Ambiance: don't let this hole-in-the-wall exterior discourage you from trying this sushi spot out! intimate sushi restaurant with sushi bar and tables that can seat two to four patrons per table. Minimalistic but very Japanese-esque Service: very helpful and friendly staff and sushi chefs. They were very warm people Food: The appetizer is everything delicious put on the most addicting fried rice paper and seaweed chip. What a way to start the meal. Having been to Japan several times myself, the fish here are very fresh and naturally sweet. It is hard to find sweet uni that isn't fishy as well as good tuna that tastes like the ones I've had in Japan. This place does it right. On top of solid sashimi, the shio Koji ice cream is not like any flavor you've ever had before. There is a deep caramel and umami flavor that tastes both familiar but new at the same time. Overall, very pleasantly surprised that such a gem is in the same plaza as the laundromat. Can't wait to come back and try their ~$67 lunch omakase

Akami Sushi has been on my list for a while and it definitely lived up to the line wait I always see driving by. We ordered the sushi set and a rainbow roll. The fish tasted really fresh, and you could tell they use quality ingredients. I also liked the balance of fish to rice. The pieces weren't huge, but they also weren't tiny, so every bite felt just right. The tuna on the rainbow roll had a really nice deep red color and everything tasted clean and fresh. The restaurant is clean and modern, and the staff was attentive throughout our meal. The only downside is that it's a pretty small space, so it can feel a little a busy crowd, especially when there's a wait. I'd definitely be waiting to try more.

Akami has easily become my most frequented restaurant this year and for good reason! The quality and price cannot be beat. I ALWAYS get the sashimi premium combo because it comes with uni and the best ikura (not in the deluxe set)! I have noticed that the fish selection changes time to time, but it's always delicious. What we ordered: sashimi premium arcadia roll uni mazemen The restaurant is small and easy to miss, but the service and ambiance are always on point. Make sure to utilize the yelp waitlist since it gets busy on the weekends.

Had the most amazing omakase experience yesterday for my gfs bday. $150/pp. Steep but well worth it. The best omakase I've ever had. See pics for the full experience. Service was exceptional. Comfortable, cute, quaint boutique like restaurant. Thank you Akami!

Overall, everything was really good and we had a great experience here. We ordered the black cod, hand rolls, sushi deluxe, and one of the specialty rolls. Everything was delicious and tasted fresh. The black cod hand roll was so flavorful and especially good. Service was also amazing. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcomed throughout the meal. My only feedback is about the uni. In my opinion, it was not the best on the day we visited and tasted bitter from what I usually expect. Other than that, everything else was great and I would definitely come back.

One of the best sushi spots in Arcadia! Seating is limited, expect a wait, especially on weekends. Parking is limited in the lot, but there's ample residential street parking. You can't go wrong with any items here, we especially love: Chirashi - love the mix of fish and the well seasoned rice. It's become my new fav chirashi spots Nigiri - if I'm not doing a chirashi, I'm either going with nigiri or a sushi set Sushi set - if you can't decide, go with this or the chirashi bowl - both comes with miso soup and side dishes (so bomb)

A couple of my friends mentioned how good this spot is & I had to take my mom for Mother's Day to try for ourselves since she loves sushi. The small lot has crowded parking, but there's street parking and I was very lucky. It's a small mom & pops place, which usually is a great sign for sushi. Because seating is quite limited, reservations for omakase (really good value) at the bar is recommended & definitely get on the Yelp waitlist as soon as you're within 2 miles or you will be in for a wait. The staff here is knowledgeable about the menu so don't be shy about asking for their specials. We waited 15-20 min, but I will say the food is so worth it. Must tries, crispy bites, king crab chawanmushi, black cod handrolls, the bluefin burrata. Everything tasted excellent, which is rare. Even the ice cream made in house was phenomenal & I'd go back just for that.

I've passed by Akami Sushi over a thousand times but never wanted to try because of the outdated exterior located within a small plaza that's shared with a sus looking massage parlor. However, I was told they remodeled so I decided to try. Definitely the best decision ever because my favorite Otoro was so fresh and the Wagyu sashimi was just perfect! Prices are reasonable and the service was excellent. It was a 9/10 - highly recommended!

The staff were incredibly friendly, the food was amazing, and the restaurant had such a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. 100% recommend!

I've come here twice now and am glad to have found this restaurant. The fish quality is great and the price is reasonable. The parking lot is tiny, but there's street parking in the residential area. The restaurant is small with some tables and bar seating. The staff are attentive and and service was pretty quick. I've tried the omakase and I definitely recommend it. There's a $125 and $175 option for omakase, with the difference being the number of pieces. My group wasn't super hungry so we picked the $125 and we were very full at the end. I also got the matcha lychee highball. It's easy to drink and you don't notice the alcohol. I came a second time to order from the menu. The omakase had a small bowl of their mentaiko mazemen that was so good, we came back to order the entree. I also tried the chirashi. All the fish is seasoned so you don't need soy sauce. The rice is also seasoned. The fish was fresh and the portion size is pretty big. Also tried their scallop carpaccio which was very buttery smooth. The matcha creme brulee was a miss for me. It's very strong in matcha flavor (which I like), but the consistency was too soft. I think when they caramelized the sugar, the custard heated up too much so it was more runny than thick. Definitely coming again to explore more of the menu.

For 2, we ordered sushi deluxe, mentaiko pasta, mixed tempura, akami don set, and salmom handroll. My favorite would be the sushi deluxe's chutoro. It was soft and melted in my mouth. They let you choose between tuna or negitoro for the sushi roll in the sushi deluxe but negitoro is an additional $3 The mentaiko pasta tasted like the sea. Although im not a fan of uni or roe it was good. Akami don set came with yellow tail sashimi and after you finish the fish, yoh can tell them and they will add soup in it for you to finish off the rice. I wished they gave more seaweed to make a baby handroll for the akami don though. The tempera was light and crispy but it was hard to eat the enoki because it was 1 big piece. I also like soy paper now so i tried the soy paper handroll with salmon. It was good but eel is probably better for soy paper rolls. Service here was really good. They explained why the bar was blocking off the view as akami opened during covid time so they had to block the view from customers and chef. It would be too expensive to change so maybe in the far future they will be able to. Parking is very small but you can either park in the back or on the streets.

    Sushi & Sashimi Lunch Special
    Samantha L.

Came on a weekday at noon. Right at 12 the every seat in the restaurant was filled, and there's a reason why! I came for the lunch special specifically the sushi & sashimi plate. I'm a big fan of variety and this lunch special really hit the spot! The fish is fresh & there's not too much rice in each bite. The sides are also a big plus too. Overall, having lunch here did not disappoint!!

The Hojicha Panna Cotta, though, was amazing and easily the most memorable item of the meal. It was also a lot of food for three people, and we probably could have ordered one less dish. The service and atmosphere were the biggest highlights for me. The staff was immediately welcoming and helpful in explaining the menu and popular items. The owner/chef was also very lighthearted and friendly, and the whole restaurant had a communal, neighborhood feel. Even around closing, everyone seemed relaxed and was enjoying their time together. Overall, the food was good, but I did find it expensive for what we ordered. I'd still come back for the atmosphere, service, and Hojicha Panna Cotta, but I'd be more mindful of how much I order next time.
