I ordered the lunch combo plate with teriyaki chicken -- first time eating here and I'll never return. The chicken was little more than overcooked leftovers, more like pet food than human food and slathered with a cloying sauce straight from a can. The gyoza was deep fried (from appearances twice) and tough, and the California rolls were average. The tray my food was served on had about half of the faux-enamel coating washed away and looked like a dirty dish. The two waitresses working this lunch shift were lackadaisical -- bored, perhaps? The service was ok. We ordered the calamari rings, the kids bento box, ajimi combo, and combo #6. The waitresses that served were nice, but it took like an hour just to get the calamari, but keep in mind we came on Mothers Day for dinner, but what they lacked in service, they made up in the food! When the food arrived, it's fairly priced for what you get. The calamari rings were missing a piece, they were very bland and tasteless. The calamari was very soft and chewy, there was too much batter and the squid was very gummy. The aijmi combo, was DELICIOUS, the teriyaki chicken was very good. The tempura was perfectly battered and very crispy. The combo was so big that I was full! The sushi roll was very big! Salad was also included and it was fairly priced. The kids bento box, was fairly sized and included gyoza, sushi, teriyaki chicken, and a small salad. Everything was good, the gyoza was crispy on the outside and very tasty inside. Almost nothing to complain about, but my daughter wished there was more rice for the chicken. Combo #6 included spicy tuna rolls, rice, and tonkatsu. The tuna rolls were good, spicy but not too spicy. And the tonkatsu was also good but it was sometimes a little too hard. At the end of the meal they also gave us complimentary cream puffs filled with ice cream! Overall, great food would come again. read more

The owner has attitude and doesn't even say thank you as we leave. The McKinley roll is all rice with no fish. The udon is pretty good. The spicy teriyaki was just chicken with siracha sauce. The tempura sauce was just soy sauce. I do not suggest coming here unless you want udon. read more

I'm giving Ajimi a 2 star because of the horrible service we recieved. Truthfully, I absolutely love the food and the service we had before. But we went to Ajimi 11/23/2016 at around 6 or 7. We never go here at night usually during the day. Now I see why. It was slightly busy. Understandable. Ordered the Ajimi special salad and two orders of bento C. Waited about 15 minutes before we got the salad. It wasn't the salad I wanted, so I waited for someone to come by. Once I did I told the waitress with the short hair that this was the wrong salad and we wanted the Ajimi special salad which comes with the different type of raw fish and sauce. And the waitress tells me "oh she said you wanted the ajimi salad, let me check with her". At that moment I was questioning myself maybe I said it wrong. So I asked my husband if I might have just said the Ajimi salad. He said, he thought I said the special but couldn't be sure. I felt bad until the waitress who took our order originally came up and said in a rather irritated tone and inturrupted our conversation "you didn't order the ajimi special, you said ajimi salad." She did say something after that but I was too in shocked with her attitude. I got really fustrated after that. My husband kept saying don't let that ruin your night. So I tried. When we finished with our food, we waited for some time. So I just went up and went to pay for our food. Not evening getting the complimentary dessert. Which is whatever. I'm waiting to be helped and the waitress with the short hair was like you didn't wait for you bill. Put my bill down on the table in front of me. I asked if they do military discount. And she replied snitty. "Yeah, if you have an id." I replied with "ah yeah I do." Had to show her twice and she took off the discount and told me to sign and walks away. No tip. I was so disappointed when I left. I've been a waitress so I know how stressful it can be especially when it's busy. But I felt disrespected. My husband and I will never go there during the evening anymore. The staff in the day is super amazing and friendly. read more

Delicious sushi - some of the best I've had in a long while, and I have eaten sushi all over the country. When we arrived we were greeted promptly, sat, and given hot towels for our hands. Our water glasses were never empty, our sushi came super fast, and for the maybe 6 minutes we waited we were able to enjoy complimentary miso soup, egg, and potato appetizers. Can't wait to return and try another one of the large selection of rolls. read more

If given a choice, I'd say more like 4.5 stars, but for Fairbanks, I'll give it 5. Food is pretty darn good and the service has always been really friendly. Some of the rolls are a little pricy, but they are good. This is our favorite sushi place in Fairbanks. read more

