Agave was incredible tonight! We love this family owned restaurant. Chef/owner Jack is in the house with top notch service and delicious, fresh, well executed dishes. We had the strip steak with mushrooms and spinach and the grilled pork chop with collards and Mac n cheese. The steak was grilled to a perfect medium. Perfectly juicy and tender. The chop was grilled perfectly with a hint of smokiness. I loved the collards they had a hint of sweetness and a hint of spicy. Can't wait to come back to try something else. Loved it! Had the perfect dinner date tonight at Agave! It was a quiet night in the restaurant, understandably due to Covid. Masks are provided for free if you forget yours in the car like we did. When I tell you I had the most delicious piece of salmon... it was moist and seasoned to perfection. The veggies were Mmm good!! The Margarita A1 dessert DELICIOUS and I don't usually do dessert. Guacamole was great as well. The waitress was great, knowledgeable about the menu and specials. Very cozy atmosphere. Valet Parking-- no issues there. Overall great place for a nice date. Wow what an incredible restaurant in Atlanta. The ambiance was so inviting, cute and cozy. We sat on the back patio and enjoyed the sunset while enjoying our delicious meal. I ordered the crawfish pasta and the trout starter. Both were so satisfying. My husband got the shrimp and lobster enchiladas - the chile sauce was so good. Everything here is clearly made with love. The food was tasty. I prefer my guac to be a tad more flavorful and my lamb to be moist when cooked medium. but the overall taste of everything was really good. Ummmmm, I was really looking forward to eating here, as I am from New Mexico now living in Atlanta. I ordered the Santa Fe Blue Corn Enchiladas because it states that it has Hatch Green Chile sauce on it, which is the staple sauce for all New Mexican cuisine. The enchiladas were dry and clearly had no flavor of green chile. Really disappointed in the lack of flavor and green chile. This place is amazing! I am upset at myself that it took me so long to finally leave a review because this was one of the best meals i have had in a very long time. I drive past here every day and finally for Valentine's Day we decided to give it a try. It was packed that night and we were sooo glad we made reservations. We were seated immediately upon check in. I will say the dining area was pretty tight and there was a lot of hustle and bustle going on around us with the wait staff, BUT that didn't ruin our experience one bit. Now on to the food & Drinks... We started with Agave Top Shelf Margarita and the Peachtree Margarita. Let me tell you, if you are looking for good strong drinks, this is your place! These drinks did not disappoint. For food, we started with the Queso Fundito and the Guacamole. I loved the queso. It had a nice kick and meatiness from the chorizo. The guac on the other hand was just okay to me. For the main course I ordered the Grilled Berkshire Pork Chop and it was seasoned and grilled to perfection! The greens were really tasty and the Mac and cheese was really good as well. EVERYTHING was very well seasoned, I cannot stress that enough! My husband ordered the special which was a surf and turf kind of option. It came with beautifully grilled filet mignon which surprisingly came with 2 good size filet pieces, shrimp, asparagus and corn. It was so good! We finished the meal with the strawberry cheesecake and you could tell it was home made. It was delicious. I have not had the pleasure of dining in but I have ordered takeout thru UberEats and I must say it was delicious. Their creative southwestern cuisine is top notch. My go to meal is Agave's Famous Cayenne Fried Chicken. A spicy buttermilk marinated jumbo fried chicken breast, topped with a poblano drizzle served with mashed potatoes & grilled corn. Even though I'm not consuming it immediately because I'm waiting for it to be delivered, it still tastes extremely fresh. The chicken is tender, flavorful and juicy and the poblano drizzle is served on the side for to go orders. It's kind of a spicy green sauce but I love it. The mashed potatoes are always the perfect consistency. The grilled corn is charred just enough but not too much and is sweet. If I could get the corn the way they do the street corn appetizer it would really make this dish over the top. I honestly can't wait to go dine in. I'm sure the atmosphere is wonderful and inviting. I've been seeing the "New Mexican" label attached to Agave recently; it clearly means different things to different people. For several years, the restaurant has occupied a corner of Boulevard SE across from Oakland Cemetery, walking distance from all the fun stuff in Cabbagetown. This is my first visit post-pandemic; I've visited now a total of three times. I used to live in Texas, so the southwest vibe is familiar to me. I would say that if you are merely expecting elevated Tex Mex, your experience will not really line up as predicted. Agave is shooting more for a deep southwest vibe, with the hatch chiles and the corn tortillas and the Spanish mission style decor. Environment is cozy and economical on space, with a nice fire burning in the corner of the dining room. Saturday dinner crowd was packed solid with lively energy. I ordered a Texas margarita, which was generous and salty. I mean this drink was huge, not complaining either. Followed this up with the pulled pork verde (green sauce) enchiladas, and a slice of key lime pie. The enchiladas were served in what I presume to be house corn tortillas, with some great hatch pinto beans. Great quality stuff, all around. The pie also was super limey, my favorite kind. These guys are in my rotation for when the kids can be occupied. Wife and I have had some stellar dates here and have gladly returned multiple times. read more

