I wouldn't recommend Dr. Chow. I had a botched double asian eyelid surgery about 10 years ago. My fold broke, so I had to go back into a 2nd surgery some weeks later. And then during a post-opt appointment at an off-site facility, I mentioned the end corner of my right lid seemed to be bulging, he operated on me a 3rd time, but this time without proper equipment/preparations. We were just at some random exam room at that time. This surgery has been one of my greatest regrets in life, because in the past 10 years, I've lived with uneven lids, and dry eyes, because I can't close my lids. Traumatized and unwilling to take another chance, I decided to just live with it. The hardship of sleeping is unreal! But I am coming back to write this review because this nightmare came back to haunt me. The suture from my right lid (the one that he operated on ill-equipped) is resurfacing. I will be forced to find another surgeon to correct this botched surgery and will be hoping for a miracle that I'll somehow be able to properly close my eyes again. read more

I will be calling Dr. Chow out both professionally (both my original procedure, asian upper blepharoplasty aka. "double eyelid surgery" and the "revision" were botched), and who he is as a person. I have decided to live botched instead of taking a lot of money to "shut me up" , in order to inform you all on what he is like, and to help you all make informed decisions. He told me he'd sue me simply for sharing my experiences, had I signed a contract to keep me quiet- and of course I did not (see my photo if you're curious about the form). Every time I asked him about mistakes on my procedures, he'd always try to dodge me: I had to interrogate him with multiple questions to get him to be honest. Or, he'd try to deny what happened, or not admit to mistakes even when I literally pointed them out on my face, or dodge answering my questions, etc. Luckily, I'm not too dumb and can see through when he is trying to cover himself; I can see how others could get fooled. Hurts emotionally to have your doctor choose business interests over those of the patient, and there's nothing you can do. He does not care about you and tosses you aside. When asking about hair replacement, he didn't even know the most common name for the procedure I needed (I researched it beforehand and knew more than him). What a red flag: he was willing to perform said procedure on me, even when he clearly doesn't do often or know enough about. In our capitalistic society, your money speaks: Please support someone who actually deserves your hard-earned money - not this guy, and do heavy research into your procedure and who you support to protect yourself - the consumer is very vulnerable when it comes to surgery, there are many doctors who do anything just for money, and the law is against you. It will take me 3 procedures to fix what I can of my face (eyes & hairline), so if you'd like to help me, even if it's small, please message me on Yelp. I am one person living alone/not well-off, with no family or network to support me, so I can't afford anything right now. I want to preface this review with some background information. I've been Dr Chows nurse on surgery days for over five years. Dr Chow is not the only plastic surgeon I've worked with over the last several years. When I decided it was time to address a few plastic surgery issues I had no reservations choosing Dr Chow. October 2021 Surgery I had 26 year old saline breast implants that needed to be replaced. One side had slipped to the side and he was able to correct the pocket going through the original armpit incision. I was thrilled he didn't need to make a new incision under my breast. The next thing he tackled was my jawline and chin. In my 20's I had surgery for TMJ. As I was aging I was having bone loss issues along my jawline where they had moved my jaw and chin. My chin was off center too. Dr Chow used a material to fill in the bone loss area, moved my chin forward and centered it. Once again I was thrilled with the results. That same day he did a facelift, neck lift and brow lift. It was my 60th birthday present to myself. My hairdresser who sees plenty of facelifts says mine is the best she's seen. She now passes out Dr Chows cards. May 2023 Surgery I finally decided to get a tummy tuck and once again Dr Chow was my choice without hesitation. He did an amazing job and I couldn't be happier. He did liposuction to my waist and flanks and I now have a waist that I haven't seen since before having three kids. Dr Chow is very artistic and sees things in 3 D. I had to undergo two rhinoplasty's by Dr. Chow and the second one resulted in a collapsed septum due to unsecured stitches inside the nose. This left me with an extreme deviated septum for three years that greatly obstructed my breathing. I ended up having to undergo a third surgery by another surgeon just to breath again. This last surgery resulted in a hole appearing inside my sinus wall from the amount of trauma my nose has undergone. Just for clarification, I underwent a second surgery by Dr. Chow just because the first surgery left me with scar tissue on the tip of my nose. I am a young person under the age of 25 with a healthy immune system. If I could go back in time, I would never have undergone a rhino/septoplasty with Dr. Chow. read more

