What a gem! Came here on a Saturday before the dinner time rush. My boyfriend and I both got the kefta plate. The caramelized onions on top were so good and complemented the meat perfectly. The rice was light and fluffy with good flavor and the salad had a light, tangy acidity to it that I appreciated. This was my first time trying harira soup. I'm not very happy with this restaurant. I found hair on my food within the salad and they questioned us and walked to me with the piece of hair and tells me "no one has that hair color in their kitchen" and it didn't match my friends and I. Since I found it within the salad they only replaced my salad and not the whole meal which I think it's just gross and unappetizing in general since it's been cross contaminated. So we just kindly asked for a refund since I just felt uncomfortable to eat the meal. Just a very upsetting experience. They were arguing with us about the hair and started yelling at us so aggressively that it's our hair which I thought was just so unprofessional. They didn't wear hair nets as well which concerned me even more. My friend and I were were having fun and it's our first time trying out Moroccan food, we really enjoyed our meal and if they just replaced the whole plate, we wouldn't ask for a refund. We only asked for a refund for the meal that had hair which I thought of was reasonable. They got more angry when we asked for the refund and were accusing us of putting hair in our food? Like I have never experienced this kind of hostility from a restaurant for a simple fix. For them to raise their voices at us so aggressively was just so sad. I wish they had better customer service, especially if I've paid for my food prior to receiving. I expressed my concern very nicely too without starting an argument. But for them to yell at us so disrespectfully of course we had to show that we didn't appreciate that behavior. After the hostility, we did eventually get a refund and we just decided to leave. Our options for the prefix meal included a salad (hummus, potato salad, beats and marinated carrots) chicken or lamb shank, cookies and tea. Everything ordered was out of this world. The food was just amazing...lamb shank was my favorite part...the person who waited on us was gruff to start with and then warmed up...I was not sure what to expect from the belly dancer but that was fun...she managed to embarass me adequately and made me dance a little bit. Hummus was fresh and served with lettuce, maybe for presentation but I enjoyed as a good added greens. The kafta with caramelized onion was unusual to me, hints of cinnamon and other herbs, the onions added sweetness. Saffron rice was yummy too, and as my partner always likes a vegetable component in every plate, the salad was a nice touch with light dressing- I like to taste my vegetables. This place is truly a hidden gem on the coast of Alameda. Walked in after going for a walk along the water, and the place was empty. I was a bit hesitant at first, but my skepticism was totally unwarranted. The food was delicious, and the service (to the extent there is service for takeout) was very good. The chef/owner was very excited to share her food with us, and after taking the first bite I can see why. All the staff was very friendly, and it appeared to be a family-run restaurant. I'm very happy we found this place and we could support a local business. They are also taking COVID precautions seriously, which is always a huge plus. We ordered the following: First, Moroccan saffron rice with kefta (ground beef meatballs), caramelized onions, and side salad for $11.50. Portions were big! Saffron rice was on point and very tasty. Salad had tomato slices and cucumbers on a bed of lettuce with a great vinaigrette dressing. The kefta was excellent; seasoned perfectly and cooked medium/well done. The caramelized onions were arguably the star of the dish: caramelized with cinnamon and a hint of sugar, they tasted sublime and paired perfectly with the rice and meat. Very satisfied with this dish. Second, Moroccan salad with chicken breast and feta cheese. Salad portions were huge and the chicken was also very well portioned and seasoned well. Third, Moroccan coffee. Strong, black, and served with cinnamon and sugar. I absolutely loved it, and it came piping hot to order. They also included the coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup, in true mediterranean coffee style. Highly recommend! Fourth, Moroccan mint tea. Also served piping hot and with sugar. There is actual mint included in the tea, and it was the perfect compliment to dinner. Finally, Moroccan lemonade. Fresh squeezed, perfectly sweet (not overly so) and served with fresh mint as well. This place will be special to me as it is the last restaurant I ate at before shelter in place and haven't ate out since. My dog was getting groomed nearby so I had some time to kill before picking him up. I've never had Moroccan food in the US before and I recently went to Morocco a few weeks prior so Abigail's seemed like a great choice! I walked in and immediately became reminiscent of the cute cafes in Morocco. I ordered the vegetarian eggplant stew with mint tea on the side. The dish was so yummy and it made me reminiscent once again. The cafe sits across from SF and you can see the entire skyline from the restaurant, crazy view! The entire restaurant is family run and I hope they make it through this crisis. My first time lunch at Abigail's was underwhelming but given its great waterfront location and the belief that other dishes are much better than what I had, I would return. I'm going to come back for Abigail's Saturday $25 prix fix dinner with belly dancing entertainment. The menu includes multiple items so I'll get a much better array of dishes better representing the excellent reviews from many others. I ordered Saffron Rice With Kefta ($11.99), which is essentially mini hamburger patties and carmelized onion over rice with a small side salad dressed with lemon juice and olive oil. The dish was just OK. No distinct or memorable flavors. Sadly, to me, the dish was boring. For $11.99 boring should not be part of the culinary equation. Saffron rice? It may be but my opinion is it is not saffron rice. The rice appears to be the wrong color yellow and does not have the redish tones or saffron threads that real saffron rice has so I doubt the rice has any saffron in it at all. No saffron flavor either. Saffron is not only the most expensive spice in the world, at a low of $500 per pound up to $5,000 per pound wholesale, it is THE most expensive food in the world! Few restaurants actually use it but many claim they do. Keep in mind just a few threads of saffron makes a dish so a tiny bit goes a long way. My best friend of 36 years is from Iran and she's an incredible cook who uses real saffron in her rice. In fact, Moroccan food reminds me in many ways of Iranian cuisine. Directly across the street from the bay with a view of the San Francisco skyline, the location is great. Outdoor view seating Is a big plus. read more

