Unpretentious restaurant in a strip mall, but once inside, decor is pleasant. Nothing overly fancy, but still nice, clean throughout. Food was above average, especially for the area which is not noted for ethnic diversity when it comes to dining. We enjoyed our meals, Singapore Noodles w/Shrimp and Beef Pho. Both were very well done. Pleasantly surprised by the quantity of shrimp provided in the Singapore noodle dish, and both shaved and beef chunks in the pho. Place a little off the beaten path perhaps, but worth a visit!

    No sugar added mango juice

Friendly and fast server who quickly got us seated and took our orders in this clean restaurant which is located in a strip mall but doesn't feel like one. I got the mango juice when I asked which drinks did not have added sugar, this is what she suggested. It was sooo delightfully refreshing and not cloyingly sweet. The lunch crowd came pouring in after us but she handled a full restaurant very well. Then the food arrived and we ate almost all of it before realizing that we had forgotten to take any photos. The hazards of being a foodie yelper. Here are the photos we did take though. The food was so yummy so we will be back. I had gotten Singapore noodles which had at least ten jumbo prawns and loads of vegetables. Hubby got beef pho that had chunks of beef along with veggies. Very yummy so very happy.

Has a lovely flavorful lunch here today! Friend suggested to meet up here and this is a nice cozy restaurant. Not tons of seating and it seems like they had quite a few people picking up to-go orders! The server was super attentive and friendly. She made sure we were well taken care of. For food we had the following: Dumplings-I thought they had great flavor and great sauce. Kao poa gow (basically Thai basil chicken) was also very flavorful. My friend enjoyed her Thai iced coffee as well as her pad Thai with tofu. She also had a boa bun and liked it.

We went on a Saturday evening (early) and were the only party seated, so I was a little concerned, however, there were doing a lot of takeout orders. Our server was very friendly and checked back on us regularly. Food came out extremely quickly. Note- if you order a soda, it comes out in a can, with a glass of ice. Not pictured were our entrees - pad Thai and soft shell crab. Ambiance is casual and the shopping center is unassuming. Extensive menu to choose from. We would recommend and return.

Food is delicious and the employees are nice. Shrimp fried rice is super good and their egg drop soup.

Service was amazing! They are very attentive and make sure that you don't have to ask for anything! The seating area has both music playing and a tv (no sound). There are several booth type tables for 4 - - that can possibly be joined for a larger crowd. The winner for me was that they sell both ramen and pho. The pho was very good. The noodles in the ramen as a bit slimy and more like oodle of noodle noodles (not the thicker noodles we are used to in ramen). The appetizers were really good also. Overall, I will return to try other dishes.

Thin Noodle Pad Thai with beef, nice flavor.

I visited there during a recent getaway. I wanted some good Asian food, so of course I checked Yelp. Akitchen was highly ranked and close by so I figured I'd check it out. That was a good choice! It's a small restaurant inside of a strip mall. There are a few tables there to eat-in, but I got takeout. I ordred the Money Bags and Thin RIce Noodle Pad Thai with beef. The Money Bags were great! They were filled with meat and highly spiced. The peanut flavor really stood out! For about $9, you get 3 (not bad in my opinion), nice sized and the presentation was very cute! The dipping sauce was a great addition. A little sweetness to balance the savory of the filling. I ate them too fast though. Second, I had the Pad Thai. I try Pad Thai at just about every restaurant that serves it so I did so here too. The flavor was pretty good, though I would have liked more sauce on the noodles. The amount of beef was about right, but a little more wouldn't have hurt. The bean sprouts were nice and crunchy, noodles cooked well and the lime rounded everything out. The lady that greeted customer had a big smile when people came to pick up their food. Nice to see that, especially as it's becoming more rare to see it. She was very personable and my order was waiting for me at the time it was scheduled to be ready. Overall, I enjoyed the restaurant and meal and would definitely go there again when I'm in the area.

I have been to Thailand 3 times and the food is amazing. Today eating at A Kitchen I felt like I was once again enjoying great Thai food without the long plane ride.

