So, I decided to try again. My daughter and I drove out to North Pole, I wanted to show her the house we lived in when she was a baby. On the way back she asked for dinner, in that teenage way of repeating she was hungry every 17 seconds. Anyway, we ate inside. The place was empty, however there was many takeout orders while we were there. We ordered the crab Rangoon, well because they happen to be the best I have ever had. Beef fried rice, that was honestly really good. And Peking beef, that was a bit different than I have had other places. Buy it was excellent. Overall, the quality of the food was great. The flavors were great, the soda was a bit flat, and the service was great. The chef came out and asked us if the food was good. It's worth a try, the portions are a bit small for the price. Fire Wok is the superior chinese cuisine in North Pole My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch to give this place a try. We were pleasantly surprised. The owners are very sweet and were very acute to our needs. The decor was simple but you felt comfortable sitting in to have a meal. Even though they don't pre-make anything the service was pretty fast. Lunch specials are under 10 dollars and come with white/fried rice, a spring roll, and a drink. I had the General Tso's chicken and she had the sesame chicken. Finally some good chinese food in North Pole. My Tso's chicken was fresh with good flavor and her sesame chicken had a hint of sweetness and was delicious. We will be coming back to try them at dinner. After tasting the fresh and never prepackaged food at Fire Wok you will never see me at Pagodas again. I mentioned to the owner that I hated Pagoda's and questioned why people saw them as "the best chinese food around." he guessed that people went back there only because they felt comfortable with Pagoda's style and are convinced to go there by some of it's fans. If you want take out, this is where I would go in NP. --Fresher than most take out Chinese, very lightly battered, good quality white breast meat for General's Chicken --no heavy nauseated post take out feeling after the meal --curry lo mein was a nice surprising change of flavor from reg lo mein --fried rice not recommended -- cinnamon apple appetizer AMAZING and highly recommended ( as dessert) We'll be back here for take out, would still go to the other restaurant in NP for sit in. read more

When people think of Chinese Food in North Pole they automatically think of Pagoda. However I was in the mood for something different and my son encouraged me to try the Fire Wok last night so we did. The Fire Wok is a quiet little Mom & Pop operation in the corner of a strip mall. The decor isn't anything fancy but it's quaint and not dingy. We were the only people in the restaurant so I was a little concerned. But as our meal progressed, several people came in to order food to go and happily waited for their orders. We ordered one of their family meals so that we could get a good variety. Although the meal was priced slightly higher than the same meal as Pagoda, you could tell that everything was freshly made with no pre-packaged ingredients. In fact, I'm fairly certain the only pre-packed items that we had were the soft-drinks and the soy sauce. The Sweet and Sour sauce was not the normal pinkish goo that you get at every chinese restaurant. I could tell by the texture and flavor of the sauce that this was original and authentic. The meal was brought out as individual entrees, each in their own little silver wok, which made a very big impression on me and my son. We loved the presentation of the food in the little wok portioned for two so that we ended up serving ourselves. The egg drop soup was not your basic chicken stock with a scrambled egg in it. This was a soup with flavor and a hint of asian spice. It was simple but definitely not the same soup every chinese restaurant offers. The Fried Rice also had more flavor than the Pagoda has had recently. We really enjoyed our experience at the Fire Wok and will definitely be back. The only complaint I really have is that we did not get a fortune cookie after our meal =( but other than that, everything else was great. Give it a try. read more

Wow. This might be the best Chinese I've had in Alaska. We were in visiting from Anchorage and decided to try it out. It was amazing. The food taste fresh and didn't have the 'frozen' or 'boxed' Asian food taste. It was freshly cooked and crispy. The rice was cooked perfect and wasn't stale. Overall, 5 out of 5. Ate here for dinner with my family and I have to say, the service was amazing. The server was super friendly and attentive. The food does not get as great of a rating. Nothing we ordered was very flavorful. The fried wontons were more like fried tortilla chips...luckily my kids love chips so that was one of the only plates cleaned. I have had a few different things from here. Orange chicken, sweet and orangey. General's chicken, a bit of a kick not much and lots of flavor. Mongolian beef, really nice flavor, crisp not soggy veggies. Vegetable lo mein, noodles had a nice flavor tender but firm and veggies were still crisp. Chicken lo mein, same thing as the vegetable but with chicken pieces in it and I hated the taste of the chicken in this, recommended regular veggie lo mein vs the chicken lo mein. 3 years of great service. Order was placed and 2 items where missing from delivery. The Mogolean beef was dry and tasteless. We called them back and got yelled at and we are told that we are rude on the phone. The issue was that the person taking the order handed the phone to the delivery driver mid- order. So my husband is basically a high end garbage disposal, but he could not stomach any of the dishes here at this restaurant. Especially the hot and sour soup. He gagged...huge disappointment. Just moved to this area, and am shocked to read all the positive, praising reviews on this restaurant. Pagoda is better than this restaurant, and decent at best. The food is pretty good and inexpensive compared to the other local options. I eat here often. What does bother me about this place is they ask if you would like to leave a tip on pick up orders. This is a fine little Chinese food restaurant. It's the first time in a decade since moving away from the LA area that I've been able to get good sesame chicken. Their fried rice is different, but good with a light flavor that doesn't overwhelm your taste buds. My wife found the same to be true of their food. The only thing that we are not wholly impressed by is their lo mein, it's made with a noodle that seems more European than Asian. Typical Chinese restaurant with mediocre the decorations but all you can drink fountain drinks. The owner is very friendly authentic Chinese guy speaks pretty good English. The food came out very quickly and it was hot and fresh but fried rice was a lacking in ingredients. I personally do not recommend the sodium loaded egg flower soup they given the very beginning.
