Only 6 parties ahead of me and line moved super fast as there were 4 people working the counter. Ordered pineapple, cocktail, baked bbq pork buns, egg tart, sesame balls, eggrolls, fish sandwiches, har gow and siu mai. One noticeable thing about their buns are they are round and tall, unlike other Chinese bakeries which are more flat. -Bbq pork buns: fluffy and soft bread, good flavor on the char siu. -Pineapple bun: Cookie crust is crispy and generous (thick layer). -Cocktail bun: soft bread, generous filling so much so that there is filling from first to last bite. It's been a while since I found a good cocktail bun. -Sesame ball: lots of red bean filling, dough isn't super thick... nice and balanced. -Fish sando: are in high demand and come out hot and fresh. Fish is moist and has the perfect amount of seasoning. Wished there was just a little bit more mayo in the sando but they probably don't want to add too much to avoid making the crispy fish soggy. -har gow & siu mai: well made and good ingredients for bakery dim sum. Amazingly there was no wait on a Saturday afternoon around 2:50pm! Fish Sandwiches of course! The coconut tart and the chicken tail bun were quite good too. Parking was plentiful and easy. Value: 5/5 Fried Fish Sandwich: 4.5/5 The fried fish sandwich is really as good as they say it is. The only thing missing is maybe some shredded cabbage that you could add at home. These must be enjoyed fresh, I toasted one the next day and it just didn't hit like it did when it was fresh, although, still good. Hopefully you can pick a time to visit when it isn't super crowded. I suggest weekday early lunch around 11am or later around 2pm should be ok. Weekends guaranteed there's a long wait. The pork buns here are also good to try, they have a wide variety of other great baos, pineapple buns, egg tarts, you name it. They also sell frozen dimsum by the bag, available to steam at home. Yup, here for the first filet sandwiches. Stood in line at the front of the door and that took about 10-15 minutes to order and get my food. Fish filet buns looked like they got refilled for service like twice in that time. Everybody was also ordering at least 4-6+ from what I was overhearing and there was no stop in the flow. They're probably equipped for the larger lines now. Fish bun at $3.5 could use a little more sauce (like mayo?) because it was very minimal but the fry on the fish is pretty good for the price. It's not super thing either. BBQ pork buns $2.25 were actually pretty good. I'm a sucker for one and I'm always ordering it. Sesame balls are 3 for $4.50 and they tasted pretty average. We were visiting family and they mentioned this bakery close to their house. They mentioned how they went viral for their fish sandwiches, so I decided to give it try. I came late morning on a Sunday, and the parking lot was packed. There was a line out the door as expected. I think I was in line at least 30 minutes before I got to the front. Got to the front with my list of items ready. Definitely recommend having what you want ready to make everything go faster. Their online menu shows everything available. I did it, everyone. I finally was in the San Leandro area over the weekend and joined the line for the viral $3 fish sandy. I had some time around 1:30p on a Saturday and the line actually wasn't too bad (it moves pretty fast). What a cool gem for grab & go deliciousness and roadtrip snacks. It was also really fun chatting with others learning if it was their first time/what they've ordered before/recommendations, and more. I didn't know they had frozen, to-go items and I would have grabbed some things to take with us, but we had a full day ahead. The service was super quick, turn-key, and everyone was so nice. There was even a member of the staff that was working the line, taking orders with a pad of paper to speed up the movement. I ordered the Pineapple Butter Bun, BBQ Pork Bun, Chicken Breast Bun, Fish Filet Bun (these are now $3.50), Hot Dog Bun, BBQ Pork Pastry, and Coconut Tart. The Chicken Breast and Fish Filet Buns had just come out of the oven and were SO fresh, still piping hot, and honestly just delicious. The chicken and the fish were hearty pieces, the bun was soft and pillowy, not dry at all with the dollop of kewpie mayo, and just perfection for the price. Would love to order next time the Ham & Egg and Ham & Corn buns if we were able to get over there earlier before sell-out, and try more of the dim sum menu. It tasted like it was sweetened with honey in the best way, this was SO good and needs to