My husband and I decided to visit this Diner today with our Granddaughter. The Diner reminds me of a place we frequent in Arizona, so we were a little nostalgic. About the food.......portions are large. My husband had a skillet, I had an omelet, and our granddaughter had French toast snd bacon. My husband very much enjoyed his skillet with biscuits, eggs, home fries, sausage, and gravy. My cheese omelet was fluffy and had cheese that was actually melted and the side of potatoes was great. My granddaughter loved her French toast. It was eggy and thick. They had used Texas Toast. Patsy was our waitress. She said she had been there for 2 weeks. She was an excellent waitress. She was so very nice and pleasant even though she was handling the dining room by herself. Definite asset to this Diner. Will definitely return when we are back this way. Staff is very nice. Got seated quickly. Ordered right away. Then watched as everyone around us (2 people) got seated, ordered, received their food and ate. From the time of order until we left was 52 minutes. I know that because the waitress said it and said she didn't blame us for leaving. We were headed to Breakfast and Burgers but when we arrived the line was out the door so we went to turn for home. Then just a few feet away the hubbs saw a small sign with flashing lights that said Affton Diner. We took a chance and so glad we did!! Pros: Fresh fast breakfast Attentive and friendly service (very kind and gracious with our toddler) Peachy French Toast (Amazing warm cinnamon peachy goodness....perfect crunchy buttery crust with soft center) Large kids meal portions Cons: No changing table in bathroom Jelly on table only apple butter packages. Overall decent food. Some peculiarities though, there's like 10+ security cameras in the dining room, each table has a camera about pointed at it. Guy in the kitchen was extremely loud and was having multiple shitters and screaming at the kids working. This made the place a buzzkill. read more

Affton diner is my favorite place to eat! We love Jonathan and his restaurant. The food is fantastic. He has the BEST French toast EVER!!

We decided to try this place out thanks to Yelp and what a pleasant surprise. As others have said, it's not overly fancy but good food and good value. Two of us had the Philly steak which was very good, another had the burger and was surprised at the large portion of burger and the amount of extras of onion, lettuce and tomato. My son had the chicken fingers and gave them two thumbs up. The lemonade was extremely sweet, even according to him. The fries were also good as they were more like potato wedges. All in all a great little diner I never would have thought to go in if it weren't for Yelp. So glad we found it! read more

I'm not saying he can't critique or criticize, but he was straight up verbally abusive. Completely uncalled for. One man operation : The minute we walked in the one man team was friendly and welcomed us. The reason I say one man team he waited tables , cooked , cleaned up, collected the cash.. When I first walked in I noticed dishes setting on the table and it looked like they were all dirty dishes from the last customers, but they were all clean ... the only problem we seen with this is the coffee mugs all stand up right and to us that means if the people before you sneeze in them or kids play with them guess who gets the dirty coffee mug?..... YOU.... The food is pretty good, no complaints and if you never been here stop in and give them a try. I don't see us going back because nothing jumped out at us that would make us want to come back , to many restaurants close by with much better food.. When going to a diner, you must set your expectations a bar or two lower to start. However, upon walking in the place was really dirty. The waiting bench was torn. We had our 1yr old with us and his hands and knees were black when we left. The staff was friendly, he greeted us, took our to go order and even got some chocolate milk out for our son. I especially liked that he opened and showed us our food when it came out. The food was pretty darn good. It was a bit on the greasy side, but was a good quantity for a great price. I would get take out from here again, but prob wouldn't eat here. I don't need a 5 star restaurant, but I need a place to be clean. read more

We decided to try this place as our annual try something new day. We were met with a rude hostess who made it very clear she was ready to leave. We sit down and order our food. We were watching the man in kitchen cook and saw him touch the food with his bare hands and then lick his fingers. He then proceeds to touch another piece of our food. Instantly makes our stomachs turn. Food comes out and it is all cold and what we braved to eat was less than appetizing. Always put you on hold on Togo orders for 5 plus minutes. Then when you go to pickup your order they make you wait and help multiple other people even though they just greeted me the worst part is they automatically added a $5 tip without telling you when the service was terrible. I've probably driven by this place 10 times and not realized it was open. Glad I stopped in! I needed a quick lunch and I got it. The place is very plainly decorated but I wouldn't expect too much considering it's in a strip mall. The diner is clean and the service is prompt and friendly. I ordered a BLT and it came out in a timely fashion with a side order of fries included all for under $7. The plus was that it was very tasty as are the fries. If that's not a reason to sit down and enjoy your lunch once in a while I don't know what is. I will be back for further review. read more