Please read this entire review before consulting with Dr. Chow. I will try to be fair. I want to start by saying Dr. Chow has an outstanding bedside manner. He seems compassionate and is very knowledgeable. His staff is wonderful. To schedule appointments, I communicated with Jennifer, Dr. Chow's receptionist. She was always professional, polite, accommodating and prompt to reply when corresponding. His assistant, Patsy, is warm, cheery and supportive. She always made me feel very comfortable and cared for. His surgical nurse has a keen awareness of her patients, which proved life saving in my first surgery, and the anesthesiologist he uses is highly skilled, the most personable I've ever met. Everyone made me feel like they genuinely cared about my concerns and had my best interests, health and only the most positive outcome in mind. I'm going to start with the second surgery which was September 2020. My main concern was my lower face/neck area and I asked him if a lower face/neck lift would address my issues. Dr. Chow felt I would be disappointed with the resulting scars. He felt I would be a good candidate for an endoscopic face/brow lift - that it would help with the lower face and neck area as well. I used a mirror to show him the results I was hoping for. I carefully asked the right questions, and his answers made me feel like he listened and understood my expectations and concerns. Based on his answers, I believed I would get the results I wanted, and I made a decision to go ahead with the surgery. I mentioned I did not want to end up needing a revision. I wanted it done right the first time. I had also seen a woman with scars and bald spots from a face lift. I said I did not want that. I said I didn't think I could handle it psychologically if that were to happen. I regret having the surgery. Although listened to, I do not feel that I was heard. I feel mislead. I don't feel the surgery was done with the patient's (my) best interests in mind. I see a slight change in my lower face. I see no improvement in my neck area. I was told the incisions would be very small, yet they were much longer than described. I was told recovery would be less intense than traditional lower face/neck lift, I'd see less bruising and heal faster. I feel I experienced the opposite. The surgery left me with significant bald areas on both sides of my head; approximately 2.5"W x 3"H on right side and 1.5"W x 3"H on left - see attached photos. I experienced some regrowth, but my dermatologist, two cosmetic surgeons and two hair transplant specialists said the remaining baldness and thinning in my temples wouldn't improve. I had to get hair transplants. So, more surgery, more downtime from work and activities, more stress and waiting for improvement. I have experienced some regrowth, but the density is not optimal. It will never be what it was. This has been an absolute nightmare, physically and psychologically. Hats became my best friends, as the wind revealed the bald spots. I'm also very active in water sports, which I will never be able to enjoy without a cap to hide the very thin areas. My lifestyle was, and remains, significantly altered. I am devastated with the results. When I first came to Dr Chow it was to remove my breast implants. When I woke up from surgery, my left lung was partially collapsed as a result of the surgical procedure. His nurse saw that I was in distress and alerted Dr. Chow. The entire team quickly transferred me to the hospital across the street. I was released after 3 days. This is a risk of the surgery and I was thankful to be alive. I have spoken to another doctor about this and he said it is a risk of having the surgery and otherwise doctor Chow did a good job. So that was my experience. This is not about money, and I don't want to ruin Dr. Chow's business. My intention is to save others from going through this nightmare. My suggestion is to go see a specialist when it comes to any surgery. Especially your face. Most importantly, make certain you are not only listened to, but also heard, and that your surgeon is truthful and has only YOUR best interests in mind. read more

I visited Dr. Chow for mucocele removal surgery. Unfortunately, my mucocele grew back not once nor twice, but three times. Hence, we had to have multiple surgeries to treat my then ongoing battle with the mucocele. Dr. Chow is one that takes pride in his work and goes above and beyond for his patients. Specifically, Dr. Chow went into the operation room on a national holiday when I informed him that my mucocele grew back for the 3rd time. He operated on me with an one-hour short notice without any help from nurses since it was a holiday. Dr. Chow is both a plastic surgeon and ear, nose & throat doctor; as such, he has extensive knowledge and insight on the best course of action and medical treatments that other doctors might not have. I've spent many years pondering plastic surgery and interviewing for the best surgeon (I had looked into probably about 15-20 surgeons across the country), and I have to say Dr. Chow has far exceeded expectations in all fronts: his superb credentials (UC Berkeley, UCSF), level of experience (don't let his youthful appearance fool you as it did for me initially), talent as a doctor and surgeon, the painstaking detail and artistry he puts into his work, congenial bedside manner, and rarely might you hear this in combination with those listed above... reasonable price point. I was