I revisited one of the first poke places that I had reviewed. The last time I came here, it was their grand opening. The promotional special was 50% off any bowl with the purchase of a drink. There are now so many more poke shops around town that it's hard to stand out from the pack. The price for a large bowl is now $14.45 which is a $2.50 increase from their initial price point. If only our wages would rise 20% over a span of fewer than three years (wishful thinking). You still receive only three scoops of protein compared to five scoops offered in a large bowl at some competitors. I did note that the kimchi shrimp and tuna luau were unique ingredients that I have not seen elsewhere. Other than that, the experience was worth a three star rating.
For poki bowl eateries in SD, I would say my favorite is Poki 1 & 1/2, then this comes second, and SD poki Co. comes last. Pros: they have more variety in fish meat to choose from, as well as other types of plates with meat proteins like chicken and eel and spam musubi. Fresh. Portions are good. They have tasty sauces to choose from to put on your poki bowl. I like their passion fruit mango drink. Con: slightly pricier than Poki 1 & 1/2 (ahi poki has $10 for choice of 2 fish meat bowls, and avocado costs extra, whereas Poki 1 & 1/2 is $8.00, avocado included).
I ordered the Large poke online- they gave me the regular size bowl instead of large. Room temperature fish with no flavor whatsoever, ordered their house sauce and needed to add some soy sauce when I got home to somehow enjoy the bland food. Spam musubi- taste straight like fish, disgusting. Guava drink- taste like sugar no guava, had to dump the entire drink. I do not recommend this place whatsoever. What a waste of $25
Delicious POKe. I ordered the small bowl. You can pick what you want on your bowl. And the sauces you want in it. I tried it for the first time and the gentlemen that was there helped me out service is good. Very clean spot. I liked it a lot and will try again soon. They also have a macaroons ice cream sandwiches YuMmmmmm!!! Love them
I love poke. In fact, I could probably eat it almost everyday without getting sick of it. Ahipoki is the closest place to my home to get fresh poke. It is decent, but not my favorite. I have been there three times so far. Like most poke places, you pick your base (salad or rice), your fish, your sauces and your toppings. They do have a lot of choices here, including mango, which is nice. However, here they give you two scoops of fish for a regular size and three for a large. Most places give you three scoops for a regular and five for a large. Well, I love fish and always order a large at this place in order to have my usual three scoops, which makes it more expensive, and gives me a lot of other toppings I really don't want. Also, here, things like yellowtail and avocado cost extra. Some other places they do not charge extra. Finally, as this is a relatively new poke spot for me, I was asking questions about the sauces. The worker did not seem terribly interested and also said she didn't know what some of the sauces were. I thought it was odd that she expected me to just play a guessing game. Anyway, this place is A-OK, but not great...so 3 stars it is!
After living in Hawaii for a while, I may be a bit picky about poke. But sometimes you have to love the one you're with-so I went in to Ahi Poke. The restaurant is In the front of a shopping center on Rosecrans at Sports Arena. It is next to a Noodle & Company and there is a Petsmart in the back. When I walked in I noticed the tables and floor was very clean. I entered and immediately noticed that the floor and tables were very clean. The order line is to the right as you come in. The counters with the fish and toppings also looked really clean and very neat. The menu board gives many choices. You pick your protein, then rice (white or brown) or salad, sauce and then toppings. They were nice and let me taste the tuna before ordering. I asked for the sauce on the side so I could really check it out. It smelled fresh and had a good taste. So I selected the tuna for my protein with steamed rice with a sauce of soy, garlic and sesame oil (?) and toppings of seaweed salad, crab salad, pickled red onions and then a good sprinkling of black sesame seeds. The tuna was delicious. Again, I asked for the sauce on the side to control how much was used. It was good for a touch on the tuna and made the rice more tasty too. The crab was delicious and the pickled onions were also good. My favorite was the seaweed salad. It was crunchy and had a great flavor. The sesame seeds on top added a wonderful crunch and flavor. I highly recommend Ahi Poke. The food is fresh and flavor is very good.
Having been away from home for 10 days and not having poke for 10 days, I was craving some really bad!!! Luckily we came across this place bc it did not disappoint. Service was great! I got to sample the spicy tuna and the tuna luau and both were really good. I decided on those for my large poke bowl (which included 3 scoops. So I got 2 scoops of their tuna luau which also had some avocado, onion, and their house sauce), and 1 scoop of the spicy tuna. I opted for half brown rice and half salad as my base. The toppings are great, as you can choose all if you would like! I got edamame, green onions, red onion, crab, hard boiled egg, furikake, wasabi, and crispy onions. The large poke bowl was $11.95 which was a good deal for the amount of food I got. My husband had a salmon bowl which he enjoyed and I didn't get a picture of because he dug in to it too fast, lol!! Would def come back again when we're in San Diego!
