She actually told us if we want ranch we have to pay for it (which I totally get if we didn't order food that you eat with ranch). They're quick and the seafood is crispy and perfectly cooked every time. Because it's fried, your food's usually ready in 5-10 mins if you call ahead. They keep the fried goods separate (and heated) until you show up, then they'll build your to-go bag in front of you. Lots of good combos and seafood-only options, you can mix-and-match really easily. Their tartar sauce is great! Only issue, I would prefer normal cocktail sauce to their blend, which appears to be ketchup and a mild hot sauce (Frank's maybe?). Ok... here we go.... was craving some good fried fish yesterday afternoon, and stopped at this spot (after driving by it for 15+ years.) The first thing I mentioned was "oh.... I remember when this used to be H. Salt Fish & Chips", and the new owner (I assume), not very personable by any stretch of the imagination starts arguing with me, that it was never H. Salt. Umm... I'm 100% sure that it was H. Salt previously. So, I decide, I'm not going to even look at that lady because she is either having a bad day, or something terrible has happened to her in her life, and she's angry and bitter. So, the chef was awesome (I will only talk to him if I ever go there again), and he explained that the business has been in the same location since 1965. I ordered 3 pieces of fried cod fish, and it was pretty damn good. Before I ordered, I asked "is the fish previously frozen?" Answer: Yes. Next question: "Do you actually batter the fish here in house?" Answer Yes. So, 3.5 stars for the fried fish, 1-star for the rude (or bitter) lady who was running the restaurant. 4-stars for the location.... I was craving fish and chips since I haven't had them in a long time. I happened to be in Huntington Beach when the craving hit so I went on Yelp and Google. I saw this place was pretty highly rated at practically 5 stars so I decided to check it out. The old name of H Salt was still outside but this was definitely the place. Parking is readily available and I got there before the lunch rush. I was really hungry so I ordered the 4 piece fish and chips and a bottle of English style malt vinegar. The order comes with a fairly large serving of tartar sauce too. The place is owned by an Asian family and they were very nice. Waiting time was about 10 minutes and they called out my name when ready. I was pleasantly surprised that the fish pieces were huge! The fish is Alaskan cod in case you're wondering. Excellent value for a price of $11.49 for the 4 pieces. You have a choice of having your chips salted or not. On to the fish which was really good. Just the right crunch and not heavy batter coating it. Some places have their fish dripping in so much oil but not here. It took me a while to finish the meal in one sitting and I was full the rest of the day and didn't eat dinner. Next time I'll settle for a 2 piece. I'll definitely be back for more! Yum! read more

They deep fried it on the spot. The batter of the fish was thin, light, and crispy while the fish inside was flaky, soft, buttery-like, & tender. You can easily get full off of two.
