Great little place for a hearty trucker's-style breakfast... You never leave here hungry.

Ordered two eggs with bacon and whole wheat toast. Five stars for cooking the eggs the way I asked, but home fries were cold upon delivery. The two people that work there seem to be the most unhappy people on the planet. Never said more than a few words to any of the customers. The cook never even looks at the customers. Solid old school breakfast spot. Nice long counter with a couple of small tables. The waitress is nice, attentive + efficient! The food is standard, eggs, nice selection of meats. I was there with my father in law + he like a hamburger patty sometimes for breakfast, for him the sign of a good breakfast spot if a breakfast spot offers that. We enjoyed ourselves + will be back. This review is for 1/1/16. Let me start off by stating that I've been in the service industry for last 13 years and currently run my own bartending business. So I know what proper service standards are. Alamo Cafe, unfortunately you do not. On New Year's Day, my wife, my two year old daughter, and myself visited the cafe, which we've done many times before. As usual, the cafe was full. No seating available, but that's ok. Sometimes the wait is part of the experience. We also decided to wait because we enjoy the food and tables typically turn quick. After NOT being greeted, we stood in the doorway. All the while the server was maneuvering around us. After about 15 minutes of standing, without a proper greeting, offer of coffee or water, or an estimate of how long we'd be waiting, we noticed that no food was coming out. Ticket times must have been at 25 minutes. After sitting down at the bar top, we still did not receive even a friendly, "hello." In addition, there was only one menu for four of us to share. Things had progressively gotten worse. All in all, we waited inside the cafe for twenty to thirty minutes before standing up and leaving. As we left STILL no one said anything to us! As someone who takes pride in serving others, the owner of Alamo Cafe should reevaluate what their doing. I will add that, I understand New Year's Day is a VERY hectic day for any restaurant that's open. However, you're never too busy to greet your guests. We're the reason your restaurant is open... Soooo, I don't know how I've managed to go to this place at least once a month for the last 8 years buuuut I just tried the chorizo and eggs today for the first time and just realized that it was the best meal I quite possibly have had this year. Huge mistake...I love homey small town diners but this place isn't that great...if you need to come here then avoid sitting at the table by the door, the cold hurricane force winds that come through the constantly opening and closing door will leave you with cold food, napkins flying off your table and people bumping into you as they come and go. Food is typical, nothing to rave about. The bathroom is way to difficult and inconvenient to get to, the angry cook has to move in order for you to get to it and he's not happy about it at all. Our group of 4 people arrived at 10am on Sunday with only a party of 2 people in front of us, great right? Wrong, seated at 10am and completed at 11:45am...almost 2 hours for eggs and bacon...and 8 cups of coffee while we waited. No thanks read more

My husband & I discovered this cute little place recently; he drives past it each morning on his way to work. We had an excellent first experience, delicious food, friendly service. My husband went back a few times and enjoyed his breakfasts, until this morning. He saw the cook/waitress reach into the fridge for a huge handful of bacon, which she tossed onto the grill. After that, she handled toast, spice bottles, plates and napkins, and filled salt & pepper dispensers, all without washing her hands. Ick. Visited Alamo with my dad. I ordered the breakfast burrito, he ordered the two eggs meal. The waitress (never caught her name), was the only person working. She took care of our order quickly and expertly, all while pouring coffee, washing dishes, and making about 4 other peoples orders! Prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was cozy. When a regular walked in, she had his coffee for him almost as soon as he sat down, which tells me all I needed to know about this place and it's customer service. If I'm ever in the area again, I will return. read more

VERY small place, but kept very clean, even the kitchen space which is clearly seen from any seat inside. The food was amazing! Traditional American breakfast with some other great options. Service was great; friendly, polite, and quick. Prices are great for the amount of food is served. The only downfall is there's no bathroom available. read more

I've been to the Alamo Cafe many times and I'm a little confused by the reviews. It's my second choice (maybe third) in the area. If you're looking for classic greasy spoon, this is the place to go locally. I don't mean that in anything but the most complimentary way. I don't expect anything more than that. It's sort of fun to watch the local regulars gather and grouse over their coffee, but the food is average at best. Maybe I've never ordered their very best dishes. Anyway, the most I'd ever give the place is three stars. read more

