Able Appliance Repair is on the roster of companies assigned to fix appliances on behalf of American Home Shield. I can't speak to other people's experiences, but I feel AAR holds up their end of the deal. In each case, they were able to set a timely assessment appointment. Our appliances are older, so there were complications in ordering and receiving parts. However, they can't hold the blame for the delays in receiving hard-to-find parts. They're quick, honest, thorough, and wore masks during their visits. If I hadn't used AHS, I'd have called them myself. read more

We have used Able for years and have always been very happy with their service. (I first found them in the newspaper, so you know how long that's been.) I needed to fix a broken igniter on our 35-year old Whirlpool gas clothes dryer. I scheduled an appointment with Terry who was very pleasant and did her best to get me an appointment as soon as possible. Time frame was between 9:00-1:00. Austin called me at 8:45 to give me a more specific time frame. He called again when he was 10 minutes out. He arrived on-time, and was super polite, quick, efficient, and very professional. Dryer was fixed in 40 minutes and it works great again! The price to repair was sooo much lower than the cost of buying new. Thanks, Able Appliance for another great repair job! read more

Where to begin, I would give this 'company' a negative one star if I could. Just as the other reviewer who has a home warranty, this company did NOTHING for us with our dishwasher. Ryan, a class A jerk, came to our front door. As I opened the door, after a few words and just seconds from stepping in my home, he just walks himself past me and finds his way to my kitchen. Poor, poor etiquette. Upon 'looking' at our dishwasher and tinkering around, he states there is no problem. Um. Yeah, our dishwasher is a 1992 and does not clean dishes! It was working up til a couple years ago and this was the THIRD time we called our home warranty plan (a plan we pay monthly for, by the way) to get someone out here to fix once and for all! I suspect there is some shenanigans going on with the warranty company and their contractors. I bet those (by looking at these other reviews) without a warranty plan are told by "Able Repair" exactly what is wrong and what needs to be replaced or fixed. Yet, because we have this plan (which will be canceled as nothing seems to get done by a service we pay for monthly), Able gets paid there amount and the vicious cycle continues. Able is very UNAble to help. Ryan (who looks no older to be, maybe, 25... states he has been doing this for 12 years?!). Makes me question a lot about this company, including those other high rated reviewers. Like I said, those who do not have a home warranty plan seem to be treated much differently. Ethics rates high in my books, whether someone has a warranty plan or not, all customers should be treated fairly and kindly. Oh, and as an added bonus, as we were explaining to Ryan that water leaks under the dishwasher and on the side of dishwasher, and behind the dishwasher (let alone does not clean dishes at all, leaving soap residue (in addition to food grease, etc.)), Ryan scoffs multiple times... then as if he could not lower himself more as he represents his daddy's business, Ryan decides to just walk out of our home as we were talking calmly but firm about the unfairness going on. Not a word or goodbye. What a joke. Spare yourself and call somebody who is professional, curious and capable (or shall I say Able). Please note the company name is misspelled here, should be "Able Appliance Repair LLC", so I was not able to find this company when Homeshield Home Insurance assigned to fix our oven and was a little bit concerned they may be a one-star company as lots of them are with Homeshield. I was so wrong! We had a power outage and our oven locked itself. Ryan and Austin came over and they were very professional. Arrived even before the scheduled time, both wore masks, were very polite. Evaluated the oven, had to order a new lock. A new lock came in as promised in a week and Ryan and Austin were back, on time, quick to fix the issue. Once they left, I tried it out myself and the lock did not seem to lock, so I caught them in the driveway, Ryan he said he tested, and that I just needed to wait for it to lock. He stepped out of the car, came back to the house with me, to show me that the lock was working properly. Very professional, on time and pleasure to work with. Picture this: It's June... it's HOT... and I had an abundance of tequila and limes - Time to waste away in Margaritaville! Or not. :( You can imagine my disappointment when I reached into my ice maker and discovered that there was absolutely no ice to be found. THE HORROR! So, I huffed, and I puffed (sober and sad) and I called my home warranty company. They sent Able Appliance Repair to save the day (and I'm so glad they did)! The guys were on time, courteous, and quite speedy. They identified the problem in less than half an hour and decided it would be best to order me a new unit. Since I was using my home warranty to pay for the repair, my cost would be the same no matter what they did (so getting a new unit was definitely ideal). Installation went off without a hitch, and the guys didn't seem to mind that my beagle/terrier wanted hang out with them while they installed the new unit. I have AHS Warranty. AHS Warranty sent Able Appliance Repair. They didn't fix my dishwasher at all. They were rude and said yes you need to pre-wash all your dishes before you put them in the dishwasher! This dishwasher is only 2 years old and was doing great before it broke. I haven't had to pre-wash my dishes for years! I would not recommend Able Appliance Repair! The attitude they show woman is rude!! However if you want someone who won't fix your appliances and you enjoy being talked down to. Be my guest and call them! read more

