Have not been to NAndover 99 in a long time, decided to try it for lunch. Stood waiting for a hostess to be seated for 10 minutes. No one around. When the hostess finally showed up, she took a phone call and then went to the bar to ask two people if they wanted a table before she waited on us. She was not friendly or welcoming at all. Finally, she sat us next to a filthy table, littered with food on it and underneath it. And there were many other table like this. My husband and I left after sitting there for another 10 minutes with no one waiting on us. Did not want to sit and look at a mess and also get poor service. read more

A small group of us decided on getting together for their happy hour, which is really an app hour. The special runs from 2 - 5 and then later in the evening until close. Entering we noticed that the restaurant was almost vacant which could have been due to the time of day or do I say what else. .. As dead as it was there were no 5 seats to be had together at the bar. So we sat at a high top and made it work - still in the bar area in order to qualify for the specials. We waited a very long time for anyone to show up so we could order drinks.. And when the server did arrive he has a difficult time understanding when we requested separate checks. Anyway we ordered our drinks and we waited and waited and waited... He did bring them but then it was one at a time... Finally the last one we saw made on a tray but sitting on another table without the server.... It had to belong to our table because there was no one else there but us. I was just about to get up for a serve yourself, but he showed up and brought it over .. After I don't know how long we ordered what we wanted to eat. The app menu was nowhere in sight and the server had no idea what we were talking about. So one in my party opened the menu on his phone. Then the server decided that he needed to get approval from the manager? So another 10 minutes or so went by ... It just was one thing after the next. When the food was served it was one by one. No one at the table served together. I ordered the crispy cauliflower and was the first to be served. .. not a utensil or a napkin. Someone from the kitchen had brought it out & ran .. I waited politely but again - no server. So I got up and walked over to the bar to ask & not one of the 3 bartenders even looked up. Now I've got food getting cold and nothing to eat it with. . I wasn't pleased. Finally one of the 3 made her way out and I asked her for some utensils and napkins... Again I've got to wait because she asked another... So this type of thing continued. Each person served one by one and another would be finished by the time another was served his etc. While this insanity went on our server showed up and announced he was leaving for the day... Okay! While there we were never asked if we wanted another drink or refill ...if our food was ok etc. BTW, it was nearly inedible. I didn't expect the service, drinks or food to be impeccable ....but this was completely ridiculous. The only reason why we didn't just leave was because it was so cold out & I really didn't want to deal with figuring out somewhere else to go. Not sure if I will attempt this again... This particular 99 gets the distinction of being the only place I've ever visited to require two forms of identification just to get a drink at the bar. Because I don't have a Massachusetts license, the woman at the bar asked me to provide something else with my name on it to confirm my identity. She then took my driver's license and my credit card to back to show the manager or whoever just so she could serve me a drink with maybe one shot of alcohol. I don't know if this is common practice at all 99 locations or just this one, but of all the cities and states I have visited this is the only one that required something more than my ID. Anyway, it's a pretty standard chain restaurant/pub. I go there more for the drinks than the food since the selection is pretty good and they're open later than most places in the area. It's a good place to go with friends to watch a sports game since there's multiple TV screens at the bar and throughout the restaurant. Needless to say if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dinner, you'll want to look elsewhere. read more