It was 20 years since I was last at Agave, though I did recall I enjoyed it. Tonight was WAY better than I remembered. Delta, our server, was fantastic. Fun, sweet, accommodating, and provided exemplary service. Watching the other servers I could tell she was in good company. Started with the calamari which really surprised me. Perfectly tender and crispy rings and the dipping sauces were delicious. My partner opted for the scallops which were perfectly cooked accompanied by delicious grits and collards. He was in heaven. I opted for the flat iron steak with mac and cheese and collards. OMG SO FREAKING GOOD!! I could not believe how tender the steak was (which was cooker perfectly medium rare) and the sides did not disappoint. Churro cheesecake rounded out the experience. Well I'll start with the best parts of my experience here. The service was excellent, mac & cheese is awesome (rich & creamy), greens were unique in a good way and their salsa is some of the best I've had in the A. Now for the just ok stuff. My date ordered the stuffed trout and she found it lacking in the flavor department. When our waiter, I think his name was Zach, noticed she wasn't eating he offered for her to try the scallops. That was cool of him and she liked that better. I had their "famous" fried chicken and I liked the texture of the breading, but it was also a little bland for my taste. No spice, heat or kick whatsoever. My meal also came with street corn, but as you can see in my pic, there was no cheese on my corn. I looked a other people's pics and theirs came with cheese. No biggie. I didn't mention it to Zach, but if I did I'm sure he would have made it right. Their drink menu mentions that their margaritas are "award winning". Well I had 2 different ones and the coconut one was the best, but I was not overly impressed. Overall this is a great place for a date. The ambiance is cozy and they have a cool 2 sided fireplace. This was my second time here and it did not disappoint. The way the restaurant is laid out makes each dining area feel super cozy. The spicy fried lobster tail is a must! The breading is nice and crispy without being too thick, and it's really nice to be able to eat a little bit of lobster without dropping $40/$50. We came here recently for a friends dinner. It was my first time. The decor inside is a southwest home. It's done very well. The staff is on top of it from the moment you step in. I ordered the Agave Top Shelf margarita ($12.50) because our waitress said it was award winning. Coming from someone who makes a killer margarita at home, I can agree. It was a great tasting margarita and strong. We ordered some appetizers for the table: Homemade guacamole, Queso fundido, spicy fried lobster tail, and fried calamari. Everything was excelling. The fried lobster was delicious but it was not spicy. For dinner I ordered the Pulled Pork Verde enchiladas ($15.50). I loved every bite. The egg on top was a nice touch. This is an Atlanta gem! Free valet so tip them well as often there maybe only 1 person working. The vibe is lively and fun. Many small groups of friends, some larger parties, but also couples and families. It can get pretty noisy in there so I wouldn't plan a first date there where you'll want to talk and connect. It's also dimly lit, creating a great ambience. While the bar side is a perfect local watering hole do not miss out on the top notch cuisine. Everything I've ever ordered here has been perfectly cooked. The chef is amazing, and I love how they pivoted during the pandemic to offer to go/drive up service. Came here for a work dinner and was not very impressed. We had a variety of appetizers and drinks which were good. The margarita was pretty good but nothing spectacular for the price. Same with the medallions that I got. They were already cold by the time I got them and were a little too dry and tough tasting for me. Mark and I love this restaurant! We recently attended a fundraiser for AwareOne wildlife rescue and Agave donated gift cards for the silent auction. We won several of the silent auctions and this gift card was included. The fact that they support animal charities makes me love this place even more. We reserved a table for 630pm and arrived early to a full house. Valet parking was quick and easy. Service from beginning to end was friendly and attentive. The margaritas were top notch! The ceviche, chips, soup, pasta and enchiladas were all high quality with great flavor. Portion sizes were in line with prices. One of my first Yelp UYE was at Agave. That was a good 9- 10 years ago. Went most recently for their 19th anniversary, and they have a $19 pre-fixed menu running to Oct 13 that has already changed since I was there last week. 19 years in Atlanta, and I still received excellent table service, great food and a strong drink. Great portion size and the waiter turned my margarita into a martini by request. Kinda shocked that a Tito's vodka on the rocks was $10, but that comes with eating out in Atlanta. It was actually more expensive than my margarita/martini Here's hoping they figure out how to get another 19 years of business read more

