    Nice bright interior!

We've been searching for solid teriyaki since moving back to San Diego from Seattle and the search has been rather fruitless thus far. We were in the area and though we weren't quite ready for dinner, the 15% off offer for their soft opening drew my interest. I then looked the place up on Yelp and the pictures SPOKE to me. This has happened before, though, so I held my excitement in check. Was immediately greeted by the cashier and I ended up ordering a teriyaki plate and mango habañero teriyaki plate. The cashier said it'd take about 10 minutes, which it did. While I was waiting, he also offered me a cup of ice water, which was awesome. When he handed me the takeout order, I was immediately struck by how heavy the bag was. It smelled incredible, but in my experience, large portions equates to lower quality, so again...I tempered my expectations. Without exaggeration, each container had to have been about a pound and a half. Opened the containers in the car and was immediately struck by how incredible it looked and smelled. Great char on the chicken and sauce thick enough that it clung to each piece. Each order came with a small cup of steamed veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots with a white sauce) that whet the appetite nicely. The first bite of chicken and rice...divine. Absolutely incredible. WE HAD FOUND AMAZING TERIYAKI OUTSIDE OF SEATTLE. the chicken was flavorful, smoky, sweet, tender, and moist. I'd intended to just have some for a snack but the whole family started devouring it and dinner just happened in the parking lot. It was so good that my wife went back in and ordered another teriyaki chicken plate and garlic lime chicken plate to go. They even gave us a complimentary order of egg rolls right out of the fryer that were awesome, too. If teriyaki is your thing, run, don't walk to The Tray. Soft opening discount ends today, I believe, but I'd be more than happy to pay full price for any of the items we ordered. Will definitely be back!

Saw this place was soft opening their new location when I was getting a haircut and thought I'd try it out. The service was nice and the diced steak I got was a very good price for the amount of food. Whoever made my food made it with real love because the flavors were so good. It didn't feel too fatty and the sauce was delicious. I'll definitely stop by again when I'm nearby.

This place is Amazing! Had the pleasure of trying their delicious bbq chicken the quality was superb, the chicken was so juicy. Can't wait to come back and try some of the other menu items. Thanks for the hospitality:)

Moved to La La Kitchen 1.5miles away, the menu is exactly the same and talked to the staff and they said they moved about a month ago. Seems like they merged with that business and the name Tray Fusion Grill isn't seen on the menu but Lala Kitchen is. Exact same menu though and pictures. It's actually quite large, larger than your face even if you're a big back lol, and the amount of meet you get is more than you'd get for the same $ spent elsewhere even though it does look very simple. You're here for actually good teriyaki/chargrilled meats which it delivers on. Pictured is garlic lime chicken, and angus beef, beef is better, both of us agreed upon that, would want to try another chicken flavor since it's charbroiled grilled - the garlic lime is a little more lime than garlic and it doesn't quite fit with how chargrilled it is fwiw. INTERESTING NOTE is the sauces, we actually swapped them since the beef was sweet, the spicy sauce that supposedly went with the garlic lime was good to contrast. And VICE VERSA, the sweet bbq sauce was good on the garlic lime for contrast as well. Was 2 meals worth unless you just did some deadlifts at the gym then maybe I could eat the whole thing if my body was primed. WAIT: did take a solid 10-15 minutes to order so be prepared to wait but it seems like they make it to order fresh then! Maybe this will get refined later as they settle down in the new kitchen - not sure but seems like the businesses merged / are sharing space under one name. Very interesting.

Even though this place opened recently I've been back so many times. My favorite items are the spicy lemongrass and garlic lime chicken trays that come with rice and steamed veggies. Super flavorful, moist, big portion for the price, and perfect high protein meal.

    Eggroll stuffing and supplies

I'm not gonna lie, the food was good. Had I rated just on food, out of 10 stars, probably would be an 8 stars. Not the best, but very good! BUT, the most disgusting thing, was a lady walked by this tray on the way to the restroom and walked up to me to let me know. It was a tray of meat and veggies to stuff eggrolls. We were both there right after 5pm and didn't leave til 545pm. (My photos are timed stamped) This tray of food sat here untouched, there was one eggroll sitting on the table and a huge pan full prepped meat ready to be made. This is how customers get food poisoning! I had to leave in a hurry because the estimated wait was 15-20, ended up being over 40 min. (and there was only one customer in front of me?) Their excuse was they are training a new chef....40 min. for "express dining", is way too long to make a customer wait. They have been open over 3 weeks now and this is not their first location. They need to do better. Not a fan.

    Chicken curry with rice.

This place is so good! It's VERY clean and well maintained. The service was extremely friendly and fast.... And the food... wow! The curry was so flavorful and the rice was cooked perfectly. The portion was so big I had to take half of it home. Definitely adding this place to my rotation!

Very fresh delicious food. Friendly staff. Great beef jerky for sale. Its a take out spot, no dining. Still worth it.

