It's great to see something fresh, homey and healthy in downtown San Pedro. I love Vietnamese food and these guys make authentic bang mi, pho, bun, and even have the pour over coffee down. I had given up hope on getting good Vietnamese food without head to OC, but every visit here has been refreshing. Staff is super friendly, always looking for feedback, chatting with patrons and making adjustments/suggestions. The cutest pho place. Parking is meh but I just moved close by so this is within walking distance for me. VERY cute on the inside and outside. Went on Saturday evening, about an hour before last call (7:45pm is last call) there was no line but plenty of business, good amount of seating for their little shop but might need more in the future! Staff is so friendly and helpful when it comes to ordering. Ordered lots of food and received it all in less than 10 minutes. Pho Tai Filet Mignon - 7/10: Broth is more acidic and sour compared to other restaurant broths, the red onion addition makes it feel more homemade which I loved. Pricing is a bit high but for a small business I get it. I'm all for supporting local business. Nuoc Mam Wings - 8/10: I've never had fish sauce before but LOVED these wings. Breading was light and crispy, would absolutely come back for these. Pandan Waffle - 9/10: LOVED this. Mochi like texture, could taste the pandan and the condensed milk is PERFECT. This could be my new favorite find in San Pedro! A little hole-in-the-wall, a bit of chill, a lot of good food. Oh, btw it's just called Saigon Cafe as I was told the"Oi" is just something like an accent mark. So don't call in and say is this the "Saigon Oi! Cafe" like out of an AC-DC song as you might be embarrassed. The food is TNT good for flavor though. The wings were good - it seems every nationality has a chicken wing recipe that is good - good egg rolls & be sure to make use of the lettuce + fixins for a nice wrap experience as it does taste better. I had a banh mi sandwich our friends had pho. All was good, maybe a tad pricey but good. The staff is efficient and friendly if the pace slows a bit. To note: 1/ the space is a bit tiny and traffic flows in and out / if you hit it at the wrong time the seating for more than 2 could be tough; 2/ the hours - nobody seemed to know the hours in our party. There are no hours on the door. There are no hours on the menu. One person in our group claim that Thursday was a good day, but another said they arrived on a Thursday and it was closed. I was there on a Thursday and all was good - open til 8:30. So maybe call before you go. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 3/ I didn't get a chance to play but they have a retro Nintendo cartridge game set up - you even have to run through a vcr to make it work. Came in the first time to try since I was at the korean friendship bell nearby with my nieces . Let me start off with the ambiance . Cute lanterns outside . Inside is just as cute . Love the vibe. What a great little gem of a Vietnamese restaurant did my sister introduce me to today. After our normal Tuesday of cooking for the needy in San Pedro, we debated on where to dine. She was told recently about a new Vietnamese restaurant nearby and that's where we found Saigon Oi Cafe. We had a great conversation with the owner at the counter and proceeded to order Nuoc Mam wings, pork and beef Banh Mi sandwiches, fresh spring rolls and my favorite, Oxtail Pho for takeout. Everything was packaged nicely and all that we ordered was delicious. Honestly, this was our first venture into Vietnamese cuisine and it DID NOT disappoint. Four of us at home enjoyed the delicious and aromatic Pho and their Banh Mi sandwiches which were generous and beautifully prepared. The fresh spring rolls were excellent. Oh and as for my oxtail soup, OMG!!! The broth was amazing and the generous portion of oxtails and rice noodles was perfect. We will definitely be back, only next time I want to dine in as the place, though small, is warm and inviting. K... as mentioned prior, on more than one occasion, I'm typically not a one visit review kinda guy. But... exceptions can and are made on my behalf. First off, I was elated to see Saigon Oi pop up on my instagram feed. I was intrigued to say the least. My minimal experiences with Vietnamese food has been limited to Nam's Red Door, (Pedro) and a couple joints on Anaheim street in the LBC, all of which i patronized while still gainfully employed, (retired for 8 yrs now). I joyfully perused their extensive menu, consulted the wifey on choices and we made our selections. Interior of the place is very smallish but there are a few outdoor tables. First and foremost, I have never had Banh Mi. Always wanted to try but never did. Just a weird confession. So i ordered 2, (one grilled pork, one grilled beef), 2 orders of the Nuoc Mam wings, 2 orders of the fresh spring rolls and a large pho. Starting with the sandwiches, seriously one of the tastiest little boogers I've ever had. Uber fresh pickled veggies, jalapeno slices and assorted other greens on ridiculously