Great latin food. It was empty when I went here on a Sunday. I decided to spluge on a la carte items. I had a pupusa, yuca frita, queso frito with plantains. The food was great. Got a drink. Ordered a pupusa plate... and they take forever. The cacao drink was good and servers were nice. But it took too long. So we just paid for drinks and left. This is worse than El Zocalo. But at least in El Zocalo, they give you chips and salsa while you wait. read more

It's hard to find good Nicaraguan food in SF, so I was surprised when I found this restaurant. Last winter I got sick with the flu and had the greatest desire to just eat some beef soup, the way my mom use to make it. I happened to pass by Al Fin restaurant and decided to give it a chance. Let me tell you, when I got back home and ate that soup, I instantly felt warm and comforted. The flavors were just right. It literally made me feel like I was a little kid again. The venue felt like being in some nice restaurant in downtown Managua, Nicaragua. The only complaint we had was slow service. I suspect that the owner was under staffed. Went here one day with my littler brother.. I ordered their pupusas & a chicken taco. I must say they are delicious especially the chicken taco. Never had a chicken taco like this one! On the other hand, my little brother ordered the Carne Asada Burrito which was also the bomb! Really different from other latin restaurant. However, i also ordered their wonton appetizer which was burnt, never getting that again. Still, I like it here! I came here for take out pupusas and fried plantains. Both were good portions and awesome tasting. When I got home I was diappointed that the pupusas didn't include the cabbage side or salsa. There was no crema for the plantains either. I would have checked the bag or asked if it was included but I assumed that it was standard with my order. This place used to be good at some point but it has become worst and worst with time, I stopped eating there because of the bad quality food, small portions and high prices, me and my husband decided to give a second chance but it failed horribly again. There are two restaurants that i love that serve tradional nicaraguense cuisine. Al fin located in daly city along with oye managua in sf. Al Fin serves the best appetizers along with entrees. I was skeptical at first, but when i tried their steak with chimi churry sauce atop. My mind was reset and my taste buds were delighted. I continue to come here every so often. We were starving and saw the sign for pupusas so decided to give it a try. It was Sunday around 1:30 pm. The restaurant was nearly empty and yet it took forever to get our food. The pupusas were around $2 but I've had better. The husband ordered the $12 steak encebollado and though the steak was good, it was a measly portion and totally not worth the price. I tried the Nicaraguan tamale. Right before they served it, I swore I heard the microwave go off. The tamale was kinda gross looking though the pork inside did taste good. I have just had the WORST customer service experience. First the server left the table but didn't take my order after getting the ones for the rest of the table. When I did order my vegetarian pupusas I was given 2 with meat. When I went to tell the server there was a mistake her response was that I ordered ones with meat and how is she to know I do not eat meat when I said I would not order meat due to my diet. Great food. If licking the plate weren't so inappropriate in a public setting, I would have. The nacatamales are excellent. The fish plates are delicious, as well. They are always rude here! They act as if they know your coming to spend your money and the food is decent so they act very "Americanized". I understand small family owned businesses need to thrive for their dollar but you don't need to be rude about it. To top it all off you have to repeat your order several times for them to understand what exactly your asking for. Update: I'm docking a star from my review because the last time I went back I noticed that something had definitely changed about my favorite dish (the super burrito with shrimp, which I think is not even technically on the menu anymore). It was good, but not quite as wonderful as I remember it, and the price definitely made that drop in quality feel disappointing. Hmm... A co-worker suggested we check this place out one evening when we were at work late and needing something to eat, so we trooped over and fell in love. We've been back a bunch of times since and have yet to be disappointed. I've had their fried fish filet (with rice, beans, and salad) a couple times, which is excellent, and I had their chile relleno last time, which was decent but not exceptional. Today, though, was the real hit--I tried their super burrito with shrimp, and let's just say that if the place it took me wasn't heaven then it had to be the cloud next door. I'm also completely sold on their coyolito, a carrot-ginger juice drink that's mind-bogglingly tasty...sweet but with a little warmth and bite from the heavy dose of ginger. Mmmm... Add to this their super-friendly and attentive service, and they've got a lock on my business. I can't address questions of authenticity, but with food this delicious, well...I just don't give a damn. I haven't had trouble with parking when I've driven here, though I tend to come during off-hours. Went there a couple of times before with a friend and the place looks really clean and the chef Al is a very nice guy. The place is cute and there is parking in the back. That can be a little tricky to find if it's your first time parking or you can always park in the front and feed the meter if your threre before 6 pm on weekdays and Saturday or park for free on Sunday. Oh yeah the platillo with fried yuca rocks. It's the only place that I have found so far that offers fried yuca and I am able to take a girl on a date to. The place is somewhat nice for a date. However nothing super fancy either. Dessert here rocks you have to try the award winning flab ymthat the chef makes. read more

Pupusas are so BOSS!!! I get the mix plate which comes with rice, re-fried beans, and 2 pupusas, which I usually get one cheese and zucchini, and one cheese, beans and pork. Its a family run establishment, so don't go in here expecting 5 star service where they practically feed you the food. The waitress that we had was very nice and brought us our food and drink really quick. The food was so good. Try out this place. I have driven by this place soo many times wanting to try it. I am part Nicaraguan so when it was cool to compare all the food to what my grandma cooks. I ordered the 2 pupusas dinner (Two Meat and cheese). I ended up getting one of each which I wasnt going to complain about. I felt the one thing missing with my dinner was the hot salsa for the pupusas. One thing I didnt like was I felt the food was very salty. I must have drank 4 glasses of water. Had an enjoyable dinner here. Lots of food for the price, and fresh and tasty: Churrasco steak, yummy pupusas, fried plaintain and fried cheese. Only my "fried" pork was a little salty, so I was glad the rice with beans wasn't too salty and balanced it out. The side salads weren't just an afterthought: there were different types and very fresh and tasty. The food wasn't real hot/spicy but there was a hot sauce and a couple spicy salads given on the side to add to taste (good for someone like me who can't take too hot!) Ate here with a friend. My parents bought a groupon and gave it to me to use it. I searched on yelp about the restaurant and read reviews regarding the use of the groupons. Apparently, they have this policy where they are only receiving three groupons a day. Luckily, we were probably the first ones there. I ordered the pupusa con carne asada. It was alright. The pupusa I got had mixed pork, beans and cheese. They were great. The carna asada was cooked great but seemed a little small. Anyways, what I really liked about the place were the pupusas.
