Let me start by saying I love the Ale House. I know with Covid places are struggling but you still need to have good customer service. The last 3 experiences I've had there have not been great. My family & I tried to go on 4th of July for lunch. We got there & they were not busy at all which shocked us. We went to go in & my husband realized he forgot his mask so he went back to car to get it. Wasn't in car. The male host/seater was very rude & told us we couldn't be in building without mask. We knew that & tried to explain, asked if they may have a mask since we forgot one & he said we don't have masks here for you. Was very short & rude with us. Was it our fault for forgetting a mask? Yes. But no need to be so aggressively rude. I had friends come from out of town in October. We were planning a girls night out/business dinner for 8 ladies. I was trying to think of a place with drinks & a wide selection that would appeal to many so we chose the Ale House. Our waitress was good- at first. After we got our first round of drinks & our food we never saw her again for refills on drinks, etc. We had 2 more ladies show up a bit later & wanted drinks & dinner but we couldn't find our waitress to get menus. Had to flag someone else down. Finally got menus but took 45 mins & 2 more flag downs to put in an order. We were promised refills many times but they never showed up. Waitress was no where to be found in restaurant. The few times she did come out was for new tables that were being sat & never came to check in us. Finally after about 2 1/2 hours of sitting there with no refills, the ladies placed to go orders with some other waitress that we flagged down. Our waitress brought the to go orders & apologized for "being slammed". In 2 1/2 hours she had 2 other table- a 4 top & an 8 top that she also never returned to after delivering food. Went again yesterday for lunch. Had to wait about 10 mins at the door for someone to even acknowledge us standing there. The bartender kept looking at us but kept wiping down the bar. Finally some dude came from back corner of restaurant & asked if we had been helped. It took until 3 groups of 2 standing at hostess counter for someone to come out. The service for lunch was pretty much the same. We ordered ice tea & asked for sugar 2 times. We sat for over an hour once we got our food & no one checked on us. Had to flag down to get our check. Finally got sugar for our tea with our bill. I've never had bad service until CoVid hit & they cut the number of tables available. Not sure if you don't have enough staff or if they just don't want to work. It hasn't been busy when we've been in so I don't think it's that they can't keep up. Not sure I'll be back until you are open at full capacity & staff. It's sad because we used to really enjoy coming in. read more

It's no secret that Grand Junction is a little hard pressed for great eateries and bars. My parents moved here about three and a half years ago, and when I come to visit, I am forever in search of the aforementioned. (I am spoiled, living in San Francisco, where you can't throw a rock without hitting a fabulous little place to dine and imbibe.) So the thing is, all things considered, I actually really like the Ale House. For starters, I disagree that the food is underwhelming. It's a decent menu--lots of good standard American and pub grub. I've been to the Ale House about three or four times, and I've never had anything bad. Last night I ordered garlic herb salmon, and it was really good. They also stock a full bar and are known for their beer menu. I am more of a cocktail girl, and there are plenty to be had--from margaritas to standard wells to fancy cocktails. There are big screens around the bar where you can watch the game, if that's your thing. There's also plenty of bar seating, and last winter, I happened in on some really great live music. This is one of the better spots I've found in town, and I like hanging out here. Check it out if you're in the market for some casual dining and/or drinks. read more

The Ale House was much better than anticipated. We got there just before happy hour ended, so we were able to get a couple Breckenridge beers for $3 (although not huge fans of Breckenridge) and a quesadilla on happy hour. This quesadilla was very, very good. It was deep fried and had a sriarcha dipping sauce. Definitely recommend getting this. I ordered the texmex salad with skirt steak for dinner. I swapped out the avocado for some extra sour cream (can't do the avocado!! Personal issue...) and got the southwest style ranch salad dressing on the side. It was a great salad! My boyfriend ordered the 50/50 burger which it half bacon half burger. He said it was delicious. We toyed around with the idea of getting dessert, but were both stuffed. We settled on a cider to finish off the night. Just wish it were a different brewery represented than Breckenridge. Nothing personal, just not a favorite! read more

