It was my first time trying this! I got the Kabayaki eel rice roll which was really good! It was a cute little venue. Service was amazing and they were super nice. They are passionate with what they do. If you're looking for some authentic rice rolls, you should check this place out!

A comparison of how small the drinks are. Not what picture show in uber delivery.

I ordered from uber eat. The drinks looks bigger than what I m getting n not to mention the ingredients in the drink. There is nothing as picture. False advertising

I've been wanting to try yi mei but not willing to drive out there, so I was happily surprised to learn about this place. The interior is cute with lots of floral decorations and comfortable seating. I was particularly intrigued by the eel roll, so I ordered that. My partner decided to order the spicy crawfish and added beef to it. I also ordered the ice lemon tea, but my partner didn't add a drink since...that was the only drink option they seemed to have today. Otherwise, our food was made quickly, and portions are very generous; the rolls seem small when we pulled them out of a bag, but they are fully stuffed with our selected protein. I'm eyeing the squid roll for next time.

I have mixed review on this place, for the first time, I got its most popular roll with egg, it was so good. Second time, I got eel roll and beef roll as the sushi man recommended me, they were the popular item on the menu. This time, I was so disappointed, cuz both rolls were very dry, and very little/small beef and eel. Mostly it was rice, so I am not gonna get those again.

Walked by and saw the poster of the rice rolls and was determined to get one. I ordered the teriyaki beef rice roll (fan tuan). The food was freshly made and service was quick. The rice roll was full of flavor and inside was teriyaki beef, sliced cucumbers, pork floss in a nice savory sauce all wrapped by purple rice. The rice roll is about 4-6 inch in length so the portion would seem small for the price. They offered a $5 upgrade for a onigiri combo with a iced black tea. I would go back to try their breakfast rice rolls that is available from 8am-12pm.

I originally went to get Taiwanese food right next door but for some reason the doors were locked. Saw this right next door and decided to give this spot a try. I must say the eel rice roll was pretty good. Not sure what was inside but the sauce was good, the flavoring was good but the problem was how easy it fell apart. It's like every bite I took, the whole thing was ready to fall right out. The pork chop roll for $9 was literally like 3 small pieces of meat in there. The corn and lettuce overpowered the pork chop which is not ideal. We weren't full off this, this is more like a snack. Or maybe I just eat a lot LOL Service was quick. Nobody else was there at the time we went on a weekday. Parking is available but shared w a lot of other food establishments so it can get pretty busy.

[Oct 3, 2025 5:45PM] Love the interior design! It's so cute and thoughtfully designed. Customized packaging deserve its honorable mention. Fitted well with the theme it's going for. We ordered 3 rice rolls, and all were made within 10-15 minutes. It was fresh and hot when I got it. Rice roll is about the 4-5 inch in length. Shorter than expected, but packed with flavors. One roll can easily fill you up.

8/31/2025 - This is the first store opened in the U.S. while the chain store has more than 1,000 stores in China and Taiwan. Ita specialty is fruit tea and rice roll. I ordered a Lemon Yashi Oolong that is very good, or fresh with just right sweetness, and you can see some fresh lemon pulp. The Mango coconut sago 芒果椰汁西米露 is also very good with fresh MANGO. I truly enjoyed both drink, especially Mango coconut sago. The Rice Roll is outstanding with fresh ingredients. A free WiFi is available in store as well as parking, but the weekend parking is challenging!

The packaging is beautiful, the food is delicious, but the price is a bit high and the portion is a little small.

Fun, colorful packaging and presentation, a lowly 'fantuan' rice ball/onigiri in fancy clothes. It's all good until I tried to dig in (your experience may vary). My 'pork chop' rice ball fell apart as soon as it was cut open or bit into - very messy! I am sorry the form factor looks good but just doesn't work in practice. You will need a spoon and/or chopsticks. There's a lot of corn inside and not a lot of pork. The rice ball shell was very hard as to be inedible. I just ate a few bites and toss the rest of the $11 rice ball. SUGGESTION- for the price, make 2 small bite-size riceballs instead 1 giant one. My favorite Taiwanese rice ball is from J J Bakery in Temple City. Small, easy to eat, savory, packed with ingredients (chinese donut, pork sun, sausage, egg) and only $7.

The interior is super cute. Seems like a great place to go with friends. We used a kiosk to order, and our order was ready a few minutes later. At first, I thought they were a bit pricy, but these portions were actually quite big. I tried the black pepper chicken roll, and it tasted great!

