We ate here shortly after moving to the area. I ordered the Hawaiian Poke Bowl with rice. They offer it with a couple types of fish. I chose tuna. I did not order it spicy, but that's an option. The fish was mostly very fresh (one or two pieces of the tuna were a little "fishy" tasting). The veggies were fresh and the flavor combo is great. We will definitely come back! read more

Only go here if you have at least 2+ hours to spare. We got seated at a table right next to the host stand and weren't greeted for over 15 minutes. Once someone did finally come over we gave them our drink and food order and didn't get our drinks for ANOTHER 15 minutes and ended up waiting OVER AN HOUR WITHOUT ANYONE COMING TO CHECK ON US before we left a $20 on the table and walked out. In my opinion, $20 was too much. Three other tables walked out besides us. We'd been there once before and there was only 1 other table there besides us so the service was good enough, and the food was SO good. Not much to look at from the outside, but once you're inside.. It's like you're somewhere else! The decor is nice and modern. The service was fantastic. Everything that we ordered was also super yummy. We ordered gyoza, a few sushi rolls, a combo box, and some bulgogi. One of the rolls was the Mt. McKinley and it was very delicious. I especially love rolls that have eel sauce and spicy mayo, wish it was a little spicier though. The fish was fresh and the meat was very delicious and well spiced. This place was one of the better places we tried in Fairbanks. It's expensive, but the food was decent. It's very hard to find a sushi roll on the menu that doesn't have spicy tuna (aka the cheap leftovers on the tuna skeleton) so that makes me resent the high prices a bit when that is your main ingredient in most of your sushi. On the plus side, the hot items were freshly cooked and insanely hot when they arrived at the table. The one sushi roll we were able to find that was not spicy tuna was tasty and well prepared. Delicious food and good service! We were cheerfully greeted by staff and promptly seated in the dining area. The attendant gave us hot towels for our hands first, then came back with our drinks and complimentary miso soup and two small food items (also complimentary). The menu contains a lot of options and we browsed in peace; the attendant was very attentive and knew the moment we were ready to place our order. I ordered the Alaskan King Roll (a 'special' roll, around $15 for 8 big pieces) and my husband ordered a sushi and nigiri combo (around $22 for 8 sushi pieces and 9 nigiri), and we got two pieces of yellowfin nigiri to share (can't remember price, but under $8). The presentation was spectacular, and the taste was wonderful. The ingredients were fresh and flavourful, the rice sticky enough to keep the sushi intact (but not so sticky that I couldn't bite my sushi pieces in half... they were massive), and all-around just a great meal. It has been a long time since we've had such good sushi and nigiri! We paid a total of $50.80 (before tip) and left feeling very full and VERY happy. I absolutely recommend that you give this place a visit. And as others have said: don't be put off by the plain appearance of the building. It's lovely inside; well lit and nicely decorated. It was great because it was complimentary but bad because we weren't expecting that much food and nearly walked out with food coma lol. Their rolls are huge, we ordered 3 to share between my husband and I- we were not expecting them to be as big as they were. We got the paradise, Las Vegas and tnt roll plus an appetizer called monkey brain. Very good and if you're concerned about price all sushi is pretty expensive here in fairbanks but Ajimi is one of the places that is worth it! We head over to Ajimi's whenever we want to treat ourselves to really good sushi. It's by far the best in Fairbanks. Waitstaff has always been courteous and usually speedy. We always order 3-4 rolls and share. We've never had a bad roll; although, we certainly like some more than others. The paradise roll: get out of here- so good. I've been tempted to eat the left behinds off other people's plate. The seating area is spacious and comfortable, and the place is always clean and orderly. Chefs always greet you as you come and go. Before you even order you're brought warm towels to clean your hands, miso soup and edamame. After ordering, you're brought a complementary salad. My husband and I have only had their sushi rolls but they've been fantastic every time. The presentation is so beautiful you don't even want to eat it! There's even great kids options. My daughter had a kids bento that had 4 California roll pieces, teriyaki beef, a fried dumpling and salad. Finally your meal is completed with complimentary cream puffs for dessert. Decor was dingy but it didn't phase me, as I had my heart set on eating sushi and wasn't going to let that stop me. We were seated by the waitress who greeted us in a monotone voice.
