The meal was extremely disappointing! We had made a reservation and were kept waiting for 20 minutes. Four of the five of us ordered Salads. It was if they plopped down some greens, a couple cherry tomatoes, a little cheese and some frozen chicken onto our plates. There was no seasoning at all. The restaurant didn't close for 30 minutes and the young lady came to the table and turned around the sleeve of our bill as if to say let's go. Next she gave us someone else's bill. My family and I love dining here, including on March 10, 2018 to celebrate my parents' 45th wedding anniversary. Excellent authentic Italian food with very fresh ingredients. Since I work across the street I had anxiously awaited the opening of this new eatery located next to Starbuck's. I have eaten there twice since their opening. Once I ordered a chicken salad, which was good but nothing to write home about. The second time I tried the prosciutto sandwich and comes with a small side salad of mixed greens. It was a bit salty and lacked flavor, probably because of the saltiness. The prices are on the high side for salads and sandwiches. I would probably only eat here out of convenience, as I can walk there. read more

Ok so this is my first review on Yelp so here goes... We went to Aldo's today for lunch and I have to say I was disappointed. The food was OK, but I expected GREAT or at least GOOD. As one of the Yelpers mentioned previously I wish the lunchmeat was not the processed kind. We got roast beef and it would have been delicious if it was not beef luncheon meat. Although one of the waitresses (not ours) was really nice, the service could have used some improvement as well. I would go back to give it another try, but I will def try some other restaurants in the area first. read more

My wife and I ate dinner at this restaurant a couple of weeks ago an it was probably the worst food and service we have experienced in many years. The service was slow to none. I had the Risotto and it was horrible, more like mush and tasteless. I have a fondness for this dish and this was the worst I have ever eaten. My wife's meal was just a bad. One of my family's favorite restaurants!!! Whenever we come here, we ask for Giuseppe, he's the best waiter. He really pays attention to every detail and needs of his customers- GREAT customer service. When I go here I order gnocchi with Alfredo sauce- that's not on the menu, but they will make it for you and it's soooooooo good, the Alfredo sauce is exactly how it should be. Took my wife here for dinner. The place is nice inside with lots of parking outside. It took a very long time to be served. The food was OK, not that great but not to awful. Maybe we came on bad waitstaff night, but she was terrible. I had to ask someone to find her so I could get my check. I guess we are the odd couple of the bunch. Fiancé and I came here tonight and were very displeased with our waitress. She was condescending and inattentive during our entire meal, but quite speedy when it came to getting the check. The food was mediocre at best. Bruschetta was bland and the lasagna way too greasy. It looks casual from the outside but only good stuff coming out of this restaurant! Everything was beyond amazing!! We had a party of 6 and tons of food. All of the dishes were very good. Among all of us we got: bruschetta, chicken Cesar salad, capese salad, pasta with chicken and truffle oil, pasta with sausage in pesto cream sauce, and tiramisu. Great food yet I will probably never go back because of the staff. We made a togo order, everything was wrong when we got home. We only ordered one pasta and one salad so we didn't think to check our order before we left. Great caprese. Lentil soup was so bland, but it was very lean and not super loaded in salt - which I appreciated. But didn't really have any other flavor. I also saw a delicious looking spinach salad with chicken on it that looked so good. Will have to try that next time. I sat at that little bar. 1pm on a weekday. Busy but not insane. Had an order to go... Server very nice.... ordered 5 items. 4 items really good, the 5th an undercooked Pizza, you know whaddia do? Call & yell? Race back 8 miles & burn time ruin my day... ... or give my lunch to the one that ordered the Pizza... OK now I am out lunch. Moral of the story, I guess you have to check the Pizza (maybe the whole order?) before it leaves... what a bummer I paid $77.00 to have lunch go wrong... just does not seem fair. I love Aldo's cafe! Whenever my wife asks what I want for dinner, Aldo's cafe is almost always my response. I think they have the best lasagna I've ever had (even better than my own). It's a very generous serving (I always eat the left overs the next day for a full lunch). I think each lasagna order is fresh made and hand assembled. My wife loves the penne arrabiata. They make great individual sized pizzas (I think they are wood fired) and great fresh salads. The staff is very warm and friendly and get to know you. Eat in, take out...it is always great food and service. I love the chicken piccata and the caprese salad. Always great tomatoes no matter the season. The lasagna is great and large. Usually eat half and take the rest home for lunch or dinner next day. BUT the best feature of the Cafe are the staff people. Big smiles and attentiveness. If you want to hurry, they hurry. If you want to relax, they take it slow. I find the "big" Aldo's on Winchester too noisy, especially the bar area. read more