My friend and I thought we'd try Ajimi since we haven't been there. It started out with edamame, miso soup, and gamja jorim. The miso soup was awful. I could buy powdered miso soup that'd taste better. It tasted watery. I'm unsure sure why they even had the gamja jorim because its better at literally any other korean restaurant. We had the chicken katsu and spicy tuna roll, with 2 yaki maguro. The chicken katsu was unbelievably dry and just lukewarm. It was bland and barely edible without tonkatsu sauce. Very dense and it looked dark, like the meat was old. The spicy tuna roll tasted like spicy mush, it had too much "spicy tuna" filling and it threw off the texture and the roll was sloppily made. It came with very little rice on the side. The yaki maguro didn't taste good. Looked and tasted like low quality tuna, the sear wasn't really a sear, and it was sloppily pressed, it looked separate from the rice when presented. We were served complimentary cream puffs which was he only redeeming quality of the meal, but those were probably pre-packaged anyways. My friend decided she wanted to try the tempura ice cream, and I thought this couldn't possibly be bad, how can you screw up tempura ice cream? Well they did. We had the green tea tempura ice cream. The ice cream tasted like it was made with water and had the texture of freezer burn. Had a very weak green tea flavor, could pick up better at the asian grocery store off Aurora. The tempura batter tasted like raw flour and was soggy. The insulation was straight up white bread, crusts and everything. Didn't even bother to use castella or another sweet bread. It was white bread and it made everything taste even worse. Go try your luck at Fuji or Fushimi. Virtually the same price and much better quality. read more

I love this restaurant. Most authentic Asian food I've found since being stationed in Korea. The service is excellent and they are quick to correct mistakes. The food is fantastic. The decor is very tasteful and not the over the top garish stuff you see in most Asian restaurants. Easily at the top of my list of favorites Fairbanks eateries. read more

This was the second time I ate here-once in November 2014 and again this past month (September 2015). The first time everything was spot on, though this past visit things seemed to have gone downhill. I am hoping it was just an off night. I ordered the Large Sushi Bowl, which contains a very generous heaping of mixed greens as a layer between the rice and fish. My mixed greens had turned and tasted awful. I had to ask for a plate so that I could pick away all of the greens (and, there were a lot). My waitress simply gave me a plate and said sorry. Then, another woman came and asked if I wanted more greens, though did nothing to address half of the meal was ruined. Additionally, the hand roll was very skimpy on the fish and too much rice. I did not have this experience last time, so I am giving it four stars as they do give you miso soup, a nice starter salad, warm towels and a cream puff thing at the end of your meal, and as I said the first time I visited it was all great. I just wished the service had been better and my dish had not contained bad spring mix! read more

I've been here in Fairbanks for two years now and this is my wife and I's favorite spot. That wouldn't be saying much because Fairbanks doesn't have the best selection, but any time we have visitors they get dragged to Ajimi and we haven't had any complaints. Hands down my favorite sushi spot of all time and after that achievement was earned, they came up with a new size of sake! Forget small and large sake, Ajimi has a super sake that doesn't financially make sense to ignore! It's a teapot. Flawless victory. The service is outstanding even when they're busy which is what made them stand out originally from the rest of the food joints in town, and the complimentary little appetizers are great. I personally love the mini version of their salmon sushi salad (not sure what it's really called, but you'll see what I'm talking about), and the miso soup is also delicious. Go there! Try every special roll on the last two pages! You won't regret it. Twenty dollars a roll sounds a little steep, but they're really big for a roll, and after all the little appetizers, a super sake and a Kirin, myself (moderately hungry 200 pound male) and my wife (5'2" tiny version) are pretty stuffed after sharing two of them. I must say, I'm impressed! I've been living in Vancouver, sushi capital of the NorthWest for the last few years and I'm pretty hard to please. Went there for the first time today for a late lunch, around 1:30. The place looks a tad sketch from the inside, but inside it's VERY comfortable, with a nice sushi bar, pleasant decor, wood flooring, nice daylight from the windows, etc. The owner let me in and seated me, the sushi chef greeted me, and the waitress was at my spot at the bar with hot towels for my little hands, complimentary miso, egg and potato appies before I had been seated for 30 seconds. The miso was average, but the appies were very tasty. I ordered a spicy salmon roll and a veggie tempura appetizer, and was delighted! First of all, when my roll was ready, the sushi chef handed it straight to me and didn't bother to wait for the server, which I always think is a nice touch. He also checked halfway through my meal to see if I was happy with everything. The salmon was MELTINGLY tender, the rice was just right (not too sweet), and they were generous with the avocado. The spicy sauce was tasty as was the mayo sauce. They were a teeny bit heavy handed with the mayo sauce, but I would imagine if you just ask them to dial it back a little they'd be more than happy to. It was artfully arranged, and the pieces were just the right size to pop in your mouth. There was a generous pile of ginger as well. The tempura was the best I've had in Fairbanks. Light as air, still warm, crisp and crackly, and the veggies were perfectly done. I left just full enough but not too full, and very happy! I can't wait to go back and try something else.
