I love upscale Mexican. Don't get me wrong. But sometimes I just want good old South Texas Tex-Mex. Buela's is clean and authentic. You will hear some Spanish spoken here, which is a good thing. After I sat down they brought out homemade chips with two salsas. The red salsa was good and flavorful, but not too spicy. The green salsa was potent! Just like it should be. I ordered beef enchiladas. They were full of meat. Definitely got my money's worth. My only negative would be the enchilada sauce. The flavor was a little muddled to me. Good value for the money. The place is very clean. Small hole in a wall. I ate guisada tacos. Every place has their own seasoning and I love guisada tacos and the tacos here are very good. Stopped in as a party of 2 Saturday and were quickly sat. We had just searched on Yelp and came across this restaurant. It quickly filled up as we were eating. The flour tortillas as fluffy and great, this alone made the meal! I ordered two breakfast taco, potato and egg and papas à la Mexicana. Both delicious! And flavorful. My husband ordered menudo which was a generous portion filled with tons of meat and not just the caldo. And he ordered a barbacoa taco which he loved. When in town. We would stop by again. i ordered 6 tacos yesterday morning which was 2 potatoes & egg , 1 bacon bean & cheese , 2 bean & cheese , & 1 chilaquiles taco w/Sweet Tea . the total came out to $28.28 right ... doesn't sound correct at all for 6 TACOS & a drink smh !!! tell me why this morning I call and order the exact same thing and the total came out to $24.24 , and I'm explaining to the person on the phone and he can barely even understan what I'm trying to tell him because he's " busy " like what ? and is getting impatient with me for not understanding me in English or Spanish ! Like if this is my fault for being charged $4.04 extra for what exactly ? and then he proceeded to ask me if I want to continue the order and I tell him no . I'm asking why did I get charged extra and he still just doesn't understand me and then he tells me " I'm busy , im sorry " & hangs up on me . Really small place to eat. We will be back. Nice family restaurant, opens early and closes early. Breakfast and lunch, no dinner. Tables are really close, but it was not busy when we went. The iced tea was good. The chips are good. The salsa is good. Not too spicy, but the more you eat, the hotter it gets. Maria had the Gorditas plate. Two Gorditas, one with chicken and one with meat and potatoes. Rice and beans. The stuffing in the Gorditas had good flavor. We both love the taste of the Gorditas shell. I had the Texas plate, two cheese enchiladas, with beef fajita meat. Rice and beans. Good plate. Not too big but not too small. Good taste. Plenty of parking, but the restaurant is small. We enjoyed breakfast here on 11/3/24, we had a chicharron with egg taco, chorizo and egg taco, chalupa with beef, small menudo and a barbacoa taco all on flour tortillas. The flour tortillas were some of the best we have had and the chicharron was great. The menudo was good but not great, seemed thick to me. All of the other items were tasty and we want to go back for lunch for other items. Go check this place out. Great service. read more

I've come here twice and both times the service was great and the food was even better! The tortillas are perfectly fluffy and the breakfast tacos are filled generously. This was our second time dining at Abuela's and it was just as good as the first. I ordered the puffy tacos (beef) plate and it was delicious! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside of tortilla. My husband had the beef enchilada plate and he loved the gravy that covered the enchilada. Both our meals were fresh, hot and really tasted homemade. Great service and super friendly. We will for sure go back. As of this review (2025), the restaurant is open until 2:30pm. This hidden gem is worth the find and hype. I came to Abuela's with a friend and glad I did. We walked in and we're quickly greeted and sat. Our server was friendly and we're quickly sever hot coffee l, as we wanted. I ordered the Huevo and Chorizo plate and let me tell you, it was very delicious. I love this place! We've been coming here for years mostly because of just one taco... the queso en chile taco. As we say in Laredo "It's super badass!". My wife loves the huevos ala mexicana taco. Holy crap these tacos are massive! I did not expect this amount of food and mistakenly ordered 3 tacos when honestly 1 would've sufficed. Very friendly staff and ownership who take a few extra moments to get to know their customers (at least this was my experience). Very cool decor and interior with a cozy feel..so I guess it's fitting a fitting restaurant name haha. Definitely want to return and try more tack variations...however make sure to not order with your eyes! These tacos are truly absolute units. read more