Before you read my review just know as a person basically born and raised in New Mexico I went to this "New Mexico themed" restaurant with very high expectations. For starters what I did like was that there is valet and it's complementary. Don't forget to tip! I'll tell you what they did nail as "New Mexico themed" was the decorations it straight up looked like my best friends abuelas casita in there, I liked that. We did have a reservation and we got sat right away so that was pretty cool we also were brought chips and salsa and water pretty quickly. What I did notice is the salsa tasted like old El Paso but if you like that, then I guess it won't be a bad thing. Secondly maybe they were busy maybe they weren't, but I specifically remember telling the waiter to ask the bartender to make me a speciality cocktail with Mezcal... He brought back a lime margarita lol. But it was still good. My dinner companion got the $19 anniversary menu and started off with a side salad with grilled artichokes and veggies and lime vinaigrette he tore it up and really liked it. I got the "green chile stew". My conclusion is while it was pretty tasty, that it is not green chile stew at all rather beef stew with a slight hint of green chili. I have to say I've never had green chile stew with chunks of beef, pretty innovative. For my entrée I got the "chicken and green" chili burrito. I found myself searching for green chile on the green chileless plate. Also I noticed there were two types of beans on my plate. One was the crunchy pinto beans on the side and the other were the black beans inside of the burrito. So if you're looking for gas you found it lol. I have to say my burrito was 80% rice and beans and a few pieces of chicken. But the flavor was pretty decent. My dinner companion on the other hand had the lamb lollipops with tomato Serano ground grits and supposed green chili. He loved his meal couldn't get enough. For dessert we shared the fresh strawberry and tequila cream anglaise. It tasted like horchata w/ strawberries it was delicious! All in all while we did enjoy our time at the restaurant. I think this place may be a watered down interpretation of actual New Mexico food for southern people or people who don't like spice or heat. But the food was definitely flavorful. read more

I always start with the queso fundido it so rich and can be filling so don't eat too much of it lol. My entree is always between the medallions, braised short rib, or the Ny Strip Steak. I've been to Agave 3-4 times now and although it's been good each time, I still haven't been blown away. The service is always attentive and love their complimentary salsa and chips, but for some reason I've never had a margarita that I truly enjoyed here. I've tried the Texas, Peachtree, and mango and they just don't jive with me. They have all been really sweet and somewhat bland/mild, where as I like my margaritas sweet, tart, and strong. I had to ask for lime juice this last time or I wouldn't have been able to drink it at all. For food - more specifically apps - I've tried the mussels (delicious, recommend), the calamari (taste fresh but meh), chicken taquitos (great but skinny and you only get 2), the queso fundito (recommend!), and the agave chopped salad (tastes good and healthy!) Entrees: I chose the Barbados and chorizo tacos which is presented like a burrito. It was really tasty and had some surprising spice; the barbacoa was really flavorful and juicy (I can't tell if I tasted a lot of chorizo). I was leaning towards the anejo shrimp but the pictures of it on Yelp looked a little disappointing - very small serving. My friend got the New Mexico burrito w/ stew. He thought the burrito was pretty good but was hard to enjoy because he'd asked for absolutely no beans, and guess what? It had beans. Almost a whole cup after picking them out. We mentioned it to the server and she made an *odd* comment about the kitchen staff not speaking English which is a *weird* way of not taking accountability for her mistake. Also, the beans were missing from my dish, which is why they aren't pictured. All in all, I think we've had our fill of Agave. I do recommend for authentic, interesting cuisine, but picking the right drink and dish will really make or break your experience. read more

Service overall was good (4/5); complementary chips and dip very mediocre (2/5); ceviche appetizer: good and unique, I enjoyed the fried avocado however do not expect traditional ceviche (4/5); flatiron steak entree with Mac n cheese and chipotle mashed potatoes (3/5): Mac n cheese was gritty and the potatoes were flavorless, steak was ok; fish "tacos" with beans and two onion rings (1/5): so so bad, first of all not a taco, it was unseasoned fish wrapped in a quesadilla wrap nothing about it was a taco more like a bad burrito, beans were decent, and the two onion rings were pretty, though not much to enjoy. We grabbed the table right in front of the fireplace and that set the mood for good eating. We ordered 'ritas with chips and salsa to start the night. The entrees included Diablo crawfish pasta and seared scallops for dinner. The pasta was seasoned with love and very flavorful, the salmon was good and seared greatly.
