I saw George + Kin's Diner on Instagram, and since my birthday was just around the corner, I decided to check it out. Upon arrival, you see menus outside on a rack and inside on the counter. You place your order as you enter, and then you are seated with the option of sitting indoors or outdoors. I initially tried to order the special: the Salmon Benedict. The young lady at the counter said, "Okay, let me check to see if we have it." Wait, WHAT? They open at 8:00 AM and we arrived at 10:15 AM, yet they were already out of the special? SMH. I was highly disappointed. Worse yet, the special was still listed on the board when we left!Since they were out, I ordered the fresh corn griddle cakes with sweet and spicy butter, a side of Nueske's smoked bacon, and coffee. I have no complaints about my food--it was delicious. However, the service was lacking (2 stars). No single person seemed assigned to our table. While our food arrived in a timely manner, no one checked in to see if we needed a coffee refill. Not once! We finally had to catch a server's attention after waiting for about 30 minutes. The bathroom situation was even worse (0 stars). It smelled like someone had mopped the floor with a dirty mop, leaving a terrible odor. Considering they open at 8:00 AM, either it wasn't cleaned from the night before, the mop was filthy, or they just skipped cleaning it altogether. This restaurant is so cute, I love the color scheme and decor. Very old school cottage core feel. This was my first time trying it since they've opened. Before I ordered, a table near me was on their way out and they left over half of their eggs Benedict and a good amount of hash browns untouched. I was shocked they didn't take it with them because it was so much food. After ordering my own eggs Benedict I realized why. I ordered the prime rib Benedict, the flavor was completely off from what eggs Benedict's typically are. I chalked it up to the avocado sauce and what looked like cheese. It was extremely citrusy. I'm sure it would have been delicious on something other than a Benedict that already has hollandaise on it. I ate one poached egg and all of the prime rib because it's what I chose to order and I was not going to send it back, but I really did not like it. The prime rib wasn't great, the piece of meat itself was flavorless and over cooked. The hashbrowns were good. I also ordered the "morning toast" which I thought was a morning muffin type of thing made in a bread pan (I saw this dish on someone's table) but it was actually just 1.5 pieces of toast..... that was my bad. But it was still disappointing that the server wouldn't inform me "by the way you already get toast with your Benedict, oh and the Benedict is also on that same toast!" Super lame to assume I, a single person would want or need 5 large pieces of toast. As a server myself, I would have informed the guest. The indoor space has 12 tables and there were 5-6 tables full in the time I was there so it wasn't very busy but I was never checked in on to ask how the meal was or if I needed anything else. Food & service are the main reason for my 3 star review. I would give the ambiance alone 5 stars if I could! Brunch is my absolute favorite time to go to a restaurant but I probably won't be back for brunch here. Maybe I'll try lunch or dinner in the future. read more

Swung by George + Kin's for a quick lunch/snack between wine tastings to share with some friends. We placed an order on the app and it was ready for pickup at the estimated time! Service is great and friendly and the vibes inside are super cozy and like having dinner at a grandparent's home - super welcoming and warm! We tried the chicken katsu sandwich - nice thick airy milk bread with a sourdough tanginess, a generously sized chicken which wasn't dry and plenty of tasty crunchy slaw! We loved the slaw and I'm so glad we got a side of it too, super fresh, and not too heavy or oversauced. The fries - still perfectly hot, cooked fluffy inside and crisp outside with a good tallow beefy flavor! Last but not least, we grabbed a slice of Dutch apple pie - HUGe portion, and super heart with great, not tok thin or mushy slices of apple inside. It would be perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but also we were already so full! My friend took me here for breakfast and it was so good! The portions were big and tasted great. I had the pancakes and couldn't finish them. They are thick and fluffy! Tried this new spot for brunch for the first time and we enjoyed it. Plenty of parking in the lot. When you walk in know what you'd like to order because you place your order first and pay before you are seated. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We were not prepared so we ordered the first two items and sat,then they have a menu you can scan and order from your table. We ordered their house buttermilk pancake with maple syrup this was delicous and fluffy,chicken parm was amazing,saucy and cheesy and the zucchini that comes with was so good and lastly we ordered Benny's benedict with bacon and this was ok. Delicious food, reasonable prices, and wonderful service. We came in for their prime rib dinner since our whole family loves prime rib and their specials on Sundays are a huge steal! Comes with a side salad and baked potato. Our prime rib came out cooked perfectly and was soaked in Au jus sauce which we appreciate so much since we usually would have to ask for extra on the side at other restaurants. Our meal even included ice cream which was so a nice touch. The restaurant is super cute and casual, definitely giving neighborhood diner vibe. You order ahead and seat yourself. We were excited for this place and saw a long line outside. As I stood in line I looked up Yelp reviews and had second thoughts. I consulted with my friends but a lady in line in front of us said she was a regular and enjoyed the eggs Benedict so we decided to stay and try it. The line is long because