Ended up here on Friday night date night after our usual pizza spot said they were too busy. And I'm so glad we did! It's a beautiful restaurant and they are definitely taking all the covid precautions. And the staff is so friendly and fun! The food was fantastic and exactly what I expected. The menu is huge so my husband and I ended up sharing a margarita pizza and the pesto gnocchi! Both were delicious and super filling. When we got to the restaurant, we realized it's byob but our waitress said no problem and gave us an extensive wine/beer menu from a neighboring shop. They ended up delivering wine to our table! And then we ordered the chocolate molten lava cake for dessert which was just incredible. If you can't tell, we were having a decadent night and everything was amazing. Ah' Pizz at first glance looks like a typical VPN-certified Napoletana pizzeria. Big wood burning oven, probably built by Stefano Ferrara. Serious pizzaiolo, probably trained by Enzo Coccia. Not stereotypical at all if you're new to these sorts of place. It looks really authentic then. But if you've been around these places a lot, they seem almost like a broken record after awhile. Thankfully the pizza we got was not just the same old pizza napoletana--it was much better. The margherita pizza was a great example of why pizza napoletana is awesome. Pillowy, charred crust, bright fresh tomatoes, good fior di latte, and some good olive oil and basil to complement everything. Could've packed a bit more flavor, but very tasty and put together with care. The Ah'Pizz pizza was basically a margherita with cherry tomatoes added; just like the margherita. I only grabbed a quick bit of the cherry tomatoes, which were very flavorful. The mezzaluna was crazy. Its half margherita pizza with olives, and half calzone with ricotta, roasted red peppers and sausage. The better half was the pizza side; the calzone side was good, but the ok sausage and mediocre peppers held it back. Overall I loved the concept more than the execution, as it showed that Napoletana-style pizzerias can be creative when they want to be. This place was a pleasant surprise overall. They are very serious pizza makers and very passionate about what they do--it shows in their product. My companions were discussing it being on par with Motorino and Keste in the city. I would go a step further and say that it's better than both for various reasons. The biggest is that they are much better are balancing the high quality ingredients so that they meld together beautifully. My Wife and i stopped by here, while we were in Town. Decided to sit at the bar, so we could see the kitchen and the guys making pizza. It was definitely the right move... we were entertained throughout the meal. We ordered the Goat Cheese and Ham croquetts...and also a margherita pizza. Food was fresh and tasted great. They did make a mistake... and made two pizza's by mistake.... So we got to take a free Pizza home! The chef making the pizza was great to chat with... telling us the history of some of the food, the area he was from, etc. Altogether a nice way to spend the meal. We will be back! read more

Walking in I was digging the place - not only does it look cool (on the outside and inside) but it's lively and it's loud and things are moving fast - cafeteria-style. The pizza arrived at our table lickety-split. Unfortunately they looked ugly (I'm sure you got a pie delivered that was completely messy cause it was too hot when it was thrown in the box and the teen behind the wheel is going way too fast? Same concept here - too hot a pizza too loosey-goosey and coming too fast). The pizza is small and very thin. The cheese had a nice tang and the tomatoes popped. We tried two different ones and they were delicious but after so much hype and seeing all sorts of seals and mention of their food being authentic and whatnot... for me it didn't justify the price. It's BYO (although the food comes out so fast you might not have time to uncork that wine). They have a parking lot (although it fills fast and it gets a little tricky trying to leave when it's full and other cars don't seem to understand they need to give you a little elbow room to be able to exit your spot so they can take it). So I've been living in the area for 15 years and claim to be "low carb" so I have missed an opportunity to taste some of the best pizza in the area. Last night I went for my daughter's 14th birthday with eight of her closest friends and sat at the counter with my other daughter and watched the guys prepare the pizzas, from Putting them together to throwing them in the wood-burning oven to cutting them and carefully preparing them before being served. They basically put on a show of fresh, delicious, scrumptious food in front of me. I'm not gonna lie I had the arugula salad with roasted Pear and toasted walnuts and it was top of the charts. And I had a few bites--- maybe a whole slice ---of my daughter's mushroom pizza, drizzled with truffle oil and all I can think about is: when am I going back!!?! Spoke to probably the owner who could not believe I had not been there before. He explained to me the process of the crust and how simple and carefully it is prepared so that it yields the