The spot is outdoors and it was pretty easy to order from the pos, there's people around to reply with any questions so it's not all robot like. They have covered seating and umbrellas, a few longer tables that are covered, and a couple fire pits so it creates warms and a vibe. A dog bowl is already filled with water and for the breeze they have blankets for you to use if you're chilly while seating with them. After ice cream and some playtime on Hollywood Beach, it was obviously time for actual food! We wandered over here for something relatively quick, but also they gave us a nice representation of the sea bounty available in the area. The place was busy as we came at 6 o'clock on a warm, sunny, sunny evening. It was about as perfect a night as you could ask for! The folks working here we're all very friendly, especially the gentleman manning the register. He did an amazing job of cutting a couple of folks understand that they were doing their best and would get their food out to them as quick as possible. The guy might need to write a book someday! The food here was solid. It wasn't the best ever, but it was above average. The five of us ended up splitting a crabwitch, and a thing of fish and chips. We grabbed some extra fish and some shrimp, and a night was made! It wasn't surprising that things were expensive. Nobody's giving away food these days, and certainly not crab. The crab sandwich was something like $33, and despite the hefty price tag, it was very good. We were able to sit outside on some picnic tables, listening to the ocean and watching boats, big and small, float by. It was a pretty wonderful night! We stopped in on the way to the Canada Dry dragon boat festival and we had a wait for the Blackball. My partner is gluten free and loves fish and chips so the Fish and Crab Shack seemed made for her! Or food came fast and the rockfish was awesome! The fish was flakey, the crusting crispy, and the seasoning spot on. The fish and chips comes with a small slaw, some tartar, and a pickle. Honestly, the taste was 5 stars. The friendly service also 5 stars. I wish I could only deduct 1/2 star but I can't... my only gripes: Very little tartar sauce (it was that good so more would be better) and the soda fountain was bubble-less. Everything flat. This was the best dinner stop after visiting Forks and Cape Flattery. A member of our group has Celiac so we wanted a gluten free fish and chip stop on our trip and this place was perfect. My hubby and I split the fish and chips and the coconut shrimp. The fish and chips were crispy and so fresh. The coconut shrimp were out of this world! We enjoyed the fire pit, blankets, and water front views. They have overhead heaters at the rectangular tables. They are leashed dog and kid friendly and have good beer on tap. We finally tried the Fish shack and had a great lunch! It is a cute spot with a couple heatlamp tables and a dozen round tables that turn over pretty quickly. It's a quick self service eatery along the pier where you order at the counter and they call your number to pick up your own food. You also bust your table yourself. We had the rockfish Poboy that had a tasty aïoli, a mild coleslaw on top of a somewhat small piece of fish served on a toasty bun, very tasty fries, w/ malt vinegar available (yum), it was a perfect size where you could just finish your food in one sitting, which, when eating at a crab shack is probably preferred as you're probably going to walk about or catch a boat.) It was somewhat high priced, but the quality was good and the beers were only $7, so the price average overall for the meal was competitive in downtown waterfront Port Angeles. Amazing Fish and Chips!! I came to visit this local spot around 2pm on a Sunday. It was quite busy, and all tables were taken. I ordered their fish and chips (GF) and clam chowder bowl. The total came out to be around $40. I waited about 15 minutes before the food came out. The fish and chips were so tasty, probably the best fish and chips I've ever had in Seattle. The tartar sauce was also perfect to dip in. I liked how light the breading was, and the fish and chips weren't too greasy either. The fish was really fresh, and I will come visit this place everytime I pass by Port Angeles. The clam chowder wasn't as good as the fish and chips though, it came out room temp, and I wish it was warmer. Taste was ok though. Location- If you're not familiar with the area, it may take a minute to find. Once there, enjoy outdoor seating right next to a pier. On chilly days, there are heating lamps available for three of the tables, and a stack of blankets to borrow as well. We sat under the covered area, enjoying the heat lamps on a cool evening. The sound of the water and seagulls and the breeze coming off the water made the experience wonderful. Even though we could hear gulls, no birds came around the eating area. Food- We tried shrimp, rockfish, chowder, and nuggets (from the kids menu). The shrimp were amazing! There's a nice walk-in area to get fountain drinks. You