It took about 2 hrs after my initial call which is pretty standard in my experience (though not fun if you're stranded). The technician secured the exhaust piping and stated he would take it to the garage I chose and he would fill out the paperwork for me and drop off the key at the garage. This happened on a Sunday. This saved me from getting a ride to the garage and completing the key drop off paperwork. The technician treated the vehicle with care and was very courteous. My car broke down on my way home from work and they towed it back to their own shop for repairs. I didn't have to wait in the freezing cold, I simply left my keys on a tire and there were no issues. When it came time to picking up my car, I was late getting out of work and the staff stayed after hours to make sure I was able to pick it up. They even called me to confirm I was on my way and that they would wait for me. Such a great experience overall, customer service was exceptional. My car stopped steering on a busy street. I managed to pull over to the narrow shoulder. I thought I saw something fling itself in the road. I did. My serpentine belt. I called my insurance company, knowing I had towing on my policy. Action Towing caught the call. Instead of waiting an hour, I got a call and a text saying they were 10 minutes out. Only waited barely 30 minutes total. Daughter and I walked home to get warm. I walked the 5 minutes back, and the tow driver had my car on the flatbed and was just tightening and double checking everything. He pointed out fluid leaking from under the car, a new condition to me. I gave him my key and confirmed the tow to Basset's Auto Center. The tow driver was polite and professional, arriving an half hour early. I would highly recommend them for a tow. read more

I had my car towed here because it was within my 5-mile AAA limit. NEVER AGAIN!!! Not only do they charge a $45 fee just to look at the vehicle, but they also try to get you to pay for things that you do not need. For instance, this time they tried to tell me that an axle that I had replaced two weeks ago was going to need to be replaced. The back peddling that the girl on the phone did when I told her this was something special. "Oh, that's just what the mechanic said from looking at it." So, what else did your mechanic say needed to be fixed that really didn't? One must now wonder. So I paid my $45 "diagnostic fee" and had the car towed to my house. The call when out at 5:11pm. My car arrived (16 miles away) at 10:50pm. And it wasn't even on a flatbed. So my car, damaged already, was being dragged around town for OVER 5 HOURS!!! Which I paid them $40, in advance, to do. I guess since they decided to make me wait since I wasn't going to give them the $1,000 they were asking to replace a $40 ball joint and a $70 axle. read more

Would give a negative star review if possible. As a AAA service provider their level of customer support is abysmal. They botched a battery replacement, hard to do, but they did. Did not replace all the hardware on the negative pole. When the failure of the negative pole resulted in an error light they botched that repair. Took the car to our normal MECHANIC (capital letters to illustrate the difference) he diagnosed and repaired in 15 min. The owner of Action defended the his son's original work and their "repair" to the detriment of their credibility. They maybe able to tow, however they can't deliver on the Service portion of their name - Action towing and service. Beware of sending your wife or daughter there. Very misogynistic and disrespectful. As a life time AAA Gold member I will be writing a letter to corporate to let them know how their provider is representing their name Monroe County. read more

Poor customer service! I Waited and waited and had to call Action Towing as they were running late. They were annoyed upon answering and never reached out to notify me there was going to be a delay. At this point it was an hour from the initial phone call. I called them again about 15-20 minutes later and they said they would have the driver call me to update the pick up time and that he was in East Rochester which is 10-15 minutes away... Never heard from anyone. Now 2 hours of waiting and at that time I received an incorrect update through text stating they were on time and would arrive by 10:09am which was laughable because it was already past the initial timeline by an hour.... In the meantime a Dorschel truck showed up for an unrelated delivery and not knowing anything about my situation. After explaining to the driver he made a call into Dorschel office for them to reach out to Action as that was where my car was to be towed to. Action Towing was towing for The Dorschel Roadside assistance program for their Mini Cooper vehicles that day and Dorschel Mini was my destination for that tow. (Oh by the way...that morning was my first employment day at Paychex and I was terribly late. STRESSED to say the least.) It's now 2.25 hrs since the initial call in and the tow finally arrived. The driver was a polite and pleasant young man. He was the saving grace to this experience and review. Scammers! Never again will i go there. i mostly do repairs myself so I know a little about cars. I went here for the convenience cause it is a 1 minute walk from la fitness and I can workout while the repairs are done. But this was brake lines on a hyundai accent with hardly any ground clearance. I didn't want to do this job . They told me I needed new lines which I knew already and brakes. They quoted me over $800! I immediately told them just leave the car out front and they wanted to negotiate and asked me what i thought it would be. They called me back with the "my boss said we can do it for $500" speech. Again told them to just leave the car and I'd pick it up. I'd really like to rant about what pieces of crap American vehicles have become, but, since I had awesome service from Action Towing, I'll talk about that instead. My 2010 GMC Lemon broke down for the second time within the last six months. The service dept of my dealership was already closed, so I gave my insurance company (GEICO) a call and luckily I had roadside assistance on my policy. The GEICO phone rep was pleasant, and told me that Action Towing would be out within the hour. In my head, I was like F! (you get the actual word) I had just left Wegmans and had a pile of groceries in the car. Anyhow, up to an hour ended being appx 5 minutes. Yeah, that quick. Having someone show up that quick helped save my groceries, my bladder (I had already dumped a wide mouthed bottle out of the car window in prep to pee when I saw the flatbed turn the corner), and it definitely saved my agitation level! When you've got a vehicle with only 70k miles on it, a break down can make you pretty mad. But like I said, Action's quick arrival and their driver that actually had a pretty funny/cordial personality helped alleviate any anger I had towards my vehicle. read more