surprised to see relatively fewer Yelp reviews for him, given what an amazing plastic surgeon he is. When I asked him about it, he said he usually takes those things with a grain of salt. I believe he focuses all his energy on ensuring the highest quality of medical care to each of his patients rather than allocating any of his time to self-promotion and advertising to simply pump up patient volume (which can be timely and expensive for doctors who choose to pursue that route, often translating to lower quality, more expensive care for the consumer). He's also extremely modest - if I hadn't looked more closely into his credentials, which he didn't mention during our consultation - I would have totally overlooked him. While many practice's websites I looked at touted in capital letters at the top BOARD-CERTIFIED, or even DOUBLE board certified, Dr. Chow is TRIPLE board certified (by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery, and Board of Head and Neck as well as a member with the American Society of Plastic Surgery), which he mentions quite inconspicuously at the bottom of his website. Now, I've looked at a lot of doctors, and very rarely have I seen all four of these credentials. You have to be a very talented doctor to be able to achieve all that. To further demonstrate his focus on quality rather than quantity, I remember I spoke with another doctor and I asked him how long a rhinoplasty would take, and he said with his years of experience, he could bang it out in about an hour. Forgive me, but this is my face we're talking about... I don't care if you're world-renowned and have performed thousands of rhinoplasties, I want my surgeon to take all the time necessary to ensure that my expectations are met. And that is what Dr. Chow did. We've spent many consultations discussing rhinoplasty so he knew how particular I was about it - in surgery, he spent FIVE hours to painstaking detail on my nose alone and I am thrilled with the results. He didn't even charge me for the overtime in the operating room! Also about Dr. Chow: he can do CLOSED rhinoplasties. This is very difficult and requires a high degree of skill and dexterity of surgical hands. Very few plastic surgeons are capable of doing this well - they usually only can do open rhinoplasties, which as you can imagine, causes more bruising, scarring, and requires longer recovery time. With a closed rhinoplasty, there is absolutely no external scarring. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that Dr. Chow charged less for his closed rhinoplasties than most doctors who can only do open rhinos. The other great thing about Dr. Chow is that he doesn't charge consultation fees like many other doctors. I met with him three or four times over the length of about 8-10 months before finally deciding to have the surgery, all without being charged a penny. He will meet with you as many times as you need to get comfortable. And I never felt pressured to commit to surgery with him - he even encouraged me to take a couple more months to think about exactly what I wanted. I'm a very particular customer, so every time I went in, I usually had a list of about 10-20 questions, which he always answered patiently, never making me feel rushed or like I was wasting his time. With our healthcare system in desperate need of a makeover, it's such a rare pleasure to find a doctor with the priorities of Dr. Chow. It was apparent to me through our interactions over time that he is genuinely passionate about medicine and helping his patients feel better about their appearance, and that monetary reward is tertiary. This office is the worst. I didn't hear from them for twenty days after my appointment with Dr. Chow! I called repeatedly to try to contact them and always got answering machines saying they would get back to me, but they didn't. They were also listed on my insurance as a provider, but because they decide to use an in house operating room to make more money, their anesthesia and operating room costs are not covered by insurance, and "are out of Network!" Which is information i had to wait over three weeks for, when they finally emailed me the bill estimate..... DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! I read many reviews and performed extensive research prior to making the decision to go to Dr. Chow for a consultation. It went well! He put together pictures of my face from different angles and showed me my before and potential after. He answered all my questions and was very honest, attentive, and straight-forward. His kind demeanor yet extremely professional presence made me feel assured. His confidence comes from his wide array of experience and extreme capability of surgery. It was obvious that he runs his practice with care and genuine sincerity. One of the surgeries Dr. Chow performed on me was a septoplasty/rhinoplasty. I had a hard time breathing out of one nostril for all of my adult life. Therefore, I was expecting a pretty difficult procedure with a prolonged recovery time. Despite this being a procedure known for heavy post-operative bleeding and pain, I was impressed at how minimal the bleeding was! My nose healed so quickly, and I was back up and about in a couple of days. I am SO happy with the results only after a week. There's still a bit of swelling but I have no bruising and tapered off the pain meds as soon as 4 days after the surgery.