Hey Yelpers! Visit: May 31st 6:30 pm I am extremely disappointed in this place. I was excited since this place had 4 stars at least... Sadly this place is no where near 4 stars. Staff/Cleanliness: First off this place was not busy when we came in and there was TWO workers. I've been to poke shops that have only had one person working the whole place and I received cleaner and better service at those other poke shops. This place had a dirty food preparation space, unorganized, unprepared, and careless customer service. Please hire new employees, that care and respect their job. Food Issues: Second they were out of three different proteins, out of WHITE RICE, out of masago, one half of an avocado left over. OVERCHARGED: Third since they were out of majority of their menu, it would've been nice to received avocado with no charge... Instead they double charged me for two orders off avocado. Clearly, I only received one order of avocado. Overly Priced: This place is the absolute worst poke place I've ever been too. Way over priced, a large bowl only contains 3 scoops of protein. Containers are very small. Food Taste: I was excited because besides all of that, the food looked good in the to go containers.... Wow, the crab meat tasted expired. The organic salad tasted like they did not prewash it before serving. I ended up throwing it out, I could not handle the taste anymore. Parking:Yes Staff: Horrible Recommend: NO, Will not be going back.
I love poki!!! Decided to stop at this spot before even seeing the reviews which I loved to see what I saw from the get go! Didn't know exactly how the process was l, but encountered 2 friendly ladies more than willing to explain the building process. Once I had chosen my fish, it was time for the toppings, they stack the plates nicely and I like the way they help each other. The bowl looked and tasted fantastic!! The place is clean and it's simply great! This was my first time here and it will not be the last. Eating healthy and delicious food is the idea. Really liked all the options for my bowl and also. Thanks for the great job you guys are doing :)
I'm not sure whether the perceived fishy, mushy character of their fish was enhanced by the very pungent smell of wet, rotting fish emanating throughout the restaurant. In fact, the odor was prevalent upon walking in and throughout dinner itself. The boyfriend and I noticed that they were cooking their whole salmon and eel dishes out in the open, however, the smell of wet fish and cooked fish are different and should not be that noticeable. I happened to pick at my boyfriend's bowl only, but his large poke bowl with 3 scoops of protein at $11.95 was rather small; more a size of a regular at another poke joint. As mentioned, it seemed too fishy to me. One interesting selection for their fish was their *Tuna Luau*. I guess this is their prepped poke selection which already includes slices of avocado. If you don't want to pay $1 extra for a side of avocado, get this to cheat the system. In addition to the bowl, a Thai tea ($3.50) was also forced upon me by the ever too kind boyfriend. I did not like how the worker encouraged it even though I said I did not want one after sampling it and noticing how watery and tasteless it was. A big maybe 22oz cup of this was just as bland and watered down.
I like Poke, and I am one of those who is really pleased that many poke shops continue to open up around town. I decided on the regular two scoop bowl featuring tuna and salmon as my protein with a variety of toppings including avocado which I gladly paid a dollar extra for. The bowl came with a good amount of tuna and salmon. Both were very tasty and of decent quality. I did think the salmon did offer more of that velvety rich texture. The krab salad was fresh and so were the fresh cut cucumbers, onions, and edamame. My base was brown rice and it was well prepared. All the topping were great, but my favorite were the avocado and seaweed salad. I like the way they slices and fanned out the avocado, which was perfect ripe, and the seaweed had great flavor and a good crunch. I went for the garlic and soy sauce which was not to overbearing. Service was very good and very upbeat. Their prices are right in line with most of their competition. The bowl cost $9.95 plus and extra $1 for the avocado.
So fresh and delicious! I stood at the counter forever deciding what three scoops I wanted; everything looked good! I ended up going with the plain tuna, plain salmon, and kimchi shrimp as opposed to the avocado tuna or spicy salmon option. This is definitely the way to go! You get more fish per scoop, and I could actually taste the fish. My boyfriend got the avocado tuna, and it made his bowl taste mushy. But if you do want avo, this might be the best way to go, because if you add it later, it's +$1. The kimchi flavor of the kimchi shrimp was really weak. And for the sauce, I'd say less is more! Overall, the food was fresh and the service was great. 10/10! I also got the free miso soup with check in, and it was really tasty. Big tofu chunks and the scallions added a nice kick. read more

