There are a few sushi places in Kitsilano (on 4th between MacDonald and Burrard) and Ajiya is hands down our favourite place to grab take out! We actually ended up eating in on Valentine's Day because your girl was having mad cravings. Prices here are pretty standard for Vancouver sushi and the quality (while not Tojo's/Minami freshness) is good for Vancouver sushi places (Vancouverites will know what I'm talking about!) We got the spicy combo which had spicy tuna roll, spicy salmon roll and a spicy dynamite roll. I like their spicy combo because it's a good spicy (not too spicy either) and their rolls with salmon and tuna have the crunchy tempura bits. We got an unagi roll this time which we enjoyed as well. I don't know if you can really have a bad unagi roll unless they skimp on the unagi! Our FAVOURITE that night was the seared toro aburi with a ponzo sauce. It was absolutely delicious and amazing. I am a sucked for aburi/pressed and seared sushi and this one hit every craving. This place was SO busy with take out orders and we were the only ones who ate in. Better than expected! My friend and I were in desperate need for some immediate sustenance on Good Friday afternoon, and all the places across the street (Danbo Ramen, etc.) had lines. Went into Ajiya as a last resort, not expecting much seeing as the place was deserted. (Later as I was waiting 3 groups came in all at once). Got the Summer and Philadelphia special rolls to go -- they were ready within a couple minutes. Was pleasantly surprised by the creativity of the Summer roll, although its contents were rather cheap (mainly imitation crab with a tiny core of salmon). The Philadelphia was as expected. Not the cheapest but not unreasonable. Wouldn't make a point of returning, but not bad as a quick alternative to lining up when in the area. Definitely Chinese-operated, by the way. read more

This restaurant is a simple place. But the food can surprise you. I ask a glass of wine and sashimi. The sashimi is the big one, but it was fresh and so good and I tried the seaweed salad and it was really good. It is the small one. The place is amazing and not so busy. On the menu, you will read a lot of good options but he best one was the takioaki, it was really good! You should try it :) The service is excellent, they are fast and fine. I was there today for the first time and witnessed an incident: a courier came in asked for their order was told to wait and he waited I believe roughly 15 minutes. Then he asked again and the worker started yelling at him "we are preparing it!" Like are you kidding? I used to deliver as well that's why I was paying attention: 15 minute wait time is long wait time and a courier should be told in advance. Also why are you so RUDE? Ordered the spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, Philadelphia roll & pressed salmon for pick up. Took about 20 minutes. The pick up went well easy and contactless. Had to go inside of the restaurant to get it unlike some places nearby that have everything set up outside which I think is a better method than being inside with other people. The spicy rolls were good and decently priced at 5.50 each and the specialty rolls were a bit expensive for what they were but that's to be expected with a specialty roll. Overall, would definitely order for pick up again, I probably wouldn't get the specialty rolls again though. It's in a great location within Kits. read more

I think this place is better than the other Japanese place a few blocks away on Burrard St. There are a lot of other eateries in the area but it must be decent if there was a lineup at noon. Amazing place! I think it deserves better rating than the one it currently has for the speedy and friendly service + freshness of food + quantity. My friend and I went here before our movie started and we were seated, served, and finished our meals within 30mins (and there were other patrons in the restaurant at this time). We ordered the spicy combo (22 pieces for only ~12$), miso soup, spinach app (forgot it's official name), and ageshi tofu. The sushi's were big and stuffed with fresh pieces of tuna and salmon. The tofu was my favourite out of all of the places I've eaten at - crunchy on the outside, soft yet firm to be able to hold its shape, and flavourful! Not bad, not great. A little disappointing. I ordered through a service, but there was no issue with temperature of the hot food. The sushi was packed in the same bag on top of all the hot food, which did leave that pretty warm. I have always known chicken karage to basically be chicken wings, and this is boneless chicken thigh I believe. Just not quite what I was expecting. The tempura was on point. I was really impressed with how well it held up for delivery. The bacon and scallop robata was pretty good. Scallops were a little small for all the bacon. The JJ roll was lacking any spice despite having spicy tuna in it and the salmon and avocado roll made spicy didn't have quite the kick I have come to expect. Maybe I'll give eat in a try next time? The first visit was due to hunger. It was great for a good meal quickly. Lots of vegetarian options. Went a few more times as it is local, and each time was very pleased - good food, always served quickly and warm, friendly staff, very reasonably priced. Now I am a regular, going a couple of times a week. Every time I bring someone they are also thrilled with their food! I have never tried take-away but they are very popular with many pickups from food order apps, so it must be just as good as their dine-in service. Great food, excellent service, wide variety in the menu and a very clean establishment. I feel very safe with their Covid protocols - masks when not eating, hand sanitizer available, they take your name and number, everyone is spaced apart. read more