Just tried this place for the first time, getting Saturday dinner takeout. I called to place my order, and the woman I spoke with was friendly and helpful. I said I'd like the takeout as soon as it could be ready, and made plans to arrive when they opened at 6pm. Well, they called to let me know it could be ready a little earlier, so I got to get it early! That's great customer service. We are vegetarian, and they were helpful in making sure we could eat the egg, the carmelized onion. When I arrived to pickup the food, both the woman at the counter and the woman I'd spoken with on the phone were very friendly and helpful, offering to help me carry the food to my car, and being sure it was packaged conveniently. I paid indoors, but the woman at the counter wore a mask and there was a big thing of sanitizer available and it was easy to keep social distance. They have some tables outside for dining there, and I'd be more comfortable trying outdoor dining here than places in a built up area where people are walking by you on the sidewalk constantly. There is a sidewalk close to the tables, but no one was walking by and I doubt there is a lot of foot traffic. Well the food was great. There was mint tea, which was sweeter than I would ever make tea, but honestly it really hit the spot and was so good, so sweet and minty. The lentil egg soup was delicious and warming and filling and made my hungry self very happy. The main course we had was a cous cous w/ vegetables dish and was served with four garnishes/appetizers -- hummus, roasted red pepper, carrot salad and potato salad. The appetizers were good, though my spouse didn't like the two salads because they have vinegar in them and he doesn't like vinegar. I enjoyed them! The main dish cous cous was really yummy, and the eggplant was very very good (seems to be that eggplant is either cooked perfectly and awesome or badly and bad -- this was the perfectly!). There was enough food that I ate the leftovers the next day for lunch and couldn't even quite finish before I was full. The final part of the dish was these little cookies, that were like shortbread with fennel. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend this place. read more

Two friends and I had a lunch at Abigails Moroccan at Ballena Bay in Alameda. It's located in a building after where The Whales Tale used to be many years ago. The restaurant really has no ambiance as I didn't notice any windows to see out onto the water or the boat docks. The food, however, was better than I had imagined. I don't remember having Moroccan food before but I was surprised at the quality and the taste of everything I tried. My friends ordered a couple of lunch specials which consisted mainly of various vegetables that were deliciously spiced and flavored. I had lamb on mind so I ordered a lamb dish, considerably at a higher price at $30 verses around $13 for the vegetable dishes. We shared everything and we're happy at our choices. The place doesn't seem to be well known as we were only one of two tables that were occupied. This place really could use a little advertising. I hope they do well in the future. read more

OH MY GOSH this place is ridiculous and fun and I loved it! I came to town to visit some friends who lived nearby and they highly recommended Abigail's. We called Friday night for a 7pm reservation on Saturday and they were able to accommodate us on short notice. I had NO idea what to expect but my friends told me it was something amazing. And how right they were! We were able to bring our own wines, so we were already a little woo-woo by the time THE BELLY DANCER CAME OUT! What! It was insane! And a bunch of us were welcomed to go up and dance, which was hilarious. Oh, and the food was amazing. I ordered a vegetarian option and I couldn't believe how flavorful and delicious it was.
