First time coming here instead of my normal place because it was closer to my house. I walked in on a slow Tuesday afternoon and was told it would take 30-35 minutes to be out the door, 25 minutes later they finally took my car into the shop, and 1 hour later it was finally done, but that wasn't the end of it. I have a 2005 SAAB 9-2x, which is a unique car because it is physically a Subaru WRX with SAAB logos on it. SAAB bought this model in 2005-2006 and rebranded the outside, but the stock parts under the hood are branded Subaru, any new parts I buy need to be from Subaru because SAAB went bankrupt, and it is serviced at a Subaru dealer. That being said, the car failed the test due to the K&N air intake because SAAB didn't test K&N parts. The same exact intake is listed as PASSING by Subaru for the WRX, but because SAAB didn't personally test this separately from Subaru (because they went out of business), it fails. Maybe I'm a little salty because it failed, but it also seems like an obscure technicality to not pass for. Not to mention that I bought this car 4 years ago with it's current setup and have never had an issue with it at any other smog location. Their suggested resolution? Go buy a stock part, put it on to test it, and then put the K&N back on. Thanks but no thanks, they can have my $50. I'd rather take it to a regular smog location and pay for another test than buy a new part and take it back here. read more

SMOG places really don't excite me, but they're a necessity of life in California. I don't think this place is the cheapest around, but I do think they're friendly, clean, and fast. Cheap seldom means friendliest, in my experience. So pay the extra couple bucks, mention the online coupon to get $10 off, and get it done! The waiting area is very clean and comfortable, which makes the time spent a breeze. Came here because of all the raving reviews on yelp. Owner asked if the car was modified to which I told him there was an exhaust and lifetime air filter. He said it was fine then said he wouldn't smog it 10 minutes later because it look modified (tires, rims and lowering springs), none of which affect smog. Anyways went down the street and passed smog with flying colors. Guy was the owner I think. 2 stars I guess since the waiting room was clean but owner was pretty rude. I took my 1992 Honda Accord to Paul to get my good old smog done and he took care of me. My boss recommended me to Paul and told me he's a great guys and knows what he is doing. And all of that is true. My car has and engine swap, and has gone through the California BAR and had passed with flying colors. 2 years ago when I took it to smog, my car would not pass.. And the reason why was because the guy whom I took my car to was not scanning, or inputting the right BAR number into the system. So 2 years ago I spent close to $600 in repairs that I probably didn't have to do. Paul reviewed my past smog data on this computer, and told me the last time I smoged they didn't even try to input the correct numbers!! So Paul puts my car onto the Smog machine, and inputs the correct BAR number, and my car Passes as if it was a hybrid!.. haha ok not really, but It passed and now i'm good for another 2 years, till i'm back at Pauls. Brought my car back to me and that was that, basically just blew me off. I had to ask them what possibly I could do next and was advised to get a referee. My car needed to get smogged recently and so I searched Yelp. Why not take it down the street you ask? Because I must be one of the lucky ones that got randomly chosen for Test Only. Nice. So I searched Yelp and found this place. They have a coupon online that gets you $10 off if you mention it. The lobby is nice and clean and they have a soda vending machine and a decent selection of magazines. Now here comes the part where I know I'm turning into an old lady: The last time I owned a car and needed it smogged, it was TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS plus the cert fee. When the holy eff did it get to be $65??? I'm sure any tech/mechanic could give me a laundry list of reasons for the increase in cost, but I'm pretty sure it's a racket. With that said, the guy at the front desk was super nice and explained how it all worked. -Which I already knew, but it was nice of him. How was he supposed to know and it's nicer to explain everything than assume someone knows how smog stuff works. The tech who did the smog was nice too. I think I waited less than 15 minutes for the whole thing. I'm sure on the weekends it's a different story. But for me, it's just one of the many perks of being unemployed. read more

It's the 22nd of November, the day before Thanksgiving, the last day I can smog and register without paying a penalty, and Accurate Smog Check closes at 6pm. I roll in at 5:57pm... Paul _cheerfully_ smog checks my car and was probably late getting home to his family. What I didn't know until after he finished (I passed!) is that today is also HIS DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY! I have had many cars smoged at Accurate Smog. Paul knows his stuff. It seems to me his brain is full of technical information that will help you pass smog. He knows exactly what is going on inside the car's emission system. I took my car in but it did not pass because it had been sitting idle for a while. He explained to me in details "WHY" it did not pass and what needs to get done for it to pass. So I drove for about 50 miles and came back for re-test and it passed. Thank you Paul!! After running around town trying to find a place to do my smog test so I could register my car in California, I came here based on the recommendation yelp and the referral from the mechanic. Paul was very courteous and very fast. He had me in and out in a half hour total! I went to have 1 of 4 of my cars smogged and it didn't pass. They said it could be the spark plugs. I had the spark plugs replaced as well as the wires and valve cover gasket. Brought it back and it still didn't pass. Brought it back to my regular auto mechanic and had a new catalytic converter put in. Brought it to a different smog place and they said it was the wrong one. Brought it back to my mechanic. He put in the one recommended by the CA state REF. Brought it back to this smog check and now they say this one is wrong, too. I obtained information from my mechanic who got the his information from the CA state REF, but this smog shop that the information isn't good enough. So now I have an appointment with the CA state REF to get their approval and then go the CA state REF assigned smog check place and have the smog done by them. I would never bring any of my other cars back to this smog place...ever! read more

This is easily the best place in California to get your car smogged. They recently moved into a new building and all I can say is WOW. Everything is very clean and all of the employees are incredibly friendly. Paul, the owner is the most honest , friendly, and trustworthy car person you'll ever meet. Even when it is busy, waiting times are very short and they have free Wi-Fi so bring your iPad, laptop, etc. and stay awhile. My smog check took less than 30 minutes. They wear face masks. They sanitize the counters & credit card reader after every transaction. They sanitized everything on my car that they touched during the inspection. They don't make appointments, so I go early - opens at 8 am. I forgot to say this time, but I live in Los Gatos in Santa Cruz County, and they can manage the different county smog requirements with DMV. read more

I was referred to Accurate Smog by my mechanic. My truck had failed Smog at Chevron and when my mechanic checked my truck out afterward, everything was fine. I went back to Chevron and they told me it doesn't matter. They would charge me a second time. I went to Accurate Smog and the customer service was wonderful and accommodating for a last minute drop in. The bonus is my truck passed inspection as it should have the first time around!