be talked about more! The cocktail bun was good but too much bread to filling ratio, so I would pass on this. On the upside the filling had the right amount of sweetness to coconut ratio! Green onion bun was perfectly savory with an ample serving of scallion oil on top. I would get this again but only if I was craving! I wanted the pineapple bun with butter, but I said I'd like the pineapple bun, so if you want the stick of butter inside make sure you say WITH butter! This was surprisingly good too, the crumbly topping was just the right amount of sweet and the bun had a good texture. Unfortunately I don't like bread so I wouldn't get this just for me. The egg tarts here are VERY jello-y, not like a custard and heavy on the egg flavor. I wish the crust was flakier, but overall I enjoyed it. We were worried they might run out of food given they close at 3pm but they were still actively baking food and didn't seem to be out of anything. Shame on me for not checking my previous yelp reviews as we ended up getting the baked bbq pork buns and the ham sui gok again despite my previous warning to myself that I didn't like them (which rang true again this time), but the fish and chicken sandwiches were nice additions. Fish sandwiches were definitely the star though and we'd opt to get straight fish sandwiches next time instead of mixing it up with the chicken version. Chinese born American here to say... I can see why this place is so hyped. Chinese pastries have been a staple in my life. Soft, chewy, semi-sweet.. consistent. And then you add in what everyone loves, fried... fish/chicken. That is exactly why. Thinking about it, there aren't a lot of pastries out similar to Chinese pastries so it makes sense on why this bakery has gotten so popular. However, I would recommend for everyone to try more Chinese bakeries though, as you could find much better quality bread. I found this bakery a bit more dry. The fried fish was super small so the bread to fish ratio was terrible. You may have better luck with the chicken. There were 3-4 staff servicing during my visit and if this is the usual, then the long lines flows decently. Seating is available but I'd say this is more of a grab and go space. The fish sandwich punched above its weight for something so simple and inexpensive. I tried one in the parking lot while fish was still hot from the fryer. The panko breading was crispy and the filet was tender. Their bun was very pillowy and had a bit of sweetness typical of an Asian bakery. There was a bit of mayo but I would have liked more. Flavor-wise the sandwich was a bit mild but the layers of textures make it really good. I got home thirty minutes later and tried the chicken sandwich. It was absolutely inferior. Finally checked this place out on a Sunday just before 12pm and the line was minimal (only took about 5-10 min) the line grew to double the size after 12pm. The fried chicken and fish sandwiches for only $3.75 was super worth it ! I enjoyed the large pieces of meat , and fried fresh, also the buns were super soft and tasted better than what you would get from a fast food restaurant. The taro bun was just okay. My mom has been coming here for over a decade and love(d) their purple yam bun; however, it seems that the hype may have inflated their egos and led to a decline in quality. The purple yam buns we ordered the other day had minimal to *no* purple yam in it. In fact, they had taken flour and colored it purple to pass off as purple yam when it's actually now filled with a dense bread/cake-like substance (see photo). Super disappointing that they would cheapen out like this. They should either increase the price to account for the increase in cost of ingredients or not falsely advertise that they are selling a bun with purple yam filling and maybe, just not sell it all. It's super deceiving that they are now deliberately coloring the dense bread/cake filling to be purple when it was previously purple yam paste. It's obvious that it does not taste the same. We had about a 10 minute wait, the line was contained inside the store. We got the fish sandwich, pineapple bun with pineapple inside, pineapple bun with mango inside, ham/corn bun, and hot dog bun. The fish sandwich is only $3.50 and definitely lives up to the hype. Crispy crunchy on the outside, moist fish inside, creamy mayo, all inside a fluffy roll. Awesome! The filled pineapple buns were so-so- the pineapple and mango inside were too sweet for us, almost like candied. Hot dog bun was solid, we prefer the ham/corn bun at other Chinese bakeries.