Stopped here because I was in the area and was in the mood for some poke. Whenever I try a new poke place I'm usually disappointed, luckily this poke was better than expected. The customer service was probably the best I've experienced, dude had me laughing! My only issue is the price I get for three scoops of fish I can go to poki one n half and get five, plus they charge extra for avocado!? I want to give this place a three star because they're hustling you for your poke BUT the food is actually good and the staff were top notch!!! Still Poki one n half wins. read more

A small poke fast food stop in a strip plaza. All the poke selection is fresh and the service was good. There are different combos that you can select from. The veggies and selections were good. I just wished they had more of a selection of mixed poke. They give you options with sauces they can mix and blend for you. I got the Luau which was delicious and paired it with brown rice, seaweed salad, red onions, edamame peas. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. WARNING: IMAGES CONTAIN INSECTS! Went here for lunch with my supervisor. I had the salad bowl with Tuna Luau and Salmon with some other good toppings. We got back to the office and immediately, there was something moving in my salad. I literally jumped out of my office chair to see a full size moth dying in my salad! I pulled it out and into a cup and left the office to drive back. When I talked to their manager, the excuse was that "the salads are packaged, so we can't control what happens with that." MAYBE TRY WASHING YOUR VEGETABLES!!! We got refunded for the atrocity, but oh check it out! We got a free bowl for our next visit. Thanks a lot. read more

You can taste the freshness and quality in the protein! (Even at the end of the night) I had a young man help me on Saturday night and asked if he could separarte my rice for me because I was driving a little ways away and might want to heat it up later. He separated it no problem but then he iced my proteins and toppings without me asking saying he wouldn't want to risk anything going bad. I really appreciated that extra care and his overall friendly demeanor, needless to say my bowl was excellent by the time I got home! read more

I'm giving this place a one star because the guy in the photo below has THE worst customer service I've ever experienced. How hard is it to answer a question about 1 sauce without getting annoyed and throw a poke bowl together without slamming stuff around like a 5 year old, doesn't seem like rocket science...Wish I would of read the reviews about him before coming here. Don't know why after so many terrible reviews he's even still around. I will not be coming back for that reason. BUT the food was great & fish was fresh! But pricey in comparison to other poke places for the portion & also less options for add ons. read more
Unexpected stop but I'm glad we found this place. Once again it's another poke spot in a city of poke places. But the flavors here are really good! They have also have daikon radish as a topping which I love but never see at poke places. The other thing that sets them apart is their tea options! I got Thai tea with my poke! What?! Yes they have Thai tea! Along with guava or their Hawaiian drink. The portion sizes are huge and well worth the price. I got half and half regular bowl 2 scoops protein and my bf had their large with 3 scoops of protein. Mine came in a plastic square container the salad really takes up a lot of space. They put the rice on the bottom. I did shrimp and spicy tuna. Their protein selection is similar to other places. Their spicy house sauce was good. It was a good amount of spice but not overpowering next to my spicy tuna. Honestly the portions are just huge here. Well worth it. Even the my bf's bowl was overflowing. He did all rice so they kept it in the bowl. Overall really enjoyed the poke here. Very fresh and flavorful. Portions are great. Well kept restaurant and friendly helpful staff. read more

Hands down this is my favorite place to get poke. I wouldn't say I'm a poke fanatic but I've gone to a few places around San Diego and other cities and this is the one I typically crave. Their seafood is so fresh and the colors are so vibrant. There is always a steady flow of customers. The prices are really good and the staff is always friendly. I typically do the half and half kelp noodles and white rice. They have so many choices for toppings I feel like I'm eating healthy when I come here! read more

I wanted to like this place - we love poke! Ordered takeout and for 50$ (not including fees or delivery) we got 3 tiny, warm entrees. Had to eat a full meal after and season the food we did get, and we are not a corpulent bunch. Don't go here. read more

4.889 stars. We are here all of the time and will continue to go. We've been aimlessly searching all of San Diego for our poke fix since we moved from LA. We used to live in Koreatown, and our favorite was wiki poki and also Seasalt in DTLA. Until AhiPoki opened, we were pretty sad as the places that we have tried, notably Poke Go among others, had high ratings, but were total crap. The fish at AhiPoki is fresh. Prices are reasonable ($11.95 for a large which is 3 oversized scoops of fish--I always get the tuna, salmon, and albacore) and you can choose what "base" to put it on (I usually do half salad, half brown rice). Most toppings are free but I always add avocado for the extra $1. They are generous with their toppings--the workers are bomb (I'm talking about you, Amber!). Just be careful of the house sauce, it is fairly salty so I just have them give me half a pump. We go all of the time... time to give them props! Keep up the good work, guys! read more

