I had a gas dryer that was not getting hot. Technician showed up and quickly diagnosed as a faulty thermostat and wanted $225 to repair. I thought that was a bit steep for what was probably 15 minutes of work. I suggested paying him by the hour and he rather rudely declined. I found a similar gas dryer on sale 15 minutes later online at Sears on big sale, and for an extra $125 got a whole new dryer installed the next day. The person who took our call seemed professional but the technician was the complete opposite. Extremely rude, arrogant and unprofessional. We instead got prompt, courteous and outstanding service from 858appliance who responded immediately. I also left a message with Alex to see if they were interested in remedying the bad behavior of their technician, but they clearly are too busy taking calls from new unsuspecting folks to care about maintaining their reputation. Alex is great. He came to fix my microwave, which he did quickly and efficiently. Whilst he was here i asked him to take a look at my dishwasher which had a leak. He looked it, made an adjustment and asked me to keep a watch on it. Unfortunately it did not stop the leak, so i called him back and he came back late on a Friday afternoon. Alex has been to my house three times in the past two years to fix a leaky dishwasher. The first two times he didn't know why it was leaking but he replaced a seal anyway. It continued continue to leak over the next year off and on but it wasn't a big enough deal to me to call him again. Until 2 weeks ago, it leaked really bad. So he came out looked at it for a little bit , ran it for a little bit and had no idea why it was leaking and decided he should replace the drain pump. Thinking maybe that was the problem. The other day, it started to leak again. We have an extended warranty through Frigidaire. So Frigidaire contacted him and he contacted my husband and left a message. My husband called him back and Alex kept asking who my husband was. Then Alex kept telling my husband that he's never been to my house before. He kept saying he's never fixed any of my appliances. My husband was like dude you were just at my house 2 weeks ago. You've been here 3 times. Alec continued to argue and argue with him. Finally after several minutes Alex finally remembered that he had been here and said oh yeah for the noisy dishwasher. In the past two years I have never complained about my dishwasher being noisy, ever. My husband and I had taken a video of the dishwasher leaking so I could show him. Alex wanted us to email him the video so he could determine what was going on and figure out what parts you need to order. That was it for us. We called Frigidaire and got a different appliance company out. The other appliance company diagnosed the problem within 20 minutes. The technician basically took my whole dishwasher apart. Alex had never done that. All he had ever done is sat in the kitchen and ran it and waited for it to leak. But it never leaked when he was here. One time he turned it over and looked at the bottom and that's when he decided to replace the drain pump. We are very disappointed in his service. He never went to any lengths to try to figure out the problem. But when he tried telling my husband that he's never been to my house when he actually been to my house 2 weeks earlier, that's when we decided that we needed to fire him. I hired Alex's Appliances based on the great Yelp reviews but had the opposite experience. The technician did not arrive in the 2 hour time-slot so I called and Ivan arrived 20 minutes later. He spent 20-30 minutes and left without a diagnosis for the dishwasher saying he was late for another appointment. He left the dishwasher disassembled with the parts sitting in the sink and said he could return 4 days later at the earliest. We called to get someone out to take a look at the refrigerator. It was leaking water and we needed someone fast. They said they would have someone out between 6:00pm-9:00pm. We had family in town and stayed home waiting for the person to show. Around 8:30 we were still waiting and hadn't heard anything. We called and they claimed the technician had a family emergency, but failed to mention this to us. This is not acceptable for us to be waiting around all night for someone that was never coming. I understand if it's an emergency but when the technician called to say he or she had an emergency, they should have notified us. read more

I've been meaning to write a review for many months. My dishwasher wasn't draining completely and kept leaving a large amount of water in the bottom. So Alex (I assume that's his name?) came the next day. He was chatting with me about the problem while pulling the dishwasher out, and guessed that there was probably a blockage in the drainage tube. He even was saying that it might be a food container seal that was causing it. To my amazement, it was exactly that! So he removed the blockage (a maple syrup seal) and put it back and tested it. It cost less than $100, maybe around $80. He was very friendly, in a shy sort of way, and seemed very trustworthy. read more

Shortly after moving into my recently purchased home, the evaporator motor fan expired in the Frigidaire refrigerator, rendering the refrigerator unusable. It was nearing Thanksgiving weekend and repair services were generally busy fixing ovens and such. Eventually I called AA who was able to come out the following day which was great. He quickly diagnosed the problem and repaired it, charging $195 for the new part plus $100 labor (maybe 20min-that part was OK with me) I later checked what that part costs and found a range of $20-$40 dollars online. I understand a price markup of 2, maybe 3 times cost...but 10 times ? ? ? The new fan is also quite a bit louder than the old one, but that may have something to do with better energy efficiency according to things I read. read more

I called yesterday because our refrigerator and freezer were not as cold as they were supposed to be and getting warmer (22/freezer and 49/fridge). Alex asked me a few questions over the phone and gave me a simple solution to try before we made an appointment for him to come out and charge a service fee. He suggested we remove the back panel and vacuum the dust from the back because it sometimes causes the refrigerator to over heat. Thanks to fellow yelpers for taking the time to review Alex. My previous appliance repair man that I was happy with left me dissatisfied on the last two calls. Instead of calling him I yelped and decided on Alex. Alex was able to fit me in within 2hrs of calling him and without going into detail the gas range that wasn't working was a build-in that was not accessible. Our GE Monogram fridge stopped working on a Saturday afternoon! Called a lot of services but no luck until we found Alex Appliance on Yelp. Read the reviews and called him. Alex arrived in just over an hour! He was informative and patient. Once the problem was diagnosed Alex had the parts expedited overnight and was back to repair our fridge. I called him later the same day with the part number and sent it to him via email. He agreed he would send me a more accurate quote. Skip ahead 3 days, I did not hear back from him. Guy had no explanation as to why the service person didn't show - but saw from schedule that he should have. I originally scheduled an appointment with Sears but they couldn't come out for two weeks and my dryer was unbearably loud as well as taking a long time to dry clothes so I went on Yelp and I was already impressed with Alex appliances given the high volume of high ratings they have. I called the number listed on Yelp and the technician answered the phone which I liked (versus having a separate scheduling coordinator) so I was able to talk to him directly about the issues I was having with my dryer and asked if he could come out today. He said no problem he would be at my house "today between 1-4pm" it was 11:30am when I scheduled so I was relieved they scheduled me with such short notice but nervous they wouldn't have the part and would have to come back. As promised he arrived at my house on time and to my relief he was not only able to detect the problem in a couple minutes but he had the part in his truck! We emailed a request for service for our built-in refrigerator on a Sunday... never expecting anyone would call until the next day. Not long after, I heard from Alex. We thought we had a problem with our fridge - it seemed to run too cold. Called Alex to take a look at the fridge. Alex responded promptly, and showed up on time. Listened to my description of the problem (lettuce would get partially frozen) and checked out the fridge. Concluded that there was nothing wrong with the unit but that we were placing lettuce in the a wrong place, and that leafy vegetables like lettuce tend to get frozen if not kept in the veggie compartment. He also showed us how to check the temperature in the fridge correctly (need to measure in the right spot to get the correct temp). Alex did not charge us for the visit at all - it was FREE. The fridge has been running fine. Alex is both knowledgeable and honest. Great service. Plan to call him again for any appliance repair. read more