***TLDR*** - They failed to replace a fuel pump correctly and failed to reconnect fuel lines so I wasn't leaking fuel like a semi open spigot, twice. For the same botched job. ***Update*** - I took it back in and I am fed a nice selection of generic excuses in an attempt for the manager to claim plausible deniability. They refused to compensate me in any way other that telling me to "take my truck up to the gas station and fill it up to receive a reimbursement for my fuel". They claim that it was a faulty fuel retainer clip that wasn't a part of the original repair, but I brought the truck back in after the first time it was leaking and it wasn't leaking when I left that time. They didn't replace anything. All this time wasted, added frustration to my own schedule, and multiple trips back in and they offer me a half tank of gas? Which is at most $35? For a job that cost $627.91?! That MIGHT just cover the gas going back and forth to the shop not including the fuel that was dumped as I was driving it. This place is disgusting. I'll be pursuing a different method to get my money back. Even if this place is your last resort, buyer beware. This place is awful. Starting from the beginning? I have a 2004 Dodge RAM 1500 and one cold and blistery day I was happily driving down the road until the truck stopped running and rolled to a stop. Called up Action for a tow truck to bring it to the shop because after a bit of examining, I concluded that it must be the fuel pump. This not being something I am readily able to take care of myself much less on the side of the road, I didn't have a choice. They say the tow rig will be there in about an hour. After about two hours I call and I am told that the driver is about 15 minutes away. Fast forward 35 minutes and the truck has now arrived. Fast forward to the shop. They diagnose it and tell me that it is indeed the fuel pump and I accept the charges for them to carry on with the work. I get it back right as they are closing and figure out a day later that it's leaking fuel. It may have stopped running but it certainly wasn't leaking fuel before. So I have to take it back in of course. They have it for a day, which has now interrupted my schedule with personal appointments and for work. I get it back again. I parked it and went out of town for a couple of days. I get back, take it to the gas station, fill it all the way up, start it up, and my gas gauge immediately drops all the way to empty. Gas light on and all. Clearly they botched something or it was a faulty unit. (The fuel filter and pump are a part of an assembly that is connected to the gas level sensor.) Having had to bring it in already so they could FINISH THE JOB by fully attaching the fuel lines they disconnected to replace the pump, I have zero confidence that it wasn't one of their shoddy techs at fault. You guessed it! I have to take it back in again. I personally go to the business instead of talking over the phone on Monday. I'm told that the part won't be in until Tuesday afternoon so I would have to bring it in on Wednesday. Now this has interrupted yet another day of appointments and work. I leave it Tuesday night for them to get working on it ASAP, but don't receive a call that it is finished until 5:19P when they close at 6P. I have them leave the key in the truck so I can come get it after work. After getting a ride there to retrieve my truck, I am thankful for my friend bringing me and let him go on his way thinking "there is no way they could possibly have **** this up again..". WRONG. I start the truck and look underneath by the gas tank and as this "new pump" is running, it's spewing gas all down the side of the gas tank. It's later in the evening and I didn't want to interrupt my friend's schedule anymore that I had, so I drove it home watching over a quarter tank of gas just get dumped as I am driving. Now I've had enough. I'm taking it back in tomorrow morning and I'm not leaving that office until a refund is issued while they fix my truck. Except this time, I'm going to sit there and babysit. When they get done, I check it completely over because the professionals are clearly incapable of doing so themselves. Ladies and gentlemen, this is atrocious. I was supposed to be out of town tomorrow for work. Had they not done a shoddy job and left fuel lines partially disconnected once before, I would have not thought to look underneath and see that before driving over 2 hours out of town for work. Imagine if they did your brake job and didn't tighten the lug nuts down like they have not reconnected my fuel lines TWICE within TWO WEEKS after having the truck there on four occasions for the same garbage job? Take your money, valuable time, and most importantly safety elsewhere. read more

Such a helpful place!! I was driving across country and happened to be in Scottsville NY when my check engine oil level light came on. I pulled over on the highway and saw that my oil was leaking. I called AAA and they sent Action Towing and Service. AAA made the process confusing but the tow truck driver, Michael made everything seamless and ensured that the tow was covered! We went back to the shop for service, they were able to squeeze me in when I got there. The girl at the front desk was really helpful and kept me updated with the process. They put an oil plug back in , filled my car up with new oil and I was able to continue to drive on so I didn't have to spend the night at a hotel. Great place, highly recommend if you're local or happen to be in the area and need service! read more

