Alexus does, and they make a very good one. It's crispy. The bacon is substantial tasty. The blue cheese dressing is delicious. I ordered the skirt steak with it even though the salad was a meal.... I wanted that skirt steak!!! It was delicious. The dressing on top was so tasty and my steak was cooked to a perfect rare just as I asked for it to be. I could eat here every night. I have been coming here many years and this steakhouse has stood the test of time. The food is still solid. It's nothing fancy at all inside. But come for the food not the frills. It's family friendly. Great for a crowd. Everything we order is always cooked well and flavorful. They are one of the few restaurants that will still cook a steak rare for you. I went to Alexis steakhouse last night where I sat at the bar. The bar was pretty full but the seats were fully open but it was a Tuesday night so I probably didn't experience it at its busiest. The service was standard and the drinks were at your typical price but I felt the food was more on the expensive end which I didn't understand why. I had a steak Caesar salad which was great but for 30 dollars it's pretty expensive in my opinion. It definitely has a sports bar type of feeling but also could sit at table with family and friends. We wanted to go to a casual restaurant, some of our friends wanted steak. This restaurant is huge, it's 3 floors, the 3rd floor is reserved for parties. The decor isn't great, it felt very outdated and gloomy. But the service overall was good. To start we shared a spinach and artichoke dip and disco fries (not pictured). We didn't like the spinach and artichoke dip. It was runny and lacked flavor (it didn't even taste like spinach or artichoke). And the chips were semi stale. The disco fries had gravy and cheese (basically poutine). It was okay, nothing special. For my main course I ordered the Cadillac burger. The burger was so dry, I had trouble swallowing it. It had no sauce and the patty wasn't juicy and had zero flavour. I had also requested ketchup to drizzle on it but never got it. Overall, did not enjoy the food or the ambiance. We went to Alexus's for my dad's birthday because he really wanted a good steak dinner, and a few of the initial reviews we read were very positive, so we thought we'd give it a shot. As soon as we walked in, I knew we were in for quite an *experience.* We sat in a booth with a vinyl tablecloth covered in crumbs, next to window blinds COVERED in dust so thick I could write in it with my finger. From the brown water stains on the ceiling and the ripped fabric on the booth, it was clear that the space is not being taken care of, to say the least. The french onion soup was inedible, the fries and artichoke dip seemed like they came from a bag in the freezer aisle of the grocery store. My dad enjoyed the steak he got but the rest of us could not stomach anything we ordered. Needless to say, I would not feel comfortable eating here again. I frequented the Alexus for many years throughout college, graduate school, and my subsequent adulthood. It was always reliable for a cold beer, a juicy burger, and reasonable prices. Never would I consider this a steakhouse, way back then or now. That said, I visited recently with my fiancée and mother. This was not the Alexus I once knew. We were seated promptly by a friendly bartender. Instantly, I noticed how shabby the place has become. While not dirty, things simply looked beat up and outdated. Not bad, but old and ignored. Beer was cold and came in a clean glass from a clean line, so that was good. Cadillac Burger was good, but nothing memorable, and fries were crispy. My fiancée reported that her steak sandwich good, accompanied by a shoulder shrug, meaning it was just alright. My mother enjoyed her sliders. The overall bill was, in my opinion, quite high for food that was unremarkable and unmemorable. For a few beers with your buddies on a weekend, this place fits the bill. This is one of those times that I should've read reviews prior to stoping by a spot. Parking outside, conveniently located near the highways and bi-ways and Montclair U. Spot is outdated with plastic checkered tablecloths, patchy walls and dusty curtain's. Anywho the greeter was friendly enough, service was ok, food is a no for me. Menu has great options, choose to start with the fried calamari, problem is this doesn't give fried calamari vibes. Fell flat and came with Buffalo sauce and hot sauce. Thought that was odd. Asked for marinara sauce and what was brought to me was unfortunately not marinara sauce. Decided to not order an entree. Server didn't ask ONCE how our calamari was or the kids meal my child got lol. In spite of no one caring, my youngest happily enjoyed her kids cheeseburger and fries, love that for her! Been