Came by on Valentine's Day after walking around for an hour wait almost anywhere so we decided to pop into Alfie's. And I was really impressed! Overall the food was pretty damn great I got the chicken sandwich and although it wasn't what I expected it was really good. My boyfriend got one of they're burgers and said it was great. But my favorite part was the snack menu we got the pretzel and cheese and I thought it would be your run of the mill Little microwaved pretzel bites and regular cheese but when they pulled out two pretzel loafs perfectly crunchy and warm on the outside and super soft and hot on the inside and amazing cheese sauce I was super happy overall I'd give the place a four out of five the atmosphere was pretty nice although it was super loud and pretty packed the food was all right homey American place. The portion sizes were great the bar was a little loud the bathroom was clean and nice the aesthetic whole place was pretty cute and the servers were attentive! I would definitely go back if I'm looking for a place to grab a bite. read more

Wow - I very much TRULY enjoyed my evening at Alfies! Fair prices, good spacing, friendly staff BUT somebody let out an absolutely RANK sulfur smelling fart, nearly made me hurl. Management did not seem to react as the bulk of the patrons left to go stand in the rain rather than inhaling this fart. Stopped business for 10 minutes at least. Overall though, great experience! read more

This place is rude and utterly disgusting. Found bug in food and manager claimed it didn't come from the food. Then called me liar. I was a regular so at that point, I say, you just lost a customer- he said "good!" Enough said. Don't bother. strictly reviewing happy hour + drinks. Came here around 5 on a Friday night for happy hour and already the place was filled up! There is lots of seating at this bar, nice open space with lots of light and exposed brick. While not everything was on happy hour specials, the drink prices overall were reasonable and the beer menu had lots of great options. The wait staff was pleasant and attentive. Would definitely recommend if you're in the Hells Kitchen neighborhood. read more

The ambiance was great - even though the noise of conversation was pretty loud - approaching 100 decibels. But that was just a sign of how much fun everyone was having. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and it was excellent. Every meal comes with a FREE bloody mary or mimosa - the bloody mary was good quality too! We split the zucchini pancakes and pulled pork benedict. Both were great and under $17! They have some outdoor seating too. One of the best deals for a weekend brunch in the area. New Hell's Kitchen Hot Spot!!! Very warm and inviting homely bar/restaurant. Not open for food quite yet but I cannot wait to go back and try everything (Open for food Sept 8th I believe)! We received a sneak peek of the menu and it looks absolutely amazing. The place is very open with large windows overlooking 53rd and 9th Avenue but still super intimate. Great variety of craft beers on tap and very reasonably priced. Options for seating (bar, booths, and community tables) The bartender Mark, was very friendly and knowledgeable of the different beers and provided outstanding service. We felt very welcomed and like we had been going there for years. A must visit!!! (Who gives a one star rating for a $3 difference in a beer? Went here with a friend on a Thursday night for dinner and drinks. We were seated immediately (the key is to hit this place a little after happy hour, as it gets packed) at a table in the back of the restaurant. The ambiance was warm and inviting, full, but not packed-- perfect for a night of catching up with friends (or even a date). Service was super attentive (we have 3 people attending to our table) and friendly. If you're a craft beer fan, like I am, this is a refreshing spot (especially for the area, which is more of a "nice restaurant" than "cool bar" zone). When I was there, they had a great selection of microbreweries on tap, including Oskar Blues (one of my favorites, that you don't see enough of in NYC). If you're ordering food, you can't go wrong with the lobster and pork belly sandwich (it tastes as heavenly as it sounds). If you're looking to eat, drink, and be lively...check out Alfie's. This is more of a 3.5 for me, but why not round up. FOOD: The food is definitely solid here. I had the vegetarian flatbread option, which I thought was pretty good, and big enough to share. I also had the grilled peaches, which I thought were delicious. I also tried the beet & goat cheese salad which I highly recommend - there is fried goat cheese in it which is heaven in my books. The drink deals are good too since their happy hour is long, they have $5 glasses of wine I believe. AMBIENCE: Nothing much to say about this, it's dark/bar like on the inside, but in the summer it's pleasant to sit outside. PRICE: Expensive for what you get, definitely. Ultimately, solid bar food, good selection of beers, long bar, and ample seating. I also like the large windows perfect for people watching. Bartenders are very nice. I stumbled into Alfie's unknowingly on a blizzardy Wednesday night the week following Hurricane Sandy. As frigid & desolate as the weather was outside, Alfie's provided a warm, hunger-inducing comfort with a subtext of impending fun. High ceilings, spacious - but not cavernous - and enough ambient noise to provide aural comfort. The beer list looked fantastic, though I stuck with a trusty & warming Allagash White,. I perused the menu, not intent on ordering food. It was about 1am, and the servers were running out these delicious-looking burgers was a maddening frequency. I needed to have one. I honestly don't recall the name of the burger I ordered - I think it was just the 'Alfie's Burger,' and their menu isn't online yet - but it was delicious. I do recall that it was a thick patty with a slight crust on the outside that led to a beautifully soft middle. It was one of those burgers where the middle is just a little thicker than the outside, and it leads to this juicy tenderness that's unrivaled texturally. It was topped with grilled onions, mushrooms and what i believe was a swiss of some variety, and served with thick, crispy potato fries and what appeared to be a house-made ketchup. The bun was soft and buttery, but strong enough to hold up to the viscosity of the burgers' ingredients. The bartender wasn't a jerk, and the server was talkative but not in my face. It was a really pleasant experience, and the food shined. Price also wasn't bad = $26 including tip for two Allagash and a really good burger. How good? The leftover quarter of the burger i lugged back to my hotel was absolutely drool-inducing the next morning, and still retained it's juicy essence. After an exchange with the manager he compted the meal. Which is a nice gesture but I'd rather spend my money and be served good food. read more