They said we have to check what's cheaper buying parts or replacing the stove, collected the service fee & left. 5 days later, we still have a non working stove & no one I mean no one has called to give us an update. Or a status on parts / new stove. ZERO COMMUNICATION. My husband had to call for an update and it was then that they asked for additional information. Why didn't the techs ask for this info while at the house? Terrible customer service & lack of communication. I do not recommend this company! read more

They fixed the problem with our oven OK, but be careful about ANY criticisms you might make, no matter how you state them. They are a bit too thin-skinned if someone questions their staff for not knowing some general information about the appliances they are likely to encounter, in my opinion..... In this case, I dared mentioning to the nice lady on the phone that our oven was a "Dual Fuel" model. She sounded a bit distracted (or just too busy) but kept saying she didn't know what that was. A Gas and Electric oven-range (or "Dual-Fuel") is a common designation that I have heard for at least the last 6 or 7 years, referring to the oven portion running on electricity and the stove top portion running on gas. It's that simple. I've heard it and understand it, and I don't work in the appliance repair industry. Despite it being a fairly common term, this otherwise very nice lady said she didn't know what that meant. It didn't matter how nice she was, I just wondered how it is that she didn't know the term, but worked where she did. I found out how... I gave her as much detail as I could because I was trying to assist the techs when they came out and avoid that whole "We need a part we didn't bring, so we'll have to come back later sometime" sort of issue. When I mentioned that fact to the older gentleman of the two who showed up, he immediately stated that "she doesn't know what that is because she doesn't work on the appliances." I answered that I only mentioned it to give them as much help as possible. I guess he thought I was trying to apologize (I wasn't) so he said "let's just focus on this now". Whatever, man. The younger man soon asked if I had the schematic for the oven, and I told him that the oven was 3-4 years old, and that I did not have the schematic handy and offered to see if I could download it for him since he seemed to want it. (That was the whole reason I mentioned 'dual-fuel' on the phone to the dispatch person in the first place, buddy!!!!!!) He said something about them not having time to download all the schematics, (huh?) and doing what he could with what they had (not the ideal response from a repair tech whom I am paying for expertise. I soon found out why they were so defensive about an employee who didn't know some relevant details about the appliances her company serviced -- the dispatch lady was the older gentleman's wife, and the younger gentleman's mother. It's a small 3 -person operation. I found not being able to discuss a point of knowledge (or rather the lack of it) and their subsequent silent treatment and defensive demeanor a bit off-putting and less than professional, and will make sure I call a different repair company in the future; preferably one who can take a question or criticism and not make it personal. The lady was certainly polite enough, but just not particularly knowledgeable. I wish them well, but I will make it a careful point to avoid them in the future. read more

I would give the company negative stars if that was an option. I have AHS Warranty and when I filed a request, they selected Able Appliance Repair. The first interaction with them was decent as they came out and indicated that a pump needed to be replaced to fix the leaking from our dishwasher. Note, this unit is 3 yrs old and doesn't leak everytime we run it, just on occasions. They came a week or so later to install the part. Prior to them coming back, I called the office to find out when they were coming out to install the part, the woman who answered the phone was less than plesant and after giving her everything thing about my home and me except blood type, the finally located my work order. Said they we're coming on x date and i was good with them. They arrived today and it was David (owner) and a younger man. David didn't introduce himself or have much to say aside from "what wrong". Note to you sir.. you are coming back out to fix the same problem as you previously "repaired" and should have that info. I explained to him what they did before and what the issue is now (same issue). He and the other man opens the dishwasher, closed it, pressed the start button and I then left the room. I heard it running and draining into the sink and they turned on the disposal and then said, here's your problem. I came into the kitchen and David said, Your sink isn't draining and seems to be clogged. I told him we've never had an issue with the sink draining "EVER". He said look there and pointed to the sink with grease and food residue and said, the sink was half way full with stuff and I had to run the disposal to help it go down. I told him, it wasn't full when you arrived and we haven't had that issue EVER. He began to argue and raise his voice at me, I told him he didn't need to yell at me and restated my point that the sink was clean when he arrived as I was the person who did the dishes an hour ago. He stormed out of my house and left the other guy to defend him. I asked the other guy what that guys name was and he said David and he the owner. I told him he was a A-Hole and was not telling me the truth. They are an appliance repair company and should be able to identify the issue with the appliance in question prior to offering any repairs. I called AHS to file a complaint on this company and said I don't want them back in my home to fix the problem. They said I had to use them to fulfil the request or pay another service fee.. DO NOT USE ABLE APPLIANCE REPAIR as they are rude and unprofessional. read more