here many times, they do have a nice selection of steaks. This time around I had the Spicy Chicken with Rice n Veggies, an excellent tasty dish not too hot but a really nice bite that didn't overwhelm the rest of the dish. Beer was cold, Wedge salad was very good. But not 18.00 dollars each good. Service was very good, not very crowded for a Saturday nite, actually more people at the bar. I recently came to this steakhouse on a Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend. After searching online for some good steaks to try, their Delmonico Steak caught my attention. This was the main reason we chose this place; to try that steak. This place has a nice size parking lot. We had no issues getting a spot. When we arrived, it was not too crowded, and we chose to sit in the dining area vs. the bar area. They had a lot of tvs in the bar area and had the football games playing and chose the quieter section. After being seated, I stared off with ordering a French onion soup. I love this type of soup, and it was delicious here. For our meals, we ordered 1 delmonico steak and 1 red hawk steak sandwich. I had the steak cooked medium, and it came out just right. However, I wasn't too impressed with the taste or quality of the steak. It was very fatty, and just average, I thought. My girlfriend didn't like her steak sandwich that much either. Seemed dry and bland. The sides were okay. I wouldn't say the steaks were bad, but nothing to brag about. Ok so I think this place really deserves 3.5 stars but I'll go with a 3 since some dishes were better than others. While it's called a steakhouse, Alexus definitely has more of a tavern feel to it. I visited last night with a large group and we sat in the bar area. For the most part, service was pretty good, food was decent and everyone left satisfied. Mango habanero wings: 8/10; chicken quesadillas: 7/10; Cobb salad: 9/10; burgers: 6/10: cheesesteak: 7/10; mozzarella sticks: 7/10; buffalo chicken tenders: 9/10. No one tried any steaks but I'm tempted to try one on my next visit just to see how they fare as an actual steakhouse. Overall, I think it's a good spot with convenient location by MSU. Sure, prices definitely went up, but steak is still great here! Out of 4 Delmonicos (24oz each) priced at $29, mine and hubby's were flavorful, perfect medium and tender! I don't eat mashed potatoes, but I love their garlic mashed! French onion soup still on point and pitcher of beer was ice cold. Hubby enjoyed their chili and chips, but I still think mine is better :P ! Our waitress was very attentive throughout and I couldn't have asked for better service. Not as loud as it normally is here, but then again dining area was half full and bar practically empty which surprised me. Pickles a gratis sans the cherry peppers, but our waitress graciously brought out jalapeño slices for us. No complaints on this visit besides my parents griping about their steak cooked a bit over medium, but it didn't stop them from devouring it. I've been to Alexis many times for events and parties. They always have done a great job but Wifey, my son and I went here for dinner and the food was pretty good. I ordered a burger and it was excellent, but the fries just ok (should have asked for them well-done). Wifey had Italian Wedding soup that she said was very good though her house salad was average (romaine and iceberg). My son had an awesome chicken parm sandwich-nice and crispy, roll wasn't soggy at all, sweet sauce, not too cheesy. Nice cold Sam's Winter Brew (plastic cup) and Wifey had rolling Rock (on tap, but in a plastic cup...not a red solo either). Bar area is just your average bar...kind of loud, but ok, but I was really disappointed in the small plastic cups for our beers. We did have a fun server who seemed like she was having a good night. Place is run down - not well kept and the quality of the food is just not good (apps were horrible- we ordered 3) steaks were ok. We stopped in for a birthday dinner celebration. We ended up sending back 2 items we ordered. If we could have sent everything back we would of but we felt sorry for the waitress. She didn't know what to do but did tell us that food had been sent back repeatedly since she started working there. Tables had food crumbs on them as well as the floors too from pervious guests that were not cleaned up prior to seating. Guests seated a table over had their dog (not a service dog) with them in a restaurant. We knew this because of the constant barking. Let's not talk about how the apps we returned were taken to the bar to see if anyone wanted them and we watched another employee take a few bites of one of them ... crazy right!! This place use to be a staple everyone went to eat in Clifton back in the day. Side note - Ceiling tiles hanging from water