This is currently my favorite bowl of beef noodle soup within the US. I totally understand the lower ratings other yelpers have given this restaurant as I also feel $20 is steep for a bowl of noodles, though my justification is if people are willing to spend $8-10 on a matcha/boba tea then I'm okay with occasionally spending $20 on an excellent bowl of noodles. I have been to numerous other spots in the SGV, all of which have been hyped as being the best but I have noticed all the other spots have broths that lean too sweet or are too mild, much less flavor than the broth at Dai Ho. I expect a very rich broth for beef noodle soups and this one does the job for me. There's a bit of spice but I would say mild spice eaters would be able to handle this based off of some friends' experiences. My boyfriend actually said he wished the broth was even spicier. The meat is very tender and has a great balance of pieces that are slightly fatty but not overbearingly so. From the meat alone, they already beat out many other restaurants that have cuts that are incredibly dry and far too lean. Noodles are perfectly chewy and there's a good amount of veggies and green onions. The restaurant is located in Temple City and is medium sized though I would say it's difficult for a larger group to sit together. Unfortunately, they are only open for lunch time and I was running late once so had to order takeout which was still very good, and everything was packed securely so no leaks! My order was still piping hot after a 20 min drive home. Try to come a bit early as the line can start to get long and the parking lot is teeny tiny with probably 10 spots or less, but there are some spots along the street if needed. BRING CASH or be prepared to pay with Zelle. Overall: Very excellent beef noodles. Will continue coming back for this dish alone. read more

Before making our way here, you could say I was more than a little stoked to check out Dai Ho. For starters, they had been sitting on my list of bookmarks for the longest time, but, more significantly, more than a few of my Yelp friends mentioned how this has long been their go-to spot for beef noodle soup (niu rou mian). Pretty heady praise, to be sure, but, to be honest, just the hope of a tasty bowl is more than enough to get us excited to head anywhere! Almost as soon as we arrived, everything about Dai Ho felt like it was right up my alley. The restaurant has its own parking lot (albeit a small one), it has an old school, mom-and-pop type of vibe inside, and, most importantly, the photos of their food on Yelp looked terrific. While the menu may seem a little narrow at a glance, as there are only eight dishes to choose from, they also have a display case chock full of sides you can add to your meal, like Pickled Cabbage with Carrots, Soy Sauce Eggs, Sticky Rice with Pork and Shrimp, Pork Feet, and so much more. -- (#4) MINCED MEAT DRY NOODLE...$16 This looked great when it came out, but it was a little hit or miss. On the plus side, the noodles were good and came with a fair amount of meat. On the other, the sauce had a slightly sweet aftertaste that I didn't love and didn't have as much spice to it as I thought it would. -- (#5) BEEF STEW NOODLE SOUP...$20 Not as good as our favorite in Irvine, but not too shabby either. The chunks of beef were meaty and tender and I liked that the noodles had a slight bite to them. The broth had a nice body to it as well, but my gf thought it was a little salty (I thought it was fine). Based purely on taste, it seems evident that Dai Ho is a pretty decent spot. The Minced Meat Dry Noodle may have underwhelmed, but their Beef Noodle Soup was solid and some of their other dishes and sides look pretty enticing. However, as so many others have already noted, both dishes did feel a little light for the money, especially when you consider how there seem to be cheaper options around that may (or may not) be just as good. While I would probably look to try some of the other spots on my list of bookmarks before returning, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to it the next time we're in town so that we can try our luck again with their other dishes and to get the Beef Noodle Soup, even if it is a bit of a splurge. Been wanting to go to this iconic noodle spot for a long time. Their hours of 11:30-2:30pm daily provide only a small window to dine here and I'm also assuming it gets busy here on the weekends. So unless you're close buy during the week it may take a bit of planning. The place has the vibe /feel of a mom and pop type place that's been around for quite a while. The offerings are pretty streamlined here with some items available to go, but I went with the classic and order the beef noodle soup. The noodles were chewy and the soup was flavorful and delicious. Because I came in during the weekday, I was able to come and get seated and get my food really quickly. My experience was very easy and satisfying. I've been coming to Dai Ho for years, and there's no denying that their beef noodle soup is delicious. The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles have a great texture, and it's easy to see why they've built such a loyal following. My biggest issue is the price. When I first started coming here, a bowl was around $12, which already felt a little expensive compared to other noodle shops. Over the years, the price has continued to climb, and now it's about $20 for a bowl of beef noodle soup. While the quality is still good, I personally don't feel the value matches the current price point. There's a parking lot behind the shop. Restaurant has fair number of tables close together, but not good for large groups. They're known for their Beef Noodle Soup, $20. Purely based on taste, it's probably the best beef noodle soup outside of taiwan. Beef is super tender and flavorful. Broth is perfectly seasoned and savory. But $20 for a bowl? A little ridiculously steep imo. Also how is a side of tripe $16? It's a couple spoonfuls worth. Pretty bummed by the weird hours, steep prices, and cash only. Paid with