Suuuper disappointing. On Sunday 1:30pm I waited in line about 20 minutes before getting to the front. It's painful to see the TVs not being used as menus. The line would go so much faster if there was a visible menu for everyone to see. They were already sold out of a lot of items. There was a giant dim sum menu which turned out to be a fake because they don't actually sell dim sum. Not sure if that means forever....or just sold out. Fish Bun: Sweeter than I expected. The fish wasn't great and the drop of kewpie didn't make it better. Cocktail Bun: My bun was ripped apart and nearly hollow. For this price I expect the same size and standard as the chain bakeries like Sheng Kee or 85 Degrees. Super disappointing.

Chinese born American here to say... I can see why this place is so hyped. Chinese pastries have been a staple in my life. Soft, chewy, semi-sweet.. consistent. And then you add in what everyone loves, fried... fish/chicken. That is exactly why. Thinking about it, there aren't a lot of pastries out similar to Chinese pastries so it makes sense on why this bakery has gotten so popular. However, I would recommend for everyone to try more Chinese bakeries though, as you could find much better quality bread. I found this bakery a bit more dry. The fried fish was super small so the bread to fish ratio was terrible. You may have better luck with the chicken. There were 3-4 staff servicing during my visit and if this is the usual, then the long lines flows decently. Seating is available but I'd say this is more of a grab and go space. There is lots of free parking available which is a plus. I personally wouldn't return again since I've had a lot better but am glad to see that they are successful.

    Egg tart - decent!

Been seeing this trending and got a chance to try it without a crowd! The fish sandwich and egg tart were good quality! Definitely eat the fish sandwich fresh to really get the flakiness of the fish. They have a pretty sizable menu. I always get so confused with my own vocab of the buns vs English xD Medium-ish parking lot shared in the shopping plaza but lot of street parking if you can't find a spot either! Kind of a hole in the wall but they are doing great and I'm happy for their success! Froze. Dim sum and pre ordering cakes are also offered here!

Saw the fish sandwiches all over my feed, so I had to try them for myself. I saw that they had a long line 6 months ago, so I wasn't sure if it was also going to be long now. We arrived at 9:30 on a Saturday and waited about 20 minutes so I wasn't too bad. Other than the fish sandwiches I also ordered two egg tarts, one pineapple bun and a pork bun. The total came out to less than $20. The fish was crispy, and the bun was soft. $3 is an unbeatable price, especially in this economy. The egg tarts (the tart wasn't crispy) and pork bun (minimal meat filling) were just average so I probably won't get them again. I would like to try their dim sum and hotdog bun next time I stop by and of course, their fish sandwiches again. Please don't raise the price!

Finally checked this place out on a Sunday just before 12pm and the line was minimal (only took about 5-10 min) the line grew to double the size after 12pm. The fried chicken and fish sandwiches for only $3.75 was super worth it ! I enjoyed the large pieces of meat , and fried fresh, also the buns were super soft and tasted better than what you would get from a fast food restaurant. The taro bun was just okay. The egg tarts were nice and flakey. They unfortunately didn't have dimsum when I went . Might be a morning thing. Would definitely come again sometime for their fried sandwiches. Definitely worth it

My mom has been coming here for over a decade and love(d) their purple yam bun; however, it seems that the hype may have inflated their egos and led to a decline in quality. The purple yam buns we ordered the other day had minimal to *no* purple yam in it. In fact, they had taken flour and colored it purple to pass off as purple yam when it's actually now filled with a dense bread/cake-like substance (see photo). Super disappointing that they would cheapen out like this. They should either increase the price to account for the increase in cost of ingredients or not falsely advertise that they are selling a bun with purple yam filling and maybe, just not sell it all. It's super deceiving that they are now deliberately coloring the dense bread/cake filling to be purple when it was previously purple yam paste. It's obvious that it does not taste the same. Please reconsider your business practices.