Terrible Service!! Not even worth a one star. They came to repair a dishwasher. When they arrived they didn't announce who they were. They went over to the sink and turned on the water and in two minutes, they left saying that the problem was not enough hot water. They never checked the dishwasher or turned it on to identify the problem. They were very unprofessional, laughing as they left our home. The problem was resolved by another appliance repair company. Don't even bother to call Able!! read more

Able Appliance came by today and called me first promptly at 9:00AM. The only technician is the son, Ryan, and his father owns the business, he said. He looked at my warranty and told me in 5 minutes what was wrong with my Electrolux refrigerator. He ordered the parts and said they would call me in a week to 10 days when the parts came in. Ryan was knowledge, SO CUTE TOO, and so courteous. Can't wait to have them back out to do the repair. read more

Appliance on the fritz? Call Terry Sims at Able Appliance Repair. She will be very helpful in talking through whatever issue you're having. She will be mindful of the type of problem when scheduling your appointment (don't we all agree that a fridge on the fritz is more urgent than, say, a downed dishwasher)? She will then send her husband and son team to come out and help you with your problem. This business is family-owned, and I cannot say how much this company made me feel better about a bad refrigerator. I would say honesty and concern for your issues were their top priorities. The only reason they're not getting five stars is because they were unable to fix my problem (compressor going bad, and they don't do that type of repair work). But they did come out to help diagnose the problem. The other manufacturer-approved companies either did not answer their phones or tried to turn me away by telling me how long it would be before I could get an appointment (one month to come look at a refrigerator; anyone out there live out of coolers for an extended period of time? I was looking for information and saw the ratings for ABLE. I am very surprised to see anything but a superb rating. Thank goodness I have not had a need for repair since they were out here a few months back. Our first repair from ABLE was a result of our home warranty company call. And the following repair call, I made sure that our home warranty was dispatching ABLE. We have had awesome service, the office called us in a timely manner and Ryan came out and either fixed the issues or made sure we were up and running quickly. He has diagnosed our stove,oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. Sometimes he needed to delay due to parts being ordered. The problem was fixed and he was polite and knowledgeable. This company has the worst customer service that I have experienced in the Austin area. first, they only conduct any business between the hours of 9am-4pm Monday through Friday. Here is my experience: Call to request a service call. schedule service call during their next available four hour window during their business hours (9am-4pm Monday through Friday). Take off work and wait. Service technician arrives, looks at my oven for 2 minutes and asks me what wrong with it. I give him the error code displayed on the control. He writes it down, charges me service call fee and says they have to order a part "someone will call you." Wait a week, finally call the company to check on the claim. told the part is now in and I need to schedule service call (4 hour window during their business hours). Service tech shows up installs a part and leaves five minutes later. That night turn on still broken oven. call back, schedule service call, wait, "I need to order another part." wait. hear nothing. call them back, "part is in, schedule another service call to have part installed." Wait. This is now over 1 month after we have been working with this company to fix the oven. When the service tech arrived he to install the second part, he informed a family member (who had to come over and wait for them since I had already taken over 12 hours off of work waiting) that he needed to access the exterior electrical panel that was locked. family member calls me at work and asks where the key is. service tech leaves after 15 mins while the key is being located and tells us that he will not come back unless we make another service call appointment! I call his boss and she tells me that they will not come back unless I make service appointment. I tell her that I am going to inform the warranty company that I was dissatisfied with their customer service and file a formal complaint. She said if I did that she would send the part back and we would have to start all over with another company. Had a problem with my oven and called Able Appliance. The lady who answered my call was very helpful asking me to check a few things before proceeding to a service visit. The guys came out and identified the problem quickly. They