One of the best pizzas for sure ! Margarita, pizza

I will definitely make it a point to stop by here and eat there Margarita Pizza once more ! It's one of the greatest handmade pizza I have had the privilege of eating . The oven is always being loaded with them and the cooks are so kind and professional at what they do.

My husband and I had been meaning to visit this A16 location for the longest time after its stellar reputation and having visited its location in the Ferry Building. Unfortunately, we were a little less than thrilled with the whole experience. But first things first... Anticipating a busy evening, I made a reservation well in advance, but since they were running late, the table wasn't ready when we arrived. Okay, that's fine. We were able to wait at the bar and order drinks, but then the wait got longer and longer as the restaurant continued to get busier and more crowded in the entry area and outside. The server was friendly enough, but perhaps was waiting on many tables since we sometimes found it challenging to get his attention. The food itself was good: we shared the polpo to start (very tasty and the octopus was maybe my fave part of the meal), arrabbiata pizza and orecchiete pasta for mains, and the budino tart for dessert after seeing its popularity at other tables. However, the pizza was very soft in the middle, and not in an ideal way since it seemed almost undercooked. Overall, the experience was fine, but balancing the food with the logistics - and the small detail that they left the back door open, making it quite cold at times - it feels like there are other Italian restaurants that we'd prefer in general.

Testing out this Italian White Wine for dinner hee

This was my first time at this particular restaurant and goodness did it leave an amazing impression on my pallet! Our server was incredibly insightful, but I forgot his name, a nice college aged gentleman from Santa Rosa area and he knew about Italian food as well and wine pairings- their wine list is like a dictionary! Seriously every TYPE of Italian wine that could be possible was in their catalog! Hee. Their "Local Salmon" was the BEST I've had! The skin was perfectly crispy and then the salmon, its self was so soft and the flavors were so unique! Mary's Half chicken had to be perfection! The skin was perfectly crispy and then the chicken was moist and the pesto sauce it was cooked in had a great smooth flavor. Paccheri alla Vignarola: such an amazing flavor and this pesto was made with fava bean paste, so the texture of this pesto is suburb! The ambiance was modern, clean and open with greener in the back patio area and I loved the artwork around the restaurant stating the different areas of Italy. I'd love to go back to A16 and have more dishes of their menu! I can't wait! Hee sides: Brussels Sprouts, and finger linked potatoes

My boyfriend last minute made Valentines Day plans here (mostly because everywhere else was booked and he knew I needed to be dined out on Valentines day). Plus, he wanted to take me somewhere new. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I already came in skeptical because it's so easy to make just average Italian food, and harder to knock my socks off (cmon, SF has Flour + Water, Penny Roma, and Cotogna!!!). The service was amazing. We had the sweetest waiter and made sure we were taken care of. Interior is super cute with outdoor patio in the back and wine cellars. However, it's really hard for me to stand ten toes down behind a restaurant when the food is just whatever. We did the Valentines Day tasting menu with the wine pairing. The antipasta dishes were good, nothing amazing. The main dishes were soooo disappointing. The Margherita pizza was average, and the pasta dishes were even more average. (You know it's bad when "We can make this better at home" is said) The duck dish was fine, but nothing worth curling your toes. Price point doesn't make sense when the food tastes so bland and boring. Would not recommend :(

I came back again with my sister and brother in law because I enjoyed the first time I went. If you read my review for Flour + Water, you'll know I love a chilled salad. The arugula salad wasn't chilled the way I like but for others it's probably fine. The dressing I think had too much lemon and salt for my liking and my sister felt the same. We had 2 pizzas which were fine and meatballs. The meatballs were disappointing and had way too many breadcrumbs mixed in making them so soft and lacking in meaty flavor. Also super bothered that they sat us at a table by the pizza oven on a hot day when there were plenty of other seats available. We asked to move to their back patio because we saw plenty of seats and the host said they had reservations but the whole time we were there half the patio was empty. Service wasn't the same as last time.

Walked in on a rainy Tuesday night with 2 other people. Joe's had a 20 minute wait but A16 was half empty. Food and wine were good. Wait staff seemed indifferent. Our table shared the little gem salad and brussel sprouts. We each got a different pasta, and everyone enjoyed their dish so it seems you can't go wrong with pasta here.