best pizzas. Service was not there , waitress never came to table to ask if anyone wanted soda , water, we had to ask for wine glasses. most places pour for you ! we had to ask for everything, no salt or pepper on the table or even offered no grated cheese no nothing. One of the tables they put together was wobbly the whole time. They should've noticed that when they put the tables up and fixed it before people arrive. we were there for a birthday and brought a cake, they charge 2.00 per person to cut and serve cake. they brought cake dishes and no forks , never asked if anyone wanted coffee. this place should learn what hospitality means and ambience there was none making people feel comfortable and want to come back. They never even came by the table to see if everyone's meal was OK if anyone needed anything else. I would never go back there or recommend it to anyone sorry to say. My first, not so great experience with this place. I've been dining here since they opened but hadn't had it in a while. Was in the mood for their Margherite pizza and a grilled chicken, Caesar salad. I placed an order for delivery and I only live 3-4 blocks away. The pizza was ICE COLD. Like, there is no way they remotely made it from scratch or even warmed up a pre-made one. The romaine in the salad was slightly brownish and wilted, the chicken was burned and tasted a bit old and the croutons were stale and hard as bricks. To preface this - I'm not one to write reviews but this place warranted it. I came here with my family after it was recommended by all of my friends and it was the most awful experience I've ever had at dinner. And we go out a lot. We were shoved in the back corner with kids crying, blasting music, all while a baptism party was going on in the front. So it was incredibly hard to hear the people I was sitting with speak. The people at the tables seated next to us who were seated after us were served before us which I understand can happen, but it took over an HOUR for our food to get to us after ordering (we ordered entrées after our appetizers came out). We only ordered pizzas and calzones. Everyone who came in after us even had dessert and left before we got our food. No one came over to let us know when our food would be out. When our food finally came out it was VERY burnt on the bottom, to the point where it seemed like the chef forgot our food was in the oven. Also, no one came to our table to apologize for the wait/acknowledged our food was burnt which just seemed unprofessional. We asked for more water multiple times and the waitress did not get it for us until we asked the runner for water. When our waitress did bring over the pitcher of water, she had an attitude. She started filling our glasses and then said you guys can just fill it yourselves, dropped the pitcher, and left our table. At the end of our meal the waitress picked up the pitcher and PUT IT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S TABLE!!!!!!! Absolutely disgusting. You could tell she didn't want to be there, neither did the runner. Absolutely terrible at their jobs, even gave us inside out pizza boxes as our to-go containers. This waitress/hostess should be fired. Overall, this restaurant is not on par with Montclair quality. In fairness, I only had an appetizer, a pizza, and dessert so I don't have much to review, but overall I felt like it was overpriced for what I was getting. The montclair pizza was good; thin crust, though not crunchy enough and the cheese was weirdly creamy. The mushrooms were good with a great truffle flavor. The for the price, it was small. We also had the bruschetta appetizer special, which was three pizza of bruschetta for $9, a bit overpriced in my opinion. We also had the trio ice cream, which was TINY and had my salivating for more because I really just wanted to be able taste more of it. It was literally 2 spoonfuls (if that) of three flavors of ice cream. The ambience is great and it was pretty full for a Wednesday night. There's also free parking in the lot next door. The service was attentive and gotta love that it's BYOB even though they apparently now serve wine. read more

Neopolitan-style pizzeria .... with many traditional (and some new and creative) Italian dishes. It's a bit of a breath of fresh air in the midst of restaurant-chaos that is Montclair. The decor is great. It's just a really nice restaurant. Earthy, rustic, warm, inviting - table arrangements have been well-thought out, they can pack a lot of people in and it really doesn't feel like you are being cramped. Like that a lot. You get to watch your pizza being made, if you so desire... huge, open oven pit catches your eye as you first enter. Watch the guy(s) make your pie, it only takes a few minutes... no, really. Food is ordered and delivered *fast* - so take your time with your meal, order slowly, and relax. Definitely not a take-out kind of place. Host and servers are all professional and friendly. The salad with fig-goat cheese... the Ah'Pizz insalata...oh my god... drool. I heard good things. Now, I got to try it. What the hell? How did I just INHALE a salad? That's unheard of. Peppery arugula, tangy vinaigrette, bright bursts of tomato, creamy and sweet speckles of