We read all the rave reviews and knew we had to try this place. It sure was crowded with lots of locals too. We waited for about 1/2 hour to be seated. This is the quintessential seafood shack. It reminds me of May places along the New England coast. Atmosphere is 5 stars and food 31/2 stars. The waitstaff were all super friendly and welcoming. We started with a classic New England Clam Chowder. It was rich and creamy with large chunks of potatoes and sizable pieces of clam. They were out of fresh lobster for the evening. I ordered a stack of seafood on an English Muffin (can't remember the name). It was a big wooden skewer plate of mostly fried seafood. I would have ordered differently if I realized it was fried. My favorite bites were the whole belly clams and the crab cake. The small pieces of lobster included were bland (to be fair they told us they didn't have any fresh whole lobsters) and the fried crab was mushy. It came with a side dish and I chose rice. rice. My husband's Cioppino had mussels, shrimp and clams with red sauce over pasta. He licked the plate clean. If I came back I would probably order a whole piece of broiled fish. They are attached to a fish market. It was hopping with customers doing takeout orders the whole time. The food is expensive but what isn't these days.

Back again and yes 5 Freaking Stars! Had the all you can eat fish fry with is crazy because they give you like 5 pieces and fries and I cant eat more than 3! Still a bargain. Clam Chowder again was awesome. EAT AT LOCALLY OWNED BUSINESSES!

Everyone at the table had a taste and wanted more of that dish. One of us had the chicken Marsala with a rich gravy and generous amount of fresh mushrooms. The third dish our table enjoyed was the spaghetti carbonara. They make it two ways and the Italian style was authentic and delicious. This place gives attention to great ingredients. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy--only about six tables, and she had three--yet the service was extremely slow. When we politely asked about the delay, we were told that running food takes priority over all other customer needs, regardless of the table. Her tone was dismissive, and her exact words were along the lines of, "Welp, this comes first--you'll just have to wait," which felt unnecessarily rude. Thankfully, another server stepped in and took over our table. She was kind, attentive, and made the rest of the experience much more pleasant. Had she been our server from the start, this review would have been a very different one. Food: 7/10 Coming from Long Island, we're picky about Italian food--and this was actually pretty solid. The sauce was a bit on the salty side, but flavorful and close to what I make at home. The chicken parm and eggplant were sautéed rather than breaded, and while they had very little cheese, I actually liked the lighter preparation. The penne alla vodka was a standout! Overall: We chalked it up to being a new spot and agreed we'd be open to trying it again. That said, service makes or breaks a first impression, and this place might struggle if that's not addressed.

I'm more attracted to non-fried food so the Grilled Haddock was right up my alley. This time I had that with the side order of baked beans and macaroni salad. Again I was not disappointed. My wife gave me the thumbs up on her food also. So I guess I did good. I read the review about the cleanliness. Let me say this, this place is clean. I'm sure they have food inspectors that come in and if it was not able to pass, it would not be open. On the other review which they gave one star, I don't know when this individual called in an order but must understand that you only have a certain amount of people working, trying to please their customers so you have to give them a break. Obviously they don't want to lose customers. If it is a certain time when people are calling in phone orders and coming inside for take out, things happen. Nobody is perfect unless you walk on water. I have been telling a lot of people about this place. Thank God I'm retired and can go there anytime I want. Now I don't have to make seafood at home anymore. The only thing I'll continue making at home is the baked Salmon. Going two days in a row, I guess I'm trying to make up lost time since he has opened up. I'm good with that for sure!

Our waiter was super attentive and even though it took some time for the food to come out, I think given the quality of everything we ate, it was worth it. I got the raspberry mint mojito cocktail which was delicious and I pinched a sip or two of kid's lemonade made from fresh lemons, perfect level of sweetness. We tried the sweet potato pakoras and lumpia and the trio of house made dips (we liked the green mint-e one best). Everything was tasty, including the sauces that came up with them. Our kids shared the ramen which they split into two large bowls that didn't even look like a split dish given how much it was. My wife got the spare ribs which melted off the bones and had great flavor. The scallop dish I ordered came with six scallops that were a good size and also came with some gnocci, a delicious and unique sauce, and an unusual lobster with veggie type of ceviche salad accoutrement. I have the sense that the menu changes regularly here. The chef/owner came out and greeted us after the meal to ask how everything was and we could honestly respond that it was our best meal of the week. Subsequently we tried to sample many items from their desert menu and again Bastard did not disappoint. Surprisingly the "S'Mores," a more adult take on the kid's classic, was one of our favorites. Given the unique take on a variety of globally inspired dishes and great attention to detail, I would love to try Bastard again the next time I'm in the area.

The wraparound porch is just so nice to sit outside and eat in warm weather. They really utilize the space well, as it's covered in colder months so you can still sit there. I was here for brunch on Mother's Day with reservations and was seated promptly. Due to the holiday, parking was not possible in their lot as it can only take a few cars. No matter, as we were able to park nearby. Their brunch menu had plenty to choose from. You were given these small carrot cake muffins to start, then a choice of starter and main along with dessert, wow! You also had a few cocktails to choose from and you could also swap out for a mocktail too. It was extremely busy but the staff was attentive and handled our orders with ease. Their attention to detail was so nice. For starters we had a strawberry salad, French onion soup, tuna tartare, coconut shrimp. For mains, the burger, salmon Benedict, chicken and waffles and a Polynesian style breakfast bowl with coconut shrimp, sticky rice, pineapple and greens. Lastly on a full tummy we had coffee with chocolate mousse, strawberry shortcake and peanut butter cheesecake. Spending the morning here for brunch was the perfect way to kick off the day. We shared the truffle fries (if you like thousand island dressing you might like the sauce but it does have a kick to it), sushi roll, and a few large beet salads for the table. Salads were good and plentiful and I liked the dressing. I appreciate that Bistro Le Roux offers smaller and larger portions options for each of their mains. As this is not the norm at most American restaurants, it was a a little unclear to us whether that meant they are sharing plates or not but because most other restaurants give you too much food, ordering a small seems like a reasonable strategy unless you are either A) very hungry or B) sharing with a few members of your party. It's not cheap but this could be a good way to try different dishes. I tried the lobster risotto which was super creamy and came with a reasonable (but not overly generous ) amount of fresh lobster. The corn risotto was very good although it seemed like they had this same thing for a number of their menu items. My wife had the avocado crab salad dish, which was ok (my daughter commented that it was needlessly "fancy"), but the crab on its own would have been better. She thought her risotto was a little undercooked. We also got the corn chowder which was ok but lacked any real flavor and didn't feel worth the stomach space. The tomato bisque, a long-time staple of their menu, was much better and we really enjoyed it. For dessert we had the lava cake which was very rich and good. My son had a plain vanilla scoop, which came with his kid's meal (steak and fries).