I had come here many years ago when I lived close by but kind of forgot about it until it went viral earlier this year for the fish sandwiches. It's tucked away in a little strip mall off the beaten path but social media has made this place a mecca. I tried to come in January, before 8am on a Sunday morning before I had to catch a flight out and the line was nuts- out the door and down a couple shops so I just left that day. No way I was doing the 2 hour waits I had heard about! We came by about a month ago around 9am on a Saturday thinking the hype might have died down a bit and now the line is much more reasonable. We had about a 10 minute wait, the line was contained inside the store. We got the fish sandwich, pineapple bun with pineapple inside, pineapple bun with mango inside, ham/corn bun, and hot dog bun. The fish sandwich is only $3.50 and definitely lives up to the hype. Crispy crunchy on the outside, moist fish inside, creamy mayo, all inside a fluffy roll. Awesome! The filled pineapple buns were so-so- the pineapple and mango inside were too sweet for us, almost like candied. Hot dog bun was solid, we prefer the ham/corn bun at other Chinese bakeries. I've come again since then and a similar line so looks like regular people can come back again!

A true hole-in-the-wall spot with fried chicken sandwiches that absolutely live up to the hype. Stopped by after my walk -- and after dessert because apparently balance means cake first This small spot sits tucked into a strip mall near the freeway and honestly doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't judge a book by its cover because the food speaks for itself. The line was out the door when I got there, but the service moves really fast. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, fish sandwich, and a coconut roll. The chicken sandwich was easily the standout. Crispy, flavorful, and so good I basically inhaled the first one. Definitely recommend getting extra mayo. The fish sandwich was good too, but they use swai, which has a softer texture that just isn't my personal preference. The coconut roll was a nice sweet addition and worth trying. The service isn't overly warm or chatty, but they're efficient and get the job done quickly. Overall, a spot that proves good food doesn't need fancy presentation or aesthetics. Definitely somewhere I'd come back to for the chicken sandwich alone.

Came here for the sandwich and a few other other things not sure what the hype was about. The fish was just OK nothing too spectacular or drive a distance for. The chicken was too dry for my liking the pork buns could definitely use some help I'm used to having pork buns that are actually chunks of meat instead of like ground beef in a way. All in all, it's not for everyone

Visiting the hype. Actually hot, fresh and delicious. The chicken is super crispy, fish pretty delicate and tasty. The pineapple bun I have not bit into yet but it has a slice of butter. Who can go wrong with butter. I would come back here again. 4x chicken 4x fish 4x pineapple butter

    Fiona T.

The line moves pretty quick. They had 3 cashiers when I went. Their pineapple bun with butter was my favorite. The crust is a bit crispier than how most bakeries make them. The butter they choose goes well with it. It comes out warm and the butter starts melting. The fish sandwich and chicken sandwich are good. I didn't get to try the hotdog bun before someone else ate it but it was gone pretty quick when I brought it home.

I heard about this bakery on social media. I came to try the viral fish sandwich. When I entered the bakery I was greeted by staff. Staff were very friendly and polite. I brought fish sandwich and chicken sandwich. The fish sandwich was very delicious and very flavorful. The chicken sandwich was good. The ambiance is customer friendly. The bakery has many great food and bakery options.

Been hearing about this place for awhile now ! it's been blowing up on social media that it even reached my dad who is a big lover of fish filet sandwiches! He usually makes his rounds to Chinese bakeries on the weekends in the morning to grab for our family to eat for breakfast/lunch. He finally made his way here for the first time. He got the fish burgers, the ham/egg sandwiches, hot dog buns, chasiu baos, egg tarts, and salted egg yolk buns. definitely worth the price for the fish sandwiches! the buns are so soft and the fish fillets are amazing and huge for the price. highly recommended !

Do they run out of sandwiches by Noon, and does the line die down a bit from 9am-11am on a weekday?

I heard that they do but I arrived early so then I won't run into that problem. The line does die down some but when I arrived there was a line but the service was quick

Do they do large party orders, trays, etc.?

They do party orders if you give advance notice

Do they deliver to castro valley?

    No, they don't have delivery.