A convenient location, spacious seating and seemlingly newly opened. It gets a fair share of customers, likely since it's near Burrard n 4th busy streets. The decors are typical, new and clean. The "deal" that I ordered was their spicy sushi combo, Tuna, Salmon and Dynamite all Spicy. For 10.50 that's a steal compared to most places in town, or so I thought. When the food arrived, the spicy sauce was more brown than red, rice loosely roll. So already I knew it wasn't a Japanese owned venue. Tempura was fresh and crunchy-which is rare since most places has it sitting and near cold and soft. However the dynamite roll was not tightly wrapped and the seaweed underneath was showing- meaning lack of quantity of rice. Of course it fell apart when lightly dipped into soy sauce (which it shouldn't if properly done). ***Keypoint: The Tuna and Salmon rolls were what I'd call a knockoff....instead of using chunks of tuna/salmon like everyone else in Vancouver/Japan(former residence) they mash their tuna / salmon and mix in tempura CRUMBS. !!There was hardly any fish in their rolls!! *** The sauce...Hoissen sauce with a little bit of spicy sauce added. Hoissen sauce is a common sweet sauce used in Chinese cooking (sometimes for dim sum with the doughnut rice noodle rolls). So this left me crunchy sweet "Tuna &Salmon" rolls. 1star for not providing Tuna and Salmon where ordered + 1 star for quantity and friendly (but slow) service Will never return. read more

Tried a couple times 4 months apart, about the same quality. It's better than Safeway sushi but not as good as Hi Nippon. Is it possible to miss rice in a roll? Cause I did. They were chincy on the amount of rice in a roll. The cheese in the philly roll was overpowering and you can't taste anything else. After the second incident with this place, I'm voting with my dollar and not going there by any circumstances. First, a few weeks ago I was charged twice for the sushi, because of the mistake of the waitress. When I came back the next day with the bank statement asking for a refund, first, I was refused, then I was asked to give private financial information, then they refuse to give money back on the same card I've paid with and gave back cash. My mistake was to count money outside of the place. Needless to say, there were less than supposed to be. A few weeks later decided to give this place another chance. They mixed up my order, said it was actually what I've ordered and when I showed them an image from their own online menu, the cook, who was also standing behind the till along with the waitress, started yelling at me. Stopped in here for a quick bite during moving day (Sept 1) and left full, satisfied, and excited to try out more of their menu! I had the simple salmon & tuna combo, but wasn't expecting the melt-in-your-mouth quality that I received. The fish was fresh and the rolls had the perfect rice to fish ratio. I had sashimi for delivery from this restaurant. They should stop collaborating with skip the dishes. We almost decided to not order from them anymore after using the app once (they cancelled the order twice). We had nice salmon and tuna and shrimp and etc for the assorted sashimi. The fish tasted fresh. However, the octopus was too hard to chew, causing momentary inability to speak. The wasabi was amazing - squishy, fun to play with, and moldable. Also, please keep wasabi and the sashimi in a separate place (perhaps with a piece of plastic) because my friend is severely allergic to wasabi and could not consume the end pieces. read more

The food is good but don't bother with the delivery. We were quoted 45 minutes for our food to arrive and an hour and 10 minutes later still nothing. Called the restaurant only to be told that it would be another 10 minutes before the food would leave the restaurant. An hour and a half just to get the food out the door is a bit ridiculous. If you can't provide faster service than that you would be better to not offer delivery at all. We won't order again. read more
