Went in for lunch yesterday and sat down at the bar. We were the first two customers in after they had opened at 11am. We sat and watched as several servers made eye contact while they chatted. We sat for fifteen minutes without so much as a greeting. So at that point, we stood up and left. I've been coming here for years and there's been a noticeable decline in service each time. Poor management combined with employees that demonstrate a lazy and entitled attitude means I won't be back anytime soon. Too many other good options popping up around town. Ugh...I'm disappointed in the Ale House. Service was mediocre. Had to ask twice for drink refills. Also had to ask twice for ketchup, ending up getting it ten minutes after asking for it. No joke. We had chips and salsa for appetizers. The chips were good and salsa fair. Nothing outstanding. I also ordered the fish and chips, with a side Caesar salad. The salad was crisp and fresh. The fish and chips were a disappointment. The fries were over seasoned and some were soggy, after being underneath the fish. The fish was mostly batter, which was thick and salty. This is a fun place to go to sit outside in a nice courtyard to enjoy a relaxing dinner. The food was amazing. We ordered the artichoke dip for an appetizer and the Elk Burger and the Homemade Rueben for main course. Beer on tap was delicious and ice cold. Only reason for 4 stars was while it was relaxed, service was a bit slow and had to wait 5-10 minutes before water was even brought to the table and the server flat out said "sorry for the delay, didn't know you were here and didn't see you". Ordered a pepperoni, mushroom and onion New York pizza. Had the order repeated back to me. Paid over the phone and picked up my pizza. Had to ask for receipt and it only had the price on it. Get to my hotel to enjoy my pizza only to find its pineapple mushroom and onion. I'm allergic to pineapple. I just wasted $20. Lesson learned. Check your food before you leave. The Ale House is one of my favorite places to eat. I love the environment and the events that they hold there. I love that there is something for everyone on the menu. There is not one thing on the menu that I have not enjoyed. I especially enjoy Stephanie H. We have had her as a server many times, and she never disappoints. I've lived out here in Junction for 9 years and been to the Ale House about 7 times. The food is average at best, so go for the beer, and if you do, only sit at the bar. Other wise you'll die of thirst or hunger waiting on the staff to bring your order. I guess in this place 'wait staff' is short for wait on staff... I mean it, I've sat in the dining section 4-5 times and the fastest part of the experience is being seated followed by getting the bill once you flag someone down. I ordered the French dip, the bread was so hard in places I couldn't bite into it. The fries tasted like they were sitting there for quite some time. What a disappointment. The Ale House used to be one of my favorite stops every time I visit Grand Junction. Much to my surprise, the food last night was absolutely disgusting. My friend had the beef dip and the bread was almost like a crouton it was so hard. Thank goodness for the au jus but it can only do so much. I had the flat iron steak, all mashed potato, no vegetables. Now I am very aware Ale House is not a steak house but my steak was raw. Barely seared on each side and raw in the middle. I ordered it medium rare but I could barely cut it. It tasted like liver. They cooked it to a medium but by then I was too grossed out to eat it. A good spot. Been here a lot growing up, still come when I'm ack in town. It feels up quick. Anything on the menu is good. I would go for the stuff that seems unique. What I got last time was this Pork medallion in green chile sauce. I usually try stuff like this at ale house, but this time it disappointed. The sauce wasn't very good. Mostly a bar for college kids, but came here to watch the Thursday night football game. The big TV in front of the bar is in bad condition and is not bright enough. If you sit at the "head" of the bar and want to watch the TV, you will need to turn your head one way or the other. The food I ordered was pretty average too. None of the flavors or construction of the shrimp tacos worked well. It was overloaded with cabbage, a weird tartar sauce and a bunch of blackberry salsa that did not taste good. I thoroughly enjoyed myself at The Ale House. I'll definitely return. First off, they have like 34 frickin' beers on tap. Most of them are (admirably) Colorado beers. My Dark Winter Wheats from Palisade were incredible :-) . Their menu is diverse. Many choices in the spectrum from healthy to comfort food. There were so many enticing options, I had to ask the server to help me out. I went with healthy... the soup and salad were delicious. They stay open, and serve food late, which is important and refreshing considering most places close up shop around 9. They also had a duo playing a tasteful selection of rock/pop acoustic music if you dig that sort of thing. I recommend you try this place if you're a beer lover. Sorry, coming from NYC and Chicago eater, this was a great portion the hungry teenagers, who could carless for the flavor, textures, and what they put on. But, it was not as good as Hot Tomatoes. Disappointed. Liked the garlic olive, but the tomato was so-so and so is the bread. The mozzarella was not of great quality, because I can tell by after my first slice, it was all frozen. The waitress was very nice when she stalking to you, but when not there, she never asked us how our food was, then offered us second drinks when they delivered the food, but never got it, I had to go and asked her about it, after my second slice. Ahhh... By then I didn't really wanted. Can you say buzz killed! She did comp my bf's beer, but not mine, since the wine is $1 more. I ordered the Marsala and my coworker ordered the Jerk. The restaurant wasn't very busy, 20% full, and the food came out quick - w/in 20mins of ordering - and a salad before the main. I wasn't expecting the my chicken to be so heavily breaded and the marsala was just poured on top of a rather uninteresting breaded chicken breast. The marsala was weak with little to no real tang you'd expect from the wine in the sauce. The mushrooms were okay, the smashed potatoes were good, the green beans tasted like lighter fluid (??? don't know how you do that) and the meat itself was bland. My suggestion would be to brine the chicken, season the breading (salt is your friend!) and make a fresh marsala daily. The food was okay, but it took so long, I thought it would be better. Our drinks were always empty and we'd have to try really hard to find our server for more. I went there a few months later with a friend and sat at the bar. Service, again, was slow. It was not busy. A slow Sunday afternoon. The bartender was busy socializing and took a long time to get my order. He forgot to bring my beer, so I had to ask again. After going home, I realized on the receipt, he had charged me for two beers, when I only had one. Couldn't really do anything about it then. Do yourself a favor and go down the street to Kannah Kreek or downtown to Rockslide Brewery. You'll be treated better anywhere else. read more