called me back the next day with price of part and labor. They showed up at the times they said they would. I had a great experience and felt good about the price of the part, labor and trip fee to get my oven back up and running. I'm very surprised at the negative reviews as my experience was better than average! I also have American Home Shield who sent out a dim-whit to tell me nothing was wrong with my dishwasher when a light continued to stay on (24/7) and it wasn't completing the cycle. Because the first technician could get it to run, he deemed it "working"....but that wasn't the problem. Able Repair was called for the second opinion. Ryan listened to what I had to say, heard what I thought the problem was and said I needed a new control panel (which is what I said to the first guy). All of these new appliances are run by panels that are all micro-chipped and if one thing goes, the whole thing needs to be replaced. He ordered the part, came back to repair it and was out of here in about a half hour. The machine is fixed, working well and it didn't take 2 and a half weeks just to get a call back. I'd definitely use them again -- sorry these other folks had a bad experience, but I can't even imagine the Ryan that was at my house was the same Ryan at their house. IS THERE A ZERO STAR RATING?? I have a Whirlpool gas range/stove that had a major malfunction while in the "BAKE" mode, causing it the oven to not turn off. It then proceeded to get hotter and hotter, smoke alarms going off, a code came up on the electronic panel (which was for an "overheat warning"). While I was on the phone with 911 calling for the fire department, the front glass part of the stove door came off due to the intensity of the heat. Needless to say it was a very scary situation. 911 operator told us to immediately get out of the house!! The fire dept arrived, after they turned off the gas to the stove (I now know how to do that!), they informed us that 5 minutes later I would have had a very serious fire in my kitchen from this. The next morning I was on the phone with American Home Shield (yep..another victim of AHS AND their crappy repair companies). My 28 year old daughter was the one who dealt with them each time the "repair" guys (and I use that term very loosely) from Able Appliance came out. The first time, they told her they were ordering parts replace the 'clock assembly' and the 'door handle'. ?!?!? I then called Dave to question him about WHY those 2 things were the only items of concern considering I had a MAJOR issue with my stove!! He was very rude and short with me, saying that was all that was needed. He mumbled something about how I pushed the BAKE button, I didn't quite understand what he was talking about and he offered no further explanation. Yes, I DID push the BAKE button - because I was BAKING something in the oven when it started malfunctioning! Fast forward a week, 2 men came back a week later, replaced the door handled (because the parts that held it onto the glass melted) and the something in the electronics part of the stove. He showed my daughter that the "oven worked" . He did not even bother to push the stove back into place! When I got home, my daughter pointed out that the "new" clock assembly DID NOT WORK...well, the time was correct twice day *eyeroll*. If you set it for 6:25, it stayed at 6:25. NO WAY was I going to turn that oven on! I called immediately and left him a 'terse' message. He called and said it must've been a 'defective part' and would order another one. I asked him why the hell he didn't check it out BEFORE he left. He said he checked the oven, he didn't think about checking the clock. Let me mention that at NO TIME did he ever leave a receipt that had any information about what he had done to the stove. Just "clock assembly" and "handle". SOOO now we are back to "I'll order another clock assembly". I wrote up a LONG list of questions I wanted answered for his next visit....*Did you replace the motherboard in the stove, because if the clock assembly was damaged, the motherboard mostly certainly was?". *I want to know EXACTLY what you have checked out and found wrong with the stove/oven - a DETAILED list! (Those are just a few questions of many). He showed back up a week or so later. My daughter ASKED HIM POINT BLANK if he replaced the motherboard and his reply was YES I DID. I later found out from AHS that HE DID NOT!!!!! My daughter asked him to write up the detailed list, he said he would do it - she walked down to the hall to go to the restroom and he left the house! Needless to say, I would not let this company step foot in my home again - EVER. I have spoken to AHS and requested that they write that in BOLD LETTERS in my account. I hope that anyone reading Yelp for reviews will read this, and the other reviews on here and take heed that this is very shady company with "repair" personnel that have no business walking into someone's home and taking their hard earned money! read more