If you are looking for flavor, you have found it! So many different options for every one! I highly recommend the spicy garlic lime chicken. It's definitely got a kick to it but it's so good! They also have sparking drinks with boba! The strawberry one was so good!

    Mango Habanero Chicken Salad
    Jeremy P.

This is seriously delicious, guys. I don't know how you do it. I haven't been here for awhile since they were closed which made me very disappointed but I just happened to be driving by and noticed the sign. I love the mango Habanero and reordered it. Still tastes amazing. There are some really talented cooks back there. The chicken is juicy and tender. The mango Habanero sauce is the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. The only downside is that it's far from me. You guys really need to open a Fountain Valley location.

Ask the Community - The Tray Fusion Grill

Are you guys officially reopen as The Tray? The last time I went, the place was under Good Times management and had no chicken plates or bowls. I was so sad... Good Times food wasn't as tasty as The Tray.

Hi Allie, thank you for your inquiry. We are now back with The Tray chicken bowls and plates. It's the same premium BBQ as before and the same ownership. You're welcome to stop by anytime. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

    Will you ever reopen?

Hi! We are open now! (4/25/2024)

    When do you reopen?

Hi Inland, We will be open next week with some new items for you. Thank you for waiting.

What is going on, is this place ever going to reopen? Every week it gets pushed back when they are opening

Thank you for your inquiry. We will be back on Tuesday 1/25/2022. We apologize for the inconvenience. This was a direct result from the ongoing labor shortages and supply chain issues.

Is this place closed? I've visited twice and they aren't open during their business hours.

    They are re-opening 11/21!

I was lucky to receive my dish pretty quickly, but some of the other people in my party had to wait quite a bit. But I think the staff were working as fast as they could so ultimately, i think service was fine. I tried the lomo saltado with beef, fries and garlic noodles. Overall tasted great. The fries still managed to have a crispy texture and had a sweet and savory sauce flavor to them. The beef cubes were tender and cooked just right. The noodles were fine as well. I liked that the noodles werent too heavy. The portion size is very large though, i was very full by the end of it. The green milk tea was good too. The milk, sugar, and tea ratios were all balanced and the flavor was subtle. It had an interesting flavor that reminded me of grass jelly and milk, but in a good way.

And I am SO glad we did because everything about our experience was seriously a 10/10! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was amazing. The gentleman at the front greeted us and escorted us to our table, and right away we felt welcomed and comfortable. Our server, Quang, was absolutely the sweetest! He was so friendly, outgoing, attentive, and helpful, especially when it came to giving us recommendations since it was our first time there. He had such a positive energy and really made our experience even better. And the FOOD!!! If I could give it 1,000/10, I seriously would. We tried the Ube Cloud, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Garlic Parmesan Fries, Spicy Shrimp Wontons, Corn Ribs, Garlic Butter Prawns, and Filet Garlic Noodles, and honestly, there wasn't ONE thing we didn't enjoy. Everything was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. But what really stood out to us was that it wasn't just the food -- it was the entire experience. The staff, the atmosphere, the music, and just the overall vibe made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. The music they were playing was amazing too! My friend and I were enjoying ourselves, eating good food, listening to good music, and just having such a great time. The whole place honestly had such a warm, homey feeling to it. When we were leaving, the gentleman who had greeted and seated us earlier ended up having a whole conversation with my friend and me. He was so sweet and personable! He mentioned that they may be opening a location in Culver City, and I told him I really hope they do because that would be much closer to home for me. I was even joking with him that if they open one, they need to bring the whole staff from this location over there too because everyone here was THAT amazing. At the same time, even if there ends up being a location closer to me, I would honestly still make the drive back to this one. When you visit somewhere for the first time and have such a great experience, that location becomes special. You can visit the same restaurant somewhere else, but the people, atmosphere, and experience aren't necessarily going to feel the same. This location definitely left that kind of impression on us. I really hope this review reaches management because the staff here deserves the recognition. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful, and Quang especially took such great care of us. This was our first time at VOX Kitchen, but it DEFINITELY won't be our last. Unlike your typical rotisserie or fried chicken, this place roasts their chicken in a large clay pot and the marinade is definitely not something that you can find easily. The smell of the chicken is so inviting on its own but you won't be able to smell it outside of the restaurant - gather some confidence and open that door! We got 1 whole chicken, bot chien, crispy rice, and a side of dry noodles. All of the sides are great - I've tried at least 1 option every time I come back here but my favorite is the dry noodles and crispy rice. Their chicken pairs TOOO WELL with the pickled veggies and their special soy sauce. I like mixing a little salt, pepper and lime in mine to make it extra sour but honestly, the chicken is great even without the sauce. It's a small restaurant and flagging down servers is not difficult but I love that they will come to check in on you pretty often without you putting out any effort. They set the bowls down and everything looked fantastic and smelled even better! A generous bowl of egg noodles, chicken and a side of broth in case you want to dip or just throw it in the bowl. We got to grubbin and it was instant love at first bite! The chicken was so tender and flavorful. We noticed these little cubes of tasty bits, we didn't know what they were because we didn't see it on the description, she already had a piece, we thought it was some sort of crispy bread crumb bits LOL. We asked the service and come to find out, it was crispy pork called Top Mo. We told them she can't have pork, they took the plate back. After a few minutes they came back. She asked is it a new dish or did you just pick them out. They picked them out. This is where the language barrier came into play. They didn't understand for a bit. I said she can't have pork because of her religion. That's when it clicked! Thank the Lord! Out came a fresh porkless new bowl and she could enjoy with me. They should've given me her previous bowl to go LOL I'm the pork Queen LOL. Overall a fantastic meal and I've been thinking about this meal for awhile. I need a reunion stat!!! Just so many good Vietnamese dishes in the area, it's hard to choose! I will be back!!!

