We eat here literally all the time. It's our favorite AYCE (all you can eat) style Korean BBQ. The only thing I'd say isn't worth it is their premium menu. It's pretty pricy and none of the cuts really stuck out to me. Tried it once and enjoyed, but we prefer our regular staples. We love the spicy pork bulgogi, brisket, short rib, beef bulgogi, Hawaiian steak, etc. My husband's favorite that we always somehow have room for at the end of the meal is the hotteok (dessert pancakes.) Very disappointing experience. When I walked in, I saw multiple employees in full uniform eating at the bar, with staff servicing tables stopping to take bites of food. There was trash and dirty plates behind the bar, which looked unsanitary. Employees on the floor were also frequently checking their phones. I placed a pickup order that said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I drove 20 minutes to get there, only to be told the food hadn't even been started. Great food but never go during a dinner rush. We visited Gen 2 times with similar experiences. We were left waiting for 20+ minutes on end for literally anything. Our first visit, we waited 20+ minutes for a manager to cash out our check, which was extra exhausting because we didn't even have food to eat while waiting. Our second visit, we enjoyed our first round of meat then were left with an empty grill and empty drinks for 20+ minutes before our server even noticed us. By the time he came by, frustration pretty much spoiled the meal/experience and we asked for the check. This place could honestly be a gem if they staffed appropriately and provided any form of actual customer service. TLDR; good food but probably only visit during non-busy hours or expect wait times and poor customer service that rivals even the DMV. read more

We went here on the weekend during lunch and order the dinner menu with the premium meat. Overall the cost is $50 dollars, but we got the Costco gift card for $80 for $100 dollars. This time we knew what to order and focused on the premium meat. The place was not busy at 11am, but got more busier after 12pm. My advice is show up at opening as the plaza does get busy after 12pm and parking will be much harder to find. I do love the wagyu beef, ribeye, short rib and beef tongue. I do like the salad that comes with it. If you have the money I would just pay extra for the meat. This time we did not leave stuffed. The potato salad was good too. I arrived with a group (12 in total) and although the table was empty and ready for us to be seated, we were forced to wait for over thirty minutes before we were allowed to be seated. Apparently, your meal here is timed. I wouldn't have any problems with that, except for the service slows down greatly after you've had a few rounds of food. If you are expected to finish eating in a timely manner, having frequent refills and not having to wait for 40 minutes for a specific meat to arrive to the table (which still has to be cooked) would make the timing situation must easier. Also, getting refunds when you have ordered spicy foods is imperative; not everyone can continue eating it without something to drink. Also, after a few rounds of food, we had to turn the grill off ourselves because the grill plate needed to be changed out by staff and subsequently, the food was burning. Again, if we are being timed for it meal, I would appreciate having attentive service during the entire time we are there eating. The manager looked very underwhelmed with even being present. I witnessed him making multiple annoyed/irritated expressions while he was holding the tablet up for people to make payments by credit card. He definitely did not give off a welcoming vibe and seemed to be mentally checked out. The food was good, although I cooked it myself, so I suppose I played a large part in that. Be sure to clarify upfront how you will be paying if you are part of a group. The manager told us that we could only split the check into 4 parts (so no individual payments, etc.) which was a bit more difficult since we had 12 in our group. We spent over $100 for three people, and the experience was disappointing. The food came out cold, the grill wasn't properly heated, and the meat quality was poor. Another great experience at Gen Korean BBQ this time in Carrollton. We came to celebrate my friend's birthday and enjoy some time together. We are both big fans of the Bulgogi so we had several servings, along with chicken, and steak. The food was top notch as usual and our waiter was attentive and helpful. I was a bit more comfortable with the experience this time having eaten at the Frisco location with my family. I do have to say that the menu is such tiny print it is difficult for older people to read even with glasses. But other than that loved the food, the service and the atmosphere! I struggled with what to rate this place after my visit today. It just seems that GEN has constantly gone downhill since 2023 after their IPO. We went today (Tuesday) at lunch with a party of 3. When I got to the restaurant to get seated for the rest of my group, there was no one manning the front host area. And it stayed that way for around 10 minutes. No one came to help. Finally, our server came to help (he was great, by the way!) and sat me at our table. The first thing I noticed was that the banchan was already out on all of the tables. I get that they open at 11 and I arrived at around 11:45, but is it really too much work to get those out fresh for every customer when they arrive? Also, we were told that the lunch price was not available because apparently it was Spring Break for the kids and local school districts. So even though me and my friends came here on a weekday just because we so happened to have a day off together from our three separate jobs, we got lumped into the increased dinner all day pricing for that? That's really something that should've been disclosed up front and not after everything's been set out and the drinks and food are about to be ordered. Now the service. It was VERY clear that they were understaffed. Whoever made the decision to basically open almost the whole restaurant with just 3 servers deserves some kind of punishment. Naturally, we were forgotten. 30 minutes after ordering, we only got 2 plates of food and it took so long for the next round that the fat from our first small round of meat actually burnt into the grill and they had to replace it. Also, our drinks (3 waters) didn't arrive until we were almost done with this first small round. Finally the server got around to our table and we started getting our food. We ordered 8 plates in total but somehow only received 6 in total so we have no idea what happened. In addition, the cuts of meat seemed to be of much lower quality than they used to be. The beef chadol was frozen solid and did not unroll very well and the bulgogi had this really undesirable characteristic of firmly sticking to the grill to the point of being unable to be separated from it. I quite frankly think it's ridiculous that they're charging $33.99 per person for such mediocre food and service. Plus they want $20 more per person for their so-called "premium" menu? In my opinion, GEN is good for a one-time experience and nothing more now. You're much better off visiting another KBBQ place than coming here. read more