First time here today and I LOVED IT!!!! The size of the poki bowl is big & great for the price! The flavor within the bowl just jumped at me and it was very delicious!! It's was exploding with great flavor I enjoyed every last bite! I'm super stuffed now and so happy! I haven't had poki in a while and this passed my cravings and expectations. Im so happy I tired this location! The man working was very nice and explained the menu for me. I will definitely be coming back here. I love where it's located, Easy to get too with plenty of parking. If you're craving some poki this is definitely a great spot to grab some at!! read more
I was driving by the other week when I saw that a new poke shop had opened up - Ahi Poki! I swung on by and found out that they had only been open for 2 weeks but there was already a nice sized crowd inside the cozy restaurant. Set up is similar to other poke spots where you walk up and custom order your bowls. After taking a quick peek at the proteins, I went with a regular sized bowl with brown rice as the base. On top I chose Spicy Tuna, Tuna Lu'au (which was pretty much cubed ahi and avocados), Masago, Imitation Krab, Seaweed Salad, Cucumbers, Green Onions, Radish, Daikon Sprouts, Furikake, Crispy Onions and Chili Flakes. Per the owner's suggestion, I went with the House Spicy Sauce. I usually would have gone with the yellowtail but saw it was an extra charge---but for only a $1 more, I'll definitely go that route next time. At first glance I thought the plating was a bit messy but all the portions were very generous. It could be the staff member was new so it was no biggy. The fish tasted fresh and was well seasoned and all the extra goodies at no additional charge (unless you ask for avocado or tamago) is awesome. Definitely a solid poke spot and hopefully they'll get a beer/wine license because a cold Sapporo would have made it perfect! ps. They're finally open! Super friendly staff and high quality fish. It's chipotle style poke, and you can either customize your own bowl or get one of their suggestions. Prices are reasonable for a quick lunch as well. They also have sushi burritos, which I'll definitely be back for. read more

A little pricey but worth a try. Tuna Luau was pretty tasty, but you are sacrificing some fish because you're getting onions and avocados with the tuna. Would consider returning if in the Sports Arena area again. read more
Overall not a bad poke spot. Lots of fish options for the bowls and sauce options and toppings. Clean restaurant dab smack in the middle of Midway. I thought the fish and shrimp bowl I got was just right taste wise. Staff was accommodating with answering various questions. read more

First time coming here and gotta say, this place is legit. Good selection of protein and very fresh. They even have a tuna luau (marinated tuna with avocado & onions) which I haven't seen anywhere else in SD. I opted for the regular poke bowl with house spicy sauce, tuna luau & regular tuna & most of the toppings (mango was a nice surprise). They also have a selection of fruity drinks like guava & tropical. This will be my go-to poke place whenever I'm in the area. read more
I got a regular bowl with half brown rice half salad. I chose salmon and tuna luau for my fish scoops and it was so yummy. This place has my favorite toppings of any poke place! Mango, sprouts, edamame, crispy onions, chili powder, and very generous avocado portions :) they even have yellowtail as a poke option for $1 extra. The house sauce here is pretty salty so I would recommended asking for only one pump instead of the standard two. The spicy creamy sauce is delicious and the workers are super friendly, letting you try samples of different fish before you decide. Lots of seating and parking, perfect for lunch if you are in the Point Loma area. read more

This is the BEST poki I have had since I moved from Hawaii 5 years ago to San Diego. Hands down straight up like Foodland's spicy ahi poke bowl. If you want the real authentic flavor you NEED to check this place out. Make no mistake, you get a LOT of food even in the regular bowl. I made sure to get the regular bowl with tuna and salmon, house and spicy creamy seasoning, and fruikake topping to make it completely perfect. read more

My 2nd visit went really well. Service was excellent and fast-food is assembled subway style in front of you. This time I tried the shrimp meat, sliced eggs, edamame, along with albacore, tuna and brown rice. The large I ordered is so big I had to save about a third for later. Restaurant is spotlessly clean. Ahipoke is my top Poke choice in the Midway/Oldtown district. read more

Coming from the islands and having a grandpa fisherman fishing in the deepest trench in the world (Guam), I can honestly say this place is the grinds salmon poki can be a little fishier but this place IS THE BOMB! Always on point playing the island chunes. Thank you for being my home away from home. read more

First time for me to eat poke is delicious and feel healthy with around 13$ for large bowl and they add a variety of topping without add a cost, (around 3-4 topping) Maybe I take home with ice cream macaron sometimes read more

Great customer service! The young man was very respectful and friendly food is good! Fresh and delicious! Only down fall was the out door dining area was super dirty and trash cans where over flowing and restroom where super dirty as well read more
Fresh Seafood and veggies all prepared with their house spicy sauce and a spicy mayo sauce. While neither of the sauces are actually spicy (according to my spicy scale) the poke is one of the better pokes i have had. Ill be back again read more

This is my second time coming here and I must say this is one of the best poke places I have ever been to! I have been obsessed with poke for the past year and have tried over 20 different joints. I will list some points that really make this place amazing AND healthy. -the salad mix is mixed greens! With spinach, which is ideal for me since I am health conscious. -they don't drench your fish in sauce -nothing is extra $ except the avocado -they are generous with the scoops of fish! -they have unique choices for the fish for example: the tuna luau.