zelle. I've heard great things about this spot serving authentic Taiwanese beef noodles in Temple City, but it's extremely difficult to find time in our schedules, as they're only open 6 days a week, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash or Zelle. We ordered two dishes to share - the #1 Sesame Sauce Dry Noodles ($15.00) and the #5 Beef Stew Soup Noodles ($19.00). Both were excellent! From a value perspective, the Beef Stew Soup Noodles offered more for your money with a generous portion of beef, soup, and noodles, while the Sesame Sauce Dry Noodles felt a bit pricey for the portion size. We recently tried a similar dish at another well-known Taiwanese restaurant in DTLA, but we preferred Dai Ho's creamy sesame flavor. The Beef Stew Soup Noodles were cooked perfectly - the noodles were bouncy, and the broth was fragrant, spicy, and not overly oily. My wife, who is Chinese and lived in Taiwan, says they're authentic, but not as good as the ones in Taiwan, but better than anything we've had here. I'll note that most (all?) parties walk in through their back door where the parking lot is, and I believe this restaurant is also cash only. With only ~8 official items on the menu, deciding what to order shouldn't be difficult. I was here for the Beef Stew Soup Noodles, which I believe is what they are most famous for. Priced at $19, this definitely isn't the cheapest beef noodle soup in the area, but it's probably the highest quality. I found the flavor of the broth to be phenomenal, and the noodles were perfect in soaking it all up. The beef admittedly wasn't my favorite style, but the leaner pieces were extremely delicious and tender. I was watching and episode of Hot Ones where Ali Wong was the guest, and she called out Dai Ho as the place to go for noodles. So I noted it down, and we tried it when we visited Los Angeles. It's a very basic space, and a very simple menu with only 8 items. Actually, only 7 because they sold out of the minced meat dry noodles. We ended up trying the beef stew soup noodles and sesame dry noodles. The beef noodle lives up to it's reputation - it's good. Beef is incredibly tender, soup was well balanced, and noodles were a good texture. The sesame noodles were OK - maybe a little disappointed because they were a suitable replacement of the mince meat noodle I really wanted. Service was pretty minimal. Not particularly friendly. I'm glad I got to try the beef noodle soup - it is good. Any place that survives on 8 menu items must be doing something right. Stumbled upon this spot while browsing through Yelp for some food. This restaurant has very limited seating and parking. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. Keep in mind that this restaurant serves only noodles, which they supposedly specialize in. The 2 recommended dishes from other diners/Yelp are the Sesame Sauce Dry Noodles and Beef Stew Soup Noodles. The favorite out of the 2 noodles dishes was certainly the Beef Stew Soup Noodles, which had great tender cuts of beef. However, the noodles were slightly overcooked and the broth was a bit heavy on the soy sauce. As for, the sesame noodles, there was not anything enjoyable about it. The sesame was just very overpowering in its sweetness, and also lacked any kind of firmness. A spot for some beef, but not for their noodles or broth. This spot can certainly become a really great spot by improving on the firmness of noodles alone. There are certainly other better noodle spots in the SGV area. read more

The noodles had the texture of al dente spaghetti rather than authentic Taiwanese beef noodles, and the broth was overly salty and overwhelmed by star anise, with spice residue and "flower" sediment sitting at the bottom of the bowl. Honestly one of the worst bowls of Taiwanese beef noodles we've had in the San Gabriel Valley. We drove an hour because of all the hype and left extremely disappointed. The small side dish costing $15 was also ridiculous for the portion and quality. My friends wouldn't stop recommending Dai Ho to me since I'm always on the hunt for some good Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Because of their lunch-only hours, it was hard for me to find a time to come by to try it out. When I saw that they were featured as a Michelin-recognized Taiwanese restaurant, I made time to stop by. It was my and my partner's first meal as a married couple! I heard that there would be a wait before opening, so we arrive at around 11:20am. They have a small parking lot in the back, and there were still a few spots open when we arrive, but there were a couple other cars already there. There wasn't anyone waiting outside, but since it was a Friday there was probably less people waiting around. When we got out of the car around 11:25 though there was a group already waiting out front, but that was the only group. We walked to the front door facing the main street, but when the lady unlocked the door for us she advised that they actually keep that front door locked and have everyone come in through the back door where the parking lot is. We sat down at a table, and the server came to our table to take our orders. Once we were finished with our meal, we went to the front counter to pay. It's cash only here! We both ordered the Beef Noodle Soup ($18), and it took about 20 minutes for both bowls to come out. They have some veggies and side dishes out on display at the front, but we didn't get any this time. I probably will next time though. It was definitely the best beef noodle soup I've had in the US so far. There's plenty of beef pieces, and the broth was so flavorful with a little bit of spice for a small kick, but not too much. There's also a handful of spinach to give a bit of a refreshment from the heaviness of the broth. They also give you a lot of it, and I had enough left over for a second meal. The bowls come out piping hot and it was tough eating it because I wanted to take bigger slurps but I didn't want to burn my tongue either. All my Taiwanese friends, and then myself, approve of the beef noodle soup here.