First time trying a new restaurant ~ Ah Kung Rice Ball Avocado Caviar shrimp paste purple rice roll+ lemon yashi oolong tea I think it's good, there are many flavors I want to try,, today can only pick one flavor to try This lemon tea is my favorite flavor , I haven't had it for a long time, it's great Since the clerk asked me how it tasted, I just said the rice roll were not hot enough, the waiter immediately took the initiative to send me another flavor of rice roll to take away, I said no, but he insisted. Very nice. Well, tomorrow breakfast / lunch is down This restaurant has been open for almost a year, and I just discovered now that I will have the opportunity to try their breakfast limited next time

Fairly new fantuan spot in San Gabriel. As someone who loves traditional fantuan, I was pretty skeptical about the idea of modifying a classic recipe, but to be honest they kinda nailed it. The base is just a little different, but still gets that same taste profile. It's usually made up of rice, cucumbers, pork floss, mushrooms, etc, and they build on it with your choice of meat/seafood. They kept that sweet, savory, umami flavor while adding some extra crunch in the texture. I've tried a few flavors so far, with Roasted Sausage and Teriyaki Beef being my favorites. I common complaint I'm seeing is that the portions are small which seems fair at first, but they ignore that they're pretty dense and heavy too which ends up evening out and filling me up regardless. I've also seen complaints about them falling apart when cut in half which is also true, but they're also not wrapped in plastic like a normal fantuan (which I appreciate since I hate microplastics). So just eat them whole and you'll be fine. The wait time is always short. No line (which is unfortunate) and my food usually ready in under five minutes. The interior is bright, spacious, and well designed. Only downside is parking in the plaza can be tough, but street parking is a good second option. Overall, great quick-stop choice, especially during the workday. I really hope people give this place a try especially fantuan fans. Can't wait to come back and try more flavors.

They opened and closed the door for us which was a nice touch because it was busy inside. We ordered the pork ramen, pork buns, and pork soup dumplings. On to the food! Pork Ramen: 3/5 They give you a hefty amount of noodles and pork. They use a thin noodle here which pairs well with the broth. I truly do believe this was around average for ramen as the flavor in the broth was not as strong or savory. The highlight of the entire entree was definitely the pork, which was tender and flavorful. I probably would not order this again. Pork bun: 5/5 The pork buns were soft and fluffy, almost too good looking to eat. There was the right amount of soup and meat inside that made for a wonderful bite full of flavor. Not dry at all. Would recommend ordering this if you visit. Pork Dumplings: 5/5 The star of the show, the dumplings. They were soft and just like the buns, they had the right amount of soup + meat which made for a delicious bite every time. My toddler even ate some and she's usually super picky about meat. Overall, I'd definitely recommend coming here for the other noodles, the dumplings, and buns. You can skip on the ramen. I would 100% come back here to dine in. Quick note that parking gets full pretty quick here.