He was very attentive, changing the grill before we asked and checking in with us a lot. The service here really made this experience 5 stars. Of course, the food was also amazing. You can choose from so many items for the basic ayce price of $31 and it was very worth it. I really liked the galbi, it was so tender and marinated really well. Other meats I enjoyed were the beef belly, brisket, and the bulgogi. We kept going back to the galbi though - definitely try that! We had a family night out at Korean bbq. From seating down no one acknowledge us for over 15 mins. By the time our meat got delivered the grill was not set up and when the girl delivering meat was asked to start it we were met with im not your server as she dashed off without finding help. After the first round of meat the grill needed to be replaced, but all the server did was turn off the grill said we are waiting more more with no idea when there will be a clean grill. We talked to the manager with her response of I will personally go back and help wash grills. When the new grills came out all you could smell was the heavy lather of soap. read more

Dirty tables everywhere and chairs covered in grease with tables that looked like they have never been wiped down with food covering the floor with constant dropping of the trays by servers. Do not come if you cannot use a chop stick I ate with my hands for the first 40 min because a fork could not be cleaned after asking my server 3 times and eventually he handed me a spoon to eat with. Our server told us we must clean our grill with a horse radish because grills could not be changed as fast because they don't have many at 6:30 at night.... Be so fr. We only had one grill the whole time! For an hour! I included a picture to show what it was looking like 4 plates later. The Diet Coke I was given was filled with floating pieces that looked like cleaning solution which my server did not take away. I found a hair on my rice cake plate. Just a terrible terrible experience but to top it off we were constantly asked if we wanted the check and that if we don't finish our food we would have to pay. Went here for lunch as I was craving pork bulgogi and it didn't disappoint. The meats were exceptionally well-marinated. Ofc the standout for me was the spicy pork bulgogi, which was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Also the second fav was fish katsu. Additionally, we tried the Hawaiian bacon, spicy pork riblets, kfc chicken, deep fried mandu. Overall, the quality of the food was top-notch. The sides were all delicious. The only thing I wouldn't try again was the Hotteok which is Korean sweet pancake, just personal preference. Also the drink I ordered was meh so maybe would order something else next time! It helps if someone's there who has some base knowledge about cooking and is willing to do it, but honestly anyone can really do it. Even my teen could. Just need to be mindful about cross-contamination of raw and cooked meat and utensils. The meats are all pretty easy to cook, and they were really great about changing out the cooktop. This place was absolutely great, we arrived on a busy Friday night and there was a line of people waiting so I assumed it would be good. We got seated fairly quickly and set up at our station with our sever arriving shortly after that super nice and friendly. The place was really big, blue lights on the tall sealing, gave it a really cool futuristic effect, the lights were dimmed but bright in the center of each cooking station. The menu had a LOT of options, and I even asked our waiter for some recommendations. Everything we ordered was absolutely delish. Several waiters came to our table to clean the pots and I was surprised how many times they we switch us the pans and stuff so it made me very happy because they kept it clean for us to continue using and the staff in general seemed to work very well in teams to make sure we were very well taken care of. They also had a huge drink menu with lots of fun things and even some non-alcoholic stuff which always is a win for me. I enjoyed the ambient, the food and staff, the prices were reasonable but honestly, even if it was pricey, it would be worth every penny. We've had good experiences at Gen in the past, but our visit to the Carrollton location this time around was surprisingly bad -- easily one of the worst we've had. Our party of 8 waited 30 minutes to get seated, even though multiple smaller groups who arrived after us were seated ahead of us. When we were finally sat, the table wasn't even ready -- no sauces were provided, and after another 30 minutes of setup, we still had to ask around just to get the basics. Other issues piled up fast: No salad available, which is something our family always enjoys Vegetable plate came out twice missing zucchini Our grill overheated multiple times, and we had to flag down servers to get it changed -- no one was proactively checking in The rice machine was dirty, and the station around it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while -- pretty unappetizing To be fair, our server was kind and tried his best -- this wasn't on him. The problems clearly stemmed from poor management, bad prep, and lack of oversight. Honestly, we started to wonder if we had accidentally walked into the Dallas location -- that's how chaotic and underwhelming the whole night felt. We've come to expect better from Gen Carrollton, but this visit made us rethink that. Hopefully this was a one-off bad night, but as it stands, we wouldn't recommend coming here with a large group -- or at all until they sort things out. read more

This is my new favorite Korean BBQ place in the area. I've had a lot of K-BBQ in the DFW area, probably half of the places here (theres probably more K-BBQ places than BBQ here so it's more than it sounds). So let's go over what makes this places different. Service here is by far the most friendly and most attentive compared to other places. Thats not to negate other places, but theres lots of observational touch points to make sure you have everything you need. The staff is willing to make suggestions to try, and ask what you like to try to steer you in the right direction. Not something you see at most of these places (at least that I've been to, you can get it other places but you have to ask and typically get a look when you do so). The over all food itself is incredibly tender and more flavorful. It's hard to tell if they simply have better marinades compared to other places that tenderize the proteins better, or if it's higher quality meats... it could be both. Either way, it's hard to go wrong with anything you get here. While many places have a handful of options for their AYCE they keep it simple and reasonable. There is the standard K-BBQ AYCE, but you can upgrade to the Premium which includes a Wagyu option, as well as what I'd guess is an 8oz ribeye. GIven the service, quality of food, and price Gen is punching outside of its weight class. I've been there now 3 or 4 different times and the experience has been incredibly consistent. I also get the impression the restaurant treats their staff very well also, but I'm basing that on the people that have served me seemed generally happier than you'd find at most restaurants. read more

We got a surprise when the bill came in more than expected and they quickly pointed to the print where it shows an upcharge for the menu.