Came here on a Saturday evening and had a reservation (would recommend this as it was pretty busy). Service and Staff: - Our waitress was very kind and didn't show any signs of stress (she had a lot of tables). She also didn't write our order down at all, but got it all correct Food and Drinks: - Margherita Pizza: forgot to take a picture of this! Came with 6 slices that were pretty good size. I ordered mine with the burrata cheese, which was a good call - Fava E Cicoria: fava bean puree. The puree and the chips it came with were both good. - Polpo: flavorful - Tiramisu: sweet, decadent - Olive Oil Cake: this was so good. The slices of the orange on the side added a nice touch. - Pomegranate Spritz: fun drink Miscellaneous: - Parking is tough in this area, but possible - Outdoor and indoor seating available - Alcoholic drinks are limited to wine, beer, and two kinds of spritzes

Really cute date night wine bar. We loved our charcuterie board, though cheese could've been more inspired. They were kinda boring cheeses. Outdoor patio was gorgeous and service was kind, if inattentive. Pizza was definitely good but wish it had a little more flavor. Crust and dough was excellent, maybe could have used some salt. But my husband always says I need too much salt. Would come back again for date night but food was good but not WOW

Been coming here since opening night on Valentine's Day 2004. Full disclosure, I helped remodel the place, but credit for how delicious the food is goes to Chef Yosuke, Chef Charlie and the incredibly talented and hardworking kitchen teams. Equally important you'll find at A16 warm hospitality and a groundbreaking southern Italian selection of wines in the capable hands of several sommelier staff working with A16's founding partner Shelley. Can't say enough good things about the people, the food, the experience. This restaurant holds a special place in the hearts of the neighborhood, the city of San Francisco and event the people of Campania and Napoli where inspiration for A16 began.

Had some wine and pizza with friends last night after a show . We ordered the first 3 pizzas in the menu (arbiatta, margarita and formage ) and they were very good - on the arbiatta I maybe would have added a little bit more cheese but all together great - excellent tomato sauce and good dough . We also ordered the cauliflower which was very tasty and a bottle of primitivo which was amazing - totally worth the 90$ To me this place a solid 4 stars , and I will definitely return again in the future !

A16 has such a great vibe--warm, lively, and inviting with a relaxed Italian atmosphere. The Neapolitan-style pizza was excellent, especially with the prosciutto, and we also really enjoyed the roasted chicken and fresh bread. Everything was flavorful and perfect for sharing. Great food, great ambiance, and definitely a place we'd come back to. Also located in the Marina district, and on a thurs evening, the street was lively. Will definitely come back, and maybe even sit up at the pizza oven bar counter

Two wood fired ovens add a smokey aroma to the room.

6% surcharge. They have two wood fired ovens that infuse the entire place with a great smoky aroma. The run-down: - 5/5: Salsiccia pizza $27: exceptional in flavor and texture. The flavors from the cheese, sausage, and broccoli rabe meld perfectly. I like the springy/chewy crust. - 5/5: Salted Dark Chocolate Budino $15. Exceptional. Better than what you get at a high end pastry shop. The mousse on top is light as air but packs very deep chocolate flavor. Perfect amount of fleur de sel. I had it with the Giacomo Bologna "Braida" dessert wine $16, which tasted like fresh berries. - 2/5: Inverno Spritz $17; pomegranate, lime, rosemary, prosecco. It doesn't work. It's a generic pungent spritz with no character.

    Michelle R.

We have been here several times and they never disappoint and last nights meal was no exception. We ordered several dishes and each one was fabulous. It was New Year's Eve so they were especially busy so our table wasn't ready when we arrived for our reservation. The hostess was extremely apologetic and friendly. We didn't mind the wait and it was not the fault of the staff. The entire staff is friendly and hard working, and did I mention how good the food is here? If you're looking for a fabulous Italian restaurant in San Francisco, put A16 on your list.

I love whiskey sours and espresso martinis so my favorite drinks were the Arlequin and the Gospel. The Arlequin had a perfectly smooth picturesque egg white foam tinted pink with huckleberries. It was a great balance of tart and sweet, and the berry notes complemented the light oak flavors of the scotch. The Gospel was like a classic espresso martini but with more complexities. The orange and ginger added floral notes and the drink was super smooth. The food was also amazing. We didn't order much since we were planning to eat dinner elsewhere, but I wish we ordered more. The stroop waffles were insanely good. It's a savory stroop waffle filled with tuna tartare that was deeply savory with sesame and chive flavor. Dear Val and The Patio Restaurant Team,…read more We wanted to extend our sincere thanks to you and the entire Patio Restaurant staff for making our wedding brunch celebration such a memorable experience. From the very beginning, Val was incredibly kind, responsive, and organized. She answered every question we had and guided us through the planning process with patience and professionalism. Our family and friends had a wonderful time, and everyone complimented the food, drinks, and beautiful venue. The patio space created such a warm, welcoming, and intimate atmosphere that was perfect for celebrating with our loved ones. The brunch menu was outstanding. Every dish was delicious, from the mac & cheese, fried chicken sandwiches, and meatballs to the calamari mixto, French toast, fruit and berries, charcuterie selection, sommelier's cheese selection, little gem salad, avocado toast, and scrambled eggs with potatoes. There was something for everyone, and every plate was enjoyed. We also want to recognize the bartender for crafting amazing drinks throughout the event and the servers for being so friendly, attentive, and professional. They made sure our guests were well taken care of and contributed to the relaxed and joyful atmosphere. The entire team went above and beyond to ensure everything was set up perfectly, allowing us to simply enjoy the celebration with our family and friends.
