I've been wanting to try these rice balls for a while, and they did not disappoint! I came on the weekend and it was surprisingly empty. The inside is cute with colorful cozy vibes and plenty of seating, including comfy couch-like seats along the walls. We ordered the chicken avocado rice ball and the beef teriyaki rice ball. The chicken avocado was delicious, a great sweet-savory balance with the avocado. The beef teriyaki was equally satisfying. My only suggestion would be to add a bit more protein to each, as both felt slightly light in that department. Overall though, both were really good and a solid size to keep you full for a while. Tbh, I was really excited when I ordered from DoorDash because everything looked great in the photos. I genuinely wanted to like the meal, but the overall execution missed the mark for me. 1. Rice - The texture was too soft. It felt like a modern twist on traditional Taiwanese sticky rice, but unfortunately it didn't hold together well or deliver the expected mouthfeel. 2. Mango sago drink - The coconut and mango flavors didn't blend smoothly, and there was an unexpected cheese-like note that threw off the flavor profile. 3. Tomato braised beef - The acidity was overpowering, making the dish taste too sour instead of rich and balanced. Overall, the meal felt a bit off in terms of flavor balance. Walked by and saw the poster of the rice rolls and was determined to get one. I ordered the teriyaki beef rice roll (fan tuan). The food was freshly made and service was quick. The rice roll was full of flavor and inside was teriyaki beef, sliced cucumbers, pork floss in a nice savory sauce all wrapped by purple rice. The rice roll is about 4-6 inch in length so the portion would seem small for the price. They offered a $5 upgrade for a onigiri combo with a iced black tea. I originally went to get Taiwanese food right next door but for some reason the doors were locked. Saw this right next door and decided to give this spot a try. I must say the eel rice roll was pretty good. Not sure what was inside but the sauce was good, the flavoring was good but the problem was how easy it fell apart. It's like every bite I took, the whole thing was ready to fall right out. The pork chop roll for $9 was literally like 3 small pieces of meat in there. The corn and lettuce overpowered the pork chop which is not ideal. We weren't full off this, this is more like a snack. Or maybe I just eat a lot LOL Service was quick. 8/31/2025 - This is the first store opened in the U.S. while the chain store has more than 1,000 stores in China and Taiwan. Ita specialty is fruit tea and rice roll. I ordered a Lemon Yashi Oolong that is very good, or fresh with just right sweetness, and you can see some fresh lemon pulp. The Mango coconut sago 芒果椰汁西米露 is also very good with fresh MANGO. I truly enjoyed both drink, especially Mango coconut sago. The Rice Roll is outstanding with fresh ingredients. Fun, colorful packaging and presentation, a lowly 'fantuan' rice ball/onigiri in fancy clothes. It's all good until I tried to dig in (your experience may vary). My 'pork chop' rice ball fell apart as soon as it was cut open or bit into - very messy! I am sorry the form factor looks good but just doesn't work in practice. You will need a spoon and/or chopsticks. There's a lot of corn inside and not a lot of pork. The rice ball shell was very hard as to be inedible. I just ate a few bites and toss the rest of the $11 rice ball. SUGGESTION- for the price, make 2 small bite-size riceballs instead 1 giant one. Came by for a to-go order because I always saw one of the owners of a hobby shop nearby constantly plugging this place in their insta stories, and this did not disappoint! I got the New Orlean Chicken rice roll with original salad sauce (pictured, already half eaten), and partner got their Avocado Chicken Fillet rice roll with original salad sauce as well. Fairly new fantuan spot in San Gabriel. As someone who loves traditional fantuan, I was pretty skeptical about the idea of modifying a classic recipe, but to be honest they kinda nailed it. The base is just a little different, but still gets that same taste profile. It's usually made up of rice, cucumbers, pork floss, mushrooms, etc, and they build on it with your choice of meat/seafood. They kept that sweet, savory, umami flavor while adding some extra crunch in the texture. I've tried a few flavors so far, with Roasted Sausage and Teriyaki Beef being my favorites. I common complaint I'm seeing is that the portions are small which seems fair at first, but they ignore that they're pretty dense and heavy too which ends up evening out and filling me up regardless. I've also seen complaints about them falling apart when cut in half which is also true, but they're also not wrapped in plastic like a normal fantuan (which I appreciate since I hate microplastics). So just eat them whole and you'll be fine. The wait time is always short. No line (which is unfortunate) and my food usually ready in under five minutes. The interior is bright, spacious, and well designed. Only downside is parking in the plaza can be tough, but street parking is a good second option. Overall, great quick-stop choice, especially during the workday. I really hope people give this place a try especially fantuan fans. Can't wait to come back and try more flavors. read more

Food - 4/5 - If you love rice-rolls and onigiri, this is a place for you. The rolls are a decent size, a bit bigger than expected but not huge. The onigiri is regular size, as to be expected, in my opinion. The taste of the food is really good. They have a good amount of filling to rice ratio and I appreciate that you get gloves to hold the items to eat so it's not too messy. There's a good amount of variety for everyone to get something they like. I think this is a good lunch, snack or quick meal. The teas are pretty good and the other drinks are a good variety too. Price - $$$ - My reason for this price rating is because I do think the price point is pretty high for what it is. I believe that while they give a good amount of filling and a good variety of filling, it's still quite pricy for a rice roll, even at that size and with that amount of filling. A Fan-tuan has to be HUGE in order to justify about $12.99-14.99 for one. The filling inside isn't exactly spectacular enough to justify a higher pricing either. While the fillings are special, it should still be within reason. The drink prices are a bit high too, especially the drink to cup-size ratio. Service - 4/5 - The servers are really kind and attentive. They do a great job at customer service. Ambiance - 5/5 - The shop has a really cute cafe-esque vibe and it is very enjoyable. Location - 3/5 - The location is ok, there's parking but depending on time of day and what day you go, it may or may not be crowded. The plaza is not the biggest. Their price point is a tad higher compared to other Taiwanese rice roll/ rice ball breakfast places such as "big tree" or Yi-Mei but with more variety and better decor if you want your food more "insta" friendly. We ordered the basic rice roll to try. It was not bad but unspectacular. I did not like the raw lettuce which had a mayo (or mayo-like) sauce with hot/warm rice. Next time, I would probably try the other more "exotic" toppings and SKIP the lettuce. I am familiar with breakfast type fan tuan, and was interested in what I saw here. Well these things knock it out the park. The chicken cheese has hit both times, the blend of vegetables and sauce, and I wince at the sight of seaweed, but it all tastes so damn good. I also tried the bacon one, just ok, and the teriyaki beef, the meat was dry. By design, not much service, so it's like, do you tip the gas station attendant, do you tip the supermarket checkout? Used to open at 8:00am everyday which was great for those wanting to grab breakfast but now they open at 11am on weekends. On weekends, they did not open on time. At 11:10am, their lights were still off and employees were seen barely arriving. So they literally come into work when it's 11am?? If that's the case, they need to change their hours to a later time as to not waste customers time. Inside is small but very clean and cute! The fan tuans were actually quite small. I've tried a couple of different flavors already and they were pretty good. The size doesn't really match the price though. The drinks, on the other hand, were absolutely disgusting. I've gotten a lemon drink and a hawthorn drink. The hawthorn drink tasted exactly like fizzy medicine. The lemon drink wasn't as bad but it was still not worth finishing.
