The coziness and vibrant atmosphere of the Alamo Café welcomed us. We were very fortunate to get 2 spots on the counter - right in front of the grill! I'm mesmerized and enticed by the bacon, sausages, linguiça, corned beef, home fries, eggs... Lots of great choices for breakfast, but I wanted to try the linguiça! It did not disappoint. Breakfast was yummy and coffee was good. Our server was very professional, personable, and efficient. He was quick to refill my coffee when he saw it half empty. I would really not recommend coming here because there is a really long wait, it's very expensive, it's very crowded, and the food is not really that good. Great place. I ate here with my son a week ago and have never seen him not finish a portion of pancakes, until now. The pancakes were substantial and really tasty. I had the eggs Benedict and they were awesome. A real cozy old school diner, the grill right out there for all to see. 2 stars because the food IS pretty tasty. I love their bacon, which is the ONLY reason I have been back more than a few times. After this week however, even yummy bacon won't bring me back. The customer service or COMPLETE LACK OF, is such a turn off. Don't get me wrong, I COMPLETELY understand this is a small, greasy spoon restaurant. It's priority is definitely NOT customer service. With that said, there is such an ENORMOUS difference in how "regulars" are treated versus non-regulars or brand new customers. There is little direction when you walk in to the very cramped place. There are only 4 actual tables, each with 4 chairs which are often occupied by "the regulars" hour after hour, enjoying the free coffee refills. The majority of seating is at the counter, I believe 12 seats. If you go in to eat alone you'll likely always get a seat. Otherwise you can stand in a 2x2 space and hope the solo server pays some small bit of attention to you and explains how it works...(you wait, vie for a seat as a table clears out) This process is a little annoying, you are never at any point more than 10 feet from being face to face with the server, the place is only 25 feet long if that. AGAIN, LET ME REITERATE I KNOW THIS IS NOT KATY'S OR EVEN DENNY'S, but damn, show people a little respect, a little courtesy. Don't leave customers standing, usually with the door open because there is not even space to close the door if even 2 people are waiting... I guess I'm more unhappy that it is so obvious the favoritism shown to those "regulars". Right in front of us, the customers sitting at the counter, were actually asked to move down a space to free up 2 seats for the "regular" (you know because they are addressed by name and proceed to have personal dialogue about the family, etc.) I'm ok with the asking to move down thing except that it was not done for us and we were ahead of them!!! We were not ever offered that option, just stood there...we were never asked to put our name on the list, even though there was no other group waiting, not that we could see. Just a matter of principle, we won't give them our $$$ anymore. It's not cheap either, if that's the excuse for the lack of hospitality, about $12 per person for a standard breakfast, bacon, eggs, potatoes & toast. The coffee here SUCKS. Bring your own, there's a little coffee house next door or Starbucks down the street, if you do brave this place. IF YOU DO GET YOUR MEAL, SPECIFICALLY EGGS, AND THEY ARE NOT COOKED TO YOUR LIKING BE PREPARED TO BE MADE TO FEEL LIKE THE BIGGEST JERK IN THE WORLD IF YOU DARE SEND IT BACK. THAT GOES FOR ANYTHING YOU ORDER THERE. THEY EXPECT YOU TO SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, EAT WHATEVER YOU'RE GIVEN AND GET OUT. THAT'S THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH. I typically ask for my eggs over-medium and get them over hard. If I didn't want the yolk I'd ask for a hard boiled egg! read more

I love Alamo Cafe! It is the best breakfast I've had in the bay area! It's small inside, but I've never had to wait longer than 10 or 15 mins for a seat. The Pisano is the perfect breakfast to split between 2 people :) It never disappoints! read more

We have had dinner here three times and every time the service has been spot on. We have cleaned our plates on each visit. The beer selection is a bit slim, but they have all of the basics. The atmosphere is comfortable and it is not very loud. Not a bad choice for a family of four with two young girls. read more

Favorite for locals for a good reason - great short order cooks make great simple diner food - honest bacon and eggs. Go for local color if nothing else. First time here and I'm definitely coming back! It was a little small but I kind of enjoyed it. There are bar seats and about four tables. I don't recommend bringing more than 4 people. There is not much space for a bigger party. Our server wasn't very personable but she wasn't mean. The one thing I really love about this place is that everything is made fresh! You can see the chef cooking all the food right behind the counter! I ordered two eggs (over-easy) with bacon, homefries and a small pancake. I wasn't too impressed with the pancake although my bf loved it. But everything else was exceptional. The eggs were cooked perfectly, my bacon was crispy and the homefries (ohhh my gosh!) that was the best part. They were fried with oil but not too oily and some parts were browned and crispy. It was simply amazing. If you want breakfast definitely check this place out! They have lunch too and their lunch menu looked delicious. Can't wait to try that out sometime read more

Great, small diner. We go here frequently (4 of us, 2 kids) and always have a good meal. It's hard to find these types of old-school establishments, especially in a place like Alamo. Note the place is small and you'll often wait for a table. Was there on Sunday and it has not changed. Same slow service, the cook had 8-10 tickets at a time . Had 4 cups of coffee waiting for my food to come out (45 min). Watched the regulars get favored over everyone else. The food was ok, its not too hard to make Eggs, Bacon and toast. Nations breakfast is pretty much what you get here. read more

This Breakfast place was awesome!!! Last time I came in here was in December 2008 since then they totally remodeled this place and it looks great!! Their Eggs Benedict and their Randy's Special is the best!! Also my kids had the Mickey Mouse Pancakes and Biscuits and Gravy. My family enjoying coming here all the time. My boyfriend and I had breakfast at the Alamo Cafe last week. The breakfast was terrible. The pancakes were hard to cut and tough. The egg omelete was so greasy and didn't even taste like eggs. To top it all, the waitress was not friendly, and we were so happy to finish what we could and leave. We will never go back there again. The greasy taste stayed in our mouth for the majority of the day. :-( read more