tasty bread. Meats were tender, juicy, well seasoned and flat out yummy. The rolls are huge!!! like 6" long rolls. Fresh and served with my ever favorite peanut sauce. Absolutely delicious!!! A must. Wings are incredible and not the little "Domino's Pizza" sized effers. Just enough garlic and spice to tickle the taste buds but not overpower. Another must. Last and certainly not least, there is the soup. Just unbelievable, A tad on the spicy side but i love that. Phuong (sp???), is the owner with her hubs,. She suggested some marrow and other assorted goodies as "add ins" and her recommendations were spot on. And... she is just a lovely soul. What a sweet, sweet young lady. This review is a long time coming. Saigon Ơi Cafe is such a hidden gem. Great to finally have a Vietnamese pho restaurant in Pedro! The cafe is incredibly cute and cozy, it has a welcoming vibe that makes you want to sit, relax, and actually enjoy your meal instead of rushing out. The food is where they really shine. Everything tastes fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully made. The portions are just right and not overly heavy, but still satisfying. The nuoc mam wings are hands down one of my favs. They're crispy, well seasoned, and honestly a must try. The pho is another highlight, especially the broth. It's rich, clean, and full of depth without being greasy, which is hard to find. If it's your first time trying pho, you gotta eat it there. Their grilled meats are especially impressive, you can really taste that perfect char. The egg rolls are crispy and flavorful, and the vermicelli plates are fresh, balanced, and super satisfying. I'm not going to lie, the food here was good. Although the wings need more body and texture they were good. The Pho was delicious! It was nice and savory and they even asked if I wanted more condiments. Now, the music is modern and the vibes are immaculate. I feel like I need to be nice, cause I think they're trying. But...ok. I ordered two orders of filet mignon pho. The meat was tender. The broth, lacked in the intensity one comes to expect with a well developed broth. It was also... spicy? With too much back of the throat heat , pointing to an imbalance of flavors. The condiments were sparse. A lime, some sprouts , an average sprig of basil. A pack each of oyster and schiracha. The meat... also a bit sparse ... but tender! The young lady who packed my order was nice though. My hint of questionability was the odor in the shop. Not that familiar mmmmm, Pho! Scent,,, more of a pinch at the nose. No idea what is producing that ... smell. Personally , I probably won't return. Again , they were nice and that does count for something. I have ordered take out twice. The vermicelli bowl is really good and portion is generous. My husband loves the pork rice dish, he got it both times. The second time I got the beef rice dish ... but I think the pork is better as it's more tender. The chicken wings are THE BEST!! I got it twice and it never disappoints. The sauce is sweet and savory and it's perfect. It's my favorite. I also got the spring rolls, good but nothing special. Lastly, I tried their coco matcha and wasn't a fan. My friend enjoyed her beef pho sharing it was very flavorful and I loved my fresh and umami vermicelli egg roll bowl! My bowl came with vermicelli noodles, fresh and pickled veggies, mint, crispy egg rolls (option of pork or veggie), fried shallots, and fish sauce for the salty and tangy umami. Highly recommend adding some chili oil on top. Portion is quite large which was great as I am always happy to take home leftovers. I also enjoyed the sour plum soda! My first impression when I walked in was that the decor was beautiful and nostalgic. The lanterns strung up create warmth and the VHS is such a cool piece to take a look at. The food itself is great. We always split a banh mi and spring rolls; I recommend the beef banh mi and the grilled pork spring rolls. I appreciate them adding a dip on the side for a small charge, that way we can choose to make it a dip or not depending on the mood. I haven't tried the pho yet but if the authenticity of the other items is telling, I'm sure it'll be great. Now for the service: the employees are all welcoming and happy to answer questions about the menu. They were also kind enough to let us know that a cream top still had dairy when we requested a milk substitute. We already thought the service was great, so imagine our surprise when our server apologized for not checking on us more; what she did was MORE than adequate. This is our second time here although our first time we only got drinks because we ate beforehand. Although I wish he had ate here first! The food was delicious with so much flavor. I'm so glad I chose the Bun Vermicelli Noodle Bowl. It was perfect on a hot summer day and so refreshing. I loved that they had a kids menu with options to choose from. My daughter had the Pho with brisket which was also amazing and the perfect size! The Vietnamese iced coffee with the sea salt cold foam was perfection! I'm thankful the cashier/server