The server was very friendly. Beer prices are good, wine not so much. The green chili soup was really good. The hummus was ok, could have used a bit more zip for being red pepper hummus. The portion sizes were decent on the chicken fried chicken & the fish -n- chips. The chicken fried chicken was good, but nothing compares to Bull & Bush. I always cringe when my girlfriend says she wants to eat here. The food is always cold and the selection seems to get worse and worse. The beer on the other hand is what keeps me coming back. Big mistake thinking I could get good food here. I had the fish & chips. The fish was literally dripping with oil & it made my fries soggy. The specially battered fish tasted terrible. After my long drive from California, I trusted a local to give me a tip about where I could find a good meal. It was football night & the locals were having a great time watching the Broncos game. Here's the deal... The food is wonderful, which is why it's hard to give them a two star, but after last night, I'm not sure we'll be returning for anything other than beers on the back patio, sans children. I'd suggest not going on a Thursday unless you're a collegiate in a short skirt, for my family and I, we were tucked in the back in a tiny booth and waited... and waited... and waited... finally, after about 20 minutes, we finally got waters. After another 20 minutes, we got our cocktails and seized the opportunity to order. After another 30 minutes of waiting, our waiter finally offered some chips and salsa since the kitchen was "backed up." We watched tables who came in nearly a half hour after us get served and at the HOUR mark of waiting for our food, I started to get up to cancel everything and our food arrived. Lucky break. By this point we were starving and my 10 year old was about ready to explode having waited forever, so we scarfed down our food without really getting to enjoy it. It took yet another 20 minutes to flag down our waiter and pay. After a long day of work, the last thing I wanted to do was spend 2 and a half hours in a loud a restaurant. Yay's: -$2.50 beer of the day that rotates around their taps. -Tasty spinach artichoke dip (I prefer w/o crab, it ain't real anyway) -ANY of their Ahi Tuna dishes (1. Seared Ahi Tuna Sandwich 2. Ahi Tuna Fingers) -Green Chili (Best that's not homemade) -Brewfest during the summer months. - BEST OUTSIDE GRASSY DINING in the GeeJ (that has a stage and outside bar too). - Happy Hour Pizza (half off) from 4-6 and 10-12. - They employ my favorite bartenders in town! They remember my drinks, my name, and are great to chat with. Nay's: -No AT&T cell service inside... I don't know what the heck it is about that joint, but you are fresh out of luck if you want to make a phone call or get a text inside. (Look for me waving my phone in the air) ((like I just don't care, heyy oh!)) -Sometimes their sweet potato chips aren't really cooked very well. They can be a big hit or miss. -That's really all I got... It's pretty great. Notes: -Free wifi, just ask your server to find someone who actually remembers the password, haha. -They have TV's all over the place inside and at the bar and they are even willing to change it to another game. Bison burger...ok, goat cheese too strong for me and huge. In general was ok, but the smoked extra spicy wings got me hooked. It's smoky but not over powering, spicy but don't taste chemical factors and a surprising sweetness from the meat itself.... A very popular local watering and grazing restaurant. Lots of beers to pick from, an outstanding menu with a huge variety. The Grande Nachos are an excellent way to start your feast. The outside patio and deck are the place to enjoy Colorado sunshine or moon lit evenings. If a band call "Terry Spark and Friends" is playing move inside. They are terrible and can ruin a fun night. On Wednesday night local troubadour Jeff Pine entertains...he's fantastic. My only complaint with the outside serving area of the Ale House is that smoking is permitted in some areas. No matter where you sit the pollutants drift to the non smoking area. They should ban all smoking and then get a five star rating. Inside there are lots of TVs, an outstanding bar with great ambiance. As a side light, if you get a server named Kristen (with an E), consider yourself extremely lucky. She is an excellent server, friendly, responsive, and customer oriented. She gets five stars. read more

Just ate there 20 min ago. Sat in the back booth window side with a brutal waitress. She never checked in. Took 10 min for a drink refill, had an attitude when my boyfriend and i asked for a refill. Once brought the refill she slammed it on the table then ignored me when i tried to tell her not to do that. I then got the chicken pot pie which was AWFUL! Not the chicken pot pie you would expect but it is DISGUSTING. I told the waitress "hey I'm so sorry i do not like this pot pie it is absolutely brutal" not a word said from her. She picked the plate up with an attitude. The chicken pot pie was still on our bill. Made no tiff of it being on our bill because we were so done with her. I usually love this place but that waitress needs to go or learn how to waitress and treat customers right. But always remember no matter how bad you're treated by a wait or or waitress still be kind. read more

Ups: Good food, good service, good beer. Down: Our booth seats had not been wiped down so there were still leftover crumbs from the previous customers; and as the designated driver for the evening, I was disappointed there weren't more non-alcoholic fun drinks offered (virgin dacquiri was as wild as it got). The 50/50 burger was hearty and juicy - definitely one of the better burgers out there with the fried egg. The onion jam was an innovative touch with a pleasant aftertaste. The generously-sized sherry spinach salad was simple, but all the ingredients complemented each other nicely and the vinaigrette pulled it together. Overall we thought the Ale House served pretty good food for a bar. The interior is pretty large, and they have a patio as well. The bar is in the very middle and wraps around. The layout made it seem like a good place for groups. Prices were as expected. Location is at the end of a strip mall with shared paved parking, and it's not in downtown. read more

I've only been out to eat to a few restaurants in Grand Junction. This town still has a lot of growing to do in it's dining selections. HOWEVER, I do have to say that my lunch at the Ale House was quite good. The house made sweet potato chips served with the sandwiches are quite good. And I was very happy with my pint of beer. They generally have many good, house brewed (tho not on the premises) draft beers. Service was good. Atmosphere is pleasant. There's plenty of elbow room. So, I had been telling my husband about the Ale House for years, since I was introduced to it a few years ago by my good friend, Jeff Pine, who sings there on Wednesday nights. We decided to use our 20th wedding anniversary to road-trip out to Grand Junction and spend the evening here with our old friend. It was every bit as good as I remembered, J. was loving the food and brews and we got to spend an evening listening to one of our favorite vocalists. It just doesn't get better than this. If you have a chance to go, definitely make it on a Wednesday night. Jeff is unbelieveably good and the food is outstanding brewery grub. The Ale House was a fairly underwhelming experience. The space was nice (looks like a pretty new building), and the beers were plentiful, but the food really lacked. I had the sweet potato chips (at the suggestion of other reviews) and found them to be like trying to eat small pieces of steel. I also had a pepper chicken sandwich with guac, which was VERY bland. They have a rotating beer on tap every day that's only $2.50 for a pint, so that was a pretty good deal. The nice bar area and the beer selection makes it a nice watering hole, but I would suggest getting food elsewhere. read more

