OMAHA PRIME IS TEN TIME BETTER! For about the same or a little less money. Sorry guys. Dressing and the big fat bacon chunks on the wedge salad were great! I ordered the waygu ribeye and the first one was over cooked, so I sent it back and asked for a rare one this time. It came out fast and was cooked perfect. However, the steak was over salted and didn't taste any different from a prime ribeye, so I was very disappointed in that, since it cost twice as much for the waygu beef. Incredible food! My friend and I stayed the night in Omaha on a cross country road trip. Our hotel said this was the best steak in town. They did not lie! Unfortunately, the server brought us plates to distribute around the table and, of the 7 places, two were oily and three were really dirty, with big pieces of food still stuck to them. Another server took them away and brought another 7, and two of those had to go back as well. It's probably a fault in the dishwasher somewhere, but unless we were the only ones who had an issue, it doesn't bode well for the kitchen. I think I'll wait a while before going back... read more

To celebrate with friends after successfully defending out dissertations, we went for dinner at 801 Chophouse. What a fantastic night which was due in equal parts to the great food and our server Sarah. The steak tartare was melt-in-your mouth, the gnocchi were very tender and the macaroni and cheese was deemed by one diner to be "the best he ever had". Two of us each had the largest ribeye available and I had mine topped with the foie gras torchon which was an unctuous buttery slab of foie gras glistening on my perfectly cooked steak. For dessert, we had the ice cream, sorbets and two of us had the carrot cake - which again, was deemed delicious. A fantastic night with fantastic food and a fantastic server - ask for Sarah. One of the more expensive places we dined at in Omaha. Two couples out on a Friday evening for a nice dinner. Located in the Paxton Building on 14th and Farnam. We made reservations through Open Table. Hostess called the day before to confirm. Interior was somewhat dark with extensive wood paneling and leather. Several private dining rooms were available. Service was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Relatively quick and constantly checked on the table. Drinks were refilled quickly. Wine list is extensive and expensive. Started with a reasonably (somewhat) priced bottle of Loosen Brothers German Riesling - Vice nice and refreshing, slightly sweet and not overly crisp. A pleasant wine to enjoy. Warm bread and butter are brought to the table. Appetizers: Lobster Corn Chowder - Good flavor. Smokey with good sized lumps of lobster. Tasty. Lobster Bites - One of the daily specials. Deep fried. Served on top on the lobster tail shell with two sauces. A little chewy, but still good. Caprese Salad - One of the daily specials. Nice big slices of tomato with balls of mozzarella and balsamic and pesto (good and tasty) Caesar Salad - romaine lettuce, white anchovy house-baked crouton, Parmesan crisp. (Also good) Entrees: All the steaks are pricey...just remember that in advance. 16 Oz Ribeye - Tender enough to cut with a fork. Good ole Texas boy had this one and said one of the best he has had. 8 oz Filet Mignon - Both the ladies had this. One steak was slightly undercooked, but both said their steaks were delicious and the cognac butter on top was outstanding. Seared Filet Medallions - Maytag Blue Cheese croquette, lobster butter, mushroom jus, grilled asparagus - had a size of scallops added - mine was good, but not for the price. I did not see the Blue Cheese croquette when I ordered it, so quite a shock when I dug into it.......super strong blue cheese.....which I dislike. Vegetables are served family style. We had grilled asparagus, creamed corn (fresh and delicious) and scalloped potatoes with truffle cream, Gruyere, and Parmesan (also very good) Servings were more than sufficient to feed all four of us. Desserts: Grilled Farmer's Market Peach Sundae - Buttermilk Ice Cream, Salted Caramel Oat & Brown Sugar Streusel (Both ladies loved this dessert) New York Style Cheesecake - Citrus Zest, Graham Cracker Crust, Berry Compote Overall a nice meal, but we dropped over 400.00 dollars not counting tip......so not something we would do on a regular basis. My husband made reservations here for my birthday. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable, I wish I could remember her name! She was very friendly and warm throughout our service, making helpful suggestions and helping us decide between items when we couldn't make a decision. Her suggestions and feedback seemed very genuine and personal rather than just trained statements and suggestions they have been instructed to make. Our steaks were perfect, some of the best steak I have ever had. My husband could not stop eating the scalloped potatoes, they were probably our favorite side of the night. Dessert was phenomenal, especially with our servers suggestion that we could order all of the other dessert sauces/toppings to go with our cake when we couldn't decide between the chocolate cake or soufflé. Her suggestion was what really made this dessert a hit as we were able to use the soufflé sauces on the chocolate cake. Amazing amazing food! My family and I are from Texas and CA and we had a great dinner there last night in one of the private rooms. We started with the Oysters Rockafeller, which were warm and very flavorful. My cousin and I split the lobster bearnaise filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. We were equally pleased with the brussel sprouts, lobster mash potatoes, and the Mac & cheese. I never thought lobster mash potatoes would be a good combo, but it was great. The price was a little shocking ($315 total), but there were 7 of us and we knew it was a fine-dining restaurant based on the reviews. If I am ever in Omaha again, I will definitely come back. I was here for work and we couldn't not go. I got the prime rib with au jus on the side with cognac butter and mushroom ragout. There were grill lines. We also got sides and they were decadent. The scalloped potatoes were like lasagna. The bread came with good butter. Thank god for the steamed asparagus. I was too full and had to pass on dessert. After our Yelp dinner here last night I can definitely say this is my favorite restaurant in Omaha and if you are looking for a great steak this place is the best choice in town. Everyone in our party of 11 ordered steaks and all were satisfied. I personally got the 24oz bone in delmonico and it was the best steak I have ever had. I opted for their new Foie Gras Tourchon topping and it took the steak to a whole other level. My gf ordered the filet oscar and could not have been happier. With a party this large I got to try many sides that I have always wanted to - roasted mushrooms, gnocchi, mac n cheese, creamed corn, etc. All of them were fantastic. We also got a 5lb monster lobster to split amongst us - a great experience. You just cannot go wrong here from the food to the service - this place is top notch. read more