After reading several reviews on this site, I decided to give it a try. Waited several minutes to be seated although the restaurant had only about 20-25 customers, all well into their meals. Took several more minutes for someone to approach me about my order though I never even picked up the menu because I knew what I wanted when I walked in the door. Ordered the much-hailed bruschetta and it was very tasty. However, at over a $1 per piece, not sure it was worth the price. It was very flavorful though and I would recommend it based on flavor if not price. Also had the meat lasagna. I make a MUCH better lasagna! The meat sauce had no seasoning and was covered in sliced cheese!! It wasn't horrible but did nothing for my taste buds. At 18.50, definitely not nearly as good as what I could get a Olive Garden for less--with a salad! No issues with tea, it was fine. The bread before the meal was not warm. It tasted very much like what my local grocery store makes back home. In fact, the grocery store makes it a little bit lighter! Everything about the service was slow. Staff was polite and helpful when they came to the table but in the more than 45 minutes I was in the place, I saw the waiter 4 times. Very nice atmosphere, though. Overall, the food was fair but nothing to write home about and the service was lacking. I'm in town all week for business and I don't anticipate going back. I finally made it to Aldo's new deli today. Located at 440 N. Santa Cruz in the shopping center next to Safeway (near HWY 9) and right next to Starbucks. I LOVED IT! My Monte Cristo sandwich was fabulous and HUGE. I could only eat 3/4th of it and it came with a side of green salad with a balsamic vinegar dressing. My lunch companion had the spinach salad with caramelized onions, walnuts and ricotta. Also GREAT and again big portions. We tried both of the soups - Lentil and Minestrone - and agreed they were also very yummy. I think the original Minestrone at Aldo's restaurant is better, but then they put cheese on it there and I didn't want to ask for it at the deli since it was lunchtime and they were busy. My only gripe is that they don't have fresh brewed Iced Tea (just the bottled stuff) but it's a deli so what did I expect. I can't wait to go back and try the pastas and the pizza. This is a VERY welcome addition to the south bay!!! BTW, Panini is the plural for panino which refers to meat on bread and isn't necessarily toasted. Came here for a quick bite on a Friday evening. The servers were so friendly and attentive! They give you fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar- which is always a great start to an italian meal. My boyfriend got the fettuccine Alfredo. He devoured it in ten minutes. It was really creamy and didn't have that raw flour taste. I had the bruschetta appetizer and I loved it. It was super fresh and the bread was nicely crisped. The salad it came with was a nice addition making this appetizer sufficient for a light meal. read more

I've gone here for lunch and dinner and the 2 differ in service styles. For lunch you order at the register and other than bringing out your food, there is no waiter action. At lunch you also buy a bottled soft drink rather than one they'll refill for you (since there's no wait staff). At dinner you're seated by a waiter and asked for your order just like a traditional sit down restaurant. The sodas are not bottled and have free refills. The hours for dinner also recently changed so that they're now closed between 2:30 and 5 and stay open until 9pm. Even though I eat as late as 2:30/3 once in awhile, I really prefer this so I have a better chance of making it for dinner (they used to close at 7). For dinner tonight I shared bruschetta with friends, which for $5, was the greatest deal and it also tasted amazing, much better than fancier places I've been to. For my main dish I got the penne aribiatta and that too was awesome. It was served hot off the press and had a great kick to it like aribiatta should. The portion was also generous- not gargantuan, but definitely larger. For a soda, splitting the appetizer bruschetta, and the penne, along with tip and tax, the price came to $20. read more

A friend and I had lunch here today. It was HORRIBLE!!! I ordered a roasted vegetable panini and my friend ordered eggplant Parmesan. Prices $12.50 and $15.00! The bread,which was not panini, was burnt and dry, and the sandwich had a very small amount of vegetables(?) in it with a few little salad greens on the plate. My friend's eggplant Parmesan was a "sandwich" also, and it was just awful. These "sandwiches" would have been awful at half the price, but at this price were more than horrible. Good food overall but some dishes better than others. Salads are great, sandwiches are good, soups are very very tasty - I love their tortilla soup (no, not an Italian dish!). I had chicken parmigiana and the portion was crazy big (almost gross) but the taste was only fair so I wouldn't have that again but I would definitely return to Aldo's. Lunch now includes table service from a waiter rather than ordering at the register - much nicer! Oh, and if you speak Italian, you'll be happy to know you can usually do some chatting in that beautiful language with one of the waiters - a very nice bonus which underlies that this is truly an Italian place.