After a long day in the office, two fellow employees and I decided to shoot over to the 9's and grab a brew and some food. Upon being seated we were asked what we would like to drink and if we would like popcorn. Popcorn at the 9's is something I constantly find myself craving. The way they tenderly roast the kettle corn is ALWAYS desirable. However this time, my brothers and I were in for an unexpected treat. Is this an un-popped kernel? As I chomped down on the microscopic remains (from what must've been scooped from an empty popcorn popper) which tasted from days past, I nearly lost a tooth. I took a quick glance at the table next to mine where they had just received a fresh bowl of popcorn. fully popped mind you, and ready to be devoured and enjoyed. My mouth watered as I stared down their popcorn for about 20 minutes while I ate pure popcorn kernel waiting for my food. They also had cheese and crackers. My comrades and I were not offered such gift? After 20 minutes of eating popcorn kernels and resorting to eating bubble tea orbs and ice to tame my hunger, my meal had finally arrived. I've never eaten a burger so fast in my life. And I am now facing the repercussions on the toilet as I write this. Although I had ordered peppers and mushrooms on my burger, I had only gotten peppers. I didn't realize the mushrooms weren't on there until I took the very last bite and the waitress turned the corner with my sautéed mushrooms in hand. We paused and looked at eachother and she handed me my mushrooms.. -_- So there I was, sitting at the table, my burger and fries consumed, my bubble tea gone, and a small dish of microwaved baby bella mushrooms staring me in the face. I had no choice but to sit at the table and quietly wonder to myself what I had done to deserve this. She eventually brought the check over to the table but by that point we were all ready to order another entrée. But with the check paid we were out of there as fast as we could run. read more

We went back and forth between outback and 99 because we wanted ribs but were lured into the 99 because of the promise of Dijon crusted haddock which my dad would love. When I went to order online, the Dijon haddock was not available. Ok. He loves broiled scallops, second choice. Not available. Still, they had a haddock option for him which outback did not so, we ordered. We were so looking forward to some fall off the bone ribs but unfortunately the ribs that we got tonight were more naw off the bone. During my first visit...Service was very slow. We had to ask for silverware and napkins and plates multiple times. Food was ordinary. Food is pretty okay for a chain restaurant. Didn't expect it to be 5 star. The portions were just enough for a full meal and service was quick. The bar service was a little slow at times. No real complaints about the food quality given the reasonable prices. 50 cent wings were very good (Thursday nights only). Went here another evening to try their trivia (starts about 7:30 on Thursdays). The girl running it said it was her first night and unfortunately failed to stop the music for long enough to finish most questions. Many questions seemed to be geared towards a middle-aged crowd; discouraged, we ended up leaving with a few questions left to go. Since we are new in town we had come to the 99 bar on a previous Saturday based off recommendations from various people at our workplaces that this was the "place to go for drinks" since we couldn't find a happening bar to be regulars at. My margarita was good (regular and watermelon) and their beers run tall, but we don't think this will be our go-to spot given the older age group and general non-business at peak bar weekend hours. read more

I only ordered desert tonight, but I was impressed with how Dan warned/cautioned me about the hot dish. I would also like to note how beautiful the cookie dish was when it was delivered to my table. We live close to the North Andover 99. Recently, we have ordered their take out on-line several times, and have really liked the food and the convenience is great - provide a description of your vehicle, park in front in one of the designated spaces, and a pleasant 99 employee brings you your food. Several +++ recent experiences. Last night, we ordered my favorite - Fried Scrod dinner - at $13.19 for 2 very nice pieces of fish and 2 sides, and is a great deal. The fish is, as always, wonderful - very fresh. My other favorite is the $5.69 crock of Seafood Chowder, which is also very fresh. We also tried the Broccoli / Cheese soup and French Onion Soup which were very good (just 2 little packs of crackers for 3 soups?- cost control I guess) My only negative: We didn't like their Chicken soup. Went here with my daughter and son last Sunday, April 9th. Our waitress Kim was so unpleasant that it made our dining experience very uncomfortable. First we asked for 3 waters with lemon. Got the water, no lemon. Waited about 15 minutes for her to come by so I could ask once more for our lemon. Said we needed just ONE more minute to decide what to order. Over a half hour later, she returned. While we were waiting, Kim was standing one table over, watching the manager (or cook) speak to those customers about their food allergies while she leaned against the end of their booth. Kim stood there and didn't come over to our table, even though our menus were put down and I was looking straight at her. This waitress, Kim, has NO personality and does not know how to be pleasant to customers. I think she hates her life. Next problem: our food. My daughter and I both ordered the sliced sirloin. My "medium well" steak was VERY well done. No pink in the middle like it should be. My daughter's "medium RARE" was almost well done. The broccoli looked brownish, like it was getting old, and was not cooked at all. It's like they cut a few florets off an old head and didn't attempt to cook them. Vegetables... a total waste. My son ordered the Roast Beef Pub Dip, which he said was fine. On top of the steaks and broccoli not being cooked properly, the meals were stone cold! And the plates were cold! I asked to have mine microwaved. Came back--still cold. Had to send it back one more time. Doesn't their microwave work??? Was barely lukewarm, but I needed to eat. Sad to say this was not what I expected since I've eaten here before and it was wonderful. Granted, that was a while ago. So... did they replace the cook? As for Kim, time to let her go. It pains me to update my review, but the food I had during my last visit was so awful I didn't have a choice. Normally, my husband and I LOVE the lobster rolls here. I know it sounds odd to get a lobster roll at the 99, but this location has always had consistently great lobster rolls. Well, the one I ordered this past week will be my last. I cannot believe how downhill they've gone - it was COMPLETELY mayonnaise-laden and gross. There were also about 3 forkfuls of lobster. It was horrid. I didn't say anything because I don't like to make a fuss and we normally really enjoy this 99, but it was borderline inedible. The lobster itself was fresh, but it was drowning in mayo and there was hardly any of it. Beyond disappointed. My friend ordered their baked stuffed lobster tail/shrimp combo and it was average at best. The lobster tail tasted off and the shrimp were drowning in butter and covered in tasteless mounds of stuffing. I'm sorry to say that I'm not sure if we'll be back. read more