I came here with family and I really enjoyed all the options here! In this case asian fusion definitely means they have something of everything - from Chinese to Thai food. It was very good and nice and warm which is great for this chilly weather. We started with vegetarian spring rolls which were very tasty! I got the basil fried rice and my boyfriend got the super spicy ramen. We both liked our dishes a lot. This place had plenty of vegetarian options so I was pleasantly surprised and very happy we came here. I loved my dish - there were lots of fresh vegetables and I loved the fresh basil... but I had quite a few leftovers to take home. My only criticism is that it would be nice to have bigger take out containers!

My favorite RVA restaurant. The food is AMAZING! Always have great service. Literally no complaints. I loveeee it so much. The money bags are a family favorite. I always get the spicy ramen and it's a 10/10. The ambiance is better for a family outing or chill date. I wouldn't go here for a "fancier" outing but definitely all others.

I got these for the road: Dry-Fried Eggplant Crispy with a touch of savory spice plus cilantro, really good. Grandma Noodles Wavy noodles in a savory brown sauce with dried pepper and cilantro. Spicy but good spicy. Much better than the last time I had them, they hadn't congealed yet. When I mixed everything together it was great. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce Oh yeah. Even with just one spice pepper, this rocks. This is what I remember enjoying from years back. Tender shredded pork in a spicy sauce with garlic and multiple kinds of peppers. Would definitely go back if in the area. Parking was easy in the strip mall next to Walmart. Ordering online was easy and pickup was friendly and quick.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.

She was super friendly and helpful going over the menu for us since it was our first visit. I had a Thai Iced Tea which was delicious, but the straw I was given was too short for the glass they served it in. We ordered the crab Rangoon and bulgogi beef appetizers and thought they were delicious! For main courses, I ordered the Katsu Chicken Rice Bowl, my husband ordered the Pad Prik Pao and my husband's friend ordered the Crispy Chicken Fried Rice. We also ordered the Honey BBQ wings for the table. I thought the chicken in my bowl was really good, but the proportions of the bowl were interesting. It was essentially 5/6 rice and then 1/6 the chicken, seaweed salad, and other toppings (cabbage and tomatoes). It was such a deep bowl that I was left with copious amounts of rice at the end. The wings looked awesome but they were slathered in sauce and that was a little disappointing. Plus we could have used some wet wipes for them! The service was pretty slow which, again, Friday night.... But our server visited our table one time. Overall the food (for the most part) and atmosphere were great, but the service was just okay.

The Thai food here SLAPS! The dining area is fairly small, maybe about 10-12 tables, can see it filling up pretty quickly. Our server was super friendly and attentive (forgot her name) and was so nice to our noisy toddler haha. Food came out at pretty good pace and app, entrees and food didn't all come out at the same time which was nice. You HAVE to get their Thai sausage appetizer - If they made this an entree, I would get it every single time. The sausage is perfectly balanced with lean and fat and packed full of Thai flavor and spices. For my entree I got the Thai fried rice with chicken and this portion is HUGE, was able to take some home and easily serve it as another meal. The fried rice was so tasty and fried chicken was perfectly fried and came with a nice sweet and sour sauce too. My wife loved the pad se ew and got to take home her food as well. If this place was closer to us, it would be not good for our wallets. If you want delicious and authentic Thai food, look no further than Yak Yai!

The staff was probably my favorite part of the visit. Everyone was really nice and helpful, and they actually took the time to help me decide what to order. I went with medium heat, but if you actually like spicy food, you can definitely go hotter. The medium wasn't very spicy to me at all. The sauce they served on the side was really good, though. The portions are HUGE, which makes the prices feel very reasonable. You could easily share one entrée with another person, and I thought it was a nice touch that they give you little plates specifically for sharing. The restaurant itself is small, but really cute. The decor is definitely doing what it's supposed to do. I loved the look and overall vibe, although the tables are pretty close together and the chairs aren't exactly the most comfortable. It's more of a cute, casual spot than somewhere I'd sit for hours. Parking is the usual Shockoe Bottom/downtown situation... so, you know, good luck on parking at certain times. Overall, I thought the food was good and the portions were great, but the staff and the decor were definitely the highlights of my visit.