damage in the dining area, blinds covered in dust - right next to us so couldn't help but notice, bathrooms - ceiling tiles hanging, swollen door on stall - just dirty. So I have came here twice and the food was decent each time. First I came here late night one time and had the discounted appetizers, which are cheaper after a certain time at least on the weekend (I want to say 10pm?), which resembles an Applebees-like atmosphere, a young crowd looking for some cheap eats. The appetizers were ok and satisfying enough, but nothing to rave about. The other time I came here was to try their signature steak, the 24-oz Delmonico steak. The steak itself tasted decent, but I feel there was some flavor missing somewhere. I could be spoiled in tasting better steaks, but I just wanted to expect more out of this "signature" steak. Which is the main reason for the 3 stars. The food was good bar food, decent wings with a few options and I had a burger. I had the simple one, but it was cooked the way I asked and seasoned well. I'm a little torn on my star rating. Take this as the good kind of three star review. The steaks at Alexus are awesome. My ribeye was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. A really fantastic steak. The "onion flower" was also unusually good... the onion stayed nice and crisp, it had the full "fried" flavor but wasn't greasy at all, and the dip was nice. The spinach was also very good. The potatoes (I had fried, the others at my table had baked potatoes) were ok enough for tavern food but a poor contrast with the steak. Our waiter was nice, brought great personality (and not in a phony, overdone way) and provided some helpful advice on the menu, and the busser (or whoever the other guy was) seemed pleasant. The service was kind of sporadic, though. It was the kind of service that's top notch if you're in the mood to chill (I was) but that might be frustrating on a different sort of occasion. The vibe is basically sports bar, and of the vaguely divey but not dirty sort. I liked the place... I don't really know how to classify it, though. She said we could seat ourselves, anywhere we wished --- so we did just that, picked a booth. The server finally showed up after 10-12min while we were just twiddling our thumbs --- no water, no bread, no nothing. Ok fine... But i was HANGRY, I wanted a steak, DAGNMAMMIT haha! Our waitress forgot our orders, then the appetizers came out in a totally different display (it was supposed to be blackened shrimp in a martini glass with guac and pico de gallo - instead we got them in a traditional plate). Our guac in our app, was barely there, my knife was gross and dirty... ABout the display, i'm not being picky, but if that's the selling point, then you kinda want that presentation... No? I asked for medium, but the dish came out smoking, it was nice to see as I stepped out and came back to find this volcano of meat and veggies sizzling and smoking on my table, but all that did was make my medium steak into well done :( My company's chimichurri steak was AMAZING it always is and for $24 not too bad for the side and huge slab of beef you get (12 ounces) --- however this is where my price issue comes in --- for $16.95 you get the same cut of beef, with a side of rice and beans, and a sweet potato with a much livelier environment at CUBAN PETES. I really want to fall in love with this place again... But the building on the exterior needs work, the attention to details needs to be stepped up, and the prices need to be revisited. Also their beer lines need to GET CLEANED... Ive had yuenglings here that tasted like butter scotch with socks... I dont know what that would really taste like, but if I did, it would taste like their yuengling lol! Went back here last night for the first time in a long time. Had to wait almost 20 minutes for a server to come to the table. I know places are short staffed and I respect that, but a simple we'll be right with you goes a long way. This places niche was a good cheap steak. Now their prices are comparable with higher end steak houses. This place can't figure out if it wants to be a bar or steak house. The music from the bar was blasting to the point we couldn't our selves talking. The heat was blasting to the point we were sweating. Would be 2.5 stars... We've been here twice for family gathering-related reasons. During the previous experience, we only had to wait 10-15 minutes for the food to come out. The food quality overall last time was just okay. But recently, everything was a totally different story. We were there for another private family gathering, and arrived at 7PM. When we got there, we expected to wait a short period of time for the food to arrive. But this time, we waited for 1 LONG HOUR!! This meant that we didn't cure our "hangry" (using this word for the 1st time - :D) pains until 8pm! Even our family member who organized this gathering was extremely annoyed. This was totally unacceptable! Sure the carafes of sodas and water came out during the wait, but that didn't make matters a lot better. The 1 hour wait was my major gripe, as well as everyone else's who was here. After the annoying wait, the food arrived onto the serving tables. On one short table was a tray filled with garlic bread, and a bowl filled with Caesar Salad. On the big table, there were "buffet" trays with the flames lit on the bottom. Placed on the trays separately were the SPICY buffalo wings, penne vodka, seasoned chicken and broccoli with penne, calamari, quesadillas, and a mix of roasted carrots and broccoli. I didn't eat the calamari and quesadillas at all. The buffalo wings here were no joke at all. I had a few of these, and as a result, I felt the HOT & SPICY sensation! My face turned red for a little bit, but it was all good. The wings were tasty and the flavor was spot-on. Any one who likes buffalo wings may want to try this restaurant's style. The penne vodka was simply made up of penne with vodka sauce. Surprisingly, this wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be. But overall, this was just okay and obviously better than just plain penne. I also grabbed a slice of garlic bread too, and it just tasted okay as well. The seasoned chicken and broccoli with penne was simply made of just chicken, broccoli, and penne with seasoning. Even though the chicken was cooked really well, there wasn't a lot of flavor. The broccoli and penne was cooked well too, but again, not a lot of flavor. Overall, this was just okay. The roasted carrots and broccoli consisted of just that, a long with some seasoning. I didn't know what kind of seasoning was utilized for this, but it was quite tasty! One thing for sure, was that my vegetable craving was fulfilled from this. Overall, this was great, and much better than the Caesar Salad. The event room looked quite rustic. The walls were completely made out of wood. Even the tables and chairs (except the red padded ones) were made out of wood too. Throughout the room, there were hanged pictures of beer advertisements. Overall the food was either okay or good, which depended on what was consumed. The servers who brought out the food and drinks were nice. But unfortunately, the 1 hour long wait wasn't satisfying. Large Open Space Good Quality Beef Service Just OK This Alexus was not my go to steakhouse when the Alexus Steakhouse & Tavern was open on Wagaraw Road in Hawthorne, primarily due to it's proximity to my home. Both offered good quality steaks and a nice variety of brews at great prices, win win. What they also shared is a all around decent eating experience in kind of run down environment, sort of like a dive bar/steak house with the ambiance of an Elks Club. The surviving Clifton location is a bit brighter and caters to Montclair State College students with memorabilia covering the walls in the bar area. The dining room is open and bright, food good, service decent. Plenty of parking and easy access from a few major highways so you really can't go wrong here. Great steak burgers and nice cuts of beef, the menu is a budget conscious carnivores delight. I recommend the mashed over the fries or baked potato as a side. If you sit at the bar you can score some two dollar domestic pints and pretty good buffalo wings, with a pool table for some after dinner fun. Want a nicely cooked Delmonico for a buck an ounce, come here! read more

I came here on a Tuesday noon for lunch with my colleagues. Although the food is OK and price is reasonable, the 1.5 hours wait is not justifiable. Our waiter apologized for the wait and said there were only 2 cooks. I got the 8 oz cadillac burger with a side of mushrooms and onions. It comes with a choice of salad and fries. I requested the burger to be medium rare but it came out well done. The french fries were crispy though. The burger was not dry or bland. It was also priced well at around $10. The side of mushroom & onions cost $4, but it was not very good. I would not be getting it next time. Our drinks were also not filled throughout our entire meal. We LOVE this place! We go just about every weekend for steaks, burgers, or the amazingly great salmon over spinach! The chicken wings are crispy and the steaks are cooked exactly to order. The dining room is far enough from the bar such that the atmosphere is comfortable and the selection of beer is fun and contemporary with many local IPAs. The best part about Alexus is the fantastic staff! They're warm, friendly, and attentive, even when we aren't at a particular server's table. Treat yourself to a great, low impact night out! read more
