I have been addicted to golden spoon since I was a little girl. Always the same combo, just choc, strawberry, and pokies (white caps), because why mess with a good thing? I do love everything that I've tried here but I am giving it 3 stars because I do think that they should do a better job of labeling their conventional vs. Organic ingredients. I would be satisfied if I can see clearly what items are conventional so I that I can avoid them if I don't like it. I did appreciate the owner who took the time to split my children's bagel with half almond and peanut butter and made sure they don't touch each other (for my one peanut allergy child). GAH! Velvet Yogurt was was immensely better when it was not associated with Active Culture. I abhor this establishment. The yogurt has become a terrible consistency. The service is deplorable. The staff are rude and do not care for their duties in a timely fashion. There are two services at this eatery: self serve yogurt and prepared food/juice. There should be two lines! With two cashiers! Because of the ill concieved checkout method you are left waiting too long, and being overlooked by gaggles of teenage girls. Get it together people! read more

This is my 3rd time here and it is epic. I'm kind of opposed to any restaurant that has a mission state my and goes out of its way to say how good for you and Ecofriendly it is (see: Natural Foods Cafe, Aliso Viejo), but this place is the real deal. It's small, friendly, not pompous, priced right, and above all delicious. The Grassroots Burger is seriously better than In n Out of you get it with cheddar cheese, I am not kidding you. I used to be an active culture regular, but recently I haven't been in as much for multiple reasons. I am so so impressed by one of the employees tonight. Caree (spell check?) was so welcoming and warm to all the guests and her co-workers. I don't believe she is a manager, but this girl works hard and is the best employee this restaurant has. She was very factual and knew the answers to all my questions. She recommended a great dish to me and others who thoroughly enjoyed their meals. She gave me a sample. She cleared my plates and brought guests utensils, which is a known "do it yourself thing." Caree also offered smoothie samples to myself and another table, which was so sweet! She seemed so casual about her great service, but I think somebody should know that her attitude is going to be what brings me back in. Thank you, Caree!!! read more

We did not see any of their workers using gloves to prepare our food. The girl who made our acai bowl was also the only person handling the cash register. I saw her grab our banana slices by her bare hands, then proceed back to the cash register to ring up another customer. It's disgusting to think that the same hands preparing our food are also touching money and other unsanitary things in the store. As a place that prides themselves in healthy eating, cleanliness should be at the top of their priority list. This was disgusting. We will not be back. read more

Really liked going here. Was always impressed with how nice everyone was and the good food. Until last week, my daughter left her purse in there that had maybe 15 dollars in there and her iPhone 5s. When I called, I asked the girl on the phone if they found her purse with a iPhone inside. She said yes. Then had my daughters dad go pick it up. When he went in, they had the purse for him but the iPhone and money was not In there. If you've ever been to active culture , you know that they clean the table immediately after you get up from the table. Meaning the person who cleaned our table probably found the bag with the phone and the money inside. I know this is my daughters fault for leaving her bags and that active culture is not responsible for losing items. But the fact that they had her bag, but the phone and the money was not inside is a little suspicious. Also when my daughters dad asked what may have happened to the phone and money They asked in return "why did you wait a week to call to see if we had it" I didn't realize there was a time limit on holding someone's things before it's ok to take it. Such as a phone or someone's money. Here let me take the things inside but here's the purse back. Thanks guys. ! Been in the service industry for many many years and have held on to people's stuff for longer than a week. Active culture, you should definitely take a closer look at your staff.