can also order a few beer or wine options. Their sign indicated it would take about 12 minutes per order but they surprised us with our entire order after about 8 minutes. My wife and I shared the Crab Shackwich, Fish Shackwich and a Bowl of Clam Chowder. I preferred the Fish Shackwich over the Bowl of Clam Chowder over the Crab Shackwich. As for the ambiance... Very good food at a nice location on the wharf where you can watch the ferry arrive and leave. Bring a jacket though, because it gets breezy and there is no indoor seating. We came here after considering a handful of other seafood places in town. We were looking for something relatively simple, and their menu hit all the right notes. It's located on the outside of the wharf building, and is a basic walk-up window where you place your order on a touch screen and wait for your name to be called. They've set up several tables for dining, including a few that are covered with radiant heat, for those of us who came unprepared for cooler evening weather. What we enjoyed that day: PNW rockfish and chips - three lightly-breaded filets with plenty of fries. The fish was excellent - light, moist, and flaky. It was probably lacking just a little bit of salt, but with the lemon and tartar sauce it made for a satisfying meal Shrimp and chips - the shrimp was breaded in a way that we haven't seen before, and it was really good. We would read later that it's a quinoa-based breading. The shrimp was cooked properly; not tough and rubbery. Fish po'boy - pretty much the same fish filet on a roll. The aioli was key to making this dish come together. When we ate here, it came with both fries and hush puppies, but as I look at the online menu now I don't see hush puppies anywhere. I'll have to say (as at least one other person here has written), the hush puppies were a big miss. The interior was very dry and had an unappealing powdery texture. This certainly needs to be reworked. Service was friendly, but a little slower than expected on the day we visited. The Cole slaw was sooo delicious, the exact amount of mayo and great amount of mustard flavor. It's probably one of my personal favorite Cole slaws in awhile. The hush puppies were my least favorite. The food was ready promptly and I liked the little condiment nook a great deal, but the tables and chairs are on gravel, which makes it really hard to scoot your chair in and out. The fries were definitely above average to my taste, but my crab sandwich was very bland. The clam chowder was good, but not $10 for a cup good. There are other restaurants in town with table service that have better clam chowder and better crab sandwiches for the same money or less. Definitely fresh and delicious fish and chips. Cooked to order complete with signage explaining how long your order will take. I had the classic fish and chips which came with two pieces of perfectly fried fish. I believe it was cod but can't remember. The coating was a crispy panko style coating, not a thick batter at all. A condiment station with malt vinegar made it perfect. The French fries were delicious and the coleslaw was a great accompaniment of coolness with the meal. I added a little salt and pepper to it because it was a simple mayonnaise sauce on the coleslaw. A side pickle and lemon slices complimented the meal perfectly. At the condiment station I noticed blankets who had patrons could grab if it was a chilly day. There is a small selection of beer, wine and nonalcoholic choices. The seating area was medium size but we took a table more outside. It was windy but not cold on a sunny day in July. I recommend wearing a hat! And of course I love my hats. And I really wanted to order that, but I didn't know how much food we would be getting. We got a whole crab, and fish and chips. The fish is breaded (not batter) which is OK, but the picture on the screen looked more like a batter-fried. The flavor was OK, I didn't love it - didn't hate it either. Hubby loved the whole crab option. Napkins, melted butter, ketchup, mayo, wet-wipes, silverware, etc. are all self-serve. Seating is all outside, no inside seating option. The Crab Shackwich was two kinds of crab creamed together with cheese on panini toast. Flavor was OK, but nothing stood out at all. Served with OK- at-best coleslaw and very good, rustic fries. Fish & chips hadgood flavor but tiny bit overcooked - the batter seemed overly crispy. Served with same fair coleslaw and yummy fries. Total bill for the meal (with one glass of tea) was $65. VERY EXPENSIVE for fair food with no table service and cheap napkins. We were expecting very good food at those prices and were disappointed overall. No tartar sauce available . The aioli was great but too thin. Coleslaw was okay. Bowl of clam chowder $15.00 was without flavor, potatoes or clams. Strong shot of butter on top. Oyster crackers were stale (little bags) and you had to go get your silverware, napkins and salt/pepper everything. Totally self-serve. Of course the payment program starts with a 15% tip and up.
