This place has great food and very friendly staff. The atmosphere isn't bad either. The only reason I gave them two stars is because the last two times my significant other and I received drinks with some sort of film and particles floating at the top. You can see it on the ice too, it's frothy. We thought maybe it was the ice so we asked for no ice and it was still there, for both water and soda. I don't know if it's how they wash their dishes or if something is growing in their water lines, but it definitely makes you lose your appetite. I will update this review if they fix it, but until then I am keeping my distance. read more

Excellent!!! I found this little place driving by and I love it! Just walking in the server was so kind and explained the menu to us. They customize everything. The food was so good and the portions were huge. I think what I liked most was how fresh the veggies and coffee were. It's such a family atmosphere and everyone was just happy to be there. That says a lot about the ownership. My favorite was the bisquits and gravy! I keep going back and they're consistent every time. read more

I have been here twice and I have to say, this place has one fantastic cheeseburger. My wife gets the chicken sandwich and was sure impressed with it as well. They have a very nice twist on potatoes, they have onions and black olives with them and they alone are worth the trip. I think they call them Italian Potatoes, check them out you'll be glad you did. I intend to go back soon and try breakfast, I expect it will be good as well. Typically, we eat at the restaurant next door, Best Breakfast and Burger, for our Sunday breakfast sometimes, but the wait was long, so my husband suggested eating at the Affton Diner instead. Little did we know how much we would later regret not just waiting for a table there. Once inside, we waited for the bus girl to clean two tables before we could be seated. There was another couple standing behind us, and we both waited for five to ten minutes before the table was cleared. The other couple decided not to wait and had already left. Smart move! We sat down and it took another five to ten minutes or more to get two cups of water. When we looked over the menu, we noticed the similarities between it and Best Breakfast and Burger. They both offer a Popeye and Mediterranean Omelet. That's were the similarities ended. After we placed our order, we waited at least 30 minutes or more before getting our food. In the process, the two guys behind us got up and left, after waiting forever to get served. At one point, the manager or owner came out, instructing the poor bus girl to stop clearing tables and to bring water to the other tables. Meanwhile, we could both hear him yelling at his staff in the kitchen. It's a small space, and there's only a flimsy wall dividing the kitchen from the dining area, and we could hear him verbally abuse his staff. When our order came out, my husband's eggs were cooked incorrectly, and my toast was hard and overdone. The server offered to correct it, but my husband did not want to wait, so he said it was fine and he would just eat the order as is. After getting a fresh batch of toast, I took a few forkfuls of my "Cheese Farmer Skillet," and the ham tasted like SPAM. The rest of it tasted overcooked. It had a weird, nasty taste that I could not pinpoint or shake. Meanwhile, my husband's sausage was so hard and overcooked that he could barely cut it. The blueberry pancakes were a joke. They were bland, and it looked like someone had just placed a handful of blueberries in the middle of the pancake. The pancake at the bottom was half the size and oddly shaped. Finally, we decided that we couldn't take it any more and requested our bill. We told them that the food tasted awful, after waiting for an hour. The manager/owner came up to the register, asking if we did not like our food, and we told him that it was terrible, and then my husband told him that he also did not like the way he talked to his staff. He said that he was understaffed today, trying to make up excuses for his behavior. Our server along with the bus girl even told us that we should not have to pay for it since we were so dissatisfied after waiting an hour for our food. I agreed! However, my husband was too nice and paid for it anyway. Afterwards, the manager/owner told the server to give us one of his cards, saying the next time breakfast would be on him. We politely refused and told them that we will never be back. We would rather wait an hour for food at Best Breakfast and Burger. Apparently, a server quit there today, forcing the manager/owner to call the bus girl in to act as a semi-server, even though she had no training to do so. All the while, he kept yelling at her and the server, along with probably the cooks in the kitchen. I can see why his employees would be quitting after the verbal abuse. He would yell at the bus girl to not clear tables, then he would yell at her some more to clear them, only shortly before potential customers would walk out because they didn't want to wait indefinitely for a table. We will never be back. Spare yourself the disgusting food, terrible service, and manager/owner who does not know how to treat his staff or customers. If you're in the area, just do yourself a favor and go to Best Breakfast and Burger. Otherwise, you'll end up at QT, getting a big soda and donut holes to wash your mouth of the taste of overcooked, funky tasting, nasty food. It will put you in a foul mood until your next meal. Actually, eating a Pop Tart would have tasted better. read more