asked me if I wanted to add. She was very kind and patient with me as I can be indecisive. They were playing the World Cup games which was cool to watch while eating. I love their decor with the lanterns, vhs, toys for the kids and overall homey vibes. This mom and pop place has such friendly and welcoming staff. It reminded me of my serving days with my restaurant family. I'm sad that I can't eat here more often as I live in sfv and I am only in the area for hair appointments. Awesome Vietnamese spot in DT San Pedro! Ordered takeout before hitting the road for a trip, and we were so glad that we stopped here. We ordered a few banh mi's, iced coffee, iced tea, and a couple orders of spring rolls. Banh mi's were FULL of delicious meat and fixings: we tried the beef, pork, and chicken. All were excellent on the best crispy soft bread. So so good and the pate was top notch. We also tried the spring rolls which were equally generous and so neatly put together and beautiful. The perfect thing to eat while driving! They were honestly the best spring rolls I've had in a long time; hefty size with big shrimps and full of flavor and didn't fall apart even though they were completely stuffed with fresh veggies. 5 stars all around! We didn't get to try the pho because we were trying to get on the road but the smell of the delicious broth permeated the building. I can't wait to go back and try their pho! It was pretty busy on Saturday afternoon but we were still able to find parking close by. I highly recommend Saigon Oi! They have cute merch too and plenty of seating outside. It's about time we are starting to have some diversity in San Pedro! The local dining scene is dominated by Italian and Mexican restaurants. They have opened the second Vietnamese restaurant and I am so ecstatic about the pho. Before it opened we would drive to Lomita or Long Beach to eat pho on a cold night and now it's 5 min away from home, not to mention way more legit. The owner is very welcoming, and the staff are constantly moving and hospitable towards their customers. The vibe here is a relaxed setting a very humble vintage vibe. I love the unique style here it makes me want to come back for more food. I love that there is a small section dedicated to kids with a few toys coloring books and movies! For the food, I really enjoyed the brisket pho. The broth was good, simple but a good meaty flavor. The meat wasn't the thin sliced frozen kind they throw on top of pho to cook with the broth like other restaurants we've been too, this was actual brisket with tons of flavor. Served with mung beans, lime, basil and chili sauces. I also had their coconut ice latte, not too sweet and deep coffee flavor. My favorite. I am so happy this restaurant opened in San Pedro! SP is definitely lacking in good Asian food, and there are no good Vietnamese restaurants in this area. The portions are "normal." I only say this because Americans are so used to these large portions of food, but what they serve is just enough. I ordered rice and meat dish... the grilled beef was cooked to absolute perfection. I also ordered a plate of eggrolls and it came with 6 pieces which is more than what most restaurants serve. The prices are on the higher end for Viet food, but still so delish. The interior of the restaurant reminds me of the French quarter in Hanoi. Very cute and cozy inside. The service was quick, friendly and I only hope that this new restaurant will last! We also shared a beef Bahn Mi sandwich, and a chicken Vermicelli Noodle Bowl. The portions were large and had great flavor. We finished with the oxtail Pho. Wow!! So delicious!! And so filling!! Small Vietnamese restaurant new in San Pedro with a nice outdoor area (better for larger groups) and cozy indoor seating. The staff are amazing, I was welcomed with smiles, they checked in on me and other guests often, and the owner even talked to me to see how things were. Wait time for my food was about 15 minutes, didn't mind that at all considering how great everything was. Food options feature a lot of the Vietnamese greats, and they're awesome. The serving size of the vermicelli bun noodle bowl and protein is generous, it's bright and light and the flavors meld really well. I added the fried egg roll and am glad I did, nice savory crunch with pork and veggies. It's a small kitchen however it's obvious the cooks take their time and prepare their food with care. The pandan pancake was crunchy and fluffy, the condensed milk added enough sweetness to hit my sweet tooth craving but not so much that I couldn't take a second bite. Vietnamese iced coffee was good, a bit sweet for my taste compared to others I've had, but still great. There are lots of small businesses around Saigon, record shops, thrift stores, and more. Parking can be a bit difficult to find considering all the stores, but you're sure to find one. Parking along 6th St is meter parking, $1.50 per hour, which is really cheap especially if you check out some of the stores. I plan to come back with friends to try more of Saigon's menu. read more
