I had just come from the hardware store, where they explained what I needed to get my snowblower working, but I hadn't written it down. I explained to Rick what I was trying to accomplish, and he knew exactly what I needed--it was the same product the hardware store had recommended. He asked if I had mixed oil and a few other questions before I made my purchase for $9.49 (a much better option than a $300 tune-up!). I came here to buy a car battery and was pleasantly surprised that they install it for free, which was a huge plus. Unfortunately, the customer service wasn't as positive. The employees seemed unhappy to be there, and the person who installed my battery didn't seem very approachable. After the installation, I gave him a generous tip, and he only mumbled a quiet "thanks" without much acknowledgment. I appreciate the free installation, but a friendlier attitude would have made the experience much better. If you know exactly what part you need, this store should be sufficient. However, if you are going in asking for what part you need, I highly recommend steering clear. Employees are not knowledgeable and recommend incorrect parts. I was given spark plugs that do not fit the specs of my engine. Went to return them and was almost given a second set of incorrect spark plugs. Definitely do your own research first. read more

I contacted Advance Auto Parts about a battery we bought two years and one month ago, which our mechanic said wouldn't last the winter. They assured me they'd test it and exchange if needed. However, when my 18-year-old daughter brought the car in, they did not test it, just told her it was out of warranty. When I followed up, they were rude and blamed the battery quality. Stopped in yesterday with a simple request, yet one that needed a bit of footwork to complete. A simple lug nut for a trailer. Nate helped me out, we walked over to a display and confirmed the size, while he reviewed the inventory on the floor and then back to shelves behind the counters, I walked the aisles. Actually found a package of four just as he walked out with the single lug nut. I ended up buying the package of four (always good to have a back up or two). Not a huge sale, but great service, ended up buying $50+ in detailing supplies while I was there... to give it perspective, earlier in the day I'd been closer to the Glenview NAPA shop and stopped in, the gal at the counter wouldn't even take a look at the lug nut, just said she couldn't (wouldn't) help me. For a modest-sized store, they always seem to have what I need at very reasonable prices. I'm generally one of those folks who order parts from RockAuto, but I do hit a local Advance or AutoZone when I need something quick (I've since stopped going to the local-ish Pep Boys, as I've twice now gotten an item that was clearly used or returned). This particular Advance Auto Parts location is the closest to me, is pretty convenient (they have lots of parking in the East lot), and has always had what I needed in stock (it helps I drive a VERY common vehicle). I always receive good customer service, though I generally always know what I need or have ordered the item online for pickup already - easy peasy. I've only every come here once when there was other customers in the store, and they were able to keep up just fine. Prices are very reasonable, and sometimes even beats Walmart and Rock Auto (nobody in the area seems to have antifreeze/coolant for less). It's pretty no-frills, with no wasted space. I generally prefer coming here when I need a part, as opposed to a larger super-store style parts shop. This Advance Auto Parts location is my first stop when I need something right away, and I'll at least check them first before ordering from an online warehouse. If they're within a few dollars, I'll buy from this Advance instead. read more

As advertised I had the check engine light come on in my car and I went in the store and told Hector the store manager that my engine light came on and he came out to my car and did a diagnostic check as to why the light came on which was very useful to me and wouldn't even take tip Have also bought wipers at this location and they are always happy to help with the installation. My turn signal burned out and I called the dealership and they wanted $70 to change it. I went to "Advanced Auto Parts" in downtown Northbrook and bought the bulb for $4. I told the store manager, that I also needed a specific socket wrench to take the light bulb cover off. Instead of having me buy the wrench, he ended up bringing the stores' socket wrench out to the parking lot where he changed the bulb for me (for free!) Just thought I'd pass this along. Decent auto parts shop. I just came in for some windshield wipers. They seem to have a good selection of everything else you could need, though. The guys behind the counter or super nice, and looked up the exact wipers I needed. They also offered to go install them on my car in the parking lot, despite the fact that it was below freezing outside. I didn't take them up on theoffer, since wipers are pretty basic, but it was great customer service of them to offer! read more

Wow. I rarely write negative reviews but I went up to the two guys at the cashiers 4 different times inquiring about what windshield wiper blades I need for my car. Instead of walking over to the aisle to show me anything or give any assistance they gave me vague useless answers before rudely turning away to the back aisles . (You diddnt answer my questions at all come back wtf) After standing in the store trying to google information on my phone I settled on a brand. Wanting to get out of there, my last inquiry was about the difference between the bosch letters (a,b, oe). The guy said "it's just the different sides of the car but they really don't matter they are basically the same". Nope. Wrong rear wiper. Now I have to return what should have been an easily informed transaction. (Won't be exchanging I'll go somewhere else). Terribly rude "don't give a f" attitude. Also selling beat up, re-stapled returned halogen headlamp bulbs at full price (Nobodys gonna trust that nobodys touched the bulbs. Which causes them to explode.) Y'all got problems. read more

Bought a part online and went to the store to pick it up. The website indicates that items will be available in 30 minutes after ordering. Got to the store about an hour later and they had to go find the part. I sign for it and then, just to make sure, look inside the box. It's the wrong part. I explain to the salesperson that it's not the right one. He looks online and, sure enough, the picture for the part matches what I need and doesn't match the contents of the box. I ask if he can exchange - there are no more in the store, but I can order one made by another company for 2.5 times what this one cost and it will arrive in three days. I ask if I can return the item. After attempting to do so, the salesperson tells me that the system won't let me return it until tomorrow - "it has to be in the system for 24 hours, first." Can he return it for me tomorrow and just credit my card? No - I have to come into the store personally to do it. I called the online help desk - they tell me the system just needed a couple minutes. Now, I have no idea who was telling me the truth, but I still have to wait a day and then drive back to the store to make the return. Not happy at all that their screw-up on the part wasted my time and will waste it again for me to return it. read more