Our food also came out very quickly and was super hot when it arrived. Ambiance The restaurant was nice, clean, and very aesthetically pleasing. It wasn't too loud or too quiet, so it had a really comfortable atmosphere for enjoying a meal. Food We ordered the Lomo Salvador and substituted the rice for noodles. My boyfriend got the brisket pho and a Coke. The pho was good, and my boyfriend rated it a 7/10. He really enjoyed the flavor of the soup. The Lomo Salvador was amazing!** The fries had so much flavor, and the filet mignon was not dry at all. They also gave us a generous amount of meat, and a lot of the pieces had little to no fat, which I personally prefer. The noodles were super garlicky and tender. Overall, this was one of the best lomos I've tried compared to a few other spots! Price Price: Good price for the big portions you get.

There were enough parking spots for the plaza. We really appreciate how the staff were so friendly, welcoming, and super attentive. Ordered the following: - Garlic Chicken - Popcorn Chicken - Lomo Saltado Shaken Fries + Filet Mignon + Garlic Noodle - Signature Vietnamese Pho (special combination) - New drinks: Banana Matcha Milktea & Banana Coffee Everything that we ordered was absolutely delicious! The one I liked the most was the Lomo Saltado Shaken Fries with filet mignon (which had a combination of tender steak, savory fries, and garlic noodles). The garlic chicken was savory and flavorful while the popcorn chicken was crispy and nice bite sized with a great balance of seasoning. Definitely would love to come back and try their other items!

The cashier was super friendly and even recommended a few other items to try. I was only there for the pad Thai this time, but I'll definitely keep those recommendations in mind for next time. And the Thai tea? Amazing. It was a little on the sweeter side, but still really good. I usually get Thai tea with boba, but even without it, this one definitely hit the spot. Great food, friendly service, and I'll definitely be back!

We ordered the Papaya Salad, Garlic Chicken Rolls and their Beef Jerky Special. We had a lovely conversation with the owner and she gave us special instructions on how to eat everything, such as eating the jerky with a small ball of sticky rice and sauce, followed by a mouthful of papaya salad as a palate cleanser--We followed those instructions to a T and it was truly enjoyable! For impressions of each Entree: The Papaya Salad is incredible, we ordered it with a mild spice level sauce. It's light, flavorful and refreshing and serves as a perfect palate cleanser if you order it with another item, but having it on its own is perfectly fine as well. The Garlic Chicken Roll was fantastic, crispy roll and tender chicken on the inside. It came with a sweet dipping sauce that had a flavor we weren't expecting but a nice surprise. The Beef Jerky Special: I absolutely love the idea of the beef jerky with a crispy-charred outer shell. My critique would be to dial back the charred-ness a little bit so that it doesn't dominate the center flavor. It goes perfectly well with the sticky rice and the sauce it comes with is really nice. Really great establishment with great customer service, I look forward to visiting again!

Our waitress was always there when we needed her and would check up on us consistently! The place is very spacious, music was lively, and overall great atmosphere. Bathrooms were clean and it had a mouth wash dispenser including the cup As for food and drinks, everything was so delicious! Yuzu Lemonade was very refreshing and was a nice mix of the flavors. The yuzu and lemonade didn't overpower each other, and a nice touch of the mint leaf! Kei Coconut Ube had a nice taste to it. The sweetness was nice, super purple in color, and worth trying at least once. Drink definitely does not look or taste like a beer so think of it as a sparkling Ube drink when you try it. Beef Tongue appetizer was very tasty and the appearance was pretty. The sauce was very delicious with a hint of citrus. Beef Bowl Udon was delicious as well. The udon noodles are in the middle of the thickness level. Broth was nice and refreshing, and the beef belly was super soft and tasted amazing. Seafood Tom Kha Ramen was really good. Seafood in it were shrimps, scallops, and squid/calamari. Not too spicy, but had a nice kick to it. Veggies were nice and mixed well with the seafood ramen! Unfortunately, the eggs do not come with the udon or ramen, but they do have free unlimited ramen noodles!!! They let you get it for the udon broths as well! Would definitely come back to this place when I'm back in this part of town!
