Always enjoyed eating at the Pub 99. The bar area is usually kept in a nice clean state and there's always lots of seats with good views of TV. The food is good for a chain restaurant. I don't stray too much from my usual few dishes but I never seem to get a bad meal. Most of the time if an appetizer and main dish are ordered, some food comes home with us, which is always nice. Staff are always super friendly. The music could be improved, they are all over the map and its usually the WORST music you could hear. read more

We were looking for a place that has a gluten free menu. My daughter has celiac and is also a picky eater. This place is awesome! ! She was able to have a cheeseburger with a gluten free bun and loved it too. It was very simple but tasty for the rest of us too. The steak and ribs are very tasty as well. I'm rather indifferent to if a sever is "friendly" or not, but this guy had the personality of wallpaper. It is a health code violation to use the same fryolator But today in my experience in this location, I found a shrimp in my buffalo chicken. The manager who served us food, knowing of someone in my party having a seafood allergy, looked at me and even admitted that they must've used the same fryolator. The manager was at least nice about replacing my buffalo chicken and fries after her own mess ups but the way she reacted to the sea food with my chicken made me a bit worried of my sister's meal, luckily her food isn't fried. If she would've gotten something fried she would be in the hospital right now, there should be something done to make sure they aren't using the same fryolators read more

My first experience with this establishment was not under the best of circumstances. We had just moved here, nothing was unpacked and we needed to pick up a few things from the store to survive the night. We saw this place nearby and decided to have a go and were pleasantly surprised at how good this place actually is. At first glance you would think this place is just a cheap Applebees rip-off, but it is actually surpasses them by a large margin. The food is pretty remarkable. A little heavy on the sodium, but otherwise on par with most local places that charge top-notch price, and even better than some. The atmosphere is what you would expect. The music reminds me of high school and college, so it doubly resonates with me. They serve beer, so hooray! Word of caution, many places like this are only as good as what you order. If you order a BBQ brisket and expect Texas, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you want a decent generic steak with a nice glaze and good side, you'll be just fine. If you just want a nice dinner with the kids, give it a shot. Expect 10-15 dollars a person, more if you include alcohol. read more

It's a chain restaurant like others have mentioned with a casual dining style like Applebee's, Chilis, or Ruby Tuesday. The prices are comparable as well. They have a bar too so you can get some spirits as well. They have a lot of booth seating so that is nice and they have free popcorn too. I've never had bad experiences here in the handful of times I've been here in the past couple years. The location is convenient in the shopping complex so you can hit up Wally World or the other stores too. It's fine for casual dining like others have mentioned. read more

The food isn't that great . I went twice just to make sure I still felt the same way as I did when I first went . I ordered a burger and I ended up having food poison. The waiter was really nice and I appreciate his due diligence on making sure my friend and I were satisfied. They do not let your order bone in wings at the table, you have to order it at the bar which is so weird to me. The second time I went , I got fish and chips . Tonight we took our twin daughters to 99 Newport to celebrate their 9th birthday. I almost vomited when one of the girls pulled a big fingernail clipping out of her mouth and said it was from the ice cream sundae she was eating. The manager confirmed that it was a fingernail clipping and said she would talk to the staff about being more careful. Really?? More careful?? How about talking to them about not clipping their nails in the kitchen!! I'm sickened by the whole event. read more

Really great food and service! There was a meal for everyone and we all loved the food! Our waiter, Myles, was amazing! He made a personal connection with every table and person and joked around with us. He checked on us enough times, without intruding on our meal. I haven't been to a 99 in years and I was disappointed. We ordered to chicken pot pies on a slow Monday night. It seemed the staff was more taken with the patrons that were frequent flyers. Our water was hardly kept filled. The meals took a good 25 minutes to come out. While they were good, I don't think I will be going back. For a chain this place has awesome service. I've been there three times in the past 2 months and it was great every time. On a busy Friday, they have 3-4 bartenders which is awesome when you want a quick bite. The perfect place to go if you want to avoid the crazy downtown crowds. read more

