When I went there, all the employees were arguing with one another. The one who was in charge told a female employee she was stupid. It took 30 minutes to just get pita bread. It cost a lot of money for a small portion of food compared to other Greek places in the area. Have they changed ownership? ? I have had much better experiences here in the past. So I went here with the family. I ordered the lamb schwarma, the wife ordered the lamb burger and my son ordered a cheeseburger with pickles. The lamb schwarma was nice but not as good as I remembered, and I noticed there were black bits in it, though it didn't taste burnt it was a little off putting. The wife's burger was tasty , cooked with mint, but it had an undetectable gritty substance in it. My son's burger looked like a mess, and the fries were greasy and inedible. So suffice to say we were all disappointed but the real kicker came when we got the check, They overcharged us $5.00 on the burger and $2.00 on the lamb burger. I grabbed a menu and pointed it out to the waitress who proceeded to explain that they 'changed their prices 2 years ago but not the menus as they had so many printed'! What? do they know it's illegal to charge more than you advertise? And nobody else has questioned this? Plus it was an extra $1 for the pickles and another $1 for the cheese even though it's listed as a hamburger with cheese?Thankfully she redid the bill and charged me what was advertised like she was doing me a favour but no I will not be back. This is just really good Mediterranean food. Up from LA to visit with family and popped in here for an absolutely delicious lunch. Around the table we had: Hummus and pita appetizer and two orders of lemony dolmas (2 per order at 99¢per order!) Both were far above average. Then, a greek salad and a couple of falafel sandwiches on delicious pita. We also had a turkish coffee and a chai tea (each with enough for two to share) that were both outstanding. The coffee was strong and aromatic, but not bitter and the chai was sweet but not overwhelmingly so. As far as we know, everything is made fresh and you can taste it. My wife and I have the Beef Shawarma plates and I substitute the rice for tabbouleh, simply delicious. Fast service to go considering it's all made from scratch. IF you like Turkish coffee it's great. I've sat down for dinner with four and had the family style dinner and it was more than everyone could eat. Everything tastes good. I've been eating middle eastern food for 25 years, and this place is one of the best. Portions are good, service very friendly. I'd give the food four stars and one extra for the owner for working hard and being a nice guy. The only reason it's not five for the food is it's not the personal best I've ever had, but that's up to interpretation. maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I fail to see what is so wonderful about the place. I ordered a falafel sandwich. They serve it to you like Daphne's. instead of the falafel and salad being inside the pita pocket, the pita is folded over. It was almost identical. And they serve it to you completely wrapped in foil. To me, that is sort of tacky, since I was dining in. The pita they brought to the table was warm and soft, but the same thing. partially wrapped in foil. The falafels had a slight bitter taste to it, the hummus had a sour or lemony taste to it. They serve it in a dish, the hummus was in the shape of a hershey kiss. very odd. never saw that before, reminded me of something like those soft serve yogurt machines. wonder if it comes out of a big machine like that. The menus are all paper. The waiter gives me my bill. it was around 11 bucks, so I put a 20 in the folder thing. and he asks me if I want change? huh? what I am going to tip him 8-9 dollars on an 11 dollar meal? Great food however horrible customer service. Once I ordered dinner for a friend and myself (two different orders but one bill) and wanted two hot sauce. The woman at the cash register made such a big deal about this, she refused to give us the extra hot sauce and wanted to charge us extra, stating that one only one hot sauce per order (even though clearly we had two orders). Owner of the store gave me burned fries when I told him about burned fries instead offering me new batch of fries to my daughter owner of the store rudely said I'm out of potatoes which was lie when I can them in the back and basically said to take my business else where. I've been going to this place for years but what owner did today was uncalled for and lost my business, friend and family's business for good. Went here today for lunch for the 3rd time in about 2 months. Before I rated this place 4 stars, today it's one star less maybe even 2 . We always order the ground meat kubedeh plate. I asked today can I get 2 beef and 1 chicken, because they give you 3 nice 'kabobs" the waitress said let me check with the cook. She came back and said, sorry we can only do 1 beef,1 chicken and 1 lamb,Are you kidding me. What the hell is the difference ? And I asked not to have a lot of there steamed veggies because they are not good. I don't like steamed carrots,I like them raw. I asked for more salad and rice than all the tasteless veggies but no, My plate came with hot rice on top of my salad,a mountain of tasteless veggies and the beef kabobs we're dripping with blood,not cooked properly. May I suggest to the owners, put the salad in a bowl where it should be. And what I want to say to you is any mediteraininen restraunt that serves kabob has a shacker jar OF SUMAC on the table,and when I asked my server for some sumac she came back to my table with about 1/16 of a teaspoon and I asked her for more. She came back with about half a teaspoon and said next time we have to charge you ARE YOU KIDDING ME , THAT CRAP IS LIKE BLACK PEPPER , what the ? I visited this restaurant about 3 weeks ago. I went in with my husband and my one year old daughter. My husband and I never go out to restaurants because my daughter always acts up, and this night we visited