We tried it for first time today because we enjoy lamb dishes from this region of China. It's self serve and there's a no tipping policy. The food and service were fantastic and I would certainly come back again with friends and family. They also had live music to entertain us on Labor Day Monday during lunch hours. The food here was amazing. I'm still thinking about the texture of the potato noodles since I left. The depth of flavor was on point and the meat was cooked perfectly. Same goes for the lamb shank, absolutely dialed in. The service was really friendly and the restaurant itself was well thought out. Love that they have an easy ordering system, and I was honestly shocked to see no tip option at checkout. They also had toothpicks and mouthwash available, which was a nice touch. We also ordered a bowl of soup that had so much depth despite being completely clear. The lamb noodles were cooked perfectly too, though personally I preferred the flat noodles over the round ones. I believe it's the same owner as Ma's Kitchen, the decor, the set up, and the live music is all the same. Very lively restaurant and overall fun to go to. Parking can get kinda fisted since it's a busy plaza and there's a waitlist when we went on a weekday night, but we were seated in under 15 minutes. The ordering system is via a QR code at the table and food came out decently quickly. Plates were cleared out of the way very efficiently as well. We got the: 1) Lanzhou Potato Noodles: -Comes with an entire hard boiled egg, roasted peanuts, ground beef, and of course the super chewy delicious potato noodles. Nice chewy texture that absorbed the oily chili broth nicely. Make sure not to spill on your shirt! 2) Lamb Bing: -This is a "Chinese lamb burger". Seasoned lamb cubes inside. A bit dry for the bread part, but the meat inside is tender and they don't skimp on it. Pieces were falling out when we were taking some bites, but no worries, just pick them up afterwards. 3) Spicy Potato Slices: -Comes in the same broth as the potato noodles The chili oil broth. Comes with lots of potato slices in it. Nice cold dish, potato slices had a slight crunch to them. I love getting this as an appetizer. 4) Lanzhou Three Fort Tea: -Comes out piping hot. Very strongly steeped tea with some floral and fruity notes to it. After steeping it even longer, it has a bit of a medicinal herbal taste to it, but I'm sure it tastes great if you have a sore throat or need something warm on a cold day. 5) Lanzhou Grilled Flat Bread: -Can NEVER go wrong with grilled bread. It's nice and toasted with some charred edges and heavily seasoned with their sauce and chili flakes and cumin. A bit dry (not as dry as the lamb bing), but you can always dip it in the chili oil broth. Loved this. 6) AiPaPa Yogurt: -Naturally sweetened with honey and has some jujubes in it. -Comes out mega cold though, so careful if you have sensitive teeth, but it does taste like a better and healthier yogurt since it's not as sweet and has a stronger tart yogurt flavor to it. -Not bad and good for digestion. The menu is definitely much more limited than the previous Ma's Kitchen, and I guess they do that so they can focus more on the menu items that they currently have. Overall, delicious! read more

My wife and I have been big fans of Aipapa Kitchen for a long time. The food, atmosphere, and prices are all 5 stars in our book. But what really stood out to us today was the kindness of the staff. My wife had an unexpected emergency, so we asked one of the female servers if she could help. Without hesitation, she went to her car and brought back a sanitary pad for my wife, which honestly saved the day. It was such a small gesture, but it meant a lot to us. You can either order togo on the giant automatic vending machine right by the door or you can order through the QR code once you sit down. Also you can pay through the online QR code as well! My wife and I came here on a Friday night and ordered their usual, lamb skewers, lamb burger, beef chow mein etc... Eating a hot and spicy fish dish while the restaurant was this warm made the meal a little uncomfortable. I think this would be much more enjoyable on a cooler day, or when the AC is working well. Service was average. Overall, the fish itself is definitely worth trying, but there are a few things that could be improved. 4 stars.

Came in with my friend, was told to wait by the host for a table. When a different group came in after us, he told them to join the waitlist on the machine near the front. He told us to do the same after they joined the waitlist. That felt weird already. After joining the waitlist, we got a text after that our table was ready. We waited at the front for 10 minutes and we were being ignored. The lady at the cash register was helping others and after she finished, she went back into the kitchen. We decided to leave since we weren't getting a table. Would've loved to try the food but when you have bad service like that, it's not worth it. read more

This gem is from the bay area, and is one of the best spots for real chinese cuisine in the Bay. Now that LA has one, I went to compare - and it does not disappoint and in fact lives up to the reputation of the original Bay spots. Look, at a place like this, you have to know what to order. The seasonal mushrooms dishes are all Yunnan specialities and you'll be hard pressed to find these dishes and authentic cuisine and ingredients anywhere else. And that's what you should be ordering. Order the unique sounding specialties. If you order that, it's 13/10, no notes. Its delicious. It will make your chinese bloodline truly happy. If you order some nonsense, then yeah, the dishes aren't great. We tried two of their pork rib dishes and I'll be honest- it ain't it. And the drinks - not it too. It's too watered down. But none of that mattered when the real stars of their cooking shine like a michelin star popping in your mouth. Also, their service was top notch for a Chinese restaurant. They actually removed charges for both pork dishes when they realized we didn't care for them. No arguments, just politeness. They were attentive, fast paced, packed our food for us, and apologized and smiled and this one girl especially was so sweet. 5/5 service. The only downside besides the pork is the WAIT. omg. I get that it's hype right now but waiting 1.5 hrs to be seated does suck lmao. And the parking lot is huge and free but it can get full. Not their fault on the wait. They are a victim of success. The restaurant is too small for the hype they have; they gotta expand hopefully soon. If it wasn't in freaking Rowland heights and I have to drive from Long Beach to eat there, I'd eat there weekly.