This breakfast spot is a local favorite that has regulars coming in at 6:00am to have coffee/breakfast while they read the morning newspaper. Sure there are other breakfast joints with "better" food, but they usually lack the quaint family owned vibe that Alamo cafe has. Service is always great and very friendly. My go-to order is biscuits and gravy with Jimmy Dean Sausage. If you're looking for friendly people and good diner food, this is the place. read more

Our families favorite greasy spoon! We love the breakfasts here. One daughter always gets the corned beef hash and is never dissapointed! Other daughter gets the vegetarian version with just the red skinned potatoes with onion and bell pepper and always gobbles them up. She also loves the coffee. For me, the biscuit and gravy is a favorite as is their delish bacon. I also love that they carry not only 2% but also whole milk (which I try not to indulge in on a regular basis but it's a nice treat to go with my yummy meal here). read more

Went here for breakfast today after reading all the good reviews. After eating, I'm not really sure what warrented all the great feedback. The yolks in my eggs benedict were hard, the homefries had a weird plasticy taste to them and the other two people with me didn't enjoy their food either. Definitely won't be going back. read more

Not my favorite. I ordered juevos rancheros and it felt like they scooped the refried beans out of a Rosita can and put some Pace Picante salsa on top. I could have made it better from home. The people are friendly and I hate to give such a poor review, but my food was blah. read more

This place is an actual diner - not a Johnny Rockets wannabe type. You can expect your standard breakfast and lunch items here (biscuits and gravy, pancakes, french toast, omelets, burgers, "specials of the day", etc) - of course, if you would like to upgrade your sausage to "Jimmy Dean", that will cost you $1 extra - but well worth it! I am a fan of their blueberry pancakes, as they have the cooking time perfected - unlike several places where you can end up with some funky batter in your mouth if the blueberry/batter ratio is off. The place is small - 4 tables and approximately 10 diner seats (oops - I guess next time I should actually count them?). But don't let that deter you from trying this place out. There are several "regulars" that inhabit one corner table on most mornings - but they are harmless, a bunch of "guy's guys" talking about their home improvement projects and the like. The staff is kind and attentive and quick to get your coffee refilled....a must for any true diner! read more

Sat there for 45 minutes at the breakfast bar right behind cook. When we asked how much longer, the waiter started searching for our tag and said "it must of been flipped" whatever that means and found it laying on the counter. We went next door to Chrubini's Coffee House told them what happened and that we had to be somewhere they prepared our meal to go in five minutes with a free side of fruit!!! First time eating here. The place is real small but seems to be a local cafe which was nice. I ordered the eggs Benedict which was ok but the hollandaise sauce was nice and hot which I love. The ham was like lunch meat and usually you get real ham or canadian bacon. Wouldn't go back because of the size of the place and food was ok but the place was cute. read more

Came here for a quick breakfast. This is a definite go to local breakfast spot. Ordered the breakfast burrito which consisted of egg, sausage, cheese. Pretty good and satisfying. The country potatoes were way too greasy to eat, coffee was good and service prompt. Was alittle weird that they didn't have a restroom, so make sure you don't drink alot of coffee. I have such fond memories of coming to this place as a child, though the ownership may have changed since then. My childhood neighbors own the land that the Hay & Grain sits on next door and their mom would always say, "Who wants to go to the Greasy Spoon??" They had a henhouse so their visits to the Hay & Grain were frequent, and I always looked forward to a ride along that included a stop at this joint. This place is a real deal diner (of which there are not many in this part of California). Coming here is a bit like stepping back in time somehow. Our new breakfast place! We were looking for a breakfast spot and are so tired of mediocre so I went on Yelp to search out a new place. After seeing all the boring ones, came across Alamo Cafe and decided to go. We waited about 10 minutes for a seat at the counter and it reminded us of Faye's Dinky Diner in Wisconsin. I opted for bacon, eggs and potatoes and could not have been better if I'd made it myself. My son had the breakfast sandwich and the look on his face as he was eating the last half was priceless. I haven't seen him eat that slowly in forever! It was very reasonably priced and we'll become regulars. Finally somewhere worth going out for breakfast. read more