801 Chophouse at The Paxton serves awesome food in an awesome atmosphere. It is very expensive. I paid $225.00 for a meal for 2 people. Started off with a couple glasses of wine and a couple boulevard smokestack series IPAs. For an appetizer we had the Oysters Rockefeller, which was perfect. For our meal we had family style sides of garlic mashed potatoes, which were awesome, and the Lobster Mac n Cheese, which was just okay. (Lacking flavor) The 16oz ribeye with cognac and mushroom ragout was perfectly cooked and tasted great. The Italian sea bass with Brussels sprouts and candied walnuts was also fantastic. Such a great meal! We topped it off with the biggest piece of New York style cheesecake I've ever seen! You should probably eat here. Top-notch service! We loved the valet provided since it snowed the day before. Food, wine and our waitress was great.

Great steakhouse. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, and checked in on us often. Food was fantastic, and the wine list had a great selection. The menu was reasonably priced for this type of restaurant, and the ambiance was nice and quiet. I would definitely come back next time I am in Omaha. read more

The food was absolutely amazing! This may be my new favorite restaurant! I'm from Texas and have tried a lot of steak. The filet mignon here was by far the best I've had. It was tender, juicy and flavorful. Try it with the mushrooms and peppercorn sauce. The calamari with bell peppers and zucchini was also really good! I really loved the dipping sauces it came with. If I could just get a plate of the fried bell peppers the dish came with I would have! And finally the chocolate souffle!! I've never had a souffle before so I don't have anything to compare it to, but this was amazingly wonderful! It tasted even better with the strawberry jam and chocolate sauces it came with! I had to get some of the strawberry jam packed to go cuz it was so good! read more

I being driving from NY to California and my family decided to stop and eat a nice good meal but was very disappointed 801 Chophouse restaurant. I order the Lobster Bisque very "salty ". My family order 2 different cut of meat and the only one was ok was the prime Rib . I don't think I will come back .