My husband and I live in the area and we decided to try the Affton Diner. It took a while to get seated. We ordered our breakfast (pancakes for him and eggs and sausage for me). The portions were huge and the taste was average. Throughout the entire meal we could hear the cook yelling at the other workers. It made for an uncomfortable experience. We did figure out later that the cook is the owner which makes the behavior even worse. I doubt I will go back. read more

Ordered take out today. Biscuit was ok but gravy was bland and barely warm. Got an omelette and home fries both were overcooked and really brown with lots of burnt pieces. Since I only have 30 minutes for lunch I didn't bother to call and ask for a replacement. Also know if you order to go they automatically charge you 18% gratuity on your bill. I do usually tip but that's a bit much for carry out. The server was decent when I picked up but food is underwhelming so I won't return. read more

This was a great stop for breakfast. The omeletes were huge and worth every penny. The other person in my party enjoyed a breakfast skillet that would have fed multiple people. All at an extremely affordable price. The potatoes were hand cut and cooked perfectly. I had onions added to mine, but they offer more additions if you like. The restaurant is small, but the portion are not! The servers were very nice the whole time, and we even got to meet the person I assume was the owner, who came out after cooking our meal to ensure everything was great. Me and my husband brought our 3 children for a breakfast for lunch meal. We came at 2pm and were the only customers besides a group of elderly woman drinking coffee. EVERYTHING WAS HORRIBLE. From the start, coffee taste burnt but was cold. All the food was rubber tasting and not actually hot but just warm. The pancakes were so over cooked they were tough and couldn't even cut them. We sent them back just to get pancakes that were completely raw inside. If it could be worse we found FLIES in 3/5 plates. One cooked in my sons pancakes, 2 in my sons eggs. After sending back all the food and asking to speak to the owner, we were told he was not in nor a manager and was given a $77 bill. We paid and left and will NEVER return. How outrageous that we had to spend over $80 for food we didn't even get to eat. DO NOT EAT HERE! read more

How can a place screw up breakfast? Affton Diner accomplished that task perfectly. I ordered the country girl breakfast which was two eggs (over easy), bacon well done, and pancakes. Seems easy enough, but it wasn't. The food came out and to my horror, the cook put the eggs on top of the pancakes! Who does that????? I thought, that I could just move the eggs off the top, but as soon as I tried to do that, the egg yokes busted and I was left with a mess of egg yokes on top of the pancakes!. I asked the server why they cook did this and she said when he gets in a hurry he just puts everything on one plate. WHAT?!?!? Just awful!!! Will never go back. For a small-town diner, Affton Diner wins! I was just in here today, and had an amazing meal with my family. I've been eating at Affton Diner for about 3 years, if you're not familar with Affton and the Bevo Mill area, a large percentage of the population is Bosnian. Affton Diner, is too is owned by Bosnians (I believe so) and who knows how to make better cevapi and doner than the Bosnians! I'm not Bosnian, but I lived there for a few years, and I can vouch that the food here is just as awesome. It's definitely a small location, but it's often not too busy on the inside, as most of the customers do carry-out because they live close by. It's super clean, and there's also a little Bosnian store to the side so you can buy random groceries here and there. It's owned by an older lady, who is superrr nice. Defiitely worth checking out if you want some great cevapi, doner, or other bosnian foods. ALSO --- Just caught this! The review by Linda W, MUST be wrong, or must be a different affton diner (I believe the old eat rite on lindbergh also renamed itself to affton diner) I think this for a few reasons: The owner is an older woman, and the staff is nothing short of incredibly nice, helpful, studious, and quick. Nor, is there a wait to sit down at a table.. If you walk into this place and just stand there they're going to look at you funny because it's obviously a sit-yourself- type of diner. [as is any diner, right?] The owner also does most of the cooking / serving and everything, i think her relatives may help out from time to time too.
