I ordered the fettuccine ah pizz but with white sauce instead of red sauce. The server, Danny, brought out the pasta on the menu with red sauce unwilling too change the way Ah'Pizz makes it. I told him I can't have red sauce, that's why I didn't order it the regular, Ah'Pizz, way. He said, "well, we can get you the one from the kids menu, and I'll wrap this pasta for you to go." I told him I didn't want it, therefore I shouldn't have to pay for it. He walked away from me returning minutes later with a to-go bag for me with the pasta I didn't want inside of it. Brought my son here for his mommy and son monthly date because he loves pizza and we wanted to try a new place. The restaurant is in the heart of restaurant central in Montclair, so parking can be a little hard to find. The restaurant is very welcoming and clean. The staff are all nice and pleasant. We tried the fried calamaris, polpette sliders (veal meatball sliders with fontina cheese), and the Margherita pizza. Everything was good. The sliders were my favorite. We saw a crowd on a Saturday night on our way to another restaurant at Ah Pizz. I Yelped it and added it to our list. We went on a Sunday afternoon and didn't deal with the wait. We started with a special which was zuchinni flowers stuffed wth goat cheese and figs -tempura style. They were slightly greasy but very good. The rice ball was good but may have had a tad too much mozzerella inside. Next the Pizza. We tried the mezza luna which was half margherita with black olives and half of a calzone stuffed with ricotta, sausage and roasted red peppers. It was excellent. Environment bustling with happy customers. Warm and friendly staff. Salads are huge and variations plentiful! We ordered the poached pear salad special with arugula, pecans, balsamic vinaigrette and swapped out the goat cheese for warm goat cheese fritters! Super delicious! Also ordered a rice ball which was tasty. For dinner we ordered two pies- Mezza Luna and a Margherita with prosciutto and arugula added. Mezza Luna was a great combo of margherita with kalamata olives on one side and the other side is rolled into a calzone with ricotta, crumbled sausage and roasted peppers. The place was not packed but only one guy working the floor, and he wasn't very attentive. He forgot vital things like forks, straws and never remembered the sauces/seasonings we asked for. I ordered Orecchiette di Gregorio. It looked delicious but boy was I disappointed! Came on a Wednesday night to celebrate a friends birthday. Table of 15 they definitely did what they could but certainly seemed like it was difficult for them to handle as it was extremely hectic. The food was okay, I personally ordered the fig pizza and a rice ball. The rice ball was good but can't compare to others that I have had. The fig pizza was more of a dessert pizza so if you have a super sweet tooth this is for you. Not what I was expecting. It needed some contrast aside from the prosciutto like some herbs, lettuce, maybe a little sauce, I don't know but something. I could barely get three slices down it was just wayyyy too sweet. I will say the dough was really good. Best part about this place is that it is BYOB so that helped with the chaos. What really aggravated me the most is that they wouldn't split the check. Not for nothing but no where on the menu does it say checks can't be split or can only split x amount of ways. Having worked in the food industry since I was 16, I know this is sheer laziness of not wanting to swipe 15 cards and to get the gratuity for the party of 6 or more. In a way I do get it but at the end of the day, I ordered a meal with one other person and I feel as though even though we were with a big party, we should have been able to pay for our meal as we ordered it together on a separate check. Not to mention we were the ONLY table in the restaurant by time we left. If it were packed and busy I wouldn't have had an issue with it. I will acknowledge the manager (assuming) brought over a nutella pizza pie for the birthday girl which was very nice of her to do. I hate giving bad reviews to a local small business, the 5 stars are for the food and quick service for order pickup. Here is the issue: NOBODY WEARS A MASK!!! This is definitely a cute and cozy pizzeria with a full italian menu. Although, we didnt' have reservations, as a walk-in, we were seated within the first 15 mins on a saturday night, which is shocking. Its a BYOB but they do have a bar inside and sell wine by the bottle, which is great for people who might've chosen this place lats minute. I ordered the past primavera, which was absolutely delicious. I did have to add some salt because it was on the bland side for me, but other than that, the vegetables are actually flavorful with the sauce. My friends ordered the Meza Luna pizza (which is half margherita and half calzone). They really liked the concept of half & half because each got to try something different. The pizza itself was delicious and definitely worth seconds! Also ordered the new artichoke stuffed with ricotta and bread crumbs as an appetizer. Was really impressed with this place from start to finish. They have their own lot which is really rare for a place in Montclair. We did go a little later in the night (which may have been a contributing factor) but there was no wait at all, despite the place clearly being popular and busy. Everything we tried was delicious. We had butternut squash ravioli, which were amazing, and the gigi salad and meatballs which were awesome as well. We also shared a couple pies which were good as well (the fig was my favorite). We got there at about 6:30 on a Sunday and there was no wait. The staff was pleasant and our waiter suggested that we each order our own pizza and I'm so glad we did! The crust was thin and had a good crispness around the edges. The sauce was excellent and seemed more like crushed fresh tomatoes. We got a sausage pizza and a margarita pizza. Another amazing find in Montclair! I love stopping in this wood fired grilled pizza spot to order different pies and appetizers. It's great for sharing. Their margherita pie is very popular which I've had many times but if you're with a couple people, it's a great idea to order a couple different pies for sharing since they're small pies. One pie can be shared between two people easily. Tonight I tried the Salsicca pie and the Hotsy Totsy Shrimp. The Salsicca pie has sausage on top of a margherita style pie which was very good. The hotsy totsy Shrimp was smothered in a few diavolo sauce and served with a couple pieces of bread - tasty as well. Can't wait to stop in to try a different pie! read more

