I've been to Urbane Cafe on Napa Street several times now, and it has quickly become one of my favorite lunch spots in San Diego. Every meal I've had has been fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. You can really tell they use quality ingredients. I also have to mention the cookies--they're a must! I get one every single visit, and they're the perfect way to end the meal. The customer service has been excellent every time I've been there. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the manager always goes above and beyond to make sure customers are taken care of. It's rare to find a place with both amazing food and outstanding service, and this location definitely delivers. I'll definitely keep coming back! read more

We just got delivery from this location today. I've been eating here for years. Today we ordered our usual - the Salmon Bowl and the Baja Bowl. The quality has clearly gone downhill! Unfortunately. Salmon Bowl: The sweet potatoes were completely burnt & inedible, there was barely any kale (MAYBE two forkfuls, at most), and the piee of salmon was smaller then my little fist. Baja Bowl: Barely any kale (this bowl had even less than the other bowl), no guacamole - which it's supposed to have, and barely any chicken. There was so little in each bowl, they barely looked full. And again- these are my usual orders! So I'm very familiar. Wow. If I had been eating there, I would have asked them to remake them/ or returned the order. That's how bad it was! And we spent $30+ on the order. I can no longer recommend this place. #ChimichurriSteak sandwich was hands-down one of the best I've had. The tri-tip was packed with flavor, and everything from the chimichurri to the feta and cranberry aioli just worked perfectly together. The craft sodas are next level too, especially the Shirley Temple and black cherry definitely worth trying. My favorite Shirley temple they are made with cane sugar which is a major plus for me . What really stood out though was the customer service super friendly, welcoming, and the place was clean all around. Also, a nice touch: they keep the cookies on a warmer right up front, so when you grab one it's fresh, soft, and perfectly gooey. They also offer catering and event catering, which is a huge plus perfect for corporate events, parties, or any gathering. We absolutely love Urbane! I've been a loyal customer since 2011. Their food is always fresh and the service is always amazing. Regardless if you choose to dine-in or take out it's always a great experience. The vibe is so friendly. I've tried most of the sandwiches on the menu. On this visit I took my man and we chose to eat in the car since we picked up our food towards closing time. He got the chimichurri steak and I got The Club. Both were so delicious. I changed the cheddar cheese to pepper jack and that was a game changer for THE CLUB. I love how the sandwiches always come with a side salad. We ate the food so fast that I didn't get a chance to take pictures. I'll definitely have to update my review with some food pics. I was excited that Urbane Cafe was offering a Bogo offer on Valentine's Day so I plan to come and order my two favorites, the salmon bowl and the Aji bowl. That would take care of two days of meals plus they're super yummy. I arrived at 1:45 and ordered my meal and it was ready in the 15 minutes promised. The manager. Adan was super helpful because I was having trouble ordering the Bogo offer on my app. He solved it right away and he was so kind and capable. He had this location operating very smoothly and he was doing it in the right way. Everyone seemed really happy and working as a great team. He even came outside while I was eating on the patio and asked everyone how their meal was going. I commented on how delicious the sauce was on my salmon and he said it was their secret sweet chili sauce. I finished my salmon meal and I'm quite full so I'm gonna go for a little high canal in the Mission Valley preserve and then I will enjoy my Aji bowl tomorrow. I'm amazed these days that I can actually get a meal for a decent price of around $15 and I am very very satisfied. The bathroom and the entire space including the patios were very clean. This place is naughty and nice. Naughty when you wanna add more carbs with a cookie, and nice with the huge selection of salads and sandwiches. I love their app, that allows you to customize any item you choose. And just about every order, I have enough points for a free cookie! The salads are ridiculously big portion for the price. Each one is fresh. The only change I've noticed is they no longer do sliced avocado. I prefer it sliced rather than guacomole-style. On our way to a Padres game at Petco Park we decided to pick up late lunch. We were at the Morena/Linda Vista transit station and noticed Urban Cafe was right in the same shopping center which was perfect for grabbing food before hopping on the trolley. We were short on time so we ordered through the app while looking for a parking spot. We ordered the salmon salad, ahi salad, and club sandwich. Everything was ready when we arrived, and exactly as ordered with the extra lettuce on the salads. Loved how easy and convenient the whole experience was. Admittedly, this might be an inflated review because I have so much love for Urbane for nostalgia reasons. I went to USD and they catered so many events for us, I had Urbane all the time. And I just love that 10 years later it's just as great as it used to be. The bread at urbane is so good. I absolutely love this focaccia bread. Every sandwich I've tried is great. I particularly love the steak chimichurri sandwich and the southwest chicken. They're both super flavorful. The southwest chicken has ooey gooey cheese, black beans, corn, and avocado. The chimichurri on the steak has a perfect herbaceous flavor. The side salad that the sandwiches come with is so simple, but I love the vinaigrette dressing with the feta and clementine. It's the perfect complement. This location is pretty small compared to the Burbank location for example, but everyone at both locations are so kind and inviting. I didn't get the tortilla soup this time but I do love that soup as well and highly recommend it! read more