One star is for the bartender that let my friend make a slight change to her meal and said it shouldn't be a problem. The other is for the meal that I did enjoy...the grilled turkey kebabs with yogurt sauce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and couscous (one of the healthier lower calorie options on 99's menu.) However, I took my mother back for her birthday and we tried the New England fried shrimp entrees. Awful. The coating used on the shrimp was very salty and just had an odd taste to me. The shrimp were pathetically tiny and didn't have a shrimp taste. And despite sitting in a booth, the dining area felt very cramped and claustrophobic to me. And the clientele here...well...not the classiest bunch, if you know what I mean. Guess that's to be expected; it's the 99. But back in the day it used to be so much better. read more

The only thing worth going to the 99's these days is for the "Gold Fever Wings". The quality has gone down hill. The lunch menu is now smaller than ever. After watching my niece's field hockey team win in double overtime, I was cold and hungry. So we stopped at the 99's for a late dinner. Although our waitress was nice, I could tell she just wanted to go home. I didn't blame her, the place had that "old restaurant smell." I wasn't expecting much and did not get it. I ordered the Wedge salad and Teriyaki Sirloin. But The portions were small, but fine for me. The wedge salad was fine. The problem was with the lack of cooking. The kitchen just rushed the meal so my rice was crunchy, the snow peas were under cooked and there was no glaze of tasty pineapple sauce. One star here. My wife and I were out today for a Sunday drive. We decided to stop in here for lunch today. As our last experience here a couple months ago was a great one. What a difference this time! Our waiter took our order without writing it down. And he got it wrong right off the bat. He brought us buffalo wings instead of the gold fever we ordered. And we asked for the XL serving. And when he brought us the right wings they were not! And only said " Well it's give or take the same size". What???!! And then our food was half cold, or over cooked. Ninety Nines really have begun to disappoint as of late. This one has no outright bad experience it's just always the same, the people don't seem genuinely interested and the food is just plain. Nothing spectacular. It is a good deal but has fallen out of my favorites for cheap, and easy sit down restaurants. Ah, the Nines. Playground of my high school days. Let's be real, the 99 doesn't have the best food around but they have the food you crave. I remember going there sometimes just to get the Midnight Towering Fudge Cake, a decadent monstrosity of a dessert that can easily be split between several people, leaving none hungry. The Nines is a solid stand by, I ordeed something that I never had from the Nines before, and it was damn good. It was an apple, walnut, grilled chicken salad that had gorgonzola cheese. There are a bunch of 99 restaurants in New England, but the one on Route 125 in North Andover really stands out as a great place.. It also compares well to the many other choices in the area (Jamie's, The Loft, Joe Fish, Salvatore's, etc.). The food is consistently good, and some dishes are truly excellent (my favorite is the seasoned salmon "fit plate"). Burgers are awesome and the signature boneless buffalo wings are positively addictive (go for the golden sauce). The 99 is really two restaurants in one. In the middle is quite a large and comfortable bar. Around the outside is a family-oriented place with booth seating. TVs with sports are throughout. The servers are all very well trained and attentive. Special kudos to Peter (who has been there for more than 40 years), Nina, JoJo, Andy and managers Bill and Clint. Bar patrons are greeted with a nice bowl of popcorn that is continually refilled. The popcorn is popped fresh each day in house. Drinks are great and it's all reasonably priced. There are usually some good specials, which a rolled out from "corporate" on a monthly basis and around holidays. I've never had a steak there, but have seen many consumed and they look quite good. The recently introduced Lobster mac and cheese also looks quite good. Bone-in wings are served on Thursdays and on football game days. What I also like is that they are constantly doing surveys in order to improve. I highly recommend it the 99 on Rt 125 (and if you're cool, you just call it "the nines"). read more