you order at the front and then you sit down. There's a good amount of indoor seating and they also offer outside shaded seating. The vibes inside are definitely old school diner/someone's house. They also have a section of games and activities you can borrow to entertain the kids. After you are seated, the service is non existent. We had to waive down a server running around for a few things. They also forgot to deliver our cinnamon bun and it was cold when we received it. So that was a let down. Benny's Benedict (one order with sausage and one order with bacon) 3/5: they serve them on these huge plates and the hasbrown portion already seemed like it was subpar as is. The hollandaise sauce was more on the tangy side. The sausage had good seasoning and was thick. The Farmer Breakfast 4/5: Same as above. We really enjoyed the sausage patties. Fresh Corn + Scallion Omelet 3/5: Wished the scallion had been mixed into the omelet instead of being a topping. Loaded Baked Idaho Potato 4/5: I ordered it without chives but they ended up including them so it ruined the overall experience for me but this was probably my favorite thing we ordered. It was LOADED and the thick crispy bacon elevated it. Big Apple "XL" Cinnamon Bun 3/5: We really loved the apple included in this, but couldn't get past the fact it was cold because it had been sitting on the kitchen window. All the icing was little too overwhelming as well. There wasn't a good bun to icing ratio. It is definitely a shareable bun. Prices were reasonable for Napa. Let me begin by saying I absolutely LOVED Heritage Eats. It was my go-to spot for years for a tasty, well-priced meal when in Napa. It became my pre-show dinner spot when in town for theatre. I loved the variety of choices/cuisines on the menu. I loved the dishes being prepared right in front of you. I loved the staff and the entire vibe of the place. I last visited it right before it closed to find just about everything different. Table service instead of the hot brau approach. A more "formal" than "casual" dining environment. Minimal staff. Minimum "vibe". About a week after that visit their closure was announced. I was disappointed, but not surprised. Then it was announced it would replaced by a "diner"-like establishment by the same proprietors. I had hope. I gave it some time to settle in and then headed in for another pre-theatre meal. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. To begin with, they've gone with the QR code method of ordering, which I loathe. I want to talk to a human being about the menu and my options. I also want to know that my order has been taken, which I began to doubt after nothing had been brought to my table after 30 minutes. Which is also how long it took for anyone to check in with me. They apologized and indicated it should be out any moment. I ordered the "Benny's Benedict" (poached eggs, English muffin, hash browns, toast) figuring it would be a fairly quick dish to prepare. Nope. My disappointment continued with its arrival. After savoring the many flavors of Heritage Eats, the blandness of this dish surprised me. The eggs were swimming in the least flavorful hollandaise sauce I've ever sampled that absolutely drowned the eggs. The hash browns lacked seasoning (or were too "well-done" to taste any) and the toast was dense and flavorless even while minimally buttered. I think the picture I took of the dish captures its blandness. A very disappointing return to the space. And no vibe whatsoever. read more

We came here for lunch on a week day. We were seated immediately. There restaurant was pretty full so we got lucky. I ordered the chicken sandwich and Cinnabon to share with my friend. Went 2 times in one day since there were so many items on the menu that looked delicious! We love an all day breakfast! It was quite busy (as we went on a Saturday), but they have both indoor and outdoor seating so we didn't worry too much about figuring out where to sit. My foodie friend read about George + Kin's Diner in Napa in SF Eater and asked if I wanted to go on a weekday. I'm always game so we Ubered an hour North to try George + Kin's. Decor: amazing. Ambiance: bright, airy, cute, slightly kitschy but not tacky. Welcoming. Like a hug. There's also quite a bit of outdoor seating. Service: wonderful. Helpful. Kind. Refilled my water. Loved my friend's dog (the cutest, most well-behaved pom.) They brought him out a clean water bowl! Food: My expectations were high and I felt the food was only good, not great. The high expectations were not met. Portions were large. The fresh house-made carrot juice was very good. I enjoyed my fresh corn and scallion omelette and added on sausage. My friend enjoyed her Farmers' Breakfast but it felt like slightly elevated diner food. However, that is kind-of the point! There's some Japanese-American-inspired touches, but they're subtle. Also had the basic eggs, bacon sausage, toast and freshly squeezed orange juice. My bestie and I decided to have a breakfast date here after seeing an IG reel that put George and Kin on our radar. We purposely came early on a Saturday morning, and I'm glad we did because within 15-20 minutes of arriving, a line had already formed outside. One thing to know is that you order first before being seated, which likely contributes to the wait. There seems to be a decent amount of seating inside, along with a similar amount of outdoor seating, which would probably be lovely on a beautiful morning. I ordered the Farmer's Breakfast with poached eggs and bacon, and since my bestie wanted a pancake, it just made sense to order the Big Morning. Unfortunately, the poached eggs were a miss for both of us. It wasn't until we broke into the yolks that we realized the eggs hadn't been blotted after poaching, leaving a pool of water underneath. As fellow egg lovers, watching that rich yolk mix with water and lose all its magic was a little heartbreaking. The bacon, however, was