Avoid this place! When a tire blew out on my car, my insurance company had my car towed to Action Towing. In addition to the tire, Action Towing recommended a brake job and replacing the oil pan gasket. I had not had any issues with oil leaks or braking, but went ahead with the work anyway. This was a very expensive mistake ($900). Shortly after leaving Action Towing, my car smelled like burning and started dripping oil when I left it in the driveway. This was diagnosed as a likely oil pan leak by two other garages. When I returned to Action Towing to have this fixed, they looked at my car and claimed that there was no oil pan leak-despite the opinion of the two other garages and the oil left in the driveway! Action towing ripped me off by charging me a lot of money for unnecessary and shoddy workmanship. Now I am left with the choice of driving around in a car that smells like burning oil or paying a couple hundred dollars to have the work redone by someone else. They also charged me twice for my NYS inspection and overcharged for labor. If you've been ripped off by Action Towing, you should file complaints with both the Better Business Bureau and the DMV. This is the worst mechanic experience I have ever had. read more

Absolutely horrible and dishonest auto repair shop. Typical car shop which will take advantage of your limited knowledge about cars. I had a check engine light on, and asked for an oil change. However, they insisted that they need to diagnose the car to see what is "really" wrong with it. After further diagnoses turns out the car only needed a oil change, but not after they slap you with a 90$ labor fee and charge another 40$ for the oil change itself? Never go here if you are a college student or looking for service you can trust. read more

Had car towed there for a broken shift bearing ($20 part). Was told I needed a whole new shifter cable for a total of over $400 including 2.5 hours labor, plus an oil change (which had been recently done) and coolant flush. Was told the bushings weren't available separately, even though i had already bought one. Paid them the half hour diagnostic fee of $45 and called AAA to have them tow it back to my house, where I replaced the bushing alone in less than a half hour for a grand total of under $100. The only reason I'm not giving them one star is because the tow drivers were very professional and courteous. They seem to be the only real shining stars here. Bottom line, they're a great place to take your car if you have tons of money to burn on small repairs. read more

I called AAA and this is their preferred tow service in Rochester. Also since they're an approved AAA repair shop I would have my car towed to Action for the repair work. BIG MISTAKE. DO NOT USE them for your repairs. I left my 2007 VW Passat over the weekend to get an estimate for a clutch cable replacement. They (Lance) got back to me late Monday morning with the cost and it was in the ball park for what I'd seen online. I gave the go ahead and was told they had to order the part from the dealership, but they would start working on Tuesday the following day. I called Tuesday afternoon checking on the status and was told the dealership hadn't delivered the part yet. It wasn't delivered until Wednesday morning. I was a little perturbed the day before about not being apprised of the work status and was assured by Lance the manager that he would personally keep me updated. Well again i had to call in to find out if the part finally arrived from across town and when i could expect the work to be completed. All i asked for was to be kept in the loop so I had realistic expectations, but that was a challenge for Lance. I got the car back late Wednesday afternoon with clutch cable replaced. When I left there I heard a slight wheezing sound like an exhaust leak, but thought really nothing of it. Progressively the wheezing started getting a bit louder a few days later, that is until I hit a small pothole pulling into a parking lot. That's when it went from a wheezing to a full on semi truck revving it's engine whenever I pressed the accelerator pedal and the car started sputtering. Coincidence maybe. I called Action and requested they tow it back to see what was up. Well it turns out one of the vacuum hoses needed to be replaced and they replaced it at no charge. But the reason it sounded like a Mack truck was the pipe from the engine to the first catalytic converter was no longer attached to the engine. The area where the exhaust pipe is coming out the engine is the pathway the clutch cable is accessed by a mechanic when replacing it. It looks like they detached the exhaust to get at the cable and didn't reattach the exhaust correctly. So when I hit that pothole the exhaust pipe just pulled loose. They quoted me about $1000 to repair this after I just paid them $950 to replace the clutch cable. By the way the car purred like a VW kitten and had no vacuum hose or exhaust leaks. One last thing is the way they put back together plastic battery holder and air intake was done shoddily. They had broken plastic clips on these parts when the had to remove them to access areas in the engine compartment. Thankfully they were generous enough to replace that vacuum hose at no charge. That was just insulting and I left there disbelief. They're a tow company that happens to do repairs. Great at towing, bbut from my experience they need to stick with just towing. Unfortunately if you're a AAA member you might be steered to getting service performed here and I would recommend you take it elsewhere. read more

back in March for the first time in my 29 year driving career I had a tire blow out due to cord separation while I was driving down the expressway to pick my nephew up from school. I got safely to the right shoulder by an on off ramp but it was very narrow due to snow banks half way up the windows on my SUV. After taking a look I knew there was no way I or anyone else could could change the tire there. So I called AAA. First A very nice young man came in a pickup to check things out. He said he couldn't change it even if there was room because with my spare being under the car the wheel was rusty & AAA policy prohibits it since a rusty wheel could make the spare blow too & cause a worse accident. So be ware all those who have these dumb spare under the car things. As the daughter of a mechanic I knew that wasn't ideal but I had checked the spare & greased the holder in the fall & it was good then. Anyway he told me to sit tight & he'd send a tow truck. When he came he was awesome. traffic was bad but he made sure I was safe in his clean warm truck first then he fearlessly loaded my truck on his & took us both to the tire shop the son of an old family friend runs.
