From a value perspective, the Beef Stew Soup Noodles offered more for your money with a generous portion of beef, soup, and noodles, while the Sesame Sauce Dry Noodles felt a bit pricey for the portion size. We recently tried a similar dish at another well-known Taiwanese restaurant in DTLA, but we preferred Dai Ho's creamy sesame flavor. Dai Ho had been in my bookmarks forever, but being that this place is only open 3 hours a day (11:30am - 2:30pm), 6 days per week, it's definitely a meal you need to plan your day around, especially if you don't live in the area. So, that's what I decided to do this past Saturday. As I didn't know what to expect in terms of a line/wait time, I ended up getting here about 20 minutes before opening. I believe I was the first one there, and while a few additional parties came prior to opening, I wouldn't say it's very necessary. There were quite a few open tables throughout my meal, even as I was getting ready to leave at about 12:15pm. I'll note that most (all?) parties walk in through their back door where the parking lot is, and I believe this restaurant is also cash only. With only ~8 official items on the menu, deciding what to order shouldn't be difficult. I was here for the Beef Stew Soup Noodles, which I believe is what they are most famous for. Priced at $19, this definitely isn't the cheapest beef noodle soup in the area, but it's probably the highest quality. I found the flavor of the broth to be phenomenal, and the noodles were perfect in soaking it all up. The beef admittedly wasn't my favorite style, but the leaner pieces were extremely delicious and tender. My friends wouldn't stop recommending Dai Ho to me since I'm always on the hunt for some good Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Because of their lunch-only hours, it was hard for me to find a time to come by to try it out. I heard that there would be a wait before opening, so we arrive at around 11:20am. They have a small parking lot in the back, and there were still a few spots open when we arrive, but there were a couple other cars already there. There wasn't anyone waiting outside, but since it was a Friday there was probably less people waiting around. When we got out of the car around 11:25 though there was a group already waiting out front, but that was the only group. We walked to the front door facing the main street, but when the lady unlocked the door for us she advised that they actually keep that front door locked and have everyone come in through the back door where the parking lot is. We sat down at a table, and the server came to our table to take our orders. Once we were finished with our meal, we went to the front counter to pay. It's cash only here! We both ordered the Beef Noodle Soup ($18), and it took about 20 minutes for both bowls to come out. They have some veggies and side dishes out on display at the front, but we didn't get any this time. I probably will next time though. It was definitely the best beef noodle soup I've had in the US so far. There's plenty of beef pieces, and the broth was so flavorful with a little bit of spice for a small kick, but not too much. There's also a handful of spinach to give a bit of a refreshment from the heaviness of the broth. They also give you a lot of it, and I had enough left over for a second meal. The bowls come out piping hot and it was tough eating it because I wanted to take bigger slurps but I didn't want to burn my tongue either. All my Taiwanese friends, and then myself, approve of the beef noodle soup here. Signature Beef stew noodles: A staple of the restaurant, the beef was tender and juicy when you bite into it. The soup base is authentic, I didn't taste any msg put into it. The portion size wasn't too big that it would make you feel sleepy after eating either, good for a workday lunch. My only gripe with it would be the pricing as $19 for a bowl that size is slightly too high for me. It would be my occasional place to have, but not every month so to say. One thing I should've paid attention to was that this place doesn't accept credit cards; cash, venmo and/zelle mainly. The atmosphere is pretty lax, maybe on a weekend, but it took around 20 mins or so for our noodles to come out. This place open only 3 hours a day, from 1130AM to 230PM, and closed on mondays.