goat cheese. Unreal. Get it. Pizza is borderline orgasmic - crispy on the bottom, melty on the top, with hints of charcoal burnt-goodness as you dive in. I don't like to get crazy with the toppings...but anything done with artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, or truffles.. you know it's gotta be good. Sold. $18 for a pie this good? That's fine by me, keep it coming. Only thing that might need a slight, slight tweeking would be the more traditional dishes. Chicken marsala, tasty and definitely packed with flavor, but the sauce was a little weak, and the pasta needed to be cooked just slightly more... but still pretty good.. the best ever? Nope. But this is a pizza place. If anything, these dishes are secondary, still done pretty well, but not perfect. Hence the four stars. Put it in high gear and make a date. read more

Was very disappointed with my last visit. Was first seated right next to open pizza kitchen area, had to request a table further away. Not sure why we were out there to start. Took 15 minutes to get water. Took another 15 minutes for drink order. Drink didn't come for another 10 minutes after I reminded the waiter. Took our order after he brought drinks. Order Caesar Salad to split then my wife had salmon and I had the lasagna. Salad was pretty good. Waited a bit for food. Finally came clearly cold. My wife's Salmon looked over cooked and also warm. Had to send back. Came back basically the same temp. We were hungry so ate. Waiter so embarrassed another person brought the entrees. During the meal the host was seen checking on tables, just never stopped by ours. Food was ok, I'm sure my lasagna would have been even better if hot. They get 2 stars for the food being decent. Service was abysmal. It's like we were ignored most of the night. I normally leave a 30% tip because I truly appreciate the service business. I left 15% (which is still adequate as I'm not out to punish anyone) with a note to do better. I'm not sure why the service was poor and the food just warm. This restaurant has a nice atmosphere, nice space, and the service was good. However, we ordered a stuffed artichoke appetizer and two chicken dishes for entrees, and that's were things went wrong. This place may have great pizza & maybe pasta, but their chicken arrosto and chicken Marsala left us hungry, because we didn't eat much of them. The chicken was tough, dry and flavorless. The mushrooms in the Marsala were good, the spinach in the arrosto were good, and the mashed potatoes were also good. Chicken should not be ordered here. Also, the stuffed artichoke got a 10 for presentation, but was a mess to eat. It was my first stuffed artichoke, so maybe they are always messy and mostly inedible. I will not return. read more

I'm about as fussy as you can get when it comes to Pizza. It's all about the dough. And this place Nails it with their 1200 degree wood oven. Ive tasted the zucchini flowers, delectable, fluffy and non greasy. I've also had their escarole and bean soup which tasted just like mamas. Their flatbread is also light and white which is sometimes my preference over tomato sauce as some places add sugar and I do not find that enjoyable. My only criticism was the veal meatballs. The serving size is just 2 as an app however it was more like a Bread ball fried in breadcrumbs. Very disappointing. As far as their pizza it will be my go-to place. It runs exceedingly close to the Pizza served at the West Orange Whole Foods. Once again, it's all about the dough!! read more

Based on my experience, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this place to others. The plates were not properly cleaned because small particles of food on the plates before we used them. Now as far as the food goes, we ordered the broccoli rabe; the Margarita pizza with soppressata, spinach, and pepperoni topping; the Bianco; a cheese pizza with sausage and pepperoni. The Broccoli Rabe was good but a bit too oily. The quality of the ingredients of the pizza were lacking. Tomato sauce bitter, bitter aftertaste of the arugula topping on the Bianco and the pizza crust, the crust had a charcoal taste, and too much cheese on all the pizzas, not desirable. Oh, momma's so conflicted about writing this review.... See, the food is amazing. Food-wise, this is one of my son's favorite restaurants -- and at 11, he is super fussy and considers himself quite a pizza connoisseur. And he's right; the pizzas are outstanding; the sauce, the cheese they use, the crust is not to be believed. I've also had the pasta with vodka sauce, and the sauce was out of this world. Sausage pizza is great -- crumbly sausage, which we prefer to the big, fat slices. Side of sauteed spinach was delicious; insalata mista was just fine, nothing outstanding, but perfectly fresh. My son's favorite is the Nutella dessert pizza which was to die for! What I didn't care for was the chicken dish I tried -- can't remember what it's called, but it was egg battered, and just not good at all. I read others' reviews of the service, and can echo the hostess comments -- although the wait staff I've encountered have been super friendly and affable. One server in particular, Frank, was super nice and patient when I had two indecisive