she was very tired and fussy. We ordered milk but the server said they had ran out an hour ago, and havent had time to run out. I said that was ok, we will just give her water. (It wasnt a big deal) She actually had someone run to the seven eleven next door to purchase milk so my baby girl could have some. That touched my heart, that was BEYOND exceptional service. I think the decision they made was more of a HUMANE decision then a regulation, or too bad we dont have it attitude. I really really appreciate it, and when my friends or family from out of town come out here to Simi this is the first place Ill recommend. First time eating here. The entrance is welcoming and the staff was friendly. Very colorful decor. We saw a lot of people dining but they still had availability. Service was quick and attentive. The food came out quickly. We ordered a dinner for two which included beef, rice, salad, and falafel. Portions were substantial, much more than we could eat in one seating. My complaint was that the rice didn't feel very fresh, not like day old rice but like it sat in the pot for a bit too long. I also wanted to have more options for the type of meat. I gave it a 4 but it should be a 4.5. Would I eat here again? Yes. I'd definitely order something different. read more

When I find things I like at a restaurant, I tend to order them frequently. At Ali Baba'a my favorites are their stuffed grape leaves, hummus, and lentil soup. All of these are made fresh daily. Their falafel is always moist on the inside and they make great salads too. Although these Mediterranean staples are found in ethnic restaurants ranging from Greek to Iranian, the owner is of Arab origin. In short the food is great tasting, healthy, and made fresh daily. The tables are solid wood and the wall art is unique and interesting (although personally I could do without the TV). And oh, did I mention the prices are very reasonable. Sitting there last evening dining on the grape leaves, hummus, and lentil soup, I could easily imagine a person dining on the very same things in some inn in Roman Cappadocia 2,000 years ago. The food was healthy for you back then and it's healthy for you today. Finally the servers and the owner are always friendly, enthusiastic and greet everyone with a smile. If you live anywhere around Simi (or even if you don't) and like good, healthy Mediterranean cuisine, head over to Ali Baba's.My only complaint is I live in LA County. I only wish Ali Baba's was nearer to where I live so I could dine there more often. Great place for terrific food and friendly atmosphere. Try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Okay, the Mediterranean food is superb. So, no need to elaborate on how great it is. What is surprising is that if you go on a Friday & Omar has made his clam chowder you MUST try it because quite simply it is the best clam chowder I have ever eaten & I have eaten it at all of the places in the United States known for seafood & clam chowder. Also, Omar's french fries are amazing. I didn't expect either to be anything special at a Mediterranean restaurant but both reflect Omar's rigorous standard of excellence. read more

This is my favorite place to eat my area. Not only does the food taste great, but it is quite healthy too. The meats are always very savory, tender, and well seasoned. They are lean meats too, so you really get a true taste of it, rather than a mouth-full of fat. Olive oil is used where needed, from what I can see and taste. The humus is perfect with a good creamy texture, yet not overdone. The salad is fresh, seasoned with minced parsely and mint. They have the best shawarma and it beats all other shawarma places I've tried. Some people may think it's a bit pricey, but the amount of food that you get is well worth it. If I were to cut the portion size in two, it would still be a well portioned full meal for some. I don't leave a trace behind though! I have enjoyed all variantes of the shawarma plates (beef, chicken, lamb) and the falafel as well. The yellow basmati rice is excellent. The baklava and harisa deserts are also excellent and combine well with hot tea or Turkish coffee. I always go for the Turkish coffee, as it is my favorite type of coffee and they make it very well. It really amps you up too! I always leave with a large surge of energy. Expect to be fulfilled when you eat here. You won't leave without your hunger and taste buds being very well sated. I eat here every weekend and I don't consider my weekend complete without having a shawarma plate. There are a lot of other great things to order as well, but I always go for my "usual"--the beef shawarma plate. Customer service is great there and the people are genuine. It can get pretty hectic in there when it gets busy and the waiter(s) and/or waitress(es) really work hard to get everyone well taken care of. I also enjoy the music they play there quite a bit. The Humus that Omar makes is the best that I or my family have ever had. All my kids, the friends that we have brought, my business associates have all said how good the food is. I went here for lunch today with a family member who had been here before. It was excellent. We ordered the small family meal plus hummus ($4). Our meal consisted of 6 falafels, rice with chicken and beef, a chicken kabob, a salad and a basket of pita bread. There were only two of us and this was easily enough to feed four people, so we ended up taking most of it home with us. The food was excellent, the people were friendly and we ended the meal with a chai tea and a turkish coffee both of which were so good it was like having dessert. The whole place is clean and pleasant. They have even created a little patio area out front with little potted trees blocking out the parking lot view. There is a sign on the window stating that they give out food to the local homeless on Sunday evenings and a donation box in the entryway to those who want to support that practice. All in all, I can think of nothing negative about the whole experience. read more