fantastic. Thick-cut, flavorful, and cooked with a great texture. Definitely the star of the plate. The sausage patties didn't look particularly appetizing, and my bestie only ate about a third, which told me everything I needed to know. The house-made bread gave me that familiar Vallejo spot vibe -- IYKYK. But this wasn't bad, but it also wasn't memorable enough for me to finish, and that's saying something because I love bread. The pancake with bananas and candied walnuts were thicker than your usual pancakes. Not overly thick, but not overly fluffy. My bestie seemed to enjoy it, which is probably a better endorsement than anything I can say. Looking through the rest of the menu, nothing really jumped out that would make us rush back for lunch or dinner. Napa has no shortage of great places to eat, so this may not make it into our regular rotation. That said, give it a try for yourself. Staff seemed busy so the atmosphere did not feel so welcoming. Food was good... Like an elevated American breakfast. We ordered the famous French Toast and true, it was huge. It tasted strongly of cinammon, bread was soft and fluffly but since it is too thick, the egg mixture didn't soak all the way through. Honestly, I would prefer their pancake. Benny's Benedict-- sausage patty was good, tasted homemade. I like how the egg was cooked, perfectly runny. Hollandaise was on the sour, tangy side. We visited George and Kin's diner on our first day in Napa and had to go back again before we left! The food was made from the freshest ingredients with the greatest attention to detail. Our server, Andrew, was always smiling and gracious and made sure we had everything we needed. And no review of George and Kin's diner would be complete without a report on the most amazing cinnamon rolls you'll ever find! The fresh made bread in the cinnamon rolls, drawn from the family recipe, makes these rolls moist and exceptional. A must have! We had the Benedict, the Cheese omelette and a fresh fruit bowl. The poached eggs were perfect on my Benedict but wish they had a ham option. The omelette was very well made. The toast is ok-should have jam available. The Big George breakfast looks like a Dennys Grand Slam redux but wish it had an "all bacon" option. The tender prime rib, perfectly poached eggs, rich hollandaise sauce, on top of the fluffy soft milk bread rounds was delicious! I really wanted to like this place because the concept has potential. It seems like they're going for a modern diner experience, but unfortunately, the overall execution just wasn't there during my visit. The service was one of the biggest disappointments. We often had to flag someone down whenever we needed something, and there were very few check-ins throughout the meal. What surprised me even more was that some of the staff didn't seem very knowledgeable about the menu. As a chef, that's something I take seriously. If guests have questions about the food, the staff should be able to confidently explain what they're serving. As for the food, most of the dishes were pretty mediocre. Nothing was particularly bad, but very little stood out or made me want to come back for it. The one exception was the French toast it was easily the best thing we ordered and the only dish that really impressed me. Overall, there is a lot of room for improvement, both in service and in the kitchen. Napa is a competitive food destination, and guests have high expectations. They open at 8am and we got there about 20 after 8 and the line was out the door, probably cause it's new but the wait was about 20 minutes to place order, this is one of those order first and sit down after places. Ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, banana walnut pancakes and the kids breakfast. I underestimated how fluffy these pancakes would be, my fault I didn't notice the picture on the menu advertising them cause they were big! I will say though that the chocolate chip pancakes have an up charge of $2 and they had about ten chocolate chips on them (no chocolate chips inside) so that was disappointing. The banana walnut pancakes were good but the caramelized walnuts did have a bit of a burnt caramel taste. The kids breakfast was good, my son shared some of his food with me and the eggs wee fluffy and hash brown was perfectly crispy. Staff were friendly, and I got refills on my coffee two times during our visit. All in all I would try again and maybe just try other options. read more

We finally made it to the new George + Kin's Diner (the old Heritage Eats location), and wow... it completely exceeded our expectations! We ordered the Chicken Parm, Carbonara made with udon noodles, and the tallow fries. I have to admit, I was skeptical. It's hard to beat a really good Carbonara, and a perfectly executed Chicken Parm takes so much time and care. Every single bite blew us away. The flavors, the quality, and the creativity were incredible. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and give it a try. It's officially on our "can't wait to go back" list! Hooked ! Japanese fusion Diner but only in the best details. Had the burger and fries -so homemade tasting! Sandwiches like japanese egg salad uses japanese kewpie mayo too! Very home made tasting and garnished with japanese pickled vegetables on the side. . Breakfast omeletes are standard and served with japanese milk bread that they also sell pre-order 1/2 or whole loaf to go. The pancakes and french toast are the puffy sort. Yum. The desserts are plentiful big and beautiful reminding me of the old Max's Opera Cafe dessert cases. The black and white cookie was recommended and is innovated - NYC Jewish deli style. I was hoping for great French toast, but it was a huge let down. It had a stange sour taste to it and no it was not from the sour dough. Also, it was very dry. The coffee was very bitter and the after taste in my mouth was not good. The customer service was good, but I would not get the French toast ever. read more