The Linda Vista branch of Urbane Cafe was smaller than the one I had visited on Mira Mesa Blvd for a group outing. The parking situation here was a little trickier too because the spaces were shared with all the residents and businesses at the Morena Vista apartment complex. The menu board was posted high above the service counter when you walked in. I had to stare at it a little while to figure out what I wanted. What caught my eye this time was the BBQ Tri-Tip sandwich. The marinated BBQ tri-tip steak was dressed with pepper jack cheese, house made apple coleslaw, and chipotle aioli. The slaw really added contrast to the meat. Like all of their sandwiches, the order came with a small mixed green salad on the side. I also bought a fountain drink to fill up on the refreshing lemonade. That beverage was pretty addicting because of the heavy amount of sugar. Speaking of sweet, I finished my order with one of the Black & White cookies which don't seem to be available anymore. It was half of a Double Chocolate Crunch and half of a regular Chocolate Chip. Mine was a little overbaked as it was crustier than I had preferred, but the cookie still tasted great. We got the special, a Harissa Chicken Sandwich which was a tad messy with all of the sauce, so I recommend to be mindful where you eat that one (maybe not in from of your CEO at a new job, or in the car while you're driving). While Harissa is known to be spicy, this was not the same, especially since it was paired with a tzatziki sauce to balance it out It was hard to put it down once I started (both out of messiness and also out of delicious bliss) We also ordered a pastrami rueben that was a great combination of salty, sweet, and sour. It came with a little side of zingy mustard - do yourself a favor and slather that on there, it really elevated the dish. this sandwich has bread and butter pickles, which I don't care for but with the mustard and the salty meat, it was a perfect addition. I'm honestly really disappointed and frustrated by my experience here. I went in ready to pay, only to be told that my $100 bill wouldn't be accepted. In today's world, there are multiple ways businesses can verify larger bills--pens, UV lights, counterfeit detectors, or even just having a manager approve it. What made this even more upsetting is that there's literally a bank right next door. I shouldn't have to leave, go wait in line at a bank just to break a bill, and then come back to complete a simple purchase. That's not reasonable, and it feels like a lack of effort on the business's part to accommodate customers. Refusing legitimate U.S. currency is frustrating enough, but the inconvenience this caused made the whole experience feel unnecessary and avoidable. Being in America and not accepting American tender--especially without offering a practical solution--is honestly pretty shameful. This review will stand as is. That said, I do believe in second chances. If this policy changes, I'd be open to updating or removing this review for a better experience or complementary meal. read more

Okay, I'm not gunna lie. We get Urbane catered all the time at work so I have been on an Urbane boycott for a while. It's just too much bread for me to have all the time. I went there last week and tried their salmon salad and it was FIRE. I really enjoyed all the flavors mixing together and how there was just enough of everything in it. I ordered at the counter and within 10 minutes my food was brought to my table. They had quite a few salad options so that's nice. We went during the lunch hour and there were places to sit but not alot. It wasn't crowded but it wasn't quiet. I now have a go-to salad I can order when my team wants to order Urbane. read more

I've been back to Urbane Cafe a couple of times and I really appreciate the range of low calorie options here, and that the calories are listed on the menu so there's no guessing if you're counting calories. So far, I've had the cilantro chicken salad, crunchy peanut salad, and the Santa Maria bbq salad, and the ahi salad (in the order of least to most favorite, although I enjoyed all but the ahi salad.) The quarter of focaccia bread included with the salad is a nice touch. I do think the sandwiches here are quite small. The main thing I appreciate about urbane is that there's a lot of transparency regarding ingredients and allergens, and there's a big emphasis on sourcing high quality food. The bottom of my cookie was burnt, dry, and crumbly which wasn't the end of the world because it was still edible. But the salmon bowl was not! It was my first time trying it so unfortunately I don't have a frame of reference but the whole grain rice was hard, not like crunchy, but actually hard like I couldn't eat it! I ended up picking through- eating the sweet potatoes, and salmon individually but I was so bummed! The focaccia piece I added was also burnt on the bottom! When we have large gatherings and don't cook we normally order Urbane Cafe. It's literally 1 mile away, so we love to order from here. Today was highly unusual, so we had to write a review to help Urbane Cafe maintain the same level of quality no matter what. In the picture you see the popular cranberry brie sandwich with literally less than a teaspoon of cranberry. We ordered this meal to taste the cranberry and there was barely any. I didn't think to take a picture of the pizza, but we have 4 sons and ordered 3 kids' pizza meals. Well, the pizza was burnt around the edges and was cut is such a sloppy manner. The person in the kitchen tonight needs to slow down and think about the quality of the food going out the door. We are very disappointed with our order tonight and hope that the owner or manager reads our review and speaks to the kitchen staff about the terrible food that went out tonight.