It's a smallish place, with a bar in front and tables in the back and along the side. They have a good beer list with several unusual ones on tap, and several more in bottles. Unfortunately, I had such great company that I forgot to write the details. The food was the usual, although the fried stuff (sweet potato fries, pigs in a blanket, calamari) was fried much less than usual. That made everything less greasy and more tasty than usual bar food. For us international ESL folks, the best thing was the lack of blasting music or TV sets, although there were a few TVs on with the volume off. You could actually talk to the person next to you without screaming. Another bonus was the various happy hours... three a day during the week. If your drinks are adjustable (including the not bad Alfie's Ale) you can get away with a moderate bill here. Friendly service is another plus.--Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NY drinkers, a different bar every week. read more

I've been here several time times and each time it's just above average. Food is great! Their mac and cheese is fantasic, turkey burger is very good, salads are a nice size for a meal, and the flatbreads are excellent. Good beer selection too, many are craft brews, and their happy hour pricing is very reasonable. The space is dark but warm and inviting. And when I've been with big groups - midweek or Saturday 8pm - they've always gotten us seated within 10-15 minutes. Overall pricing is average for hells kitchen area, but something is always off in terms of the charge, so make sure you know what you're ordering is in terms of the price - definitely for happy hours. I came here for a Sunday brunch. No wait and the place was pretty empty. I ordered the hangover special. I was actually pretty impressed by the amount of food and that it included a drink with the meal. The food was good considering I was starving, but I wouldn't go out of my way to say it was the best thing I have ever tried. The service was very attentive, especially when my friends eggs weren't cooked the way she wanted. Late Friday night trying to find a kitchen open late that didn't have a barrage of drunk people swimming around. Not only did Alfie's have their full menu, but happy hour drafts till 4am. Prices are a bit high for bar food, so at least tried to get something interesting. Decided on the Pastrami on a Pretzel ($16) with sweet potato fries and a draft beer ($5). The sandwich itself is disappointingly small and the bun is greasy from the oil or juices the filling is cooked in. Meat is pretty good and went well with the beer, but can't say it's worth the price tag. Sweet potato fries are thick and made well; plus they give a lot to compensate for the tiny sandwich. Service here is fine for late night and not too crowded as well. Would come back here for the good beer list, but probably not the food. read more