It comes with popcorn chicken, fish cakes, oyster mushrooms, squid balls, and sweet potato fries. Everything is seasoned with the perfect amount of five spice, and it's great for sharing. I usually come with my family, and we always order way too much because who doesn't love leftovers? Some of our other favorites are the stewed stinky tofu with intestines, rice cakes, the chicken plate, and the cold cut salads. Honestly, you can't really go wrong with anything here. Soup and tendon can be a bit salty on its own but when you add the soup with the noodles, the noodles soak up the flavor very well and the soup mellows out. Still on the heavier side of flavor for me but I can tell it's a very good, flavorful soup. Tendon was very soft. My husband ordered D1 and the regular beef was soft and had a good, evenly distributed flavor throughout the meat. Husband said he did not find the noodle soup salty and he's also on the lighter side of flavor profile like me. Beef roll: ordered this since the pics on yelp showed them rolled very evenly with filling. A little expensive, it could be a meal price, but the amount could also be a meal. Beef roll came looking exactly like what I saw in pics; good amount of filling and rolled evenly. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be crispy on the outside since I ordered take out but it could be crispier. I'll prob air fry later for a later meal. Crispness was the only con, the beef roll was very good! The beef isn't dry and tough, good amount of sauce for flavor. Would definitely recommend. Unfortunately for me, fan tuan is a breakfast item, meaning that most of the places that would have it close by 4pm. And so, I decided to go before work! Apparently Yi Mei has caught wind that fan tuan has experienced a surge of popularity, because taped on the front counter is a paper guide on how to order fan tuan. The fan tuan, by default, will come with youtiao, pork floss, and mustard greens. You choose the type of rice, salty or sweet, the crispiness of the youtiao, and additional fillings. I went with salty, purple rice, an extra crispy youtiao, and added Taiwanese sausage. I also got soy milk and turnip cake. Dine in is available. The vibe inside is casual. Although it was a weekday morning, there were quite a fair amount of people eating here. But, we opted for take out. We couldn't wait to try the fan tuan, so we started eating right in front of the restaurant hahaha... The fan tuan is rolled into a tight cylindrical shape, held together by a casing of saran wrap, making it easy to eat with your hands. Peeling back the plastic revealed the glistening grains of purple rice. The texture was amazing. I sunk my teeth into the densely compacted rice layer. Soft, then immediately crunchy! The extra crispy youtiao shatters apart in your mouth, bursting with the flavor of oily, deep-fried bread and complemented by the sweet and savory pork floss. Then, the richness is cut by the crunchy pickled mustard greens. Indulgence. Satiety. Harmony. Balance. The perfect food. And then, add a little garlic sauce. Add a little chili oil. Reality crumbles around you as you realize this perfect dish was nowhere near its peak! The intense garlic flavor seeps into your bloodstream and the answers to the universe flash before your eyes. Chili oil dances on your tongue. Fire. Umami. Your senses awaken. So this is the height of cooking! The 4 noble truths and 8 fold paths open themselves to you. Power surges through your veins! You have achieved enlightenment! FAN TUAN... BEAMMMMMMM!!!! And just like that, the fan tuan in your hands has disappeared. If I were to get this again, I would probably want to add more mustard greens as I did not think there is enough in the default order. It's also worth checking out their other items, as I thoroughly enjoyed the turnip cake. It tasted very fresh, was steaming hot, and so gooey! Needless to say, I will be paying Yi Mei another visit very soon.

Every Taiwanese person in LA and the West Coast probably had a 2 degree of separation with everyone else. This is a school of cooking that many chefs from Mainland China simply cannot replicate today. That being said, I've always wanted to go back to Taiwan and apprentice under an old school chef and learn this school of stir-fry, you know, carry on the torch. Big portion for like $10. The Taiwanese seasoning mix brought me right back to the night markets to Taiwan. It's truly the 5 spice powder that hits the spot. The batter wasn't thick, so the chicken didn't taste very battery/ cakey. That's what I hate about some places that make popcorn chicken. It also wasn't too spicy for me. It was just right. I ordered the minced bowl, which is actually a plate. For like $12, it was actually pretty good and the portions was huge. The boiled / blanched cabbage and broccoli were soft, sweet, and tasty. I could taste the sesame oil on it. It wasn't salty. The sweet corn and diced juicy tomatoes combo was good too. The boiled tea egg was pretty delicious. You can actually taste the tea and soy sauce. The egg was nice and soft. And now, for the braised minced pork. The pork was very delicious and it just melted in my mouth. I love that there were some fatty pieces of pork too in the dish. It balanced out some of the pieces of pork, which had too much meat in it. Definitely a very savory and rich dish. There used to be several locations across Southern California, and I'm glad the Arcadia location is still here. Every visit brings back memories. I come for the Taiwanese classics that are becoming harder to find. The popcorn chicken is still one of my favorites--crispy, fragrant, and seasoned the way Taiwanese street vendors do it. The Taiwanese meatball soup is comforting, and the Taiwanese sausage always reminds me of night markets back home. What I appreciate most is that SinBala doesn't just serve street food. It brings those familiar flavors into a warm, home-style setting. It's nostalgic without trying too hard. Before you leave, save room for dessert. Their shaved ice is a must. I always recommend the brown sugar shaved ice topped with five mochi or boba. It's refreshing, not overly sweet, and the perfect ending to a meal. Taiwanese food is often overshadowed by other regional Chinese cuisines, but places like SinBala remind me how unique it really is. Simple, comforting, and full of character. I'm grateful this little piece of Taiwan is still here.

A bit sweeter than my preference but maybe cuz I put condensed milk on it as one of the toppings. The grass jelly shaped firm and nice cubes so possible it's from a can as opposed to in house. Sausage I had as well not the best I've had but traditional flavor and served with lots of garlic on the side (wahoo!)