kids with me. Really appreciated that. I also would like to agree with those who have said that it is overpriced. So, why only 3 stars? Well, here's the conflict -- I have no interest in hurting this establishment, but if others had had this experience I know I'd want to know. When we ordered our pizzas one night, we started eating them and found a pretty big hair. It couldn't have been ours -- it was baked into the crust. Needless to say, we were pretty shkeeved, and threw everything out. To Mike's (the owner's) credit, he refunded the entire dinner -- and was not defensive, but very apologetic. I thought he handled it perfectly. I also realize that mistakes happen -- but am a little more OCD when it comes to food preparation. I usually like to rate restaurants depending on the food's quality and quantity, however, the food at Ah' Pizz offers does not have either of those. What it does have is a $15-20 price point for a small portion of food that is the same quality and quantity as any typical pizza franchise. Think of a medium 2 topping thin crust pizza from Dominos that you would normally get for around $8, put it in this restaurant and you'll probably pay around $18 for it, except the pizza will be paper thin and will have soggy/wet toppings. Hahaha. Yeah ah pizz? No way. Hippy name for something which is such trash. Generally these very hipster places are expensive and have pretty decent food but damn this place was just awful all around. I came in with a party of 9, and we orderd a few pies and one member got an entree. I was so surprised to see the crazy small pizza which they charged 18 dollars for. Eighteen! For a sub 10in pie. And it wasn't even filled with toppings. It was scarcely topped with a few pieces of chicken and was overly cheesy. The ah pizz pie was topped with maybe at most 5 halved cherry tomatoes, and was watery and soggy. The entire night can be summed up in three words: watery, burned, and expensive. By the time the pies got to us they were on the bottom end of being warm. They were very soggy with the Margherita and ah pizz pies seeping water everywhere. The edges and bottom were well past crisp and were burnt to the point where half the bites were bitter. Let me tell you bitter and soggy doesn't make a good combination. I don't mind paying for quality food. In fact I like visiting quality restaurants where dishes do reach upper 20s and 30s. However the keyword there is quality. Just because you have a fancy looking oven and add on foofoo toppings to seem quirky, doesn't mean you get to charge so much for so little. P.S. Adding insult to injury, the waitress brought out 2 jugs of water between us 9 and didn't fill them up at all. Actually she didn't even come visit us aside from taking the order. And they charged 20% tip? Hah. Save yourself the time and money. I'd rather have any other pizza place than here. read more

I have eaten at Ah'Pizz twice now. Both times were delicious. The pizza is so amazing there. The tastes are so unique. I can't wait to go back again. I also really enjoyed the Calamari Balsamico! I liked it better than Salute. I also loved that they have a children's menu that is an EXCELLENT deal. My daughter really liked the alfredo (I thought it was ok). Sausage pizza was great. I'm not sure they used fresh made mozzarella, but it still tasted really good (even cold many hours later, it was still really good). Zucchini blossoms were something I was dreaming about (I had them at Bobby Flay's), but I think the pancetta was a little too salty and overwhelming - they would have been perfection with just ricotta, I think. I am not a goat cheese fan, but I think the fig with ricotta may have been good too.... The staff was helpful and polite. Anyway, I will definitely be going back! Haven't gone for dinner but I go there from time to time on my lunch break as it's close to my job and has an affordable lunch special. I typically do the soup and salad, and I've also don't the salad and personal pizza, both being like $7.99. It's a good price and I always call my order in ahead of time even though I'm eating there because I only have 30 minutes for lunch and they always accommodate me. My go-to pizza place in Montclair, and tied with Forte (just because of their amazing Bruschetta pizza) as my favorite pizza restaurant in New Jersey. My favorite pizza is the Pizze di Montclair, a vegetarian white pizza with truffle oil and porcini mushrooms that is great every time I order it. The capricciosa is my favorite meat-filled option. The thin crust of all of their pizzas is surprisingly (and wonderfully) doughy and has a pleasant, not overbearing, char from the brick oven. All of their salads are extremely fresh and dressings are usually very good, though sometimes the lettuce is overdressed. Pastas and appetizers range from mediocre to great. The calamari is just OK but I really enjoyed the fried polenta appetizer. The pizzas are individual-sized and are up to $18, so it's not cheap, but for the quality I think that it's worth it. People had recommended this place because of the great pizza so we ordered different type pizzas. All of them were delicious, I would recommended to everyone. The service was great, very attentive.