Came here for happy hour with some work friends on a Friday. The "happy hour" specials are really just "non peak" hour specials and are just ok. Thankfully their draft beers are only $2 more than their special beers and really good. They keep a great seasonal list and are more than willing to let you taste if you're caught between brews. Went for New Years Day brunch and it was a heaven sent burger on a BRIoche bun cooked to perfection + everyone gets their own brunch fries (we all usually share 1 fry order / table) = great success. All for $14 mind you! Did not drink but seems like a good vibe for a day drinking event. I think I'd even come back here for a happy hour. The owner was very friendly but did not know why the place was called Alfie--not really important but anyway. Ducked in here after walking around NYC all New Year's Day. When I saw the mac and cheese on the menu outside, I knew it was the place to warm up! We shared that and the crab dip, both of which were yummy (if not rich and heavyish, but what would you expect from those two dishes?) I did have a drink from the cocktail menu called a "literally can't even" that wasn't so great. WAAAAYYYYYY too sweet. I actually had to let it sit for the ice to melt a bit, then ended up pouring some of my water into it and I still couldn't finish it. And I like sweet drinks. read more

This is a great spot. If you're looking to overpay and find the same exact frozen shit from Jetro every other restaurant serves in NYC - you won't find it here. I have so much respect for places here who make a valid effort to do things right, differently, and not just own a restaurant to ripoff dumb tourists. Went to this bar with some friends after work, it's one of my coworkers go to bars. He knew the bartenders, and everyone was really nice. They have a pretty extensive beer list, I had a banana flavored brown beer which was really good. We also all got food, which everyone loved. I had the Bulgogi sandwich; perfect combination of korean bbq flavor and delicious bar food sandwich. A couple others got the Lobster PLT, which I am definitely going to try next time I go. Been the this spot a few times, but I've only had drinks here. Surprisingly I've yet to try their food (at least any that I can remember). What I like about this place is the dim light setting and their hard alcohol selection. A wall filled with some great bourbons, whiskies, gins and other hard alcohol selections sits behind the bar along with a pretty good rotating beer list. In the heart of Hells Kitchen, this place has more of a laid-back feel to it compared to many of the other restaurants/ bars in the area. My only grip about this place is the one time I recently needed to use a bathroom, so I stopped in here. As I walked in I was greeted by a worker at the front and I politely said that I just came in to use their bathroom. His response to me was basically that I could use their bathroom if I asked him with a please, as if he was the owner or anyone special in the establishment. A part of me felt as if he was trying to belittle me a bit so I laughed at him and continued to use their bathroom with no issues. You call that good survive buddy? I would have given this place 4 stars but due to that one negative experience and since customer service plays a huge role when owning and/or working in the restaurant business, i just couldn't. It was raining and I was coming back from food shopping-a new place that I wanted to try was closed so i had always wanted to try Alfie's and I am glad that I did. i was seated immediately and got the brunch menu-I got coffee as opposed to a drink and got the chicken pesto sandwich served on a toasted ciabatta roll with fries. Came here prior to heading over to an event and it was good but not super great. Got the last available table outside and personally I think that is the only way to do happy hour/dinner/lunch/brunch in the city when it's nice out so that was great. Ordered the Lobster PLT with sweet potato fries as that's what everyone raved about. There were a lot of chunks of lobster so that was good but I have to say the lobster salad itself was not that flavorful. The Pork Belly portion of the sandwich was perfectly done and I was impressed they were using Amy's bread for the sandwich though I think it was toasted just a hair too hard for my own personal preferences as I cut the roof of my mouth. Overall I think it's about 3.5 stars but I wasn't wowed by anything. read more