To begin...it was freezing in there. Everyone was wearing their jackets and asking why it was so cold. The server and manager acknowledged it was cold but didn't say why and couldn't fix it. The hostess opened the door for us and then sat everyone that came in after us before she sat us. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal but we had a young child with us and therefore it was a big deal. She proceeded to walk us to the last table closest to the kitchen and ask all of the servers who wanted a table-where two servers said "not me." What the hell? Food was on a spectrum from mediocre to bad. Steak tips were pretty good. Mozzarella moons were okay but served on a freezing cold plate. Roast beef sandwich special was awful-basically inedible. Salad and fries were subpar. We asked the server for coffee to drink (mostly because it was freezing)and the waitress said she needed to make some. Appetizers arrived, then food arrived minutes later-still no coffee. Kind of a bummer cause I used to like this place and told my husband it was good and he was the one with the horrible sandwich. read more

Please read whole review the second paragraph is where it gets really bad. Tonight my fiancé ordered chicken fingers and they were super shrimpy compared to the usual at other locations. So he asked for new ones to blonde woman server who wasn't our server. Due to the fact that the server never checked on us to make sure our food was good. The blonde server told us she talked to the kitchen and they were going to make new ones. My fiancé offered to give his current ones back and the blonde server said he could keep them. Later as we are nearing finishing eating. Our server a brunette girl with a pony tail comes over and asks my fiancé while he is eating to move his potato and fries off of the plate with the shrimpy (bottom of the barrel) chicken fingers to the other plate so she can take the "no good ones away". I tried to say what are you doing. She replied he said these are no good so I'm taking them out of the way. Meanwhile, we were told we could keep them and this whole conversation was interrupting my fiancé eating his meal in peace. She required him to move his baked potato and fries to a different plate. This is absolutely ridiculous! I've worked in a restaurant... and interrupting a customer while they are eating especially to do something like that is a big NO NO! read more

Me and my girlfriend where on our way back from Maine decided to stop and try it out, cause neither of us had ate there, plus we are starving. We had only been there long enough to order two waters when some douchebag complained about our small dog in the car. First of all, he was fine in the car it was only about 70 some degree not as hot like down here. Second, we put shades up and cracked the windows. Third, we park out of the sunlight. I think there's a law in North Andover that mandates every resident visit the 99 at least once a week. I'm not even kidding. Other rules associated with this law: -If you're a senior citizen, you must report before 5:00pm with your son or daughter. Dementia always welcomed. -If you're in high school, you must report before or after local sports events, and dress like a whore. Be sure to annoy the other customers as well. -If you're a student at Merrimack College, report for drinks several nights a week. -If you're a student at a different college, and just home on break, meet your friends here for beers before hitting up The Claddagh in Lawrence. -If you're a local mom or dad, please be sure to drink a few too many beers or glasses of wine, hit on a local single parent, and then stumble over to the booth where your child is sitting with their friends and embarrass them.
