A16 really delivered on some highlights! The meatball starter was a standout, rich and flavorful and served with bread to soak up every bit of sauce. You can choose four or six, which I loved. The pizza was another hit, baked in their wood fired oven with a smoky, chewy crust and a beautiful char that gave it so much depth. Toppings were balanced and let the quality of the dough and sauce shine through. The pasta, however, wasn't quite to our taste. We tried the lamb dish and found it a bit cold, with pasta that leaned too dense and starchy, and the lamb flavor overpowered the other elements. They had heat lamps but it was already a comfortable evening, and the patio was not too crowded or loud which made it really enjoyable. Three of my friends ordered pizzas, and they seemed fine and delicious, and another friend got the arugula salad with peaches that she said was fine. I got the ricotta gnocchi, and I didn't like it at all. I order gnocchi often, and almost always love it. This was watery, flavorless, yucky. I assumed I'd be refunded and placed the order again through another app, which worked. I picked up the pizzas, but never got the refund for the first charge. I called this place multiple times, left messages, and was ignored. When I finally spoke to an employee, she took all my information and promised a refund, saying she'd follow up. She never did. No call. No refund. I ended up paying over $100 for two small pizzas. This is easily the worst customer service I've experienced at a restaurant. Very disappointing. I was really excited to bring a friend here who was in town visiting! We made a reservation in the late evening, and despite the restaurant beginning to clear out through the evening, we had to wait for longer than anticipated to be served. Our server was very kind, and this is not about him, but about the way the restaurant may have been understaffed without communicating excessive wait times to us. We were seated for an 8:00pm reservation at 8:15. After being seated, it still took another 15 minutes for a server to come around, and we needed to ask for a drink menu. I can, our server was very kind, it just appeared that he had too many tables to take care of. When he was able to come back with the drink menu, we immediately ordered all of our food (drinks, starters, and mains), anticipating that it would be a decent amount of time before he was able to come back to us. It took another 15 minutes for us to get our wine, which was followed shortly after our starters. We finished both our wine and our starters while continuing to wait for our food, and it took about 30 minutes for it to arrive, almost a full hour from the time we walked into the restaurant. When it came, only 4 of the 6 dishes arrived, and our guests were waiting for ours to arrive before starting. When the final 2 dishes came, the plates were very hot, and the cheese on top of the pasta dishes was melting, both of which signaled to us that they had been sitting in the warming window for a while waiting to be delivered. Came here to celebrate father's day (father to my reptiles) and my chameleon's third adoption anniversary! calamari was salty, briny, and zesty but the bean to calamari ratio could be improved to include more calamari. Pasta was on the saltier side due to the cured ham, but the earthiness of the mushrooms balanced out the saltiness. I don't think I would order this one again. However, Salad was fresh and delicious, definitely a new go to! Their pizza is consistently incredible, and you can never go wrong with a pie to share with the table! Food and drink were mediocre. We got 2 pizzas, meatballs, arugula salads, and a spritz. The pizzas were okay. The meatballs were probably the worst I've ever had. They had barely any flavor and broke apart so easily. It seems like it was made with more breadcrumbs than meat. You needed to cover them in the sauce for some flavor. The spritz I ordered: There was no hint of pomegranate, lime or rosemary like it was supposed to have. My husband tried it and said it tasted like a plain sour beer. The best thing we had was the simple arugula salad. It was pretty empty inside when we got there. Of all the seating options the host sat us across from the oven. We asked to move to the back outdoor area-but she said it's fully booked. The whole time we were there no one took the empty table we would've liked. She did eventually move us over 1-2 tables from the oven. Unsure why we weren't seated near the other patrons in the back part of the restaurant vs right by the kitchen (which also would've been more comfortable due to the heat). Our server was really friendly and nice while she helped us order. But, she never came back to check in on us during the meal (and neither did anyone else). When we were finished we were looking around for her to get our bill. It seemed like she went on a break as we finally saw her sitting and chatting with her coworkers. Went here for a friends gathering and was really surprised at how big / deep the restaurant goes! I especially liked the little patio at the back. We tried 2 pizzas - the funghi and the vesuvio. Loved the funghi and the taste of the vesuvio though we felt the toppings of the vesuvio separated from the dough too easily. Love that the pizza is chewy but fluffy and thin! We also got the squid ink tonnarelli and enjoyed it though it was a bit too oily. We also got the peach sorbet and tiramisu for dessert and loved both! As well as two spritzs for drinks too. This definitely has a family owned vibe and it has a nice backyard that's great for larger groups. Of course in SF it may get windy and cold even on a sunny day so be prepared for that if you want outside seating. The service is decent but when it gets busy they do forget to bring new bottles of water. We also weren't offered bread. As for food we only has pizza and dessert so I can only comment on that. The pizza is very similar to any other Neapolitan style pizza except there is more varieties of different meats they add to pizzas. Tiramisu is delicious as it should. Overall it's a good choice but be aware that parking is ridiculously lacking so be prepared to drive around for a while for street parking even if you park several blocks away. I can't speak highly of them enough. I come every Friday night, without exception. I order the pork chop every time. It's an 11/10 dish. You simply won't find better. If you enjoy a fatty meat, it's absolutely S tier and if I ever leave San Francisco this is what I will miss most of all. I look forward, days ahead to the warm but upbeat ambiance that A16 exudes. I usually love Italian food but A16 was a rare Italian restaurant where I couldn't even finish the food. I ordered the orecchiette which was a lamb pasta which had such a strong pecorino cheese flavor that made the dish inedible to me, and I'm someone who loooves pasta. I also had a couple bites of the meatballs and a pizza which was only ok. The biggest disappointment for me was the "Chefs Selection Dessert". It was $11 for an assortment of 5 biscuits that literally tasted like prepackaged biscuits. The food was so unappetizing I didn't even want to take the many leftovers home. We split the vesvio pizza which is slightly spicy with a soft crust and the roasted potatoes which were absolutely perfect- crisp outside and tons of flavor without any seasoning whatsoever. Was taken here by my kids for my birthday and it was great. I enjoyed it. I stayed within a low budget (lol) since one is still a college kid, so I got the ravioli and we shared a margherita pizza with prosciutto, insalata, and pesto pasta. Their mother had told them I used to love the budino tart so that was the birthday cake. As good as I recall almost 17 years later. This Marina mainstay is a classic Italian wood fired pizza establishment with a true focus on curated Italian wines I find that there is a lot for me to learn - as a wine lover - about the various wines coming from Italy. Be prepared to find a fine list of by the glass and by the bottle beautiful wines. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. The staff accommodating. I recently sat at the bar and had the best service. Kind, helpful, warm and friendly. The food - top quality and delicious. Not pictured - salads with fresh ingredients and subtle dressing. I love great meatballs - and theirs did not disappoint. I found them a bit lighter than many and quite delicious. The pizza -- outstanding. I've had a few here, but this night, the Arrabbiata pizza with tomato, pancetta, mozzarella di bufala, grana padano, red onion, calabrian chili was just so delicious. The dish was inedible and nothing like described on the menu. It was also pricy. Prior to this terrible entre, we had salads that were OK, but nothing special and it was all expensive.