Great experience once again at the Ale House. The nice gal at the bar did a great job, starting me off with a happy hour special of Full Sail Cascade Pilsner. Ordered the Ahi Tuna wrap which was prepared just perfectly. Great taste going with cucumber, ginger, wasabi-red pepper ranch sauce. Very light but just the perfect amount for a Dallas traveler. I love the Ale House. When I was going to college in another state and I would come home, the Ale House was the place I wanted to go to get all the home "feels." It is the place I take all my out of town friends to experience Grand Junction. They always have a great beer selection that is ice-cold, their pizza is super UNDER rated, and their burgers are delicious. Their chicken satays are excellent and their the only place in town that I know of that has smoked chicken wings. I wish their prices were a bit cheaper, but you can't win them all! We come here often. They have a new summer menu which is more limited but has some good choices. Lettuce Ahi wraps were superb. Highly recommended. Shaved steak dip was ok, meat nothing special as was the au jus - just average. Service on the patio can be spotty - they always seem under staffed outside. Below average in every way -- food, service, ambience, cleanliness. Big disappointment. Our server brought us our drink order and then promptly disappeared. After 15 minutes we flagged down another server to try and get our drinks refilled as well as place our food order. This was apparently a HUGE inconvenience. I realize this was not our assigned server and that she had other tables to attend to, however it was not our problem that no one was waiting on us. Our food order was put in and we waited and waited, nearly 25 minutes. Just unacceptable considering the dining area was barely half full. My guess is that this was not the fault of the kitchen but rather that our server had once again pulled a disappearing act. Our food was not what we expected. The environment/atmosphere was pretty fun. However, the food was very plain and bland. I ordered the smoked beef dip sandwich with fries. The meat seemed very plain with no smokey flavor. Even the au jus for dipping was plain. The fries had no flavor because there was no seasoning. My wife ordered a smothered burrito with pork. She said it was very plain as well, and it wasn't really "smothered" with sauce. Our server was fine and our drinks were pretty good. This is a decent place to grab a drink and catch a game, but I don't recommend the food. read more

We don't eat dinner here a lot, we enjoy sitting at the bar and having some beers. The bartenders are always attentive, knowledgeable and personable. Tonight we met some friends at ale house for dinner though. My wife and I had a hot steak and cheese sandwich. I'm pretty sure that if you set it next to an Arby's steak and cheese people would pick the Arby's. I've had pretty good food here before, but this sandwich was a joke. Especially for what you pay. Almost no horseradish sauce or any sauce for that matter. And the ausju wasn't even half full. The meat was fast food style. Basically cheap pressed meat. Hardly any cheese and it wasn't melted on the meat or peppers. Not good or what you'd expect from this place at their prices. They should be turning a pretty handsome profit with the crap they're serving at the prices they're charging! Well keep coming for the beers and the service we get at the bar but I think we'll pass on eating there again. read more

Their food and drink options are decent, but unfortunately the Ale House has gone a bit downhill over the last while. I've eaten there about 10+ times within the last six months and every time, EVERY TIME, their servers are hurrying customers. Or, the servers disappear and won't return for 20-30 minutes at a time. There hasn't been any in between so far. One time in particular, our server came up to us about every 2-3 minutes continuing to ask and interrupt us if we needed anything. It became laughable at one point because it was so frequent and obvious the server wanted us to hurry our experience along. My partner and I were still enjoying our food and drinks at 8:20ish and (our food had arrived five minutes prior) had only been there for 45 mins when the waiter came up and gave us our check. We told him we weren't finished and wanted another drink/desserts, and he rolled his eyes and didn't come back again. While I do enjoy coming to this establishment and I understand that this place can get pretty busy, the service has been extremely mediocre. read more

I have enjoyed the Ale House every time I visit Grand Junction. It's straight forward American pub grub, but done well. Service has always been friendly and attentive. The beer selection is above average and typically has a few great IPA's for me to choose from. I am heading back to GJ for a workshop at CMU and I am going to visit the place again. read more

Food tasted great! Enough food bang for your buck! Many great beer options, including a Hard Cider :) my favorite. I had the small portion of Ribs. Awesome tender flavor, and the garlic mashed potatoes were yummy too. I loved them so much, I practically ate the plate too. Good vibes, pool table, bar, etc. But def nice enough of a place to bring a date because it is an actual large restaurant. Very packed, but we were seated right away. It is mot a bad place the food is typically good but can also be really bad. Go easy on the bar the drink are not the best. Good for beer.