I've never been so turned off by a restaurant employee when going out for lunch. At 1:30 in the afternoon I decided to treat myself to lunch at the 99 on Connell highway in Newport Rhode Island. The hostess had no personality whatsoever and she basically had a "come with me" attitude. She sat me down at a table where there was no TV and nothing going on around me. the waitress came to my table and I asked her if I could be seated by a TV because it was boring where I was. She politely told me to go back to the hostess and ask for a table near TV. After giving me a "humph" reaction, the hostess led me to a very small table in the corner where the TV was tucked in the corner up above my head. I'm 6'4" and the table was a thoughtless spot. Additionally, in order to watch the TV I had to bend my neck up in an uncomfortable position. When I asked her for somewhere else because I didn't want to be looking up at such an angle she says, "well those are your only two options." My reaction was, "well I guess I'm not eating here today then." Her reaction was just, "OK." Business must be really good at the 99 during Covid to be able to turn away customers in a 99% empty restaurant during the start of a snowstorm. read more

Very upset ... came here with some friends for my son's birthday and the waitress was not very good .... she never cleared our table of our appetizers when our meal came out. We asked for her to take some of the plates away she said sure once you stack them up I'll take them out of your way. She never came to check on our food until we were already done. Casual family dining, but definitely nicer than Friendly's or similar places. Much better value than Ruby Tuesday. This particular location in Newport has been known to support the military, which is a definite plus. Last year we were treated to a free Easter dinner for our whole family, and the kids were all given Easter goodies as well. They always give a 10% discount to military. I think it's interesting that they give "free" popcorn before your meal. I don't quite understand it because it tends to help fill us up, so I have never had room for dessert there. My absolute favorite dish there is the Sweet Southern Fried Chicken. I never would have thought of drizzling honey on fried chicken, but MAN! I am hooked! They have a fairly wide variety of choices on the kids menu, which is a plus for me. Chicken Parmigiana, steak-finger bites, honey mustard chicken salad, teriyaki chicken, and sirloin steak in kid-size portions are a fab addition to the standard burger, grilled cheese, etc. I like how the restaurant is set up, how you can adjoin booths. A group of friends and I decided to drop in for Thursday night trivia. Naturally, we had a rather large group due to trivia, nine to be exact. We told the attendant we were there for trivia and our group size. She informed us it would be a short wait. 30 minutes later, who I am assuming is the shift manager (she failed to properly introduce herself), informed us that there is no way to get a table for trivia. We were disappointed after being told a short wait, having waited 30 minutes already, and not being able to participate in trivia. We said we would pass on trivia but stay for food which we could have been seated for almost immediately. The manager, or whoever, apologized and comped us with free appetizers. Two free appetizers for a group of nine. I'm thankful for the free apps but two for nine people is pushing it especially since we were hungry before we even arrived. The server brought us waters after twenty minutes. Never took our actual drink orders until someone specifically stated they wanted something other than water. The food didn't take terribly long for a large group. I got a Mediterranean salad. It was soaked in salad dress and overall not incredibly appetizing. My friend ordered medium rare steak tips which came out well done. I ordered a Bubble Green Tea as a drink, nonalcoholic. There was no description of the drink but it was an overly sweet orange soda equivalent. I did not enjoy it but I suppose I was taking a risk with it to begin with. The place was not as clean as I would have liked. No toilet paper in the bathrooms. The server was nice, but not outstanding. I tipped her well for putting up with a large group AND splitting checks for us and no added gratuity. I would never come back here, especially with all the other delicious dining options Newport has to offer. Save your time, patience, and taste buds. Oh, and they have 50 cent, maybe 30 cent? wings on Thursdays at 7:00pm. Which they ran out of before 7:30pm, so no one in our party was able to enjoy the wings. read more

Barf...this place looks nice on the outside but resembles a restaurant from the 80s on the inside. I expected the hostess to ask if we wanted smoking or non-smoking. The music was 70s to 90s light rock and was depressing. The food was terrible. My boneless buffalo wings came out still half frozen. I sent it back and it was was still cold in places when they brought it out the 2nd time, as if they microwaved it. The burgers our kids had contained what seemed like small ground up bone parts and they would not eat them (I don't blame them). The only thing that tasted good was the fries, but how hard are those? All in all, it was a total waste of my money and we won't be going back. On a positive note, our waitress was good and attentive. Their problem isn't with service...it's a corporate problem that can't be solved at the local level. read more