They should've noticed that when they put the tables up and fixed it before people arrive. we were there for a birthday and brought a cake, they charge 2.00 per person to cut and serve cake. they brought cake dishes and no forks , never asked if anyone wanted coffee. this place should learn what hospitality means and ambience there was none making people feel comfortable and want to come back. It's a beautiful restaurant and they are definitely taking all the covid precautions. And the staff is so friendly and fun! The food was fantastic and exactly what I expected. The menu is huge so my husband and I ended up sharing a margarita pizza and the pesto gnocchi! Both were delicious and super filling. When we got to the restaurant, we realized it's byob but our waitress said no problem and gave us an extensive wine/beer menu from a neighboring shop. They ended up delivering wine to our table! Everything was delicious, except the rigatoni. The sauce was somewhat flavorless and the prosciutto wasn't chopped finely enough, making it really difficult to chew. The ambiance is really nice if you opt to dine in, plus it's BYOB. The parking situation is a little weird. If you encounter the complimentary parking side next to the restaurant, you're pretty much parking in what appears to be tenant parking. You're better off on the street. read more

To preface this - I'm not one to write reviews but this place warranted it. I came here with my family after it was recommended by all of my friends and it was the most awful experience I've ever had at dinner. And we go out a lot. We were shoved in the back corner with kids crying, blasting music, all while a baptism party was going on in the front. So it was incredibly hard to hear the people I was sitting with speak. The people at the tables seated next to us who were seated after us were served before us which I understand can happen, but it took over an HOUR for our food to get to us after ordering (we ordered entrées after our appetizers came out). We only ordered pizzas and calzones. Everyone who came in after us even had dessert and left before we got our food. No one came over to let us know when our food would be out. When our food finally came out it was VERY burnt on the bottom, to the point where it seemed like the chef forgot our food was in the oven. Also, no one came to our table to apologize for the wait/acknowledged our food was burnt which just seemed unprofessional. We asked for more water multiple times and the waitress did not get it for us until we asked the runner for water. When our waitress did bring over the pitcher of water, she had an attitude. She started filling our glasses and then said you guys can just fill it yourselves, dropped the pitcher, and left our table. At the end of our meal the waitress picked up the pitcher and PUT IT ON SOMEONE ELSE'S TABLE!!!!!!! Absolutely disgusting. You could tell she didn't want to be there, neither did the runner. The ingredients in all of the dishes are very fresh. I love the Samantha salad which comes with mozzarella, roasted red peppers and artichoke hearts. The pizza is also fresh with a very natural tomato flavor. My favorite is the margherita pie. I love their eggplant rollatini appetizer and their chicken francese dinner is excellent (great sauce!). I recommend the fried calamari too! The big show stopper is their cannoli - it's not only the best cannoli I've ever had but it's one of the best desserts I've ever had (and I'm a dessert junkie!) The best part of residency interviews? The aftermath social! I was lucky enough to be offered a ride to the restaurant by one of the sweet residents. Came along with 3 other interviewees, we were the first group to arrive. Ah'Pizz reserved 3 long tables in the the back dining room for us. The restaurant reminded me of a huge open concept kitchen.The space was warm and homie with its winter festive decor. I loved the giant windows even though it was pretty much pitch black looking out. Lots of locals trickled in as more of our party showed up. A waiter was assigned to our party and he was quick in taking/bringing our drink orders. The resident took charge of ordering for us. Each of the 3 tables shared 3 salads, 4 pies (2 tomato basil, 1 Ah'Pizz special, 1 spinach,goat cheese, olives), and 1 dessert pie (nutella pizza). After being on half a dozen interviews, I really appreciate a good salad. I especially enjoyed the candied walnuts + almond shavings +apple/pear slices in a bed of spinach/arugula goodness. The 4 pies came out soon after. I'm more of a chewy, bready dough person (not a big fan of the thin crust - they taste like crackers!), but I really enjoed the marinara sauce on the tomato basil. I found the Ah'Pizz special to be wayyy too salty and dry. Did it even come with sauce? I didn't get a taste of the spinach/goat cheese/olives since I hate olives and goat cheese.. and I saw no trace of red (tomato sauce) - so I can't say much about it. But all the fellow interviewees seemed to really enjoy it. After polishing the 4 pies, we ended our meal with their signature dessert. The nutella pizza reminded me of crepe on crepe. It's not your Max Brenner pizza. Instead it' was a thin crepe like dough sandwich filled with nutella spread with a nice dust of powder sugar on top. It came out warm and soft to our table. Its taste - literally a giant ferro roche- A bit of crunch here and there from the crepe like dough. The nutella filling overflowed and spilled out with every bite. One of the residents couldn't help but have 3 slices all by herself! Really, calories don't count with this dessert! Savory pizza wise - were good but nothing memorable or worth my trek back to Jersey for. Nevertheless, a pleasant social dinner - one I can finally formally sit down and have a nice meal! read more
