Acorn is a Dickie Brennan's restaurant that is served cafe style in City Park adjoining the Louisiana Children's Museum. Even though it is a simple menu it satisfies. It is. Brennan's so the quality and service are always amazing. Cafe style means you order at a counter and the food is delivered. Unlike other Brennan's establishments Acorn does not offer a full bar and has limited wine options. The view from the patio overlooking the park is spectacular. read more

The food is pretty decent but slightly overpriced for portions. The main issue I have is that every single time we have visited, the line to order is at least 30 minutes long. That's tough with toddlers. When I mentioned it to the cashier she said "well it's Christmas break". The appropriate response would have been "I'm sorry for your wait". read more

Overall, we really enjoy Acorn. Sitting outside, with the lovely view of City Park is worth going alone, but it is also nice to have a kid friendly restaurant that serves good food. The cauliflower "wings" really rock my world! I never thought I would say "I love this" about something I had normally thought of as a nasty little vegetable. What a transformation! The flavor and texture of the "wings" is amazing! My sons usually order the chicken fingers and chips. Sometimes the chips are overcooked and too brown. The other day they were cooked perfectly. It would be great if the staff paid attention to not overcooking or overheating their chips. My husband loves the fried chicken sandwich, and I am a huge fan of the shrimp tacos with the mango salsa. But they have changed the shrimp tacos recently, and they are just ok- there is no mango salsa. Also, the staff is usually very amiable. My husband and I came for the Friday bites the other day. We had the veal which was flavorful, tender and delicious. However, for the price, the portions were very small! We weren't even served bread. But the strawberry shortcake was perfect and the staff didn't rush us even though it was around closing time. I hope they will continue having pleasant staff. We went back a few days ago with the kiddos and a young man checked us out, and surprisingly, he was pretty rude. I thought he was asking me if I wanted chips or fruit and he seemed to get annoyed that I wasn't answering correctly and proceeded to bark at me "fried or grilled?" It was quite shocking, and made me instantly change my mind about adding appetizers to our order. That experience was unfortunate because the Acorn is a lovely place, usually has reliably good eats, and a usually pleasant staff. read more

First impression it was really cute and very convenient if visiting the new children's museum. The menu is very affordable for a family to eat there, but I left feeling underwhelmed. I ordered the chicken sandwich which is a little misleading. It was ONE small chicken tender on a roll (think hot dog bun) with no side for $10. Meanwhile the kids chicken tenders comes with an order of 3 tenders and a side for $7. When it came to the table I asked if this was right for it to come with one tender when the menu said tenders (plural). She looked at me like I was silly. Okay. I ate it in 3 bites. My husband was just as dumbfounded as I was so he went to go talk to someone and they said it was supposed to come with 2 tenders. They sent another one to the table and it was made completely different and better! Still, its very small and its not a sandwich if its on a hot dog bun. I really appreciate them making it right, but hopefully they consider raising the price to $13-15 and serving an actual sandwich. Or at least learn from my mistake and order the kids tenders for a more food and less money. read more

There were only a few people when we arrived so I assumed the service would be relatively quick and that was my first mistake having to wait that long with a toddler. Waited 35 minutes for a chicken sandwich and slice of pizza which were pretty gross. Left most of it on the plate and will not be going back. We were given 1 napkin/set of utensils for everyone to share. Seems like operation was much better when the museum was open. Definitely not worth going to eat there especially when the museum is closed. Oh and it was $20 for the sandwich and slice of pizza so OVERPRICED for gross food. read more

This place is incredible! The staff are on a whole different level when it comes to customer service! Very well priced and the quality of food is partnered by the beautiful lakeside view. It's funny to find this cafe located behind the children's museum, but they are very well balanced for a great experience for any age.
