I am sad to say that I made my last visit to Adobe Cafe after 20+ years of being a loyal customer who recommended them often. This is thanks to the awful treatment I received from the general manager Justin Zercher this evening. My husband reached in and picked up a tortilla from the warmer and to our surprise, there was a hole in the middle and two bites taken out of the edge of the tortilla. I immediately picked up the warmer with the tortilla and went to the front to seek a manager. A gentleman came up and asked what the issue was and I showed him the tortilla and asked for new ones. He was very apologetic and advised he would bring us some fresh tortillas. Instead, our new tortillas were brought by Justin Zercher. He told us to enjoy and I replied I would as long as there were no bites taken out of these. He told me emphatically and repeatedly that he was certain there were no bites taken from the tortilla. He said they were brittle and that is how they came off the grill and I told him I saw the teeth marks. He proceeded to argue the point and kept repeating there were no bite marks but after each time would say "I'm not trying to argue with you " I asked him to bring me the tortilla and I would show him that there was a hole torn in the middle and two bites taken out of the edge, but he refused to bring me the tortilla and insisted it was just how it was cooked. I quit eating my meal (I had eaten less than a third) because I wasn't comfortable eating food from a kitchen that would send out used food. My husband and mom were not affected by this and continued to enjoy their meal. I waited for our waitress to come over and picked up my late and handed it across the table to her and said "please take this and remove it from my bill as I will not be paying for it". She asked me why and I told her I wasn't going to eat food from a kitchen that sent out tortillas with a bite out of them. She left and Justin Zercher returned to our table with our bill which did not have my plate removed. I looked at the bill and told him he needed to remove it because I wasn't paying for a meal I did not eat. He told me the tortilla wasn't bitten and I had eaten part of my meal so I had to pay for it. I told him there were bite marks and I saw them and I wasn't paying for my plate. And for the record, I agreed with Justin and told him I did not feel as if anyone in the kitchen took bites out of this tortilla and put it in the warmer to serve us. I told him that I felt we got a used warmer off another table. He told me that was impossible and ridiculous and could not have happened. Then his reasoning for not giving me a refund was that "you shoved your plate in my servers face". He then told me he would split the difference and I refused. I told him the bite marks were there and I would be happy to show them to him but he refused to bring the tortilla back. He then said, "do you really want it because I'll go get it." I told him I did want it so I could show it to him. He did bring it and again doubled down that theses were not bites, just the way brittle tortillas cook. I took a picture at this point which I am posting, so you be the judge. He walked away and returned with my check with my plate removed. I was very frustrated because I did not feel my request was unreasonable. All I asked for was for my plate of food which I did not get to eat and enjoy after the tortilla incident be removed. I had every expectation to pay for all the other food and drinks at the table. Had Justin Zercher just stayed away from our table I would not be writing this review and more importantly, I would still be a loyal Adobe customer. Mistakes happen in every industry, it's all about how you handle them that determines whether or not a customer will overlook it and give you another chance. Justin Zercher made it very clear that he does not value me as a customer. Edited to add that most people seeing the picture all agree this is not bite marks but indeed caused by the cooking process. While I am relieved to hear that I was not served used tortillas, I am keeping the 1 star rating due to how poorly this was handled by the manager. read more

Since my last review 6 months ago, I have been continually satisfied with the food quality at Adobe. I love the carnitas, moist, tender, and flavored perfectly, and I love the fajitas (shrimp, beef, and chicken). The shrimp they use here for all the dishes are huge, fresh, and grilled just right. Their tortilla soup is a welcomed necessity in the winter. Adobe has refreshed their menu and now has many more True Mexican dishes instead of Tex Mex. Fantastic Tacos, Enchiladas, and Mole! Adobe Café exceeded all expectations! The tacos were packed with flavor, the enchiladas were perfectly seasoned and smothered in delicious sauce, and the mole was rich, complex, and absolutely outstanding. The portions were generous, and every bite was a perfect balance of authentic spices and fresh ingredients. We recently moved to New Braunfels and love Mexican food. After trying several other Mexican restaurants, we found Adobe Cafe! We eat there very frequently and the food, service, and value is fantastic. We dine out 2-3 per week and have found the most consistent food quality and service in this area has been Adobe every time!! The management is hands on and that always is a positive thing in a restaurant and goes a long way to keeping it's staff focused. Overall we enjoy the food, ambiance, and service at the Adobe Cafe Tex Mex Cocina and the Adobe Verde. As a local, it is nice to take friends and out of town guests to a place where the food is good and the experience is too. I will say the last time I ordered meals to go, the girl who answered the phone seemed distracted, and I had to go over the order more than once. It was correct when I picked it up. The Adobie is a great place to take a date or even your family. It is always clean and the wait staff is to perfection. The food is most yummy. I took my own flowers in to put on the table for Valentines Day and they were most accommodating. I love this Restaurant, you should try it too! read more

I visit Adobe often and have never had a complaint of any kind. They have all my favorites, the entire staff is very friendly, service is prompt, no "hovering", but attentive, prices are reasonable. Love the thin fresh and crispy chips and the salsa. Always dependable. read more