I would not recommend AFFTON Diner. Their service was mediocre at best. I ordered an egg white veggie omelette and what came out was undescribable. It was a pile of grease covered veggies and cheese with some scrambled egg whites. When I asked about it they said that was their omelette. I had to turn it away. I then ordered 3 over medium eggs instead. The eggs came out runny, definitely not over medium. Do not go here. read more

We've had several good breakfasts here but not today. The blueberry pancakes had no blueberries in them (there were a few sprinkled on top) and were burned on the bottom. They have just enlarged into the neighboring storefront, so seating is plentiful and comfortable. Food is excellent with oversized portions and reasonable prices. Split orders or take home for another meal. For breakfast, the French toast is among the best with caramelized cinnamon/ sugar. Even better is the La Cochin; French toast with a thick slice of ham. Famous for giant omelettes with generous filling. At lunch and dinner, the patty melt is tremendous with buttery toasted bread, thick and juicy beef patty, onions, and cheese. French fries need some work. They are fresh cut, but could benefit from a double dip cooking method for a crisper texture and better flavor. read more

LOVE THIS DINER! I eat here once a week. I have actually tried everything that is on the menu. I love home cooked food and this is as good as it gets. The service is fast, the food is great. Everytime we bring someone new to the diner, they become regulars as well. The amount of food for the price is awesome. The owner is always friendly and accommodates my special orders. First experience at the Affton Diner...We went on a Sunday morning for a late breakfast and it took us 40+ minutes to get our food. We were seated immediately, but the wait time for our food was much longer than your average breakfast joint. Maybe it was bad luck, but everyone around us that arrived after us got their food first. Our server never checked on us to update us on the situation. If you have someplace to be within the hour, my advice based on my experience would be go to McDonalds and get an egg Mcmuffin to save your time. Love to have breakfast anytime and Affton Diner does it just right! They have excellent omelets cooked fresh with all trimmings you could want. They also have a great cup of coffee which is a wonderful treat anymore since a lot of diners have gone to cheaper brands to save some dollars. First time trying this place, and I'm only writing this review hoping that the owners take notice. First with the bad: their hash browns are terrible. Hidden gem stuck in a tiny strip mall on Gravois. Man, can this guy cook. Wow!! We have lived in Affton for 24 years and drive by this place twice a day. A neighbor told us about their incredible breakfasts. My husband loves to go out for breakfasts on the weekends. But I hate waiting an hour or more at Cracker Barrel, IHOP or Bob Evans. Well, now we will only go here. The food is prepar d to your order, any way you want it. Where else can you get that? No where! The peach French toast is to DIE FOR!! My husband loves everything there. Food is fresh and hot. They give you enormous amounts of food. And it is dirt cheap. Like we can not figure out how the owner makes any $. Other than he works there all the time and cooks himself. A sign of a good restaurant is owner presence. And Affton Diner has it. Lunch and dinner is also good. The service is excellent. Chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans..don't tell Momma, but this place puts hers to shame. Nothing fancy in the decorating department but it is clean and very accommodating. Best kept secret in the area! GREAT breakfast, and a pretty good lunch as well!!

This place is really as good as it gets. The waitress was efficient and friendly. Service was prompt and we received exactly what we requested. I had a griddle breakfast and it was offered with white gravy. I asked if it could be served with brown gravy and the owner/cook made the gravy just for my order. The food portions are generous and extremely tasty. The owner came out of the kitchen and welcomed us to his diner. The prices are more than fair and the diner was neat and clean.
